Ford A/C :: 2004 - Hissing Under Dash / No Cool Air

Oct 16, 2011

I have a 2004 Eddie Bauer Expedition. We noticed a few weeks ago that the A/C was not cooling like it used to, and now it does not cool at all. No cold air from either the front vents or the rear system.

Tonight it is 65 degrees ambient and the clutch is cycling about every 8 seconds. Every time it cycles I hear a hissing/rushing water sound under the passenger-side dashboard.

Is there's anything that I can check myself, or if I need to take it to a mechanic. I can do basic part replacement but am not qualified enough to take apart a charged system.

Prius (2004-09) :: Dash Lights On With Repeated Hissing Noise

After searching for the Prius that I wanted, I settled on a 2008 Prius Touring with 171xxx miles. The car was at a sales lot 300 miles away. After a few phone calls pertaining to the Prius, I arranged to meet the lot owner roughly 1/2 way in between for the purchase. We met. Owner said that several dash lights came on as they were driving to meet me. (Yes, I believe him.) He talked with his mechanic, and was told that the problem was most likely the ABS control module (p/n 44510-47050). Owner agreed to shipping me a good used ABS module and discounted the vehicle a bit. I drove it home.

The brake, (!), ABS, and VSC lights are "on"when the car is in the "ready" mode. The parking brake is not on. When I walk up to the car (with SKS fob in my pocket) and open the door, I hear a noise that sounds like water running through an outside faucet that's only partially opened. For identification purpose, I will refer to this noise as a "hissing" noise. When in "ready" mode , the ABS system "cycles", with about 4 seconds hissing, then about 10 seconds not hissing, repeated over and over.

In ready mode (under the hood), the inverter pump is humming away just fine, and the coolant can be seen flowing in it's reservoir. My biggest question is that I have read about others with the unwanted dash lights, but not any with this hissing noise. Does the ABS module replacement sound like it will most likely cure the problem?

And btw, after disconnecting both batteries and waiting for the proper time period, is it really necessary to use the insulated gloves? Years ago, I used Toyota repair manuals, and after receiving the Haynes manual, I'm a bit disappointed.

Prius (2004-09) :: AC Stops Blowing Cool Air / Dash Lights Up With Numerous Warning Lights

I had just picked my kid up from school, as I turn out of the parking lot my A/C stops blowing cool air, I check the A/C screen and it still says it's set on High with temp at 68. However, it is blowing very low with warm air. Seconds later the dash lights up with numerous warning lights. I'm on the highway and I'm able to gather speed, but each time I do I hear the engine revving like crazy. We only live a few miles from the school so I am able to make it home. Once home, I turn off the car and turn it back on. The only warning lights displayed now are the red triangle and the yellow check engine light. I turn the car off, pop the hood, I check the belt and it was fine. I checked the oil and it seemed fine. I check the coolant overflow and it was empty.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Strange Air Hissing Noise From Dash?

I bought a 2003 F-150 Lariat, 4.8L 4x2 about a week ago. Everything worked great at first, now I have this hissing/air coming from the dash. It happens while the truck is on, no matter if parked, driving, etc.. Ac/heater on or off, noise is still there. I have not yet taken the dash apart to see if i can pinpoint this noise. To better explain it is almost as if the air or heat is on and really low.

Ford - Focus :: 2010 - Rhythmic Hiss Coming From Dash When AC On And Does Not Cool The Air

Car is approaching 100,000 miles. While driving today I noticed a rhythmic hiss coming from the dash when the AC ran. No temperature difference between AC and vent after a little while. Is there anything I can look for before I take it into the shop? I will take it in and have them put die in to find potential leak before we start with the more expensive repairs, but would like to save where I can.

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Slight Hissing Noise From Dash When Running A/C

I already have my suspicions, since my wife's GMC did the same exact thing a few months ago. I hear a slight hissing noise from my dash, when running my A/C. I took the system off AUTO, to see if it was caused by the automated venting system, but it kept doing it. I have noticed it the past week, and its becoming a little more pronounced. System still blows cold. It does seem that it takes the truck longer to get cool in the afternoons lately, but it might be due to it being so hot lately.

My wife's car did the same thing and blew cold air for a while....until the hissing became constant and very loud. Turned out, she had a leak from one of the hoses. Dealer replaced it, and find ever since. I'm thinking my system has likely developed a leak and has reduced system refrigerant pressure. Any other possibilities?

