My 2001 F150 was dead, my son came in and told me Dad when I open the door I hear a clicking. Upon investigation a relay in fuse panel was clicking and I had to jump start the truck. NOTE- The truck has a brand new battery purchased 3 days prior to this issue.
View 2 RepliesI have a 98 f150 Lariat 4wd Automatic with a 2000 4.6. When i turn the key the only thing that happens is i hear a relay in the fusebox in the dash clicking. I can cross the starter relay on the firewall with a screwdriver and itll start right up. Heres what ive done troubleshooting wise.
1. Checked battery terminals. Fine, it will start with jumping the relay so it seems good with that regard.
2. Tested the relay per the manual. Good.
3.Ohms Tested the white ignition switch box under the dash per manual. Good
4. Voltage tested the Trans Range Sensor per manual. Good.
5. Checked over all fuses, none blown.
6. No theft lights come on.
I figure since it will start jumping the relay that the battery, starter, and starter solenoid are all good. Only thing i cant seem to find is the Starter Interrupt Relay, or any sign of fusible links on the main battery cables. I am really at a loss here i figured one of the components ive tested would be it.
I am having trouble with my 2001 F-150. Starting yesterday it would not start. At 1st i thought it wa the battery, so i took it off, charged it, put it back in the truck and still no start. There is a clicking noise coming from a relay in the cabin fuse box, disconnected the battery, removed relay to inspect and everything looks good. After plugging it back in, and connecting the battery, the truck still wont start and there is a clicking sound coming from the dash near the radio. Rhis is my work vehicle!!!

View 11 RepliesI think I have a battery issue but wanted to ask the group in case someone ran into this before.
Went to start my truck this morning and did the normal dead battery sound but doesn't have enough power to turn the engine. I can see the engine start to turn but can't get over compression.
So I bought a new Interstate battery from Costco, installed it, and same problem. Hooked up a charger and it showed 25%. Let it charge for 4 hours, now it's at 50% and still won't turn over.
I'm going to wait over night and let it charge, but I wanted to ask the group if there is any known problems (Beyond battery) that would do this.
My 1999 f-250 7.3 has been sitting for months, and I went to start it and both batteries are dead. Replaced both batteries and at first the alarm went off like normal. Turned the alarm off, hit the unlock button and it beeped like normal. Got in and stuck the key in the ignition and tried to turn it over. Completely dead. Now I cant even get the alarm to go off, showing no signs that its even getting any power. And all I'm hearing is a low clicking noise in the cab.
View 5 RepliesThis relay is clicking about once a second, and the car won't start (it doesn't even turn over). Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery doesn't seem to have an effect, but I did notice that it seems to stop for a few seconds when I open the door. What's going on?
View 3 RepliesHad a weird issue come up this weekend. I went to drive my truck for the first time in a couple of weeks and when I got in I noticed a constant clicking from under the dash (whether the truck was on, off or if the indicators / hazard lights were on or off). I investigated and found it was my flasher relay. I have replaced this relay recently (within the past year) to an EP27L to accommodate the LED lighting I installed throughout the truck (hyper flash on the old relay doesn't even describe it properly, it was a constant buzz!) and it has been working perfectly until this point.
I thought it may just be something going on with the relay so I pulled it and replaced with the old EP27 unit I still had. It does the same thing, albeit at a slower rate (every 4-5 seconds). The lights do not blink when it is doing this, but still operate normally when I move my stalk up or down or when I press the hazard / flasher button on top of the steering column.
I am wondering if there is a short somewhere in my multifunction switch that is causing this issue? If so, why would it come up when truck has been sat? I didn't have the time, not the inclination to roll around inside my truck (hotter than hades here in Florida right now) to troubleshoot any further. I pulled the relay altogether until I get some time and cooler weather to look into it further. Otherwise the truck seems to operate as normal, even all the lighting seems to have no ill effects from this?
I went out in the 9 degree temp this morning to start my car and take off for work. I sat down and hit the power button and some console lights came on. The gear lights were blinking with a square light around each letter (P, D, R, B...) and the pips on the fuel gauge were blinking, beeping during each blink. Also, the green light on the power button was blinking and the little light showing that the key was not in the car was also on but the key was beside me. I turned it off to try it again.
Before I turned it back on, I inserted the key in the slot and hit the power button again and just the Check Engine light came on and everything else was black. There was a slow tempo click-click-click-click... sound coming from under the hood and the Check Engine light was just sitting there. I tried to turn the car off but the power button was not doing anything. All I could do is let the Check Engine light stay on and the click-click-click-click... sound chirp away. I went back out in a couple hours and the battery was dead.
Just seeing if that might mean something specific before I go drop about $200 on a new 12v battery later today.
i have a 2003 with v10 limited excursion its 4x4 has new battery in it also when parked on level groundi have no issues and when parked with the front end down i have no issues. however when i park the truck with the front end up in the air. example when parking in driveway about 30 to 40 degree angle with the nose up. the battery will go dead after sitting for just one day
View 5 RepliesI have a 97 F-150 that the A/C went from blowing cold to hot instantly. I have done the following;
1. Checked fuse. Was good.
2. Checked Low Pressure connection.
On this, I jumpered the connector and could not get the clutch to engage. I also checked to make sure I had 12v from that point, which I did.
3. Checked the power to the clutch assembly. Got nothing. I also put 12v directly to the clutch and it poped in just fine.
Based on all of this I think I have a bad relay between the low pressure sensor and the clutch assembly. The only problem is I cant find it. Where this relay is located
Let's start from the beginning. I have an 03 f150. After loading it up for a big kayak trip, it wouldn't start. The odo read all blanks and the theft light was blinking rapidly( for about a min, then the "16 code")
Soo I checked all the fuses and relays with multimeter and they all checked fine. Checked all the connections and everything else right in front of me.
Soo this is where I'm stumped. On the pcm relay, I get constant power on the bottom pin. I also get power when the key is on to the right pin. The ground is good(left pin), as I used it for the test.
Now if I jump power from the battery to the top pin the truck starts right up. No theft light, and the odo is fine. So I replaced the relay, even though it tested fine, because that had to be it...right? Still nothing...
Not really sure what that means, or where to look.
My truck has started fine every time I've turned the key except for last night after work. I got in had all the lights on the dash and dome lights. I turned the key and nothing. Not even a click. Hooked it up to a company truck and it fired right up and ran fine. Drove home shut off and then started it a little later and it started fine. Then this morning it wouldn't start. I hooked up the jump pack and still nothing. I drove my fusion to work and when I got home I went out and it fired right up like nothing happened. Does the work sometimes not work other times sound like the solenoid on the firewall? 2000 4x4 4.6 auto 253k miles
View 4 RepliesI have 2003 Toyota corolla. Recently one of the relay from the fuse box under the steering wheel started making clicking noise. I got it fixed from my mechanic by replacing it twice. When my mechanic checked for codes, he found that there was some problem with igniter circuit and car's motor is not able to generate enough power. I have observed that whenever I try turning on the heater, the relay also starts making clicking noise. I got it diagnosed from a professional auto electrician but he was also not able to find the fault and now the check engine is on all the time and flashes some time. I don't know how to fix my car.

