I know this has been talked about. Knocking in rear right area, when driving over bumps and holes.
Read its sway and struts. As of 2010 Hyundai had no recall or solution to issue.
Will this correct the noise. When I push the rear up and down I get no noise.

I just purchased a 2009 Hyundai Elantra a few months ago.. I have been hearing a rattling/ clunking noise around the rear glass area. I brought it to a local dealership and they thought that it was the bracket for the trunk lid rods. They replaced the bracket and the noise is still there..
View 3 RepliesI would describe the noise as a low rattle/knocking when i hit bumps(or the second after). i thought it might be my spare tire knocking around in its trunk well under the carpet. I actually removed it and drove around to check, but it was not the issue. I had a mechanic look at wheels/suspension because of this noise, he told me the rear passenger side sway bar link needed to be replaced. I personally ended up doing the work and replaced the right and left rear sway bar links however the noise persists.
while the rear was jacked up i tried wobbling the wheels with my hands to check for play but found nothing in any direction. The mechanic seemed to think everything else looked ok.
I only notice it at low speeds like driving around a neighborhood. The big bumps it either isnt happening or the noise is drowned out by the general sound of hitting larger bumps. But over mildly bump sections such as a bad asphalt patch chop it can be very noticeable.
Its not very consistent, its hard to predict when ill hear it and its almost like its during when my suspension settles after hitting the bump that its heard.
I have a 2009 Toyota Camry. I started hearing this knocking noise(really loud pop) from the rear. I have read the TSB's about a knocking noise coming from the "Spring Bumper" from the strut assembly and they are all facing the correct way. And there was also a TSB for a knocking noise from the "Roof Structure." The dampening bonds come apart and makes a knocking noise. I've replaced a strut mount in the right rear and that did not fix the problem.
View 4 RepliesI drive a 2012 SE V6 with 1600 km in it. Literally brand new car, two days ago I noticed a faint knock when driving normally over medium sized bumps in the road. Sound seems like it is coming from the front drivers side. It's not my first time around the block and wonder if it's suspension related or steering related. It's going to the dealer tomorrow...
View 14 RepliesI own 2001 2.0 Golf (first car) and lately as I drive I constantly hear this noise, it's very obnoxious, sounds like a washing machine going with a hard object in it. It's not continuous, but it doesn't happen rarely. Whenever I go over any bump, the slightest crack etc. I'm guessing it has something to do with the suspension? I'm not really sure since I'm still learning about cars...

On my way back from the dealer I noticed a knocking noise coming from the lower rear area of the car which is more noticeable when going over bumps. Its intermittent. Thinking something got messed up when they were doing the alignment? What this might be?
View 2 RepliesSo i just had installed a brand new set of bilsetin pss9. Going over bumps or pot holes at a slow speed, i get loud clunking out the back. Did not have this prior to the coilovers. Its dropped almost 3/4 of the thread. What this is? Also the shop that installed them, had put them in with out the rear upper spring plate, is that a standard install on these?

View 1 RepliesI just bought a 09 Corolla S a month ago. In the last few days I've been hearing a popping/knocking noise while I'm driving. It sounds like it is coming from one of the wheels but which one. It usually happens once I decelerate or driving at low speeds. If I brake the noise will stop. The rhythm of the noise doesn't seem to be consistent with speed I'm driving. It happens more often on bumpy roads but it still happens on smooth roads. I'm wondering what are the possible problems that are could cause this?
I don't know if this would relate to the sounds I mentioned but when I bought this car it had brake problems. It would grind pretty loud. The dealership ended up replacing new rear drums. So when I drove it home everything sounded good for about a week. The grinding noise came back and after I sprayed some brake cleaner it went away for a few days. I'm assuming thats what the dealership did to hide the noise. I went ahead and changed the front pads and that worked for a week or so...but the grinding noise is back. I was about to change my rotors this weekend when the popping/knocking sound I mentioned above started happening.
I purchased a 2010 Escape Hybrid last October. Within a month it would occasionally make knocking noises from the speaker area above the right side (passenger) rear wheel well. It took several visits to the dealer before this noise would "perform" for them. They thought it was the amplifier, so they disconnected the amplifier...it still did it. So they replaced the amplifier ... it still did it, but it changed pitch and frequency.
I have made videos of it for them since it is so erratic it is hard to get it to do it for them. It will go days, weeks or even months without doing it, and then do it consistently for days and weeks. It seems to do it most when the weather is around 40-60 degrees and often when it is damp ... although this is not always the case. It will do it after you turn the car off for up to 30 seconds ... It will do it when you first start the car before you move.
By the way ... my son in law swears it is the little circular thing in the center of a speaker that vibrates back and forth with sound that is "popping". I suggested that to the dealer and they said that would be really surprising ... I told them that whatever it is its going to be surprising!
I have a 2011 Elantra GLS automatic and have experienced rear end hop when hitting bumps, potholes, manhole covers, etc. It is quite disturbing to feel the read end slide sideways especially at highway speeds. Today I noticed similar feeling when I drove on snow covered roads for first time. I took it in to dealer who agreed it was a concern when he drove it, but couldn't find anything out of spec.

