On my `87 Caprice Classic 305 the brake warning light came on so I topped off the fluid but the light remains on. Brake peddle travel is good and my car has good braking. Am wondering what else triggers the warning light to illuminate.
View 2 RepliesToday, I was driving my 89 Caprice, and I got the "Battery" warning light flash several times.
After, I noticed my headlamp not turning on anymore, as well as the instrument panel light. After playing around, my interior light doesn't work as well.
When I have the radio on, and I press the "headlamp" switch on the left side, the Radio goes into static. What could the issue be?
My 2010 III's hybrid warning light illuminated today while I was driving, and the vehicle shut down almost immediately.
View 10 RepliesMy 93 Caprice is having brake issues. I replaced the master cylinder and bled each of the lines, but the pedal is still spongy and the brake light comes on as the pedal reaches the floor. I'm not sure what in the system to check/replace next.
View 11 RepliesIn my one-owner purchased-new 2005 Prius w/ 74K miles and w/ no maintenance/accident history other than doing all scheduled maintenances at Toyota Dealers along w/ recalls applicable at each time (other than we had Toyota replace the 12V battery last year just because I knew it would die at some point anyway and I don't like pushing my luck; I'm not 100% certain if there's been a recall on any water pump for this car and if so, don't believe the dealer has mentioned it), I have the following indicators which appeared all at once while I was driving along at around 45 MPH in no unusual circumstances (80F, dry afternoon, about 30 minutes into a trip of mixed speeds, no loads in the vehicle, no effect on the car while driving):
From Left to Right on the display:
1) Red Triangle - Master Warning Light
2) Orange (Symbol)CHECK - Malfunction Indicator Lamp
3) Orange (!) - Brake Warning Light (but it didn't highlight the word 'Brake' in red)
4) Orange VSC - Vehicle Stability Control Warning Light
On the Screen:

We immediately aimed for the house (about 5 miles away); the car drove perfectly fine, with the engine stopping and starting at lights as needed, with speeds going from the 55MPH we were traveling at the time of the alarms down to 0 and back up thru 35/45 MPH and such per normal off-interstate driving. The battery currently shows all the blue bars, and the engine and hybrid systems showed charge/discharge as usual as we drove. There was no discernible change in the driving reaction of the car to brake, steering, accelerator, etc.
1987 Acura Integra 165k... After parking the car, and turning off the engine, and locked the car, the brake light continue to stay on for about 10mins - then goes off on its on.What seems to be the problem - easy to fix?
View 6 RepliesI've got some issues with my 2005 Toyata Prius (~150,000 miles). My wife was driving recently and the "Master Warning Light", the "Hybrid System Warning Light" and the yellow "Brake System Warning Light" all came on.
Some quick reading of the owners manual said we should take it to a dealer right away, but because it was a yellow, and not red, brake system warning light it seems ok to drive at least to a dealer. in regard to the yellow brake system light the manual said it could be that: "the regenerative brake system failed or that the hydraulic brake system failed".
Now, I have a cheap bluetooth OBD reader hooked up to the "torque" app on my phone and I thought I would try to see what error codes there were to learn more. But strangely, it did not read any fault codes. I've used this reader successfully on my 2001 Mitsubishi galant, but I'm not reading anything for the prius in this case. I'm not sure if there is legitimately no error code associate with the warning lights or if my app is just failing to read them for some reason.
I recently purchased a 2001 Prius from a state fleet auction. The car has 121,000 miles and was in the non-running part of the auction. It had been sitting at least four months. I decided to give it a go since it looked to be in decent condition.
It did not start because of a dead 12v battery. I bought a replacement battery, but it still did not start. The screen showed ~ 1/8 hybrid battery. The warning lights illuminated and it was never ready. I plugged in my code scanner and a P3030 code came up.
I got it towed home and started working on it. The P3030 code signifies a high voltage line snapped .
Having issue with the hand brake? It works fine, just when I want to release it, the brake light stays on and when you drive away hand brake warning comes up and I have to play with the handle to make the brake light go away after release...
View 8 RepliesDriving home early from work today, moments after leaving the parking lot the VSC warning light illuminated. Followed by ABS and Power steering lights a few seconds later.
Car drove normally. Systems seemed healthy.
I quickly pulled over, took this picture, and then power cycled the car. The warning lights turned [off] and stayed off for remainder of drive home (~30 min).
I finally found the Prius I wanted. It's used. 2006. Gen II 220k miles. Bought at auction almost completely dead and no gas. After adding gas and driving so the main battery charges. It starts up great however the dash looks a little scary with nearly every warning light on.
View 19 RepliesI recently did all new suspension on my caprice...new springs all around...new shocks all around....all new ball joints and all the tie rods brand new too and new sway bar... after installing everything i took the car to the shop and they did alignment and said they checked everything out and said i was good to go. The reason i did all new suspension in the first place was because a noise i was getting which i believed to be a bad ball joint so i just went ahead and did everything since i had to pull the control arms and what not. after everything is said and done the car is still making the same noise....its like a clicking noise which only happens when i apply the brake and the car lurches forward it sounds like a popping like something isn't tight and the car is moving forward on the frame or something....it doesn't happen in reverse and happens at all speeds sometimes one click sometimes 3 consecutive...
