The temperature dropped below 35 the past few days, and now my 2.4 is making a loud exhaust noise when cold. The noise goes away after it warms up, but maybe ten minutes after the engine temp is normal. It's honestly fairly loud, like I have a broken exhaust pipe, but then it's normal after that. What's the deal?

Is the car is a bit loud? It almost sounds like it has a sporty exhaust on it. From what I can tell it's all OEM. Its not super loud, I have an 06 evo, thats loud lol. This just sounds like its got a gutted cat or something. Just a throaty tone from the exhaust.
I am kinda thinking maybe the flex pipe is maybe leaking a bit. Cause it seems like its coming from under the car near the flex pipe, but its cold here, so I figured I might see an exhaust leak under the car.
I just didn't know if the se were a little louder or what? Its definitely not coming from the engine bay.
So I was at my friend's shop today getting something done and since I wouldn't have to pay for it, I had him hook up the OBD scanner. Turns out the check engine light I've been having sporadically show up is P0420. After getting this, I had the sinking feeling of knowing finally what the problem was. Recently I've been having some very loud noises coming from my exhaust, and not from the tips where it should be. So we jacked up the car, and what do I find? The connection right behind the catalytic converter where it connects to the rest of the rear exhaust was compromised. Apparently I had scraped the exhaust a couple times too forcefully and it separated at the flange and the gasket is no longer sealing. So here's my question. I have the TRD CAT-back exhaust. Is there a generic universal gasket that I can use to replace the leaking one? Or am I looking at needing to find a shop to make one?

View 1 RepliesI have a 2012 Camry SE with about 30k on it. I've always been a huge Toyota fan but I've had some interesting things happen with my first new car that has me questioning quality. I've had a mouse nest in the cabin air filter with the dead mouse laying in the engine bay (not a toyota issue), a loud rattling exhaust/engine rattle when I start the car, and the common interior creaks that I've been reading about.
However I've noticed a noise coming from somewhere behind the dash, maybe the instrument panel area that has been very annoying. It occurs at highway speeds usually above 65mph and it's kind of like a quick tapping. Very faint but definitely noticeable.
Its not the sunroof because, unfortunately I have that issue also lol. It took me a while to narrow it down to behind the dash but that's as far as I can get because I can't search for it while I'm driving. I'm not very picky but I do like to drive in silence sometimes and listen to the sounds of the engine/tranny shifting (weird I know) but that dashboard noise has been ruining it.

View 1 RepliesRecently purchased a used 2003 Toyota Camry LE. After a recent oil change at the local Toyota dealer we noticed that when we start the car in the morning a puff of white smoke spews out from the exhaust for a few seconds and stops. There is no more white smoke while driving the car around. The car runs perfect and has no power loss. Initially we had noticed it was losing coolant. All the discussion on the internet pointed to a bad head gasket. We had a mechanic look at it and it turned out that the radiator was leaking and hence the loss of coolant. He also noticed the oil was overfilled so he brought it down to the normal level. The mechanic also checked the head gasket and claimed there were no issues with it. Replacing the radiator took care of the coolant loss but the white smoke still comes out only the first time the car is started.

View 2 RepliesSo I own an 02 camry LE and I suffer from the infamous low exhaust piping. but today i saw a gen 5 SE with the piping hugging tight with the lower body (like it should have been)!
My question is, what are my options to go about getting my piping tucked in more? is there an oem gen 5 bolt on pipe i can get?
I have a 2002 Camry V6 US model. I need to replace the Oxygen Sensor that is on the front (beginning) of the Front Exhaust Pipe Assy, just before the other sensor which is on the curved part of the front exhaust.
When looking at the DENSO website, it lists two sensors BEFORE the catalytic convertor and two AFTER it. I don't see ANY sensors after the convertor(s), nor does the Toyota Camry shop service manual show them.
Are there only two or are there more than two? Also, what is bank 1 and bank 2? I'm assuming bank 1 is the front cylinders and bank two are the rear (towards the windshield).
I have a question regarding a leak i have in the manifold of my toyota camry 2002 2.4 cylinder. the engine check light is coming up and after a check on the mechanic there is a leak in the manifold where the catalytic converter is attached. when you put your hands near the pipe, you can feel air coming out. See the image attached.

