I have 1,600 miles on my elantra and this sound just started. On initial starting, when the engine is cold, there's this loud low pitch then high pitch sound. It only lasts for 1.5 seconds but it's loud. What could it be?
View 3 RepliesMy girlfriend has a 2001 Ford Escape 3L, 6cyl. When accelerating there is a loud high pitch whistle/whirling sound. The sound varies with the amount of throttle you give it. More throttle = louder whine. Doesn't seem to do it when idling or coasting. What that could be? I'm about to remove the belt and take a look at the drive belt tensioner and other pulleys.
Just checked pulleys and tensioner and the tensioner seems fine, a/c pulley spins smooth and free no play, alternator spins smooth no play. The belt needs to be replaced. I wouldn't think this would cause such a load whistle under acceleration. I would expect it to do it all the time if it was the belt. I'm looking at the water pump pulley and belt too and they seem ok as well.
My wife's 2013 elantra is making s low pitched whistling sound when its in motion. Does it whether I'm coasting or accelerating. Kind of alarming considering the car is about 1 year old with 12k miles. Taking it to the dealer for a tire rotation and a oil change next week, I'll have them check it out then.
View 12 RepliesMy 2013 GX makes this noise when I step on the gas padel when the speed is 70 mph or higher. It is not very loud but noticeable, even with the radio on. I noticed this these past two days on highway. There is no such sound during local drive or speed below 70. It sounds like it came from the engine compartment, but I am not 100% sure. Is this normal? Could it be from the wheels or chassis? My truck only got 1800 miles after 2 months driving.

A few days later, just after I started it first thing in the morning, it began making a loud flapping noise (seemed to be coming from under the hood). It's been doing it every morning since. The dealership said they couldn't hear anything unusual (after keeping it overnight, then starting it up first thing the next morning).
View 1 RepliesI have the 1.8L engine with automatic transmission and when I start my car, it has a loud grinding sound that lasts about 3-5 seconds. The Initial rpm after you start the car also idles around 1800-2200 rpm for almost 10 seconds before it goes back to 1000rpm.
The high idling also stops if you shift it into Drive (D) or Reverse (R) but in Neutral (N) it will jump back up to the high idle.
This started occuring november of last year. At first I took it to dealership but they could not diagnose it because they never heard the sound. It ONLY happened when it was cold below 30 F, but recently it has been becoming MORE and MORE frequent and now almost happens everytime I start the car. But it won't happen if the outdoor temperature is above 60 degrees or if I start the car shortly after I shut the engine off (like a 2-3 hour break in between).
I thought it might be a loose flywheel, bad torque convertor, or a faulty electronic throttle control system. I do NOT think it is the starter because it starts everytime even on the coldest of days just that the grinding sound is annoying.
I went to go start my LS460... put the heat on, its fine.. when I turn the heat up on high I get this annoying high pitched sound. It has to do with the heat system because when I turn it off it goes away... I'm scared to keep the car running...
View 10 RepliesI have a 06 accent sedan and I have been having some issues with the back brakes that were just replaced prior to the motor vehicle being done the end of June. I had the brakes replaced and everything was working fine up until the middle of last week; now the brakes in the back are squealing like the warning plates are rubbing together again (loud high pitch squealing) what could be causing this...I took it back to where I had the brakes replaced and they did a check and said that it did not look like anything was wrong and they asked me when my front brakes were replaced, I told him they were replaced last August when I have a issues with a caliper freezing up and had to replace everything in the front (brakes, caliper etc). So long story short he said to keep driving and see if you can tell if the squealing is coming from the front or the back and come back when its happening or if you can determine which one it is..
View 13 RepliesEvery morning for the last 3 days I've gone to go warm up my car and each time i turn on the car only from a cold start up i hear this loud high pitch noise from the motor. If i turn the car off and restart it. It goes away and the car is at perfect idle. what is this and do i have some serious problems?
Is this true? If it's only on a cold start up, and then it goes away during normal driving, you have no need to fear....that's the Secondary Air Injection Pump that turns on during cold starts, and the plastic hose just needs to be replaced.. If so where is it located so i can replace this hose.
Yesterday my truck started making a loud high pitch squeal at idle. Messing with it this morning I found when I turn the a/c on it quits. Then it will do it for a second at startup and quit. If the a/c system is turned off it comes back. I thought exhaust leak until I found the a/c link.
