I have a 2013 Elantra GLS. Several times in the middle of the night the alarm that sounds when the door is locked just starts chirping randomly. Why that is?
View 10 RepliesSo far three times this week the factory alarm went off in the middle of the night. This happened before and the problem just went away. I have pulled the fuse for the horn so I can at least get some sleep.
How to troubleshoot this? Bringing it to the deal will be useless since I can't duplicate the problem.
This is an 08 Santa Fe limited edition.
2012 Hyundai Elantra. My alarm goes off randomly. About 3-4 times a day. Is there an easy way to shut off the sound so it will never go off? Naturally, I don't want to lose any functionality of the remote/smart key or the push button start. Just to eliminate the beeps.

Now the trunk wouldn't open with my key fob, or the spare. So I thought maybe a shopping bag handle got in the way. On the way home from the store, the trunk open light popped on randomly. Trunk wasn't open. Okay, that's odd...
Now the alarm has been going off randomly. 3 times in the past 2 hours, I'm wondering if it's a massive electrical problem waiting to happen.
Picked up my brand new elantra last week, however alarm was not working properly. It arms ok (i.e., horn chirps after two clicks, lights flash etc)...but when we tried to test the alarm (as part of my delivery inspection), nothing happened. We tried opening door without key, opening from a half open shutter etc.
Dealer promised to resolve issue, they've been good so far, but it's worrying me a bit, brand new car, I shouldn't have to think of these issues and take my car and leave it in the dealer garage for a few days for them to diagnose this.

A couple times now the factory alarm will start going off by for no reason. This was confirmed by my neighbor, who was sitting outside when it started going off the last time with nobody around it. Also, when this happens, the alarm button the on key fob will not stop the alarm, only unlocking the car will stop it.
Also, after this happens, I can no longer set the alarm (pressing the lock button twice and hearing the car honk once) for usually at least a few hours if not a day. what happens is that i press the lock button and you hear the doors lock but if you keep hitting the lock button, the doors just keep locking, the car never honks.
The trunk of my 2013 Elantra GLS pops open randomly when the car is parked, unoccupied, and I am well away from it. This happens about once every week or ten days. Last night it popped open during a heavy rain and the trunk was soaked. I can not trust the trunk as a safe place for anything of value. I suspected at first that the remote was doing this by somehow getting squeezed in my pants pocket, but I can not cause it to replicate this by pressing on the pants pocket or squeezing the remote against the key or a pocket comb or such. I have considered abandoning the remote but with no trunk key that is very inconvenient.
View 95 RepliesWe decided to take a chance on Hyundai (never owned one before) and get an Elantra. Anyway, the car has 2,000 miles on it. My husband was in stop and go traffic today on the interstate and said the car just randomly turned itself off, out of nowhere. He started it back up and had no problems after that, but I am very concerned. It makes me question the reliability of the car to be honest. We've only had it 6 weeks! I am wondering about whether to take it immediately to the dealership or wait to see if it happens again. I don't want my husband going down a hill or something and the car randomly shuts off, so I guess safety is an issue. What would you do?

