Camry :: 2002 Toyota - Gas Smell In Cabin When AC Turned On

May 6, 2012

I just got some work done on my Camry (CEL P0440 and P0446). The lights have been taken care of after the Charcoal Canister and hoses above the gas tank were replaced. Since then, I've noticed that I'm getting a gas smell in the cabin when the AC is turned on and when I turn the AC off and roll the windows down. No CEL is on, and I was able to pass emissions.

Toyota - Camry :: 2007 - Smell Like Cigarette When AC Turned On

I bought a used 2007 Toyota Camry LE a couple of years ago and every time I turn on the AC it smells like cigarettes. The interior of the car doesn't have an odor when the AC is off. Is there anything I can do to eliminate the smell?

Gmc - Envoy :: Smell Like Bus Exhaust Coming Into The Cabin / SES Light Turned On

Mechanics are stumped. 3 months ago, during a 4WD commute through the snow, I started noticing what at the time smelled like bus exhaust coming into the cabin. My SES lights comes on for 2-3 days, then off for 2-3 days. Codes say MAP sensor and low coolant coolant.level. When the SUV warms up fully, you can smell the odor strongly under the hood, inside the cabin while sitting at a stop light, and inside with the Heat or AC on. Mechanics had the car for days, replacing cam and Map sensors. There is no evidence of exhaust leaks or coolant on the engine. Level of coolant has been dropping slowly in the reservoir.

Toyota - Matrix :: 2006 - Rubbing Alcohol / Solvent Smell In Cabin

2006 Toyota Matrix 66k miles.I've recently developed a powerful rubbing alcohol or solvent smell in my car after it has been parked for some time, It has happened parking inside, outside, while the AC was running right before the car was turned off and when the AC was not turned on. Once the windows are opened and the car aired out, I can run the AC or blower without the smell returning.

After some preliminary digging, I found a post on Cartalk indicating it could be a cracked heater core and I'm smelling Antifreeze. I took the vehicle in to my mechanic and on my list of things to check was the smell. They could not find evidence of the smell, or a crack in the heater core, nor were any of my fluids low.

Camry 2012+ :: Still Smell After Installing New Cabin Air Filter

I have a 2013 Camry XLE V6, and it now has almost 17,400 miles on it. About a month ago, I replaced the Cabin Air Filter (was definitely dirty) and the Engine Air Filter (was somewhat dirty). I made triply sure that I installed the Cabin Air Filter the correct way (the Air Filter is easier, as there is only one way to put it on).

In any event, after the car sits a while, and I start it up, whether I let air circulate from the outside or not, when I press the fan button for the A/C, initially a "musky" smell is present, but it does go away fairly quickly. (I have not tried this in "heat" (non A/C) mode yet). Why this happens? Seems somewhat strange (by the way, I used the correct STP filters that I previously purchased at AutoZone).

Camry :: Strong Exhaust Type Smell In Cabin After Warm Up And Vents On

I just had a blown motor swapped with a used engine with around 50,000 on it in my 2002 Toyota Camry LE 4 cyl.

After driving the car enough to warm up I turned the vent on and in comes a fairly strong exhaust type smell.

I have driven the car for a little over an hour since the motor swap.

The car is driving fine with plenty of power and no sputtering or rough idling.

I just called my mechanic and he seems to think it is due to the oil that is present on/around the motor/exhaust from the swap that is burning off.

Ford - Explorer :: 2002 XLT - Antifreeze Smell When Stopped / Turned Off

I am the original owner of the 02 Explorer with 157K miles and recently started smelling antifreeze when I pull into the garage and turn the truck off. I had the water pump replaced less then 10K miles ago. Sometimes the overflow will expel some antifreeze but that has stopped. I checked and there are no leaks, that I can see. Needle on the temperature gauge reads right in the middle. What to check for? Could it be a radiator cap causing too much pressure?

Camry :: 2002 - How To Do Cabin Air Filter Orientation

2002 Camry LE 2.4

To replace the cabin air filter, there is a tray that you pull out. The tray has an arrow pointing up. I've read someone's comment on the forum that the up arrow on the filter should be oriented the same way as the up arrow on the tray. I'm wondering if the up arrow on the tray is only meant specifically for the orientation of the tray, to make sure you slide it incorrectly and not for the filter, per se.

Usually, for air filters (home, car, industrial, whatever) the arrow almost always indicates the direction of air flow. I have seen on some car air filters that the direction of the arrow just simply meant to put the filter in with the arrow pointing up, while other manufacturers mean the arrow to be pointing in the direction of air flow.

I just got this 2002 for my mom, and I'm doing the maintenance on it before I bring it to her. The very new aftermarket cabin air filter in there has the arrow pointing up, in line with the arrow on the tray. I'm much more familiar with the Gen 9 Corolla, and on that car the direction of air flow is going down. For some brands, you must put the filter with the arrow pointing down and others up, depending on what they meant (air flow direction, or orientation of filter). I assume the air flow is going down for this car. So, for this generic filter that is in there, should I switch the orientation? It doesn't have a name brand on it, but it's practically brand new, so I don't want to spend the money on a Denso or other OEM/OES filter.

Toyota - Camry :: Burning Smell Especially When Car Is Low On Oil

I have a 96 camry that has a minor oil leak. I have taken it in to get checked, and the mechanic told us that as long as I'm willing to keep putting oil in it every month, I don't have to fix anything. However, lately the car has been making a burning smell, especially when I turn on the heater, and when the car is low on oil. Also, my oil cap has some yellow gunk on it. I'm concerned that this means water is mixing with my oil.

I have had my mechanic look at it but it hasn't happened while it was at the shop. What could be wrong?

Toyota - Camry :: Gas Smell Whenever Take Several Stabs At Parking

I have a 1993 Camry 4 Cylinder Sedan with the automatic transmission. It's done a grand total of just 71k miles and hasn't given me any problems until now.

Recently, due to our living situation, I've had to park our car in the garage and seeing as I don't typically do this, it takes a few tries to get it in there. I've noticed that when I park in there the car smells very, very strongly of (I believe, I'm not 100% certain) un-burnt fuel. I've noticed the same thing happens when I make a few attempts at parking on a hill or parallel parking. This doesn't happen when I just drive head-first into the driveway or into angled parking, etc. I've also noticed that the fuel economy seems to be awful for a 4 cylinder. I've driven the car a grand total of maybe 150 miles in the last week and have refueled it to the halfway point from near empty on the gas gauge twice (that's 8 MPG for those who care). I drive it like a mattress salesman so I know my driving habits are not the source of poor mileage.

Took it to the stop, no leaks were found, nothing has failed. Mechanic told me that it's normal for the car to "run rich" at idle speeds (which is when I would notice the smell) and that I had nothing to worry about. Decided that since it was there I would get the rear brake pads replaced and resurfaced. Stops like new They also said that the gas gauge in the older Camrys would often move around like crazy at the slightest suggestion of inclination so my refueling it all the time was unnecessary. Relieving to hear.
