I have about 600 miles on my new Camry. When I come to a stop at a stop light it seems when the transmission drops to first gear it drop kinda hard or more like a jerk. Is this normal or not?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2010 Corolla S with automatic transmission. Today it started giving a push or a jerk when the 1st gear drops, so from 1st going to 2nd it pushes or jerks the car ahead. Not sure what is wrong with it, it has 56000 miles on it.

View 10 RepliesI have a friend with a 14.5 Camry that developed a transmission leak. He brings the car in to Toyota, they thought it was front pump seal. Turns out it was the case halves leaking. They are currently replacing torque converter, transmission, and trans cooler. All this at 26K.
Now is where it gets fun.. My girlfriend also has a 14.5 Camry 4 Cyl.. same car as listed above.
I go out to it, look under it and notice a " seeping " spot where I am assuming this problem has started.
She showed a technician at work ( she is a sales manager at a Toyota store) the picture. He said, looks like we have another one that needs a converter and possibly a transmission, I am assuming they will not know until it is out. her car has 25,500 miles on it.
I just picked up my 2016 4 cylinder Camry 2 weeks ago and have 1000 miles on it. I noticed that sometimes when it shifts it shifts a little bit rough, not sure if I would call it a jerk or shudder but its more pronounced to the point I can feel the shifts. Is this normal for this transmission or is this something I should have checked out?

View 4 RepliesI have 178,000 miles on my 2005 CRV and have recently been experiencing the VSA light coming on. It typically happens when I first start the car ( I have a standard transmission) and it will jerk once in first gear. I pull over and turn it off and restart it. This seems to clear the problem, however, I'm wondering what's causing it. I've been diligent about all maintenance and oil changes on the car, however, this is something new.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2012 GLS automatic with 78,000 miles on it. Till now I never had any issues but recently I started having issues with starting the car. Its taking few tried to get it started. This happened 3 times and I got it checked at 2 places and they said everything (battery, starter, alternator) looks OK and they may not be able to find the issue until car breaks down as issue looks intermittent.
Later one time, I was driving on local road and car kept moving but I felt a small jerk like engine is stopping or gear shifting...and RPM fell to 0 but car kept moving. I stopped on the shoulder and turned off the ignition. After few trials, car started again and moved fine. This same issue happened today morning on the fwy when I am driving at 70 mph. It started after few trials.
I've always wondered why the transmission automatically shirts to 4th gear when I switch to sport mode! Is this normal??? It's an i4
View 14 RepliesThis issue is driving me insane. I have taken it to 5 mechanics and no one can figure out what it is. I replaced all the motor mounts which did make it noticeably better but it's still there.
I can easily recreate it if I accelerate and then let go of the pedal. It's just a single jerk, almost like a jolt to the car. Also happens when turning off cruise control. It doesn't matter what speed or what gear I'm in. I can get a MASSIVE jolt if I switch it from reverse to drive or drive to reverse if I'm not at a complete stop but almost stopped.
It also feels like it hesitates when accelerating but it's not too bad. Mechanics say it's normal but I have owned many automatics and never experienced anything like this. What could cause it? It's a V6 2002 toyota camry LE.
Sometimes when I go into reverse it feels like it pops into reverse and it doesn't go into reverse smoothly but sometimes it does go into reverse smoothly.
View 10 RepliesI recently purchased a 2005 Camry XLE V6 (100K miles). Its in great condition and no issues except I am observing this:
-> When I come to stop (like at a stop sign), just before coming to complete stop, there is a slight forward jerk. When I come to stop slowly and smoothly, there is no problem.
the faster I come to stop the more severe is the jerk. I tried to search for answers on the web, one possibility is bad solenoid in the transmission.
2000 Hyundai Sonata 2.4 L engine, transmission drops from 4th gear to 3rd gear at cruising speed (65mph) and locks into 3rd gear, I have to stop and turn the key off and start the engine again to reset the A/T what do you think is happening?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2000 Lexus RX300 with 210,000 miles on it. We recently started to have some transmission issues. It sporadically drops into 1st gear while driving. We had the transmission fluid changed, and it did work for a short time, but it has recently started again. Is my transmission going to completely fail or is this something that is serviceable? We are trying to decide whether it's worth it to keep the car and fix it and drive it for another 100,000 miles or sell it. It looks great and drives great, otherwise.

View 3 RepliesRecently it feels like the transmission is 'hunting' drops a gear, picks up a gear when driving constant speed on flat roads. 2.0T with tiptronic. Additionally, very intermittent, the car will get a shimmy around 48-50 mph. feels more transmission related and it is not the tires since it is an intermittent issue.
View 3 RepliesBeen noticing in my 2016 Sport that there seems to be a lot of "play" in the transmission. Don't really know a better word for it. When I reverse out of my garage and put the car in drive, the car rolls back a bit. Like it's pausing a few seconds before going into gear. Don't want to take it back to the dealer a look a fool because it's "normal".
View 18 RepliesI recently inherited this car from a relative, I had it and two other vehicles she owned towed to my house about a week ago. The Sonata has under 1000 miles on it and I found a stack of repair orders from the dealer where she complained that the car wouldn't move or where it had been towed after getting stuck at an intersection while driving.
What is happening is that when I get in the car, with the engine cold, it starts up and drives fine. Then with no pattern or warning, when I stop at an intersection, the transmission acts as if its in neutral. It won't go into any gear, regardless of where I put the shifter. Its got the 2.4L GDI motor. and an automatic trans.
I had to tow it 5 times now. I took it to the local dealer and they found nothing wrong, no codes, and couldn't reproduce the problem. Yet when I went to pic it up, it did it a block from the dealer, I had to push the car to the shoulder at the light. I walked to the dealer, they had a tech come out to the car and by the time he got there the problem was gone. I took it home, and when I got home, I shut it off, then tried starting it and moving it again and nothing, it wouldn't move at all, no forward, no reverse. I find that if I cycle the key, on and off, sometimes the issue will go away instantly. I also never does it cold, only after driving it a bit. It has never done anything wrong while driving at speed, only when coming to a stop and trying to move again.
When it happens, the shifter moves fine, the engine revs and there are no warning lights on the dash, it just acts like its in neutral regardless of what gear the shifter is in. It doesn't creep or pull at all, there's no movement at all when it acts up and I have to drive it to get it to do it, it can idle in the driveway all day and won't do it till I take it down the road and come to a stop and try to start moving again.
Out of frustration I bought a scan tool to see what's up but as long as the scan tool is plugged in, it doesn't act up. I've been driving it for two days without it doing it. Thinking it may be just coincidence, I unplugged the scan tool, took a ride and it did it at the first intersection, I had to shut the car off, plug in the scanner to get the car back home. I called the dealer and was told that this was impossible.
I'm starting to feel like I'm on my own with this one since the dealer seems to not be able to find the issue. I am really having a hard time believing that the dealer can't make it act up but if they're plugging a scan tool in, and driving it, maybe that's why?
As I was entering a highway onramp today, the transmission stuck and didn't shift between what I'm guessing was 3rd and 4th gear. It was revving at about 5000 RPM and stayed there.
After what felt like about 10 seconds, it got its act together and shifted and the revving stopped.
I around 1200 miles. The car would get going when i give it gas but it feels as if their was shifting lag or slipage. Only in first gear. Doesn't happen all the tho..usually happens on rolling stops... is this normal?
