I had a creaking in the sunroof that the dealer resolved a while ago but now have one or 2 rattles from the inside back area (maybe the hatch) even on small bumps. I already took everything out except the spare tire and don't think that is it.
View 15 RepliesI just picked up a new Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, 2015. It now has about 1,400km on it and I have recently noticed a very annoying high pitched chirping rattle that is coming from somewhere in the back. I hear it inside of the car with me so I don't think there are any issues with the safety of the vehicle itself.
I notice the noise every time I drive, and more-so when the road is uneven. It sounds like a tin or metal object rattling against something else. I am not sure if the noise is coming from the back seats or the back door panels... or maybe even the tailgate. I have been trying to search similar issues but I don't know what else to do. I have a service appointment scheduled at the dealership next week but it seems that issues like this don't really get resolved because the mechanics can't pinpoint where they are coming from... or they can only offer a temporary fix. I really do not want my back seats or door panels removed so I am trying to pinpoint where the noise is coming from myself before I take it in so I can explain it to the mechanic in more detail...
When I took someone for a ride and he sat in the back seat to try and listen to the noise, it seemed to die down in sound quite a bit so that leads me to believe the seats may be the issue.
I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra Limited and have noticed a rattle in the front driver's door area near the Dash. It's hard to pinpoint where exactly it is coming from. The rattle can be heard even on smoothish roads and sounds like a little screw or something else is loose or rubbing against something. I checked that sunglasses holder and made sure nothing was in there but the rattle is still there.

View 1 RepliesI recently purchased a 2009 Camry with 95,000 miles. The Camry was purchased new at the dealer that I bought it from and all of the maintenance had been done at the same dealer so I have records of everything.
I did not notice any rattles when I test drove the Camry but driving it the next day I noticed two rattles. The first rattle was the deck area behind the back seat. That was easily fixed with some card board shims placed the right places. I will do a permanent fix later.
The other rattle was driving me crazy. It did not do it all of the time and to me it sounded "exactly" like it was coming from the area around or in the glove box. I took the glove box and the area around it off and could not find the source of the rattle. I had my daughter drive the car while I set in the passenger seat and the rattle never occurred.
I finally found the source of the rattle. It was the lid for the center console. The lid originally had two rubber bumpers. Both of the bumpers were either missing or worn completely down. When I had my elbow on the center console lid the rattle did not occur. I fixed it with stick on drawer stops.
Experienced an occasional (not always) rattle in the passenger rear area of the 2012 Elantra GLS. I have a video on YouTube of this specific rattle that I will post eventually, it says i have to wait a few days until I can post links on here.

