Ford Excursion :: 2001 - 4 Wheel Drive Squeaking When Locked In

2001 7.3 l 4X4. I have done a ton of work to get the suspension and steering right. Changed all the shocks, added hellwig sways to front and rear, replaced steering gear with redhead, ball joints and added warns hubs. My question is today was the first time engaging the four wheel drive. I locked the hubs and turned the switch to 4X4 low, it starting squeaking and squalling and felt like my wheels were coming off. I put everything back to 2WD. I switched it to four wheel with out locking the hubs. no problem. When I locked the hubs in it started again. Been doing some research and looking at needle bearings, wheel bearings and axle joints.

Ford Excursion :: 4 Wheel Drive - Vacuum Seal Is Out

I have an 02 4x4 excursion. How can i tell if the 4 wheel drive is working? If I turn the switch I dont feel any change. Also sometimes I hear air coming up near the defrost at the base of the windshield which makes me think maybe the vacuum seal is out. Also how can I check/change the hubs between manual and auto and what applications would warrant switching them?

I bought a 2000 Excursion XLT, 4x4 with the 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel back in the fall. Here in Indiana the winter is getting bad, not exactly the best time to find out your 4x4 doesn't work! My 4x4 light comes on, but I can tell I'm not in four wheel drive. I've read that on the diesels that the fix could be a simple vacuum line.

Ford Excursion :: 2001 V10 - Squeaking Noise Underneath The Driver Side Floorboard

Just picked up an 01 Excursion V10 for $2900 with 170k on the odometer. Has some damage on the left quarter panel, but it runs perfectly.

Since I bought it, there has been a squeaking noise that I could feel underneath the driver's side floorboard. I figured it was body mounts. To find out if that was the case, I first sprayed both the sway bar bushings and the body mounts with some oil. The noise went away, but came back the next day.

The second time, I sprayed only the body mounts, and again the noise went away, only to return again. Aside from which, the sway bar bushings look like they were installed very recently.

So, it's the body mounts, but I've come across threads here and elsewhere that these were a common issue, but I haven't seen a fix for them. I assume new mounts would eventually develop the same noise.

What am I looking at here? Just some new mounts or do I need to do something else?

I have the ESOF in a 2000 Excursion. I went to use 4X4 high and it would not give me 4 wheel drive. light on dash said 4X4 but no 4 wheel drive. I was in snow and only rear wheels spun. When switch is placed in 4X4 low I get 4 wheel drive.

I have a 2001 Subaru legacy outback station wagon that is making a rotational squeeking/screeching noise from a passenger side wheel (haven't determined which one). I hear the noise when I am going slow, below 20 mph, though I can't tell if it is still making the noise at higher speeds. It stops completely when I apply my brakes. The brakes and tires were replaced within the last 3 months, this noise has been occurring for much longer than that.

The right rear wheel is getting hot on my 2001 ltd 4x4 7.3. It also has some smell of brakes. That wheel had a new caliper, and pads as well as a new line about 2 years or 15K ago. What should I look at first? Could the emergency brake be sticking?

S-10 :: 2001 4 Wheel Drive Won't Engage

I have an 01 s10 with the 3 switch 4x4. When I switch into 4hi I hear the click at the dash and I hear the switch on the transfer case but it doesn't engage in 4x4. The lights o. The dash act normal and says its in 4 wheel. I've had problems with the switch on the front of the transfer case in the past and was able to clean it and it was OK for awhile and now nothing. I replaced that switch and hear it working but still not engaging. I did notice a bad vac line on the firewall but not sure where it goes yet. Is there an order I should be checking components? What should I look for next? Also should mention in 2hi I get a whining noise like a shaft is spinning but when in 4hi the noise goes away and it drives like its in 2hi.

Ford Excursion :: 2001 - Sloppy Steering Wheel At 185k Miles?

I have an 01 Ex, 6"lift, 35" tires, 185,000 miles. I have gradually gotten to this point where the steering is very loose. I can roll the steering wheel back and forth with out "catching" the wheels & with the bigger tires, they catch grooves in the road & pull the vehicle side to side. I took in to a reputable 4x4 shop & he suggested the steering gear box was going bad. So I had them replace that. That did solve about 50% of the problem. So what is the next thing to look at??? Ball joints?

got an issue with my 01 excursion. When driving the steering wheel with vibrate or shimmy. As in if the rotor maybe warped or tire has a small bubble in it. Here is the kicker. It does not do it all the time. Some times I can drive it and it drives just as smooth as can be and I can go all the way to town and back. Then sometimes I can drive it to town and either turn a curve or hit a bump and then it will start doing it. Then I will come back home. Then the next time i jump in it and start driving down the road and it is just fine. I just had the brakes and rotors were just changed.

Ford Transmission :: AOD Seems To Stay Locked Up In Either Drive Or Reverse

91 F-150 4x4 with AOD. OD,D,1st gear. The truck will idle fine, but when I put it into gear it seems like it is locked in in either drive or reverse. Its hard to stop at lights or stop signs and boggs the engine down and has no low end power. When in neutral it is fine. I have replaced the torque converter with a new one, no change. I replaced the valve body with a constant pressure body as well and still no change. Is there anything else that could keep the thing locked up? The smaller inside overdrive shaft looked good and slid in and out easily. Is there any kind of solenoid in the AOD that would cause this or if vacuum has any role in this problem...

Last night I backed up out of a parking space and when I put it in drive it wouldn't move. It seemed like the transmission was locked up. What happened? The truck was running fine. 2004 Santa Fe, after starting car the brakes make a grinding noise, the nthe ABS, ESC and 4 wheel drive light come on. After the initial grinding the noise stops and the brakes work fine. Just the lights stay on.

Ford Excursion :: Stuck In 4x4 With Hubs Locked

A relative's '04 EX Limited is having an odd problem. He put it in "4x4 Low" to back a trailer into a barn and after the task was complete the transfer case wouldn't shift out of low range. He tried multiple times and after about 5 minutes of fiddling around with it, it shifted into 4-Hi but wouldn't go back to 2-Hi. The hubs are in the "auto" position and will not manually unlock (the selector turns). 4x4 indicator on dash is not lit. Could the dash switch be bad? Why would the transfer case and hubs act up at the same time?

Ford Excursion :: 4WD - Driver Side Hub Seems To Be Stuck In Locked Position

The drivers side Hub seems to be stuck in Locked Position. I lifted the Wheel and when I turn it the Front Drive shaft turns and you can feel a fair amount of resistance.

I lifted the Passenger side and it spins free. I then started it and put it in 4WD and the passenger side engaged and i could not free spin the wheel. I then lifted the drivers side again and it would not spin. Turned off 4WD and it spun again but moved the shaft.