Ford A/C :: 2004 - Less Cool Air Blowing Out

2004 Foed Freestar, the A/C has started blowing less than cool air in the past sveveral days. I'm assuming its low on refrg. but how does one check by visual inspection? If it is low will a simple re-charge kit w/guage and super dupper leak sealant do the trick? I saw a kit at Advance Autoparts for manufactured by Interdynamics. It had a guage w/trigger release for can content and three 12oz. cans of R134a. Will this kind of kit work?

Ford Excursion :: 2004 - Hissing Sound When Stepped On Gas?

My 2004 excursion left me stranded in Louisiana this weekend and I had to drive a rental back to Austin today. Was running fine and I got up to come home on sat and the turbo would not engage. When I would step on the gas I could hear a loud hissing sound, the more I stepped on the gas the more of that sound I could hear. Truck would not accelerate at all and almost felt like it was going to come apart at 50 mph. The error code I got from auto zone was turbo issue. and it gave me possible reasons. I checked hoses to and from turbo all hooked up and seemed to be in working condition. There seemed to be some black soot along the top and back of the engine. It would idle fine, but trying to drive it was impossible. I left it at a Ford dealership in Lafayette and await the news. I have a powertrain warranty up to 113,000 miles I hope it covers repair.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 1998 - No Heat / Cool Air Blowing

I have a 1998 f150 4.6 that has a problem with the heating system. It's blowing out a little warm, but "far" from what it should be. ( on a scale from 1-10, I'd rate it about a 3) I am puzzled because I flushed the radiator, changed the thermostat, and there a no signs of heater core leaks inside, hose leaks on firewall, or radiator/water smell present. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I did notice the top radiator hose was hot, but not the bottom. I don't know what else to look for.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2006 - Hissing Type Noise From The A/C?

I have a 2006 screw with the 5.4 and I get a hissing type noise from the A/C. It cycles every 7 seconds and sounds like it's coming from the far passenger vent area. It sounds like it's recharging itself or something. I've taken it into the dealer and the first time they said it was the vacuum driven system then the second time they said it was the freon recharging itself. Is every 7 seconds a little to often? It seems to get louder the longer I drive. Needless to say after a four hour trip to the beach hearing this hissing every 7 seconds drives me crazy. It will hiss then stop for seven seconds then hiss again.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Rough Idle And Hissing Noise At 1800 RPM?

have been lurking the forum for the last several months ever since I bought my 2008 F150. I bought it used from a dealership and have had it at their shop no less than seven times since I bought it in March, all for the same things.

The first thing I noticed shortly after buying the truck was that after the truck warmed up it would idle rough. My chief complaint by far, I took the truck in to be looked at and this is when all the real fun began. Similarly I had intermittent power steering that I asked to have looked at.

I was told the fuel filter was completely clogged. They cleaned it and assured me all was well. They also bled the power steering system because apparently someone had changed the PS pump and not bled the system afterwards. I got into the truck to leave and it was idling no better than when I dropped it off. I complained again and was told that "this is just how this truck idles" and called BS. They offered to have the throttle body cleaned for me the next day to alleviate any remnants of rough idle.

Had the throttle body cleaned the next day and took the truck home. After about an hour or two I was still thoroughly dissatisfied with the idle and called back to complain. I forgot to mention that I bought my truck from a Chevrolet dealer who had just taken it in on trade about three days before I bought it. Because I complained they offered to send the truck to a Ford dealership for further diagnosis.

The Ford dealership found fouled plugs, a cracked intake manifold and the water pump and fan clutch both had excessive play. They said those would create a rocking sensation which could be misinterpreted as a rough idle. Over $2500 the Chevy dealership paid them and I was called to come pick up the truck.

I didn't even make it out of the parking lot because the truck was whining something fierce. I couldn't believe no one QC'd the vehicle and complained again. Next morning I am called and they said that the Ford dealership had put the intake manifold gasket in wrong and it had been corrected and I could come pick up the truck.

I go pick up the truck and note that not only is the idle still not right, but now the truck is making a hissing/squealing noise when the truck hits 1800/1900 RPM's. Its strange because its not really RPM specific as it is specific to the pedal position. Accelerating or decelerating causes it to go away but its there nonetheless. Whats worse is that in highway driving at 65 MPH, the pedal is in just the wrong position and it hisses constantly. This sound never goes away...and once its been heard its impossible to unhear.

I complain again and they send the truck back to the Ford dealership. At this point I'm dealing directly with the Director of Service because mine has become a high priority case. The Service Director drives with me, confirms my problem and takes the truck himself to Ford. He drives with their shop foreman and they too confirm the problem.

