I have been noticing this Rotten egg/sulfur exhaust smell I have been getting for the past 2 months. So far it only happens when the engine hits 3000rpm or higher.

I have a 2011 Corolla S, Manual Transmission...Since ive got it i shift gears at 3,000 RPM's, I have a buddy who shifts every 3,500 RPM's. Is There any benefits to shifting at higher RPM's during the break in of the engine?

View 12 RepliesI've owned this vehicle for the past year. This 2009 Corolla XRS manual has a very annoying steering rattle which took me the whole year to finally breakdown and diagnose. There are many forums stating this rattle is associated with the intermediate shaft assembly #2. I did end up replacing this part 45260-02110, hoping this would fix the rattling or knocking issue. It did not, but smoothness the steering has improved. I removed the upper portion of the intermediate shaft to pinpoint the sound. Originally I believed the noise may have been coming through the bulkhead from the intermediate shaft #1 or steering rack. I checked under the boot and everything was snug. Then I rattled the steering wheel around and this what I found.
It seems the noise is coming from the pinion where the power steering motor meets the steering column. You can hear the knocking noise with settle steering wheel movements. As I move faster, the knock turns into a rattle at higher speeds most likely vibration from the road. At this time, I do not want to disassemble the whole column just to see if I can adjust the motor height (if possible).

I purchased a 2011 Chevrolet Impala last year with 14,000. When the car reach 26,000 I begin to smell a very strong sulfur smell coming from the exhaust. I took the car to the local Chevrolet dealer and was told that the particles in the catalytic converter begin to break up at about 26,000 mile and the result is a sulfur smell.
I didn't believe that all Impalas had this problem. So I took it to the Chevrolet dealer in the next town where I personally know and trust the maintenance chief. He put his two best men on the car and could not find anything wrong. I was told to try another gas station which I did but it did not work. I now have 31,000 miles on the car and the smell is very strong coming into the passenger compartment when stopped.
Just put a dual flowmaster exhaust on my truck, a week later my engine light came on. I also smell a sulfer smell and the truck seems to sutter when in gear at a stop, and also hard to start at times. What this could be!
View 9 RepliesMy 2003 F150, 5.4L has been having some rough idle/misfires issues both at idle and under load.
I have fixed one big vacuum leak, replaced the PCV valve, new sparkplugs, seafoam and heet in the gas, replaced fuel filter, tested the fuel injector resistance. Coolant levels have not changed. The truck burns about a quart of oil every 1000 miles or so. The white exhaust is heavier than condensation, but it comes and goes. The rough idling comes and goes as well, and it usually happens under load and the CEL flashes.
The codes I get are random cylinders, po303, po308, po171, po174 were the most recent but there have been other cylinders as well. I clear the codes after each attempt to fix it and they come back different.
I notice that there is a small exhaust leak that drips water just behind the engine, and when I shut down the truck a lot of water will pour out of an area just behind the cab on the passenger side as well as out of the bottom of the muffler (small hole, looks drilled).
Usually the rough idle occurs after filling up the tank, but from different stations so I do not think it would be watery gas. I use Heet every fill up as well. Also, there is a sulfur smell after the rough idling occurs (catalytic converter?).

View 1 RepliesMy 2009 Corolla "S" has a musty yucky smell that happens off and on. It is coming out of the vents on the dash, and it is worse when the air conditioner is on.
My mechanic has smelled it, but does not know what it is that is causing it.
I put a new filter in behind the glove box, but I think it was worse after that. So strange that it comes and goes like it does.
2009 Corolla S 5 speed. Well had a slight over rev, engine died. Well needless to say I know the 1.8 has floating rockers. But the lifter popped out on the exhaust side and wedge into the cam and cracked the head around the lifter. Already have all the parts to fix this. However alldata says I need to remove the whole engine to replace the head.
View 9 RepliesMy fiance has a 2011 Corolla LE. A couple years ago this weird smell started coming through her AC vents. It is intermittent happening when the car is parked or in drive. Once the smell comes through the AC the only way to make it stop it to push the AC button so that normal air blows through, turn outside air on, or switch the AC air speed a couple times, or just wait a minute or two. I changed the engine and cabin filter, sprayed the vents and everything else with cleaner and check the drain tube. I don't know what else to do.

View 3 RepliesMy 2012 corolla has got about 7500 on it, and recently whenever I turn off the A/C, and keep it running on fan, it smells like old socks or really bad B.O. through the vents. Stays like this for about 5 minutes and goes away.
I heard of spraying Lysol through the air intakes, is it the one right below the windshield wipers? I know I should probably take out the cabin air filter and give that a thorough cleaning as well. Is there anything else I should do to eliminate the smell?It's getting to be pretty bad..
After driving the corolla 10 mi or more , I always smell burning rubber at the rear tires.
Could it be the rear alignment?
Is it adjustable?
I have a Corolla XLi 2010 (1.6) which from the moment I bought the car it had this problem with the AC (I bought it used and was informed about the issue so I got it with a good price).
The AC sometimes starts and sometimes it doesn't I thought it was just lacking of freon gas but wasn't that, and except this problem the second one is that sometimes it smells like mold coming from the AC. May be are related or maybe not, but I really want to resolve these issues asap.
I'm adding some more info, when the AC isn't working I don't hear the AC sound, and of course when it's working I hear the classic AC sound, and another "thingy" is that when I push the car around 120km/h the AC keeps working more , and also some times if isn't working and I hit the turbo increasing the RPM and making the car scream like a sport car , suddenly the AC starts (but I don't do thsi all the time) and it's just my impression of daily-use.
I have a 2012 Toyota Corolla LE. When the A/C is first turned on, a strange, musty smell comes from the air vents. As the system cools, the smell changes slightly but never goes away. It has done this since shortly after I bought the vehicle. Dealer has checked cabin air filter and says it is OK.
View 5 RepliesI just got a 2009 Corolla S back in October. Everything is great so far. Until last weekend when I was driving uphill on the streets of San Francisco where I noticed there's a distinct burnt rubber smell coming from the right rear wheel.
Have this issue after driving on a steep climb? My first oil change is coming up soon and I'll mention this for sure with my dealership. I checked the web and the forums here and nobody have seem to mention it yet. I have an auto transmission by the way.
I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla. It's out of warranty. And it has about 40k Miles.
Today, while driving home, I smelled smoke/burning and it's definitely coming from the control panel on the driver side (where are the locks and window buttons are). There was smoking coming out of that control panel.
To me, this sounds like something a dealership should really fix since those control panels are usually so unique to the maker and model? But I could be wrong, since I'm terrible with cars.

I've got a couple of issues with a 2002, 2.7ltr v6 santa fe first off when taking off steady the car runs fine but taking off quickly it seems to lack power until it hits around 3000-3500rpm est then it takes off fine and all threw the upper rev range the auto seams sluggish but I'm not shore as I haven't driven another 2.7ltr as a benchmark. No error codes are present.
The second issue I brought a new keyless remote for the car and looked up a thread on how to program this they had reference to a set switch behind the fuse box behind the lower dash panel I went looking and found what I think is the remote receiver it has what is like a antenna cable plugged into it but no set-off switch at all is there any way to get this new remote programed or will it have to be done threw dealer or is there something I would be missing?
I have a 2011 corolla. the engine just dont have any pep. is there a way to swap 1.8 for a 2.4 . is it worth the effort. or how can i get more pep without sinking lots into it.