Now Is it anything I should worry about? Car has 72000 on it. Always used synthetic Mobil 1 5w 30.
This is on a completely cold start up, 30 degrees outside. Only makes the noise until car warms up. Anything I can do to prevent this? Or is it not something to worry about? Should I just let the car warm up a little before I drive it?

Experienced an occasional (not always) rattle in the passenger rear area of the 2012 Elantra GLS. I have a video on YouTube of this specific rattle that I will post eventually, it says i have to wait a few days until I can post links on here.
View 22 RepliesExperience with rattling coming from the rear/trunk area. My 2013 1500km new limited with Nav have developed a very bad rattle coming from the back.
I have tried removing the rear deck and no luck, There are now nothing in the trunk except for my spare tire kit. the rattle gets louder when I fold down the rear seat. The rattle seems worse and more frequent when the car is between 10 to 60 km/s...
Its been awhile since I've posted, but this is annoying me! Everytime I drive over a small imperfection on the road, I hear this "rattle" or "small thunk" that sounds like either plastic panels in the rear, or maybe the rear suspension.
I ensured the rear seats were locked in place, I even removed that flimsy rear deck, and even drove with my seats down, and I still hear the sound.
I park on some bumpy terrain at my house, and sometimes I'll go over speed bumps maybe a little too fast, but not really fast.
Its just a sound that's never been there before, and I can't hear it unless I have the music off. Its not overly loud, but that "rattle" or "thunk" just makes me this car feel not so "new and refined" anymore.
I had a 12" sub installed in my trunk & was getting a horrendous rattle from the rear deck area. My first instinct was to put Dynamat everywhere but after some googling i ended up filling the underside of the rear deck area with trashbags!! I pushed 5 of them through the opening where you access the 3rd brake light & it now it sounds perfect. I uploaded a video to youtube with a sound test.....
View 6 RepliesCar has 170k kilometers , just over 100k miles on it; GL model so no sport suspension. Noise occurs going over small bumps.
Stabilizer links are the only front ends parts that were changed so far(12 months ago). Can't feel any play in tierods or ball joints, even the struts don't show signs of leakage and bounce test seems to show they are still okay.
Noise appears to come from front of car ; but I hate guessing and throwing money away. Fished a few large chunks of gravel trapped in subframe cross member around steering rack; no change.
OK, so I have a 2009 Elantra and have noticed that in the last 2 weeks, there is a severe rattle/clunk when I hit bumps that sounds like it is coming from the back right tire. At times it also sounds like it is coming from the seats. I just can't tell. It has been to 3 different dealers. One said they heard it and suggested it was a loose spoiler....tightened and no change. The dealer I bought it from claims they hear nothing (it is SO noisy!). I went to a dealer today who drove with me and said it may be a defect with struts, etc. They definitely heard it.
So I ask new Elantra owners..could it just be that the Elantra is noisy over bumps? Sounds like my shocks are gone. Super loud when going over bumps. My car is only 6 months old.
My car's rear end is quite unstable on bumps.If the left wheel goes over the bump the rear end sways left and if the left wheel goes over bump,rear end sways left. So far I've replaced left wheel bearing as it had a little play, both trailing arm bushings it had just a minor cut but had it replaced anyway.
Got the car aligned and it was found within spec. I only have doubt on knuckle bushing through which trailing arm is bolted.The catch is i would have to order whole knuckle to replace that bush.
So I know the 2013 GS (or many GS in general) have had complaints of squeaks and rattles. My GS has a couple but are very minor and only occasional.
I do have one noise that seems unusual though. When I am driving and drive over moderate bumps in the road, I hear a muffled clunk or thunk type of noise only from the rear passenger area and never anywhere else.
My car is a stock CPO 2013 F sport and not lowered or anything. Stock rims and tires. The shock does not seem to be leaking.
The noise happens regardless of if I am in regular or sport+ modes. Was going to mention it to the dealer at my next oil change and door trim replacement appointment I need to make Ina couple months.