I have tried removing the rear deck and no luck, There are now nothing in the trunk except for my spare tire kit. the rattle gets louder when I fold down the rear seat. The rattle seems worse and more frequent when the car is between 10 to 60 km/s...
I had a 12" sub installed in my trunk & was getting a horrendous rattle from the rear deck area. My first instinct was to put Dynamat everywhere but after some googling i ended up filling the underside of the rear deck area with trashbags!! I pushed 5 of them through the opening where you access the 3rd brake light & it now it sounds perfect. I uploaded a video to youtube with a sound test.....
View 6 RepliesI was rear-ended this morning, and can't get into my trunk. Is there anyway to lower the seats from the inside of the cab to get my stuff out? It will probably be at least a week before it gets repaired, and I don't want to have to tie down my trunk.
I am impressed on how my vehicle handled the accident. It doesn't look bad, and I didn't feel much, but it tore up the whole rear end. At least $5k damage.
Nothing is more annoying to me than constant rattles and noises in a vehicle. My 2012 Limited Elantra makes a couple of noises that are really annoying. The first is a constant light rattle the seems to come from the dome light area or the sunroof. I haven't been able to pinpoint it, but it drives me nuts. The other noise comes from the back doors area, or maybe the pillars. It happens on both sides, but mostly on the drivers side, and it only happens when the car goes over certain bumps, or when I take a curve a certain way. It almost sounds like a cracking noise. I've heard of glove compartment rattles, but that doesn't seem to happen with my car.
View 87 RepliesI had a persistent soft rattle that sounded like it was coming from the dash area. Looked there, pulled the glove box off, taped a wire, and padded where the glove box meets the dash board, padded my right hand mud flap, and padded the glove box door upper RH corner, all to no good effect. Then just a few days ago I pushed the shotgun seat forward and reclined the seat back all the way.
The next day I looked under the seat. There are three yellow plastic electrical connectors that control the airbag and sensor. They are surprisingly rickety by design. Double side taping a 1.5 thick inch soft foam pad on top of the connectors, between them and the underside of the seat did the trick. I LOVE conquering rattles.
I think that one of them is coming from the passenger door. It is more of a clicking sound kind of, than a rattle. Maybe as if the door panel isn't tightly attached so it moves back and forth a little and clicks.
The other rattle is from the cupholder area.
I took this car to my dealer and they fixed another rattle from the passenger door (claimed it was a screw in the speaker that had fallen out?), but it was replaced by this new clicking rattle. They also claimed they did something to the cupholder to fix it, but it didn't work.
My question is, how the door panels are attached to the car? I was thinking that if it is attached by a few screws I will try tightening those up myself before I go back to the dealer. It would be great if it was just attached too loosely and I could fix it myself.
After driving our 2013 Passat for 215 miles, we noticed that there was a rattling noise coming from the left front wheel area but only at slow speeds (under 10 mph). The noise disappeared at higher speeds. Today, we took the car to the dealership but they could not find anything wrong.
View 4 RepliesI just got some gas in my car today. I didn't fill up. I put in $25 worth which wasn't enough to come close to filling the tank. After getting gas and driving away I noticed that there was a very strong smell of fuel in my car. It made me feel extremely nauseous and sick just from the 5-10 minute drive home. I noticed the smell is also noticeable in my trunk when I opened it to take my groceries out.
When I picked up the gas pump to put it in the hole to fill up the tank there was some residual gas in the pump from the person before me that spilled out into the gas hole area and dripped down the side of my car but I'm not sure why that would cause a fuel smell inside the cabin and the trunk. Would it??
What the problem might be? As I said this is the first time it's happened in my car (it's a 2013 with just over 20,000 km on it) and I didn't even fill the tank so I don't believe it's possible for overfilling to be the issue here.
Have experienced really annoying buzzing when listening to the stereo when it's noticeably cold out? I know the car is cold ( it's been below zero in MN for most of the week) but if there is remotely any bass, I hear this faint buzzing from the doors that is driving me insane, I hope I'm not the only one? Had the car for a month and aside from that it's been great.

Left all car windows open 24 hours and trunk 6 hours,gas smell subsided 90%
While coming back from mall, while driving lowered both rear windows to maximum...as I was driving @ 50 MPH..Extremely annoying sound started coming from back windows area....it was unbearable annoying...so closed the windows and sound was gone.
Checked oil and it was full. What is this UFO sound with rear windows down.
2014 Elantra GT SE tech package. This issue is intermittent so I am reluctant to take it to the dealer as they will just say there is nothing wrong if they cannot replicate the issue.
The problem I have is the ventilation inside the car stops blowing air randomly. I could be driving for 1/2 hour, 1 hour, 3 hours, and all of the sudden the amount of air blowing out of the vents drops down to almost nothing. I can still hear the fan blowing away at what sounds like full power, but air is just barely trickling out of the vents. Really sucks on hot days! This is going to be a bigger issue once winter comes.
I will have had my car 2 years in March so this is the 2nd winter. This happened last winter and now just happened again. This year has been pretty warm actually so this is the first cold snap. I don't have recirculate on so that's not an issue. I don't get a lot of snow or anything in the car either but I notice on some cold nights in the morning I have frost inside the windows, especially the windshield. I thought this morning when I left ( -18 C ) and hit a small pothole that it almost sounded like the windshield creaked.
The other thing is noisy valves / lifters. When it's cold and I first start the car my engine sounds kind of like a diesel or at least the vales seem noisy. I only have 23,000km and have religiously changed the oil every 5,000 km.
I got my 14 Elantra GT 3 months ago.
If I am driving with all the windows and roof opened, I can feel the engine heat coming in to the car from the pedal area. I took it to the dealer and they said it's normal.
Sunroof developing rattles? It is more noticeable with the sunroof open. Have had the car 9 months and it has just started rattling on any bumps- very annoying.
View 16 RepliesOK, so I have a 2009 Elantra and have noticed that in the last 2 weeks, there is a severe rattle/clunk when I hit bumps that sounds like it is coming from the back right tire. At times it also sounds like it is coming from the seats. I just can't tell. It has been to 3 different dealers. One said they heard it and suggested it was a loose spoiler....tightened and no change. The dealer I bought it from claims they hear nothing (it is SO noisy!). I went to a dealer today who drove with me and said it may be a defect with struts, etc. They definitely heard it.
So I ask new Elantra owners..could it just be that the Elantra is noisy over bumps? Sounds like my shocks are gone. Super loud when going over bumps. My car is only 6 months old.
