Ford Excursion :: Loud Pop And Then Immediate Ticking

Feb 8, 2013

So I went out to take off in the Excursion today and right when I started it I heard a loud "pop" and then immediate loud ticking. Sounds like a major exhaust leak but not sure what the "pop" was??

Ford Excursion :: 2001 V10 - Loud Ticking Noise With AC On

I have a 2001 Excursion v10. Every time I turn my AC on, as soon as it engages, there is a very loud clicking/ticking noise coming from the engine. What this is? Is it the compressor going out?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Engine Ticking Loud At Hot Idle

I have a 2008 Ford F150 that ticks loudly at hot idle. Took it to the dealer and hear is what the service manager has said so far:

"So far we checked codes, all was ok. tested oil pressure and found it met the spec of 15 PSI, removed valve covers. Found the CVT solonoids are the newer style. Inspected the camshafts, cam phasers, rocker arms, cam chains. All check ok at this time. Not finding any true "root of concern" I'm trying to get approval for engine replacement in hopes that replacement is quieter. Approval is difficult without any true failure...still working on it though."

If this is not the cam phasers, what else could it possibly be?

Here is my engine noise: [URL] .....

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Loud Ticking On Right Side When Cold

I have a 2010 F150 with the 4.62v. I bought it new in March '11 and have used either MC 5w20 or Pennzoil 5w20 and MC filters, changing every 5k since new. When cold (30deg F or below) the right side has a loud ticking, until it has run for approx 1 minute. Since it is a 2v, cam phasers should not be a part of the problem. What the issue could be. It has just over 36k now, so the powertrain warranty should still be valid.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Loud Ticking Noise Behind The Glove Box

The code was P040 which said is for the EGR system so I removed the EGR valve. It was completely plugged in the top section. I cleaned it out and cleaned out the ends of the EGR coolers then vacuumed the port out and reinstalled the valve and removed battery cables for 2 minutes to remove old check engine light codes . I drove it for 50 miles and it runs fine now and the check engine light did not come on. It still has a loud ticking noise behind the glove box which I read can be the blend door relay so I will try to pinpoint exactly what is making the noise as soon as I figure out how to get the glove box door off.

Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Slight Ticking While A/C On?

Yesterday was one of the first days I ran my AC this year...stopped at the mail box and as I walked by the front of the truck I could hear a ticking sound...got to the driveway and tried the AC in Max, Regular, Fan, and Off...in Max and Regular, a ticking sound (compressor?)...in just Fan and Off nothing. I'm guessing the compressor may be on it's way out...

2000 V10 Limted 4X4 if it matters.

Ford Excursion :: 2001 V10 - Ticking Noise At 1500 RPMs

I have a 2001 v10 with about 157k miles on it. Recently (within last 2 months) I am getting a ticking noise that is pretty constant. It doesn't seem to increase with rpms and I can barely hear it with the hood open- I hear it much better with the hood closed. It seems to start about 2-3 seconds after I start the car (when fan clutch engages?) and seems to be coming from the front middle of the engine. I do not see any broken exhaust studs. I do also occasionally have a ticking noise at 1500 rpms (only at 1500 rpms- not sure if it's related or not). I made a short video- not sure if you can hear the noise.

Ford Excursion :: Backup Sensors - Fast Ticking From Only One Sensor

Ok, so it seems I have 3 bad backup sensors on the 2002 Ex. Background information for those considering a repair:

I put the Ex in reverse, key in run and can hear "fast ticking" from only one sensor. Sensor removal is easy (at lease on the two outside sensors). Two tabs on the black housing in the bumper hold the cylindrical sensor in place. Release the two tabs and work the sensor out. I haven't tried to remove the bad inside sensor yet as there is a lot less room to work there.

Once removed, a single tab on the wiring harness connector holds the sensor in place.

Here is the problem I have. I can't get the sensor to LOCK back into the connector. I have backed the connector against the bumper and pushed on the sensor with all my strength and I cannot get it to lock back into the single tab on the connector.

Is there a trick I am missing? I am ready to try vice grips but I fear I will damage the connector.