I am having an issue with my 2002 GTI 1.8T. I have tried searching for an answer to this, and found a couple things saying maybe it could be the secondary air pump but wanted to get more opinions before I go shell out money to chase this problem.
When I start up the car in the morning after having it sit overnight, the car does the normal thing where it increases rpm's to about 1100 to warm it up. During this a loud "whistling" noise can be heard. Once the car is warmed up a little bit, the rpm's decline to about 900, and the whistling sound goes away. When this happens though it almost sounds as if a valve or something is closing causing the noise to go away.
Also, I am unsure if this is related to this, sometimes when I am driving, I will be accelerating and the car seems to stop accelerating as strong as it was, boost goes down from around 8 or 9 psi to about 4 and I seem to lose power as if I had let off the gas some. When I put my foot further down the car accelerates harder again and boost goes back up.
I have already changed spark plugs, cleaned MAF sensor, and run the 3m 3 part engine cleaning kit through it.
I was working with a friend for his 2002 Camry with a 3.0 and while looking at it he said the front exhaust manifold was clogged (The dealer told him) So I change it and tried starting it and it sounded like it was going to start then nothing. He had a timing belt put on a year ago by a dealer and it has been sitting since January. Mean while the Mice have been making themselves home and I am wondering if they got into the timing cover and did something to the teeth on the belt to make it back fire. I just put new spark plugs in and it still back fired.. Or is it coil packs.. You definitely see gas on the old plugs and smell it to..
View 2 RepliesI have a 94 ranger 4L. I am looking for a more loud exhaust sound in/outside the truck and at idle. I have had a cherry bomb turbo on it and it was ok but not loud enough for my liking. I just picked up a flowmaster 40 2 days ago and it sounds good but again just not loud enough for my taste and kinda a lot more. I was looking for a louder muffler that is not a glasspack and would like to stay under like 80 or so.
I also thought about getting a high flow cat which i think might make some more sound but was not sure. Im running the stock pipe which is 2" and end in back of the wheel on the right. I look at the Hooker Headers Maximum Flow Muffler which i thought would be louder b/c it's more straight through the muffler so it would put off more sound better. What would u recommend for something more loud ?
My car is making almost like a clunking sound when starting. It doesn't do it all the time, mostly it is when its a cold start but its happening more frequent. I have the push button start, would warranty cover this?
View 2 RepliesI've a loud squeaking sound coming from the front of the engine on cold start. This only happens when I start the engine after overnight parking . There are no squeaks when the engine is warmed up or when I start up with a warm engine.
I'm driving an 07 Camry and live in a region with hot tropical weather.

What could be the probable cause of the this and how do I rectify it?
I have a 2006 Camry 2.4l and I'm hearing a loud noise coming from the idler pulley on cold startups when I put it in gear. I don't hear it when it's in park. The noise gets worse if you turn the a/c on. I have replaced the belt, idler pulley and top motor mount. I took the belt off and cranked it when cold and there was no noise even in gear. I can see the idler pulley moving and can confirm that's the noise but what it causing the belt to make it do that? Could I have bought a defective idler pulley?
View 3 RepliesMy F150 exhaust seems rather quiet when I first start it up, but after it gets warmed up good, the exhaust is much louder (which I like). I started wondering if I had a crack up front that widened out when it got hot, so looked under it when I got home today with it hot and still idling, but didn't see any cracks. Also I did not hear any noise like a leak. All sound was coming from the side exit pipe. So... what is the phenomenon that would cause this?
View 5 RepliesI have Camry 2002 LE which has 110000 miles on it. After last winter in Pittsburgh, first time I drove it for 200 miles continuously and all of sudden the engine started making very loud sound after 2-3 hrs drive and I had to pull it off.
When you give more gas, the sound increases even further. It is very load and unbearable. I called AAA and mechanic advised something wrong with engine and I cannot drive it anymore so have to tow it.
The sound is coming from engine and it is very very load. I will take it to mechanic tomorrow but what would have gone wrong. Is it the end of my car life?
2002 Camry, Automatic Transmission
Have an occasional problem. When shifting from park to drive/reverse, I occasionally get a loud, brief (1 -2 seconds) rattling noise from the engine compartment. It's my daughter's car so not sure yet if this is a cold start only issue or if present after car has been driven, then stopped and re-started. The problem does only occur occasionally. Where to start troubleshooting? I've looked for loose external pasts with nothing found.
My car begins to shake violently and hum loudly at anything over 70mph. It used to be 80mph but it has slowly gotten worse. I have checked the motor mounts and none appear to be cracked or broken. I have also had tires balanced and replaced, rims replaced, and the problem continues to persist. I was curious if the right axle could be warped? or this issue may be caused by damage wheel bearings. At any rate it has gotten unbearable decided to finally extinguish the problem.
