Ford :: Explorer 2003 Dies When Passenger Rides

May 22, 2013

My 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac only dies when someone rides in the front passenger seat. Then it won't start for at least 30 min to an hour. The time seams to vary. There is no warning light, no motor sounds or any kind of warning at all. It just dies. When trying to start it cranks great, no signs of battery drain. I think it's the auto shutoff wiring in the floorboard that goes to the reset button for the fuel pump. I tok it to a dealer and they put in a new fuel pump. $1000 later that night it did the same thing. I had a friend in the passenger seat. I took it back the next morning and they kept it for 3 days but could never get it to die. So my thought is they never had a passenger. I tested it myself in my driveway and stomped my feet around the floor and it died.

Ford - Explorer :: 2003 - Passenger Side Window Won't Go Down?

My son has an '03 Explorer. The passenger side window will not go down. We took the panel off the door and used a volt meter to check to see if voltage was coming from the switch to the motor. Both the up and down side of the motor pigtail was getting fire from both the driver side switch and the passenger side switch. We bought a used window assembly (cables, motor, etc) and tried the switches. The switch worked until the window was fully extended to the up/closed position, then would not go down...just like the one in the door. Took the motor off the window assembly (the original one still in the door) and tried the switch and it works fine...both up and down. There seems to be a limit switch or something that knows when something has over extended.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Truck Won't Start / Loud Click On Passenger Wheel Well And Then All Electric Completely Dies

Just tried putting a ts6 on my pcm. First time I hooked it back up I just got cranking with no start. So I pulled the pcm terminals really well plugged it back in and got nothing. I do not remember because I was kind of in a hurry if I unplugged the batter cables and back on the second time. I plugged it back in after cleaning terminals and went to start and got nothing. A loud click on passenger wheel well and then all electric in truck completely dies. I hope I didn't fry my pcm. Maybe just blew a fuse or starter relay?

Ford - Explorer :: 2000 - Dies When Shifted Into Reverse?

I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4, powered by the 4.0L SOHC V6 engine, with a 5R55E transmission. It now has this issue of stalling and dying when shifted from park to reverse. This can be prevented by applying the gas immediately after shifting, however, my wife cannot do this. (she is very temperamental, and doesn't remember that this issue occurs decently often now, so if it happens once, she bites my head off because I haven't fixed this issue yet) I do not see this as the valve body issue, because the tranny shifts fine, and I have engine braking ability, still. What causes this, and what I can do to fix it?

Ford - Explorer :: 2006 - Hesitates And Dies Sometimes Off The Line / CEL On

My sister in law just got into an accident today because her 2006 Explorer hesitates and dies sometimes off the line. Check engine light will come on, and won't go apparently. If she shuts it off and restarts, it will usually work for a little while again. Today, it happened when she took off on a green light, it stalled out and the guy behind her rear ended her. She isn't real happy with her Ford.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2002 GT Rides Too Harsh / Very Bumpy And Stiff?

I bought a 02 elantra gt for a good price and had about 120,000 miles. The car had after market 18" rims on it and i planned to take them off since i don't like rims anyway and the rims were making the car bouncy and didn't ride right. So i got the recommended tire size for an elantra which is 195-60r-15 and put them on. while taking off the rims I realized that there was some clamps on the suspension and I didn't know what they did so i just took them off as well. What i have noticed is that the ride is very very harsh. I feel every bump on the road which you kind of get used to but when a bad bump comes on the road it feels like the car just got dropped from the air, its literally bad and i cant return the car since i bought it "as is". At first i thought it was the tires or tire pressure but this seems way worse just to be tire pressure. I just want a smooth riding car. The car seems lower like there isn't much space between the top of the tire and the hood of the car.

Ford - Explorer :: 2001 - Starts Then Sputters / Dies And Won't Restart Again?

I have been having issues with my 2001 sports trac 4x4 v6 sohc fuel in. 132k mileage. The problem is I can jump in and it will start first try, fuel pump is heard activating, idle is rough, feels like truck is about to die, pumping on the gas usually causes it to catch and smooth out......after 10 mins. or sometimes less than that truck starts to sputter, step on throttle it dies faster, sometimes when stepping on the throttle before it dies and a truck is able to rev up and then back to idle and not die.

But most times stepping on the gas when it begins to sputter after running for 10 mins or so causes it to die once it dies it doesn't start back up and when key is turned on and off, no fuel pump activation noise. I have scantool data take off an autel 619 saved to notebook text format. Those are my numbers for the scan tool, suggestions I have gotten so far are vacuum leak, failing fuel pump, bad o2 sensors, bad MAF.......so far replaced fuel filter and cleaned MAF....no difference.

Ford - Explorer :: 2004 V6 - Engine Dies When Using Cruise Control

I have a 2004 Explorer with the V6 engine. Twice I have had the engine die while I was setting the cruise control at speeds around 35 MPH. I shift into neutral and it starts right up but it sure startles you when it seems that you can't turn the steering wheel. What causes this?