View 9 RepliesMy girls family has had an 08 elantra 2.0 new since 2008 and I've been doing the work. I recently did the timing belt ( July) with beck arnley oem parts. 65000 miles. I replaced belt, idler, and tensioner.
Right after I did it there was a mild hum at idle. It somewhat did this before the belt so I assumed it was just the new belt in plus the very mild hum it already had.
Recently it is humming very loud and high Pitched. It gets louder with higher rpm. If I take the cover of and move the needle on the tensioner while it's running it quiets down a little but it's an auto tensioner and doesn't stay right where it needs to be AND even when it is at the ideal spot it still hums.
When the car is cold & first started, the high pitch noise by the fuel injectors is the loudest. When it warms up the noise is reduced quit a bit.
I thought maybe the fuel injector O-rings are bad, but the car idles and runs fine ( no error codes). Maybe the intake manifold gasket, but the car idles and runs fine. It is a weird noise.
I bought a 1995 k2500 sheyenne. There is a rather loud high pitch grinding/ squeaking noise emitting from what I would say the rear right of the truck. I have completely replaced the brake shoes and new pins and springs. No luck. What I can say is:
1. It hardly gets any louder as I speed up.
2. Still screams when in neutral, as long as the truck is rolling.
3. Rear differential has plenty of fresh fluid when I bought it.
4. If i hit a good size bump, it will run quiet for about 15 seconds.
So i have a '06 2.0t 6spdman passat. I started getting this high pitch sound (like a boost leak) when under hard acceleration from second gear and up. I went to the dealer today and they replaced my PCV system, and told me that was the noise i was hearing. Pulled out of the dealer like half a block and same thing happened. Then the tech went with me heard the noise, went back put it on a lift. And proceeded to just rev the engine. They say its my Intake system, yet I have had it on the car for 2 and a half years. Could it possibly be the DV???

View 13 RepliesI have a 2013 Prius c #2. At 62 mph and faster there is a high pitch sound that gets louder the faster it goes. I have asked two other Prius c owner's and they don't hear it. You will need to roll up the windows and turn the radio off to hear this.
View 13 RepliesEarly this week my car started making a loud knocking/rubbing sound (Kind of in between when your brakes are ground down to the rotor and a knocking pattern).
FIRST, it started only when I turned slightly left or left.... NOW, it's doing it as I go straight and when I turn to the right as well... oddly enough it's not as bad when going left anymore...
What this could be?? And if it's an easy DIY fix..... (maybe a link on how) and how much the part(s) might be?? I've taken video (for sound as I drive)...but not sure if I can upload it (size limit).
It's been cold, but I've been driving. When I park and power down, I'm hearing a high-pitch sound...like a fàn...it lasts about 10 seconds.
View 10 RepliesWhen I test drive the PIP, I kept hearing a high frequency pitch noise whenever the car was accelerating. It almost sounds like when you lightly touch the trigger on a cordless drill. Sales guy and my wife couldn't hear it, but I do have extremely sensitive hearing.
A quick search didn't reveal anything, so I am wondering if this is a problem, or maybe part of the pedestrian warning system (although it happens at higher speeds as well).
My 2004 V8 Toureg has around 7K miles on it. The brakes are squeaking at a very high pitch. The same squeaky sound a bus makes when it stops. My dealership told me it is due to me not hitting my brakes hard enough. I have hit my brakes hard many times as of late and the squeaking continues loudly as folks will turn their heads. The dealership told me it is due to brake dust accumulation which if I wash the car they still squeak. Dealership also told me the VW regional field rep has told them that to rough up the brake pads which is a temporary fix. Dealership also stated if the brakes were replaced the brakes would start squeaking in a matter of a few months because this is how German cars behave. Not sure where to take this matter.
My other problems as of late are a bad power steering pump(replaced), bad suspension controller arms(new parts are ordered-kept hearing a popping sound when turning the tires and braking and grinding noise from the suspension), a bad keyless access module(replaced), steering column not centered(re-centered), wind noise from the rack ontop (basically to fix and probably only temporarily, unlocked them and then moved them forward a bit and then back to their original location- may have been loose as no more wind reverberation inside the car now), and rubbing from my driver side wiper. The brakes are the real thorn in my side at the moment due to other drivers hearing the noise while driving as they turn their heads. Very embarrassing especially coming from a new car!!