View 6 RepliesI got my oil changed and tires balanced Saturday at the local shop around the corner. Now my alarm goes off randomly and when I use the clicker thing to lock the car, the horn doesn't make the beep sound it used to on the the second click. It never did this prior to having the oil changed, but how could that have anything to do with the alarm? I need to figure out how to make it stop, it's waking me (and my neighbors) up at night, and I have to keep leaving where ever I am to go out and see if the dang thing is going off again, which it is about half the time.
View 2 RepliesRecently I took my car in for an oil change, & after that when I lock my car it doesn't always make the beep noise to let me know the alarm system is armed.
A little while after that, my alarm started to go off randomly. This happens at random times, all my doors are closed and we even took the car in to get checked(they checked the wires or something I believe because they thought it had to do with my aftermarket remote start)
I've read somewhere about people saying it could have to do with my hood switches? But truth be told I'm not very good with cars.
So my factory car alarm has started going off by itself ; had to unhook horn wiring.
Bad hood switch issues are talked about ; seemed a little flaky when checked with meter so I changed it out, only $15. Hood pad already was made higher as a first try at fixing problem.
Still having alarm tripping sometimes. I read somewhere about the door lock actuators having a contact that tells alarm system when they are locked.
So I may have a faulty power lock assembly on one of the four doors. I have tried to open them when locked but they don't open. How to I tell which lock switch is bad , they are all pricy but the drivers rear is cheaper.
We moved to a new home two months ago.My 2009 elantra alarm randomly goes off only between 9:30pm and 8:30 am and only when in my garage or driveway. Dealer "adjusted hood sensor" and it still activates. Seems the issue must be in my garage as didn't happen prior to moving and happens no where else. I disconnected the garage remote wireless sensor tonight to see if that could be culprit.
View 8 RepliesI'm having a strange problem with my 2011 Elantra. Twice this month, I've gotten up in the morning and the hazard lights are on. The first time, I thought it was the parking lights and I'd left the door ajar but I went out and checked all entry points and everything was secure, so I checked interior lights and everything was off so I started the car, all good and when I turned it off, the lights went out but an hour later when I went out to leave for work, car barely started.
Since that time, I've paid attention to the lights. They are always off when I leave the car. This morning, lights are on again. Nothing will turn them off except for starting the car. I'm afraid that the repetitive drain on my battery will soon kill it.
My 2010 Toyota Sienna alarm keeps going off randomly...there is no method to the madness. It happens after it's been running or not. It happens at all hours of the day and night. It can happen four times in a row and then not for days on end. It's literally driving me insane. I can stop it by pressing the unlock button on the remote. But it will often -- though not always -- do it a few more times after that. So, I open all the doors/trunk remotely and that usually puts an end to it for that period...but not always. But it always happens again...whether it's the next day or seven days later. The mechanic says they need to keep the car and hear/see it happen...but that means leaving my car with them for days on end, which I simply can't afford to do.
View 2 RepliesMy Prius alarm goes off with no reason day and night. I did check everything like door and hatch back, they are properly closed and nothing could have caused the alarm to go off. I brought my car for checking but what the mechanic can do is just set the horn off, they couldn't find the cause.
View 12 RepliesMy passat has an alarm that will begin chirping every two or three minutes usually in the middle of the night and parked under my bedroom. I unlock doors with keyless remote and the doors will relock themselves after about a minute sometimes immediately. The only way to get this chirping to stop is to open the door of the car, sets off alarm and then lock system with the key. If I try to open the windows with the key the windows will only go down a inch or so and the locks will engage.
This will also happen when I do not lock the vehicle and set the alarm. I am willing to disengage the chirping entirely as I am not an alarm fan, especially now at 3AM resetting my car alarm. Typically this happens after the vehicle has been parked for 4-5 hours. If this system is pneumatic could there be a leak?

2014 Elantra GT SE tech package. This issue is intermittent so I am reluctant to take it to the dealer as they will just say there is nothing wrong if they cannot replicate the issue.
The problem I have is the ventilation inside the car stops blowing air randomly. I could be driving for 1/2 hour, 1 hour, 3 hours, and all of the sudden the amount of air blowing out of the vents drops down to almost nothing. I can still hear the fan blowing away at what sounds like full power, but air is just barely trickling out of the vents. Really sucks on hot days! This is going to be a bigger issue once winter comes.
My 2003 Camry LE is normally parked in our garage in Southern California so we have no problems. We have gone a few times to Utah, Arizona and other areas in So. Calif when it was very cold and had our alarm go off in the middle of the night. We turn it off and then it keep going off until we start driving it. Dealer doesn't want to disconnect alarm.
View 1 RepliesI have a GLS 2011 and since wednesday my car alarm seems to be working one out of five time. The doors locks but no horn chime and no corner lights flashing.
Checked all the doors and the hood and everything's closed. Also checked with my backup remote and nothing.
I have read all the answers about the alarm going off at random times, mine just started tonight and dealership is closed. Is there anything that I can do to keep it from going off and waking the neighborhood?
