Celica :: Knocking Noise Coming From Motor

Nov 26, 2013

I've had this strange knocking noise ever since may coming from my motor. I thought, it might go away if i push the car a little. But it's been 6 months, and the thing is still going hard. What I'm experiencing is kind of a knocking noise, something akin to marbles being shaken up in some kind of jar, and it is only at partial throttle. Starts at 2000 rpms and goes all the way until redline. What it could be? Engine sounds perfectly fine at idle, power is still there. MPG's are the same... I've also read a couple threads that indicate that it could be my intake manifold, I am really not that good with cars, shameful but i admit.

Btw while i was browsing found a repair manual on the net [URL] ....

Subaru - Outback :: 1998 - Intermittent Knocking / Tapping Coming From The Top End Of Motor

The car in question is a 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback. Just had the heads resurfaced and new gaskets, and timing belt. Runs great. Acceleration is good, stays cool. However, it has developed an intermittent knock/tapping. it sounds like its coming from the top end of motor. I added Marvel Mystery and the noise left for about a week but came back. Is this the beginning of the end? Or could it be a small problem involving the lifters/followers/valves?

Pontiac - Sunfire :: Knocking / Tapping / Clanking Sound Coming From Motor - Increases With Higher Rpm?

The car is a 1997 pontiac sunfire 4 cyl 2.4L.When the car is turned on it makes a sound like the one in the mp3 file that I've attached. Some other symptoms I've noticed is a very slight loss of power while accelerating, and whenever I pull up to a stop and the engine gets into the idle rpm range (800-1000) the oil light comes on and the rpm dips to about 400 and sometimes the engine dies. The engine is also running very very hot, although I haven't driven the car in about 2 months and it's 100 degrees outside, not sure if that's related.

What I have tried so far is replacing the oil and filter, and adding 2/5 a pint of seafoam engine additive for 4 quarts of oil as per the instructions on the bottle. I did this because I suspected it was a stuck lifter, but after driving it for 30 miles with no improvement I'm starting to think otherwise.

As some of you may know I'm not entirely mechanically inclined and that's why I'm here, sometimes I get posts from people who insist I shouldn't be anywhere near an engine but let's try to keep those negative posts off my thread.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Knocking Noise When Installed New Motor

Okay just installed a newer 24v into my existing 24v VR6 GTI both with 135k. I have heard the motor run before it was pulled and sold to which sounded fine. Upon receiving the motor I put new timing chains, guides, headgasket and new gaskets all around. The timing was right on the mark and I tightened everything up to torque spec and I'm getting this noise which sounds like it's from the timing cover area. A code just popped on which I'm going to scan as soon as I get my hands on one. The car was running great for about 20 minute and I shut it off then turned it back on about 5 minutes later and experiencing these scary noises. I tried pulling each individual coil with no results to get the noise away. What could this be?

Celica :: 2002 - Power Steering Loud Whining Noise After Motor Swap

I am a Honda/Acura nerd. Decided to buy my friends 02 Celica that had piston slap from the famous oil consumption issue i learned about. Did a bunch of research and swapped in a Corolla motor. Everything seemed to go as normal, its in and running just fine. Only problem is now the power steering pump is making a very loud whining noise like its low on fluid.

Now first i must say the car ran, drove and turned just fine before the swap. No noises or issues aside from the piston slap. On the 1zzfe engine there is 2 bolts to remove the power steering pump and move it out of the way, easy enough.

My question is how did the power steering pump manage to get damaged? I've inspected under the car a bunch of times, inspected the top of the power steering pump, inspected everything i could looking for a problem. I just don't see any...no smashed hardlines, no leaks, has plenty of fluid, sensor is firmly plugged in. I notice when it is making the whining sound, the hardline that connects to the top of the pump is vibrating, which is what is making the sound i guess...if i crank the wheel all the way to the right or left it doesn't make the noise at all...

Golf/GTI VI :: Strange Knocking Noise From Motor - RMP Gauge Dipping Then Going Back Up

My girlfriends 2010 Golf 2.5 is worrying me. We went on a weekend vacation to Boston so the car sat for 3 days. I go to turn it on tonight and it just immediately stalls. I was like okay thats weird so I turn it back on and instead of stalling, the RMP gauge keeps dipping and then going back up and theres a strange knocking noise, so I turn it off and then decide to try again. Same thing happens so I go to open the hood and the noise is pretty loud. I noticed a strange smell outside the car while the motor was running, but I can't really explain it. So I turn it off for about 2 minutes and then start it again and its just back to normal, I'm so confused. I drove it about 5 miles and it seems fine, aside from idling slightly rougher than normal. What this could be?

Celica :: Noise Coming From The Rear Of The Car

I am looking for a 2000-2004 Celica for my son and have noticed that all of the cars I have test driven have had an inordinate amount of noise coming from the rear of the car. It sounds like wheel bearing noise and increases in loudness as you increase speed. I did notice on 2 cars that one or both rear tires were worn such that they had feathered tread wear which might cause a knobby effect (like mud tires on a truck). The other cars had smooth tread wear but still made a roaring noise at-speed.

Celica :: 7A-FE Engine - Noise Coming From Valvetrain Area?