A week goes by and Ford tells him its wind noise. This is complete bullarky because it happens whether I'm going 20 or 65. He calls them on it and they keep the truck another couple days. They call back and say the truck has nothing mechanically wrong with it and that they are done. Service Director goes and picks up the truck and takes it to a second Ford dealership.

Three days go by and they call and claim Eureka! We've found the problem! Clogged catalytic converter causing air flow restrictions. They replace two converters and I go to pick up the truck. It runs like garbage. Further the sound is still there. Call Chevy, leave the truck and take their loaner back home. Next morning Ford's Foreman calls and basically tells me that there's nothing else wrong with my truck and that he even reprogrammed the PCM (which is why it runs to bad all the time now I guess) to get rid of the idle problems.

Long story short here's everything thats been done:

- Cleaned a clogged fuel filter
- Replaced fouled plugs
- Replaced the intake manifold and gaskets
- Replaced the fan belt
- Replaced the fan clutch
- Replaced the water pump
- Replaced two catalytic converters
- Cleaned the throttle body
- Bled the PS system
- Reprogrammed the PCM and transmission control module

After all of this I still have a hissing sound when I accelerate (video 1:
It seems the truck runs worse once its warmed up and even worse once the AC is turned on. I'm sure he programmed the PCM wrong and thats what is causing the truck to run rough.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Hissing Noise Like Drip Is Hitting Something Hot When Shut The Door

When I have the A/C running in my truck it idles at like 900 RPM's if not 950 RPM's. It also doesn't appear to sweat like normal vehicles do. Most every other vehicle I've owned sweat when running the A/C it does but just not a lot. I hear it hiss like the drip is hitting something hot when I shut the door on the truck.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Slight Hissing Sound When Lightly Press The Accelerator And Then Stops

I have a 2004 F150 4.6L... There is a slight hissing sound under the dash on the drivers side when you lightly press the accelerator and then stops. No matter what speed you are going as soon as you apply the accelerator it hisses then stops. There is also the same hissing , only louder when the engine is cut off. It hisses for about 3 seconds. What could be causing this. It has been idling rough since the hissing started. The check engine light is on and showing P0420 and P0430 codes . The cats were replaced with resonators so I believe that is the reason for the codes.

Lexus RX 2004-09 :: RX330 A/C Does Not Keep The Cabin Cool

I have a 2005 RX 330 with about 100k on it. The A/C does not keep the cabin cool. If you turn the fan up it will keep it cooler. I took it back to the dealer and they say there is nothing wrong with it. They did recharge it but it did nothing. You have to keep the fan turned up to just stay comfortable. I have had service loaners and I have to keep turning the temp up or it gets too cold.

Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Rear A/C Is Not Blowing Out Cool Air

Had a question about the rear a/c cooling on my 2009 GX 470 - the last few days have been nice enough to warrant using the A/C. I noticed though, that the 4 rear vents seem to not be producing any cool air - kind of a problem when I have an overheated Boxer dog that would love some cool A/C. Any thoughts? I have the rear A/C on, all the way to the - or minus sign and the fan speed to Auto.

Century :: 2004 Buick AC Blows Very Cool But Not Cold

I have a 2004 Buick Century with about 48,000 miles on it..the A/C blows very cool but not cold,it should be colder..i also have a 2003 century that blows icy cold.. I hooked up a cheap gauge to the low side service port on both vehicles and got about the same reading. Other then being slightly low on refrigerant is their anything else that would cause the A/C to blow cool air rather then icy cold? The compressors seem to kick on the same on both vehicles. I really don't want to add refrigerant if it's not low...

Lexus GX 2004-09 :: 2007 GX470 - Rear AC Sometimes Takes A While To Cool Down

My GX and I are in the south and I sometimes have to leave it parked outside all day in 100F+ temperatures during the summer. Needless to say it gets extremely hot inside and sometimes takes a while to cool down. I started using my rear AC on full in conjunction with my main AC to facilitate cooling off the interior of the vehicle. I do this even when I'm by myself because... if I'm not mistaken... the rear AC uses a completely separate unit including a separate compressor. So it seems that it would cool things down faster running both systems. Can verify that the rear unit is completely independent of the main AC system?

Prius (2004-09) :: Something Went Puff Under The Hood And AC Stopped Blowing Cool Air

I've had my 2009 prius for about a month or so, used of course, a/c was working just fine until one day while parked, I turned the a/c on, put the fan at high and the cooling at low, when suddenly something went "puffff" under the front hood with blow of steam or dust or something like it not sure!

I immediately turned the car off, opened the hood and everything looked just fine, turned the a/c back on, it won't blow cool air no more...