View 9 RepliesThis is on my 98 F-150 4x4 with the 5.4 and 4R100. What happens is when I put the truck in reverse and get on and off the brakes, every time I do so a relay clicks. It sounds like it's right up behind the instrument cluster.
I stuck my hand back there and can feel the click resonating in the metal brackets, but I can't figure out where it's coming from. It's never done this before and I'm worried something may fail at an inopportune time.
What this may be? It's a really loud click too and only does this in reverse. Park, drive, neutral etc. are all fine. The odd thing is when I hear the click everything still works as normal, parking lights, brake lights, reverse lights.
1999 4.6L won't start after sitting a month. Ran fine before, now won't start. Cranks fine. Cannot hear fuel pump turn on when key is turned. Fuel pump fuse is good.
Fuel pump relay clicks a few times when key is turned. Is this normal? I am hoping it is the relay and not the pump. What should I check next? The wires at the pump? What should they read?
I have a 2002 F150 FX4 Lariat, and last week while driving at night with the light switch turned to auto lamp the lights suddenly started turning on and off rapidly and there was a clicking noise, which I assume was a relay cutting out. I turned the headlamp switch to the on position and the lights stayed on. When I got home the lights would not turn off, and when I turned it to autolamp the blinking started again, but in any other position the lights stayed on. I had to unhook the battery. I then purchased a new headlamp switch and my ford mechanic buddy installed it, but now the autolamp feature will not work. Is there a relay that may have got cooked?

View 3 Replies1997 F-150 XLT Extended cab. 4.6L VIN 6, 5 speed manual, 4x4. Replaced speed sensor on transfer case, speedometer is not completely dead but bounces around. Seems to be about 10 mph below actual speed. When I come to a stop say at a red light speedometer drops to zero at about 20 mph or so. Cruise also inop. It seems like whenever I let off the gas to stop or shift gears the speedometer drops down but then goes back up but not to the right speed. It has the mechanical odometer by the way. Everything else seems to be working fine. New speed sensor did not come with the plastic gear so I had to reuse the old one. Not sure if that gear was bad or not, but it was the pink one if that matters.