I just got done rebuilding my 7A-FE engine and I noticed that at idle its somewhat noisy from the engine bay. With the hood popped it sounds like its coming from the valvetrain area, like around the valve cover/intake manifold noise. I'll have to get a video up of it. It's not a grinding noise or anything like that, it just sounds like the valvetrain itself is just noisy.

Are these engines just chatty like that? I know I've heard of the 1zz being somewhat noisy.

Phaeton :: Knocking Noise Coming From Right Of The Car

Recently took the car on a trip to eire with a grand total of 1500 miles covered with 4 adults and a boot full of gear and the car was faultless returning an unbelievable 37:9 mpg which I find staggering considering I was not hanging around and the weight in the boot was at the limit as my mates crammed in 6 cases of beer for good measure.

Now the faults that I noticed on the long drive, above 70 mph the drivers door has a wind noise like there's a gap at the top of the door although below 70 and its silent...

I did read that it can be seals or may need a door adjustment- I checked the seals and they are as new (cars only 42 month old) but i do think the drivers door is 1-2 mm lower as trim inside seems slightly lower.

I have a warranty so should I drop car off ? I will have to read but I don't know if this adjustment will be covered.

The second fault is a little more serious...

their is a knocking noise coming from the from right of the car at low speed (below 25mph) and seems exaggerated with right turns no vibration.

So I'm doing some work on my friends car he just bought, 1990 gts, rebuilt 5sfe, not sure how thoroughly it was rebuilt, there seems to be a metal grinding noise coming from somewhere in the belts, sounds almost like water pump, belt tensioner, ac clutch, or something along those lines. I don't know much about these motors, anything commonly go out on these?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Knocking Noise Coming From Rear?

WRD Coilovers on my MK4 GTI. I finished my install this evening, and on my first test drive I noticed a knocking noise in the rear. I believe it is the springs sitting a little loose. The front of the car is sitting a bit lower than the rear, so I believe most of the weight is shifted towards the front, therefore making the springs kinda free float? I jacked her up after the drive and kinda gave the springs a wiggle and they have a tiny bit of play, enough to hear the spring kinda TING against the perch. I suppose I'm going to raise the front a bit to try and distribute the weight more evenly.

BMW :: 1999 - Noise Coming From Motor?

I have a 1999 3 series BMW, 115K, 5 speed, always used full synthetic oil, as did the previous owner. After a cold start, even at moderate/warm temperatures (65 degrees), for the first 2 - 3 minutes after the RPMs go over 1200 or 1300, I hear a noise from the motor, almost like a slight rattling/scraping sound of sorts, not very loud. The BMW dealer advised it is a known problem from new, and that the solution is a new oil pump. They advised that the repair is not necessary and to keep driving. My hunch is that the top of the motor is not being sufficiently lubricated after the cold start. I should further add that the car drives great, and I just took it on a 750 mile highway trip without any problems. The oil light always goes out, even on a cold day with a cold start, within 1 second after starting.

Golf IV R32 :: Knocking Noise Coming From The Front Passenger Area

Just picked up my BMP R32 last week. The car is MINT, only 25k on her, seriously probably one of the cleanest, stock mkiv r32's left. I got every single service record since brand new, all done by a Volkswagen dealer.

Only problem is, a knocking noise has just started to develop, coming from the front passenger area somewhere. It is only noticeable when I brake or let off the gas after accelerating, but definitely more noticeable when braking. At first I thought it was something rolling around in the door, but now it seems clearly suspension related, or a loose bolt or something?

Touareg :: Knocking Noise Coming From Engine On Driver Side

2005 V8 TREG 74,000 miles ... Just last week.... My T-reg started to hear this knocking noise which seems to come from the engine on the driver side... I would say lifter sound but hoping that's not the issue. I do notice that when i start the car, no noise but when driven on the highway... I hear it especially when i come off the highway. On regular street drives, it takes a while for the noise to come up. I've had the Treg for about a year now and havent had any problems but this. I drive the car during the weekends and sometimes during the week.

Ford - F150 :: Knocking Noise Coming From Lower In The Engine

Recently, I was stopped in my 03 F-150 with 124,000 miles. All of the sudden one day, the engine started knocking. The knocking was coming from lower in the engine. After sitting for about two hours, I started it again. At first, no knocking, then intermittent knocking, then steady and after about 3 or 4 min, the knocking stops all together. Oil level has always been checked and it has never run low on oil. What on earth causes an intermittent knock?

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Knocking Thumping Noise Coming From The Right Front

I replaced my struts and shocks a few weeks ago and i installed lowering springs H&R. Yesterday i started hearing this knocking thumping noise coming from the right front of the car me and my uncle took the wheel off today and looked around and everything was nice and tight we proceed to both push down on the right corner of the car to have it bounce up and down and we heard the same knocking sound coming from the right front area it sounds almost as if the strut blew out in the front right would the symptoms i described concur with the front strut being blown out, and on a side note the struts are only a few weeks old is this even possible since the struts are so new? I do have 20" rims on the car with low profile tires could i have hit a pothole hard enough to cause the strut to blow out? Iam planning on taking a trip to the dealer tomorrow and have them check it out.
