Varicose / Thread Veins In Lower Leg - Treatment?

Aug 16, 2015

I have a large number of what I call thread veins that are in clusters throughout my lower calf area.  I first got one when I was in my 20s but then they started to erupt more frequently from my 40s onwards.

I did see a consultant privately via Bupa and had an ultrasound scan but because they were not varicose Bupa would not treat them.  The consultant suggested having them injected but I would have to pay for the treatment myself.

I would be prepared to pay but new ones keep breaking out so I cannot see the point.

I use a herbal vein gel with horse chestnut and Hirudoid cream that the consultant recommended but neither do anything. What do others use.

Lower Leg Numbness After RFA For Varicose Veins

I had RFA done a week ago. I wore the compression stocking for a week. Leg felt a little funny but thought it was due to the stocking. Had a follow up yesterday and all looked good. However, after having the stocking removed, the front of my lower left leg has a numbing feeling to it. Is that normal? There is some bruise like pain also.

Varicose Veins :: An Overview And Treatment Options

Varicose veins are in some cases unavoidable.  Many times, there are ways to naturally prevent and soothe them.

Get plenty of exercise to get your blood circulating, Elevate your legs on pillows daily for 10 minutes or more, Avoid excess weight gain, Dry-brush your legs daily to improve circulation. (This can prevent varicose veins from forming.) Use a natural-bristle brush with a long handle that allows you to reach all parts of your body. Gently brush your legs from the ankles up in a circular motion. Do this before you shower, so you can wash off any dead skin you brush off. Follow with moisturizer or body oil. Don't brush areas with existing varicose veins because you may irritate them.

Take sociable garlic and vitamin E capsules to improve circulation and vitamin C and B-complex vitamins to strengthen your blood vessels, Massage your legs with upward strokes, flushing your blood up to your heart. Use a massage oil made with 3 drops of lavender oil and 1 drop of peppermint oil in a coconut oil base (use unscented coconut oil), or put only the essential oils into a small spray bottle filled with water and spray directly on your legs.
St. John's wort oil helps with inflammation of veins. Avoid sitting for too long, especially with your legs crossed,
Wear loose clothing.

Try acupuncture or reflexology treatments to get your circulation moving and to move any stagnant energy.

After a bath, apply castor oil directly onto the veins. Massage using upward strokes from your feet straight up your legs. Avoid standing for prolonged periods of time.

Apply a cool compress soaked in witch hazel on your legs. Add a few drops of rosemary oil to stimulate circulation.

Flex your feet up and down and circle your ankles to the left and to the right twice a day.

To help varicose veins, make sure you're getting enough of the following:

Calcium-rich foods, since varicose veins are aggravated by a calcium deficiency

Pineapple, to reduce swelling and inflammation.

Berries such as raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cherries, as they contain a pigment that strengthens the walls of the veins

Foods high in fiber Plenty of water, to keep your bowels moving.

Options / Treatments For Varicose Veins?

I'm a 36 year old mum of 5... 8 years ago after our 4th child I needed an operation to strip varicose veins on both legs as they were problematic.. Living abroad flights are needed to visit family etc.

We went on to have our 5th child 4 years ago and over the last year they have returned twice as bad as before. They are painful and very ugly.... Starting from my ankles right up to the back of my knees. I'm a fit person, train every day and not over weight. What options do I have other than heading down the surgery route again!! It's starting to affect me as I want to not feel conscious living in a warm country and wanting to spend time with our children in swimwear and shorts.

Hip Replacement :: Varicose Veins - Coincidence?

I've never had a varicose vein in my life, and when I looked down at my legs last night, I am seeing a dozen, on both operated and non-operated leg. I don't how long they've been there (I am 4.5 weeks post op) but I know they weren't there pre surgery. Coincidence with the THR?

Pregnancy :: Varicose Veins - Family History

Has anyone gotten them before? I'm preg with #6 and I think I have signs of them. I'm concerned because on my mother's side the women have them severely (to the point my sister almost lost a leg in pregnancy). I'm high risk and on adjusted bed rest so it's not from standing too long and I'm only 12w so it's not from pressure.

Varicose Veins Removed Or Filled On The Shins?

Does anybody know if you can have veins removed or filled on the shins?

My veins are hereditary and seem to be getting worse the older I get! I've previously had surgery on the inside of my thighs but now a new vein has appeared on the front of my thigh above my knee and my surgery was only two years ago, I had to go private  but I felt the surgeon was only interested in the money surprise surprise.

