Today im driving along in my 2000 X v-10 limited and had the AC blowing on high. All of a sudden it started to blow out the defroster vents, then back to the correct dash vents, then back and forth intermittently.....No vacuum leaks that I could find.. Is that controls what vent doors open to control air flow?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2003 Excursion 7.3 2WD Limited and all of the sudden experienced a number of issues all at once.
1. Turn signals stopped flashing (hazards still flash)
2. Lost Rear back up sensors
3. Lost overhead trip computer
4. Lost Rear A/C - switch does nothing
5. Front A/C now only blows through the defroster vent
I've checked all the fuses and cant find any bad ones.
I replaced the multi-switch flasher and turn signals still dont work - only hazards.
So in the past week only on certain days I have lost my ability to change zones for where my nice refreshing cold air blows on me from. It only blows out of the defrost vents. I here a fluttering noise under the dash when this happens. Also under the hood where all the AC hoses and such are located I feel cold air coming from inside the black box just next to what looks like the blower fan assembly. I don't believe I should be feeling that.
View 5 RepliesBeen noticing this lately. Kinda smells like coolant I think but it's intermittent and for a short period of time. Notice it more when turning the heater on or when setting the temp to a higher setting.
Havent noticed any leaks on the carpet. Heater core? Why intermittent?
2002, F250, 5.4, ZF6, 140k.
My heat only blows through the defroster. I was looking for my vacuum pump, but can't seem to find it. I find plenty of diesel threads where they show it, but mine isn't in the same location. I can actuate the diverter by hand and it will make the heat stop at the defroster and come out at your feet.
I have attached images of my rig.
Were to look for the vacuum pump? Any key spots to look for failed vacuum lines? What is this?
This is where most threads say the vacuum pump should be.
This switches from defrost to floor when operated manually.
My uncles 99 f150 is acting a little strange. When he steps on the gas, the air conditioning comes out of the defroster vents. What's going on?
View 9 RepliesI have a 2014 sonata gls with about 20K miles (have only owned it for about 3K miles) and have noticed that no matter what position the selector switch is in, the air only comes out of the defroster vents. None through floor vents, nor front vents... just the defroster. What i should check or do?
View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 with the v10 4x4 with 130,000 miles problem started one day when putting on brakes the peddle felt like it pulsated a little like the abs had activated, then a couple of minutes later the light came on. Did not do again and the light went off, started doing it on and off every so often same thing. Took to private machenic he checked all the brakes and found the pins froze up on one in the back and one in the front. Took home did it again, took back he ran codes and found the vss coded changed it did it again before I got home.
Took back drove mechenic around with scanner hooked up did it again and showed code for vss. Got on here did search and could not find anything that really matched what I have happening. Seen several threads about the cops causing this but when it happens to me I dont lose my speedo or gauges only the abs light comes on and then after a while goes off. Now the light is coming on sometimes without hitting the brakes. The only other thing the mechenic said when we drove around was that the front wheel sensors one was reading a couple of mph faster than the other one untill you hit 20mph than they both read the same. going back to shop Wednesday but we dont have a clue where to go next.
I have a 2000 X V10 and am having an intermittent high idle condition. I have searched the forums and found some useful info but nothing that addresses this issue. Here's what I've done. New IAC, found PCV valve hose leaking-replaced also new valve, found another vacuum leak-repaired, tested TPS and that was fine according to the specs I found. So here's my problem-upon starting engine occasionally "stumbles" then roars to life idles 8-1100rpm. Drives well till stopping at an intersection and idles 1100-1200 rpm.(lots of brake) Can pull into parking spot place in park and will idle up 1500-1800 rpm and then only drop to 1200 or so. I have checked everything I know. ALL these idle conditions are INTERMITTENT. (and yes I did check for codes "0" ) There is no loss of power.