Nissan - 350z :: 2004 - Stalls At Idle - Rides Rough When In Gear

I was driving on the highway today, and when I turned onto the exit ramp and put the car in neutral I noticed my gear shifter shaking back and forth pretty violently. I looked down at the tachometer and saw it idling at less than 200 rpm's in neutral. I got to the light and my car stalled. I turned it back on and I had to feather the gas pedal just to keep the car running. I was able to make it to my local car mechanic with one foot on the gas pedal and my hand on the e-brake. It runs a little rough when in gear but at least it keeps the rpm's up enough to stay running. The check engine light never came on. My guy said that he didn't have the appropriate diagnostic machine, but he's afraid I might need a new throttle body and a new computer which may cost 1000's of dollars. I think the code he told me that he found was P0506. He sent me to a guy that deals only with Japanese cars, but they won't be able to look at my car until Monday.

Any thoughts? Hopefully something that doesn't cost 1000's of dollars. And if I replace the throttle body does that mean I have to replace the computer too? Is there something that I did or that I didn't do that I should have been doing that could have caused this to break?

Ford - Explorer :: 1998 - Rough Idle Sometimes / Dies Completely Without Warning

ok, 3 times now I've been extremely close to being hit head on by oncoming traffic due to a seemingly uncurable stalling problem. It idles rough sometimes, and other times it seems fine. BUT when sitting at a light, waiting to turn left after the oncoming traffic has a quick opening, I start to go, I get halfway across the intersection and then without warning, it dies completely. Now its too late to stop and back up- and the cars are flying head on towards you locking up they're brakes. One time I would have been killed by the 18 wheeler that was coming if I hadn't gotten it started and moving again just in time.

I replaced the IAC, the plugs, filters and wires, and the EGR valve. I checked everywhere for intake leaks and found nothing. Changed the O2 sensors since they had plenty of mileage on em. It idles like crap still, even after 30+ tanks of every kind of injector cleaner they make. We used the snap on scanner tool to monitor things and it never acted up then. The TPS seems to move smoothly, and fuel pressure was checked and found to be around 25-30 psi. Don't know if that's normal. The intake air temp was reading a constant 120 degrees F. I also checked the fuel cap to make sure it was closing completely. The dealer checked the TB for excessive clearance and said it was ok.

It seems to only stall like that after driving on the highway and then stopping at the first light after that.

Ford - Explorer :: 2002 - Rumbles And Shakes When Running And RPM Fall Then It Just Dies

248k miles on it, was taken from a body shop and put on side of road, I know who took it but can't prove it. He is known for messing with ppl vehicles. . Started up just fine when found, but you can hold foot completely down on gas and it's like it is losing pressure (?) , it rumbles and shakes when running and you can watch the RPMS fall while holding gas pedal down (in park) until it just dies. It has an "egg" smell and one side will get hot while the other stays cold. It was something intentionally done to my vehicle. .already checked Cadillac converter and cleaned/removed muffler. I'm not sure where to start looking now, I'm a single mother without the money to take it to a repair shop. We could drive it onto the trailer to get it to a friend house, but barely made it up it without dying...

Ford - Explorer :: 2002 - Won't Start / Crank Till Battery Dies But Is Not Getting Fuel

I've got a 2002 Ford Sports Trac that won't start ! It will crank till battery dies but is not getting fuel. I have had it towed 4 times in the past year. of the 4 times, this last time it wont start. Every time that I have had it towed back to my house and dropped in the driveway it has started up with no problems. It will run for a few months or more. This last time it would not.

Could this be an electrical problem.Maybe loose ground somewhere or something else. Would like to rule out some things before investing in a fuel filter or fuel pump. Would hate to buy new FuelPump and that not be the problem. Can't find free wiring diaghrams for this issue.

Ford - Explorer :: 2000 - Rear Passenger Wheel Locked Up

So my Explorer has been parked for over a year following a minor front-end collision. I went to move it yesterday only to find that the rear passenger wheel was locked up. It wouldn't move fw or backwards and it felt like the brakes were locked up. I took the wheel off and it appeared that the caliper wasn't releasing properly, so I pryed the pads away from the rotor and tried again but still couldn't move the vehicle. So I jacked both rear wheels off the ground and tried. The passenger wheel remained locked while the drivers side rear wheel would spin a bit one way and then back the other way. It is possible that the brake locked up again as I had to depress the brake in order to get it in gear, but am wondering if there is something else going on. Also... Seems the truck is stuck in 4x4 even though the selector switch in in 'auto' (my 4x4 switch choices are Auto, 4-Lo and 4-Hi). Is it correct that as soon as one of the wheels is off the ground that the vehicle goes into 4x4? If so then that makes sense.