Varicose Veins On The Left Side Of My Penis

I have large varicose veins on the left side of my penis. I have them since 5 years and they are getting worse. I don't suffer any pain (yet). I want to know If they can be treated? To leave it untreated may cause adverse health effects, such as pain and more varicose veins on the penis. This is something I don't want since I need the part for the rest of my life.

Menstruation :: Varicose Veins, Bruises On Legs After Hysterectomy

I had the big cut hysterectomy in 2007 for uterine cancer.  3 weeks after my operation, my doctor started doing the 3 tiny holes surgery for hysterectomy for uterine cancer, but she never mentioned the option to me.   Every since the hysterectomy, I have felt bad.  I cannot lose weight.    My back hurts, I cannot stand up straight without pain, My right hip hurts.  I leak urine all the time.     Low libido & I cannot experience satisfaction in the BR, I have low energy and depression.  My legs never had any visible veins, but since my operation, my legs look like road maps of varicose veins.  If I had to advise a woman, I would say do not agree to a hysterectomy.

Varicose Veins On Foot And Calf - Sclerotherapy Causing Purple Toes?

I'm only 19 years old and a healthy weight.

For about ten years now i've been suffering with varicose veins, within the last 5 I've had 3 sclerotherapy procedures because they haven't always been successful on taking the pain away. I have a lump on my left calf and two on my left foot. The last sclerotherapy was done in August 2014. For about a year now I've had this circular purple blister looking spot on my middle toe on my left foot, It's not been causing me any problems but within the past week the purple discolouration has spread to the pressure point of my toe, making it extremely painful to walk properly. It's not as deeply coloured as the circular mark but it's still obviously purple and I'm worried it will be permanent like the other one. There's also purple discolouration on the toe next to it as well.

I'm aware this could be due to bad circulation due to the sclerotherapy removing certain veins in my foot that might travel towards the toes. But how is this treated and how likely is it that it's something more serious such as gangrene, vasculitis or a cholesterol embolism?

I'm really worried so I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone who's suffered from this or knows any tips on making the purple go.

Varicose Vein Treatment Under General Anaesthetic Fear

I'm due in for varicose vein treatment this week and I have been advised to have this done under a General Anaesthetic because all of my veins cannot be treated under a Local. I'm also super anxious that even under a local I'll need chilling out!

I'm absolutely petrified, I've called the hospital, spoken to my gp etc and all seem so unworried and matter of fact about it. I just want to talk to someone and not go into detail on their responses to help me get through this. I'm not sleeping, I'm so anxious that weight is falling off me, I am really really scared. It's not the procedure, I am at ease with that element, it is having the anaesthetic and I'm worried something will go wrong that is concerning me. What's worse is I know I'm ridiculous and that makes me worse. I've asked for sedation but I'm told this is dangerous. I've been told I'm more likely to have a real bad car accident etc but this doesn't help me because if there is a risk then it can happen.

I just feel like I'm not going to be able to go into the hospital on the day. I know that I need to get a grip but I just can't, I really cant.

For reference I'm a 40 yo male and have never had a General Anaesthetic before.

Hepatitis C: Post Treatment :: Sofosbuvir+Daclatasvir Treatment Relapse

I'm looking for advice. My 60 year old father (who has had HCV for more than 10 years; previously treated with Interferon but bad side effects) finished his 12 week Sofosbuvir+Daclatasvir (considered same as Harvoni) treatment a month ago. Already first tests after 2 weeks showed virus was Undetected, but yesterday he received his most recent results and he has a relapse of the virus. He is genotype 1, fibroscan result 4 (close to final stage). He is based in Poland and I'm not sure if our doctors are fully informed of the new generation medications and HCV itself.

Is anyone able to give us any advice? We are pretty desperate and my dad is just so depressed as he thought he finally got rid of the virus (he got infected while on an operation in a public hospital) and now it is back...

Are there any specialists that you are aware of I could possibly get in contact with?

Lower Back Pain / Numb Lower Legs

I have had lower back pain for months now which goes hand in hand with numb lower legs, pain and discomfort really bad in the morning when waking, so much so I get up and have to stretch on my exercise mat to get relief. The veins in the lower legs in the morning really stand out. I saw the doctor who said it was lower back pain causing the numbness in the legs but the circulation seemed ok. I wanted a scan to see what the problem is as the pain can be bad, but he said they don't do back scans no point? The pain is often bad and I sit with a hot water bottle. I am 60 years old.
