I was going to change the fuel filter on my truck yesterday, but couldn't figure out how the guard comes off. It has a bolt but it also has a rivet in it and looks like its all one piece so Id have to drill the rivet to remove. I tried to just spin the housing off.

View 14 RepliesNoticed change in power after changing the fuel filters on 6.7 .... Seems like it has a fuel restriction at times maybe even air somewhere in the line. Thought I felt the truck hesitate after hitting the gas and Cavitating when I hit the gas petal. Both new filters are motorcraft parts. I did follow the procedure after installing filters by turning the key on 6 times waiting 30 seconds in between. Could it be a problem with the fuel pump. I should say I didn't have this until I changed the primary filter.
View 9 RepliesI changed the fuel filters today and saw a couple of small pieces of what looked like aluminum or aluminum foil in the bottom. Nothing in the filter itself it still looked good. I will try to post pictures later but I'm not sure it will show up. I don't recall seeing anything the first filter change and this is the second. Is this normal?
View 2 RepliesOK what is the trick to changing the oil filter on the 6.7 without making a mess. My last truck, which was another brand, if I would let the truck sit for a couple of hours, I could get the filter loose, put a zip lock bag around the filter, & remove the filter without any drips. With the 6.7, even if I let the truck sit overnite, it seems like the oil doesn't drain from above the filter, & as soon as it comes loose my hand gets a bath. Any tricks to changing the oil filter.

I have a very slow fuel drip off the housing for the fuel filter on the engine. Can't see where it's coming from. It started sometime after I changed the filter a couple of months ago.

View 12 RepliesWell I finally had time to change out my composite oil pan to the metal one. Nothing was wrong with the old one but Ive seen the composite pans get hit by a rock and crack so I decide to get the metal one. It didnt take long once I had the oil drained and its very easy to get to. Once i had the old pan off I did find two piece of sludge stuck to the oil pickup screen, they had a sliver of aluminum in them. My oil reports have been coming back with high aluminum content so I am not really sure what to think being my motor had 33k miles on it now.
I also changed out the fuel filter and when I dropped the frame mounted filter I found about a teaspoon of rust in it. I'm not one to run my truck down to E but I admit I did so twice since the last filter change. Since I found the fuel filter kit for 60 buck(ford dealer wanted $140) I think I will move my fuel filter changes to 10k miles instead of 15k. Last but not least I also added SPE 6.7 Full Lock Diff Kit which allows the locked rear end to stay engaged past 20 mph. It was a simple 10 min installation with just a few wires and easy directions to follow

While driving from SD to Chicago today 2 warnings popped up at the same time saying to change the oil and fuel filters. Had both done 2500 miles ago. Am I right that the Dealer just didn't reset these? I thought these were measured by miles and driving habits.

View 5 RepliesWhile I was changing the oil yesterday, I also changed the fuel filters. The primary filter had some debris that was confirmed by a magnet to be metal. I have seen a little bit of this all three times I have changed the filters. The filter itself is very clean, but there remains a small amount of metal slightly more coarse than filings.
I don't really have any concerns that it could be coming from the HPFP because that is after the secondary filter and would not be returned to the tank. Also anything from the HPFP would have fouled several injectors by now. I don't even think there is any iron in the pump.
I guess it could be useful to put a magnet in the water separator reservoir, but I don't even know what good that would do since the debris is large enough that it is being caught by the filter and of course the secondary filter is even less microns. It would just be nice to know where in the world this stuff comes from.
Changed my filters and this was in the bottom of the filter housing. I looked on the pleats and down in the center didn't find anything. Went to two Ford diesel techs one said is was the hpfp and should do the the whole fuel system. The other said if the hpfp was coming apart the shaving would not be in the bottom of bowl and to check the filter again in 5k miles. No check engine light, drives great, no other problems.
View 14 RepliesReplaced both fuel filters same as usual. Cranked right up and I let her run while I put up the tools and look for leaks. Notice it started running rough, so I jumped in and started to back out of carport and it went dead. Ran battery down and it won't hit a lick. Replacement (racor) filter same as last few changes. Running just fine before change so it has to be something simple, but what?

View 14 RepliesI'm dripping fuel on top of the engine at the fuel filter . Where the line ties into the filter canister , there is a small plate that's attached with small Allen screws its dripping between this plate and the canister .... I assume there is a gasket/oring that is causing it ...... What is the part number or correct description so I can go to ford dealer and get one.
2007 Ford 4X4. 6.0 diesel
This past week my wife and I took a short trip and returned on a gravel road. I went to start my truck the next morning and there was a puddle of diesel fuel on the driveway. When I looked under it, I noticed that the tip of the fuel filter housing is gone and is leaking slowly from there. I called the dealer and they would not fix it on warranty, the truck has 20k on it. The service man said he would not turn this into ford. I've had the similar problems with this particular dealer. It's obvious that a protective cover is needed for this. I kept the part and am thinking of sending it to ford.

View 4 RepliesWent and changed my fuel filters today... Primed the truck 6 times. Started it. Ran great, then got a low fuel pressure and reduced power notification. Turned it off. tried priming it 10 more times, no start, tried 15 more times. No start. Took off the outlet on the secondary filter, solid flow. Took off the return on the L/H fuel rail, pinched the line and put a hose on the rail... Once again solid flow. I can hear air somewhere under the hood but I don't know where... Driving the 7.3 to work tomorrow but this is driving me up the wall.

All was tight and no leaks. Even ran the motor the customary few minutes and then went on an errand to lowes. So drove it a few miles. All good.
So just outside of town about 10 miles, third gear, up hill plenty of boost the inlet line on the filter let loose.
Sorta looked like I was driving on wet roads except I had all this smoke coming from the hood of the truck.
Pull over quickly so didn't loose much. That darn yellow quick connect had somehow worked itself loose.
Simple reconnect, check three times, wipe as much stuff up as I could and on my way again.
Not fun when trailer is in tow. So I suppose I lost a quart or two at most but enough to do some undercoating anyway.
Check those connections often.
