View 2 RepliesI had put on about 300 miles on the car in my sig before this started happening. Every once in a while as the car goes to upshift it will free rev a couple hundred rpm before falling into the next gear. I have not been driving it hard at all and have been driving easy when this happens.
Could be something as simple as needing a fluid change but the thing only has 34,000 miles on it, I hope it's not serious.
Upon a cold start up it sounds like the serp belt squeaks for about half a second on a pulley that isn't spinning freely. That's what it sounds like. I am just wondering, are these "known issues" with these cars?
I have a 2010 Corolla S (5spd manual) with 51,xxx miles on it. I have noticed that when I start the engine the belt gives off a squeak and some times lasts a little longer than the last time... I have noticed that in colder weather the squeaking nose is noticeably louder and lasts longer. My father was speaking with a kid who has the same car as me and had the same problem. He informed my father that it was his water pump that was causing this to happen and he had it replaced under warranty by Toyota.

I also had a 94 camry which had a alternator connected to a belt. and if i wanted to tighten up that belt i would just loosen the alternator and pull it. Is there a way to tighten up serpentine belt in my 05 corolla in the same way?.

View 5 RepliesI have an 03 vr and my serpentine belt squeals when I first start the car up and after it warms up it will go away at idle but starts to squeal again when i accelerate. I can not seem to find what is causing this. After I start it and sprites a little water on it near the power steering pulley the squeal will disappear then come right back. I've tried new belt new tensioner and new power steering pulley. What else I could try or look for...

View 4 RepliesI have a 2010 Corolla (purchased December of '09) and just recently the radio has started acting up. Since it got cold last year, it seems after long periods with the heater on, the radio unit display will go haywire. Today, the display did the same thing after my car sat in the sun for a couple of hours (and it was pretty warm inside). Obviously it doesn't make any sense to me, but I thought the display was trying to tell me that it's "too hot" Buttons on the unit will intermittently malfunction as well.
For example, hitting "2" will turn the unit off, pressing another preset number will switch the radio from FM to AM. Keeping the unit off while driving doesn't seem to fix the issue - but it does correct itself after a while.
So I just traded my old car in for this one and I've had it maybe a little over a month. Anyways, when I go to start it now, even if I just turn on the main power and let the radio start up and the computer and then turn the engine. When it turns, majority of the time it will "squeal" like there something might be going wrong with a belt in there. I know that the timing belt should be changed once every so many miles, just not so sure on my vehicle. Also, if it could be anything else besides that.

It still runs fine, but my concern is that when I start it that there is a squeaking or screeching like a belt is not tight enough or is too tight in the engine somewhere. That and there is a rattling that sounds like a bunch of marbles bouncing off of metal or as if there is something loose that is metal and just making vibrations from the way the engine is running. It drives fine, I have no other problems. I still have amazing gas mileage and everything else. What could be the issue and could I fix it from home?

View 9 Replieshave an 2009 Toyota Corolla 62K miles. If the car sits out 8 hours or more in VERY COLD (zero degrees) weather makes a 1-2 second clashing/sparking noise the split second after turning the ignition on but before engine starts. I tried to attach video/audio. The car starts and runs fine. isn't a ticking or knocking or tapping noise assoc. with bad engine. It isn't squealing noise assoc. w/ serpentine belt. I've been waiting for it to get cold enough to leave overnight at Toyota dealer. I keep wondering if it isn't related to the botched oil changed at the Toyota dealer a couple yrs ago when they forgot the oil & I ran car about 30-60 seconds. At the time, they said all was okay and did compression test (Cyl 1=178psi, #2=175 #3=180 #4=178) all within the normal specs 145-189. I got a 2nd opinion at another Toyota dealer at time who removed valve cover and inspected cam caps and scoped cylinder walls and said all was okay and compression good. No mechanical problems- uses no oil, check engine light not on, etc. What noise is and why just when very cold and car sits out long time?

So I open up the glove box and see directly above the cabin filter there are three openings that should be covered with a mesh material. This material has broken and fallen off completely. What is the reason why I couldn't just tape them up, does the material have to be porous?
View 7 Replies2011 corolla ... My AC have not been working well lately and it's been incredibly hot out here in so cal.
The problem: AC takes a while to blow out cold air. It blows as if it was a fan, instead of AC... even at max. Ive let it run for about 30 mins, and no luck. Just a hot air blowing fan with the AC light on. It would get slightly cold at times, but it isn't enough for me.
I took my car to the dealership a couple of weeks ago with this concern... and they said they could not find any problems, and that it was working properly, blowing cold air at 44 degrees.
I've looked at the car myself to see if i could find any possible culprits... a refrigerant leak came to mind, or it may need to be recharged... but i could not see it.
My fiance has a 97 Corolla had belt that was located near the engine block on the passenger side going long ways. This belt had a frayed edge since she and I started dating(over 2 years). Whenever asked about it, she said that any dealership or shop she took it to for something else said that it was fine or they didn't think it needed to be worked on/fixed. Alarms for me? Yes, but it's her car. For whatever reason, it hasn't been fixed.
Yesterday, the battery light kept flashing on and off and the steering became hard and sluggish, as if the power steering wasn't working. We got home and I opened it up and the belt was gone except for a few solid strands left.
So, is this the timing belt, or something else? And what is required to fix it?I'm also in the process of hunting down my Haynes book for this car still but wanted to ask the masses that exist here.After finding the book, it looks to be called the serpentine drive belt.
In colder climates have frost on the inside of the glass first thing in the morning?
View 3 RepliesI do have an issue with a 2010 Toyota Corolla A/C. It is not blowing any cold air, just ambient air.
Try troubleshooting it by checking the freon on the low port. Reading was very high so it seems like the compressor clutch is not engaged. However, in reading up about 2010 version, I found there is actual no physical compressor clutch. There is also no "relay" to bypass such that you can engage the clutch. Reading further seems to indicate that it's a solenoid system, which I'm not familiar with.