View 14 RepliesThis afternoon, after driving about 150 miles, I came home and shut off my 2001 Prius. It was sitting for about 20 minutes before I turned it back on to drive off. Almost immediately, the hybrid warning light came on on the MFD, the red exclamation mark light illuminated, as well as the check engine light, and the motor shut off. I popped the hood, and could hear a high pitched squeal coming from near the inverter. I called my dealer to ask the service department what I should do, and they just told me to bring it in and they will take a look at it. I live over an hour away, so I don't want to bring it there if I can avoid it. I then shut it off and let it sit for a few hours.
After reading about the possibility of the auxiliary battery being bad, I went and turned the Prius on, and then shut it off several times to reset the hybrid warning light (I had to do so in order to access the aux battery information through the MFD). It turned on without incident, and shut off fine, and after being reset the hybrid warning light shut off, as well as the red triangle light. Then, I went through the process of pulling up the battery voltage information through the MFD.
With the car off, and the lights and fans off, the battery voltage read about 10.0-10.5 V. With the lights and fan on, the voltage dropped to about 9.5 V. After getting those readings, I drove it down the road a little ways, just going about 20 mph. It seemed to work fine. The check engine light is still illuminated. With the motor running, the voltage reading was 13.2 V, and then when I got back from my test drive and shut it off, the voltage hovered at 10.6 V with the lights and fan on.
We recently purchased a used 2006 Prius. The vehicle has approximately 74K on it now. Well the other day my wife went to leave work and pressed the power button while pressing the brake pedal, and the Master Warning Light and brake warning light both came on. The car would not allow her to shift the car so she tried to turn it off and it wouldn't do that either. After about 5 minutes she finally got the car to turn off, and when she restarted the sequence everything went back to normal and she drove home fine.
We called 2 dealers and they both seem to be confused by the symptoms, but one thought that maybe the battery was old on the transmitter. So thinking that might make sense I replaced the battery with a new one.
I've had the brake pad warning light intermittently come on and off in the last week. I took the front left wheel off and had a quick look and there is still 10mm of pad on the outer, also the connection going to the pad seems to be fine.
Is this warning light just an over precaution from VW and I still have plenty of meat left on my brake pads and km's, or should I thoroughly check them all or take it to the mechanic to be on the safe side.
I was driving home and i got a sensor light ive never seen before(at least its not an o2 sensor cel!!!!!!again )about a mile or two from the house today. ,so i drove on to my indi mech.appx.1mile from house and he looked at it before i even found it in the manual, he mentioned it was a low brake pad warning light,so my next questions are i didnt hear or feel anything different ,and i use the tip trans whenever i can but in the 40,000 miles my wife and then me driving it i guess its due,.probably wasnt checked at inspection ,....so is there any possible caliper damage from waiting till i saw the light ,or is it usually just pads and rotors replacement at that point,and how much can it be driven untill i gets an in for appt.at the shop with pbr dustless pads installed this time .......
View 5 RepliesYesterday while doing a test run on my car, I had the "low brake pad" warning light come on in my car. I pulled the front wheels off to have a look and the pads looked fine. I followed the sensor cable to see if there was a short/open in it and I found on the vehicle-side of the wire harness that one of the wires came loose and detached from the harness. (that isn't a phenomenal description, but I hope you at least understand) Needless to say, I think I need to replace the wire harness. Is there a part number for JUST the plug, or am I looking at a whole assembly? With the searching I did, the only info I found was to short the circuit by cutting and splicing, but I would much rather fix it the right way.
View 5 Repliesthe brake warning light ( on the dash ) is randomly going on and off, even at driving speeds. have had it looked at but no problems could be found. the brakes are fine ,couldn't find any wiring problems. some days it won't even come on at all ,and some days it does with no particular pattern.
View 1 RepliesI have recently had an issue with the brake warning light coming for 15 seconds or so after navigating a freeway cloverleaf etc. It doesn't come on under any other circumstances. Of course, this sounds like a low brake fluid issue (fluid moves to one side of the reservoir in the corner, causing the sensor to report the fluid is low). However, I have checked the fluid level in the reservoir, and it is very near the full line. I see no external evidence of leakage anywhere (not surprising since the fluid level in the reservoir isn't low), and the brakes work exactly as they always have.
I know the brake light can indicate problems with the traction battery (brand new, in my case), but that doesn't seem to be likely considering the consistently intermittent nature of the warning light illumination. Does the brake warning light monitor anything else other than certain traction battery issues, brake fluid level, and the parking light being on? Is the sensor for the brake fluid level a simple float like I have seen on other vehicles?
Within the past two weeks i've had a warning light that came on. it has come on about 4 times once 2 times within about 5 minutes. the warning comes up on the display screen on the dashboard and says STOP then brake failure then service manual. i've already taken it to a dealer to get it checked out and it came back with nothing. that was after the second time it happened. it has since happened again. it seems to only be happening on cold mornings. i don't know if this has and effect.