Ford Excursion :: 2000 V10 - Ticking Noise When Cold Or Warm Only When Accelerating

I have a ticking noise that seems to be coming from the drivers side of the engine. 2000 Excursion. It only happens when accelerating in every gear between 1400-2100. No noise at idle or park. Same noise when cold or warm, again only when accelerating. Goes away when you take your foot off gas. New exhaust studs, exhaust does not seem to be leaking, no carbon build up anywhere. No engine codes. Truck runs great and no loss of power. V10 with 120 k on it. Really annoying.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: F250 - Loud Ticking Noise For A Short Period (30 Seconds) On Cold Startup

6.2L F250 truck is just shy of 60k runs good however on cold startup there's now a pretty loud ticking noise for a short period (30 seconds) until it warms up then it slowly goes away. Once its warmed up there isn't much of anything.

Did these have exhaust manifold gasket problems like the 5.4? Hoping that's it if not, any other common problems that would make that ticking noise and then go away quickly once the engine is warmed up.

Prius (Gen 2) :: Knocking / Loud Ticking Behind Glovebox

When we are running the AC sometimes there is a loud ticking sound coming from behind the glove box. It does not matter what the temperature is set at, but is more likely to do it at stoplights. The sound is not constant in tempo or volume. I would take it to Toyota but I am sure it will not make the noise when there is a mechanic within 20 yards.

Touareg :: Loud Ticking From Front Left End?

I noticed when I take off quickly from a stop while turning left I hear a very loud ticking from the front left of the car. The ticking continues until I let off the gas and straiten the vehicle up. I can only hear it when I have the window down. It sounds like the lifters are ticking but I don't think it's that. I had the oil changed less than 4k ago and the oil still looks clean. I currently have about 25k on it. I tried to search the forum with no luck. What could this be?

Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Loud Ticking On Startup

I just bought a 2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS (Canadian model) with 44k km. When I first test drove the car, the dealer (Honda) had the car warmed up and ready to go. As a result, I didn't notice the loud engine or anything. All I noticed is the engine was louder on acceleration versus my 2008 accord. I already bought the car but today I asked to test drive the car again (I'm excited) and noticed a loud ticking on startup? I asked the Honda dealer what was wrong and they simply said Hyundais are louder than Hondas. My 2008 accord has a ticking engine already but Honda is rebuilding the engine. This car is ticking louder than my 2008 accord. However, the car does quiet down when the engine is warm.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Loud Ticking Noise Under The Hood

2.7L V6 here. It's got a loud ticking noise under the hood that sounds like it is coming from about the middle of the head closest to the front. It's been doing this for a long time now and is finally bugging me. The noise is related to RPMs meaning that as you rev the motor it gets faster (but not really louder). When I pulled the valve cover about a year ago both heads had lots of gunked up old burned oil which I cleaned up as much as possible. It doesn't throw any codes and runs just fine.

I'm about 99.9% sure I've got a collapsed lash adjuster(s). Is there a way to test it without pulling it? Can I pull the valve cover and have someone turn the engine over a few times to check for oil pumping from the lash adjusters? Is there a way to press it and see if it moves without pulling the cams? Any options to try and clean them while still in the motor?

Touareg :: Ticking, Clicking And All Sorts Of Loud Noises With AC On

It seems that my a/c, after a "flapper" was replaced, is clicking, ticking, and making all sorts of loud noises with the a/c on. Once the system is put above 74 degrees the knocking and noises go away. The noises seem to emit from directly behind the radio.

Lexus IS 2014+ :: Loud Ticking Coming From Engine Valves?

2014 IS350 ... having issues with loud ticking from engine? Sounds like it's coming from the engine valves. Lose valves maybe? My car only has 16k miles. But the ticking is annoying. I cant imagine the valves ticking that loud with such low miles. And it ticks even after warmed up. The oil is within normal range and still looks clean. I'm not due for an oil change for another 2k. (i change the oil every 5k). I am considering switching to sightly higher weight oil for the summer time.

Golf/GTI VII :: Rapid And Loud Ticking Sound After 20,000 Mile Service

So I just brought my 2015 golf TDI in for its 20,000 standard service and then starting about 2 days later, every time I start the engine there is this rapid (and loud) ticking sound which goes on for 20 seconds or so before stopping. It almost sounds like it is coming from the passenger side speaker or under the passenger side dash. It sounds electronic in nature rather than mechanical but I'm not really sure.