View 2 RepliesMy 1999 F 250 5.4 liter. I know I have a vacuum leak because whenever I accelerate the air conditioning coming from the vents switches to the defroster. So my question is how do I go about finding the leak? My hubs in the front are manual so I know I don't have lines going up there. I do have some mechanical capabilities I've changed water pumps alternators brakes etc. But never anything with vacuum lines or a/c.

View 1 RepliesMy windshield and side window defroster vents have not been working but every other air feature on the air system works fine. When I switch to the defroster, air just continues to come out of the front vents and not out of the defroster vent located on the top of the dash. I plan on going to dealership to have it checked out. I have looked through my hayne's book with no luck. One of my buddies said it could be a relay or something but I have not been able to find a relay specific to the defroster. Just wanted to get this sorted out because it takes longer than usual to defog/defrost my windows now without this feature working correctly.
I have a 2003 Honda Accord EX V-6 Coupe with dual climate control.
I got my first Toyota couple months ago, Camry xle i4 38k. Everything is fine except for the not-so-smooth tranny, but I get used to it. The thing annoys me is the moldy smell from the vents. I usually turn on fan (A/C off, inner circulation on), when notice the smell, I changed the cabin air filter (the old one has tons of dirt!!). the smell goes away, but whenever I put on defroster, it comes back.
View 11 RepliesNew GTI owner here! Just picked up my '16 carbon steel gray Autobahn with PP, DSG, DCC, Xenon. Really enjoying it. Coming from an 07 E92 335i, I'm still getting used to the very different feel of this vehicle, but it's mostly a pleasant experience. However, one issue: there's a sound coming from the defroster vents, a kind of dull "rattle sound" that isn't anything terrible but I wish it wasn't there. It isn't a leaf hitting a fan blade as it goes away if I turn off the defrost vents. It just sounds like air hitting a rough edge on something causing a turbulence noise. I guess it could be something fluttering in that area, but I can't see anything when looking at the vent from outside the car and it's very constant.
View 15 RepliesI have a f150 2007 with a 4.2 in it. The CEL comes on and when this happens the air comes out the a/c vents and no where else. We have cleared the code out but it comes back on when we do clear it out the air blows out where the dial is set. I think there is a vac leak somewhere....
View 14 RepliesMy 1996 Jeep Cherokee A/C system pushes cold air but out of the defroster vents not the A/C vents. Why this is happening? I suspect it is the slide switches for the A/C system but I am not sure and do not want to take the dash apart before I have some confirmation. I have checked the vacuum hoses with the heater/A/C system and they seem fine.
View 2 RepliesI have a 1996 Suzuki Swift. My defroster stopped working several weeks ago.
If I have the defroster and heater on at the same time, white vapor smoke comes from my vents. My heater works fine when I choose the vent option for it to blow directly on me but I can see and smell light blue smoke if I change the vent option to blow on my feet.
In addition a thin white film covers my windows while I'm driving whether I have the heater on or not (and there's a slight oil smell in the car if the heater is on - I do have an oil leak). The thin white film can be wiped from the windows easily at first but becomes more difficult to wipe after 30 minutes or so of driving. Once I turn the car off, the film disappears within 6-8 hours.
The wife and I went out for lunch yesterday and I ran into some odd stuff with my A/C on the way home.
I had the A/C set and to blow out from the front dash, after a couple moments I noticed the noise level of the A/C blowing change and there was no longer any air coming from the front of the dash but rather from the top as if I turned on the defroster for the windshield.
I tried multiple settings both with and without the rear climate control running, same problem. It would intermittently switch to blowing from the defroster, and sometimes it would switch back on its own.
I have a 2008 Ford Escape XLS (4 cylinder) that currently is having an issue with the AC system. It blows the air at the correct temp but it only comes out of the primary vents. If i select defroster or floor vents, it doesn't switch over to those. What specifically should I be looking at to fix it.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2010 f-150. Started having issues with the blend door actuator located behind the radio so replaced that a couple months ago and fixed issue. Now the a/c will only blow through the defrost and floor vents. I replaced the lower blend door actuator thinking that might be the culprit, but did not fix the problem. What the solution might be.
