I have the dreaded slip yoke clunk, I used the FORD SPEC PTFE lube and it works for a while until the tranny fluid that makes its way onto the slip yoke dissolves it!! Replacing the slip yoke with an updated one?
View 10 RepliesI have a 97 f150 (built 96 as 97 model), 4.2l 4x4, auto tranny. Here's the problem, when I turn my key forward to run position my starter kicks on and starts the truck, and stays engaged. I have a constant 14v at the signal wire on the starter relay (yellow red stripe). Also tranny started to slip, od light flashing. I replaced ignition lock cylinder, ignition/ starter switch, starter relay, starter, and today transmission range sensor (neutral safety switch 8 pin), same problem. Cel code that I had 2 days ago was P0707 tr sensor low input.

View 4 RepliesWhile chasing rattles I found my front driveline has a tiny bit of slop where the splines go into the yoke. (There is a bellows seal there just like the rear driveline so I am assuming it is a splined shaft into a yoke). Pounding on it with my fist there is a definite rattle and grabbing both halves you can feel a slight bit of play while twisting it back and forth. The rattle sounds a lot like the one I am hearing when I hit small bumps. Is this normal or should there be zero slop in that joint? By the way the u joints feel and look solid.
View 3 RepliesI have a 1997 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 with the 4.6W and a 4R70W trans. For the past year is has been leaking trans fluid and has slowly got worse and worse. At first the truck would only leak at high speeds (when driving on the interstate for extended periods of time) and now It has gotten to the point where I am adding close to a quart of fluid a week. ( roughly about a quart every 300 miles!). I thought that it was the pan gasket leaking at first, so I flushed the trans fluid (dropped the pan and drained the TC and put on a new filter) put a new gasket on and torqued it all down and added some new Valvoline max life fluid. The first trip in the truck I noticed a puddle of fluid under the truck again.
The pan looked like it could have been a little warped, so I ordered a new pan and a new FoMoCo gasket (the one the came with the new filter was the cheap felt type). I thought I for sure had fixed the truck this time, but I drove it and once again it was still leaking. I checked all that I could before replacing the pan and gasket. I checked the trans cooler lines and fittings (no leaks) I pulled the inspection plug and it was dry (so I ruled out the front pump or TC leaking). The whole underside of the truck is covered with fluid so it is hard to pin point the leak, but most of the fluid drips down on the transmission cross member.
Tranny just started slipping a couple of weeks ago, only occasionally. Seems to be between 2nd and 3rd. any chance a fluid change will work? I don't have have the money right now for a new or rebuilt and I am far from mechanically inclined to do the work myself. 2000 F150 62K org Miles....

View 1 RepliesI'm at 5,500 miles and the last couple of mornings I've had my tranny slip and lunge between gears, sometimes 2nd and 3rd and once out of 1st. I know there's an update/flash that needs to be done but my build date says not required. My truck was finished April of 2012. I'm going to call the stealer but I'm sure they will "check it out" and say nothing's wrong so it would pin point this issue.
View 7 RepliesI have a 03 4x4 5.4lt supcab with 154k miles. I replaced the shift motor about 40,000 ago but it has always been tempormental like I had to engage it in 4lo in N and then shift to 4hi to keep it in 4hi. Now fast forward to today. Went to shift to 4lo in N and it didn't shift. I only heard the relays click once and then it wouldn't shift into any gear even though the indicator was on PRND123. Didn't matter.
Also, Park didn't engage and the speedometer acted like it was engaged in RN and D. No movement what so ever. I think it might be the shift motor that shifted part way and is stuck in between gears. Is this possible? I drove fine to the dirt road and I haven't had problems other then the shift motor being touchy. I don't want to pay for a new tranny if it might be the shift motor.
Ok so I was going to just swap the whole rear end from drum to disk but it looked to be too much difficult;t. So the rear I have has 278,000 miles in it and its starting to make noise we were thinking about swapping the gear from the disk to the drum because the disk rear has 140,000 miles on it. Both have a limited slip. And 3.55 gears but i was thinking about getting 3.73.... So my question is can I swap in 3.73 gears into a rear end with the limited slip from one with 3.55 gears? Or do I need to buy a different limited slip?
View 7 RepliesI have an 01 4x4 Ext cab with the 5.4 auto. It just started to shudder in drive doing about 20-35 mph, it quit when I turned the OD off and has not come back yet. It also jumps in and out of OD while running highway speeds, kind of like hitting a bump or something like it. The shudder was in about 10 degree temps and not fully warmed up and the jump happens whenever I am at speeds around 60-75.
View 7 Replies03 F150 2WD-I dropped tranny pan, changed filter, reassembled, put in 4 qts fluid. Checked dipstick, seemed to be overfilled, despite instructions to add 5 qts. Started truck, put it in reverse, went about 4 feet and then tranny wouldn't engage-ran it through all gears, just acts like in park or neutral. Over or Under filled???

View 3 RepliesI am having issues with my 2003 F150 4.6L truck. It just happened today when driving home. It started fine and then when I increased the speed and the rpms went up to about 2000rpms, the engine seemed to slip into neutral. I stepped on the gas but the truck would not accelerate, it was just coasting. I pulled over to the side of the road and came to a stop, but didn't shut off the engine.
After a few seconds, I proceeded to give it some gas, and it engaged in gear and accelerated...until I got to about 25mph & rpms increased to about 2000 again. It did the same exact thing....seemed to shift back to neutral so that I could not accelerate. I had to keep pulling over to come to a stop, and then slowly proceed again. I wasn't too far from home & I made it. What this issue could be?
I just bought a 98 f150 about a month ago from someone. The guy i bought it from said the tranny had been rebuilt about 4 months prior and i have the invoice proving it. I have lately noticed a hard shift from first to second gear, all other gears shift perfectly, but on my way from work toady the tranny seemed to slightly slip out of gear(in other words the rpms didn't shoot up, just loss of power) when accelerating from a stop light, and then it seemed to catch and started shifting ok. my question is given these symptoms is it possible that i can make this tranny last a little while longer or is it about to quit? any possible causes?
View 4 RepliesI have an 03 f150 supercrew that had a 4.6L. I am installing a 3.9 Cummins diesel. I will have a separately mounted transmission cooler. I'm using the stock radiator as these engines run cool. It has a transmission cooler built into it. If i just leave the fitting loose, will it cause me any problems. It is a plastic can on each end and i suppose it to have contact with the radiator passages.
View 7 RepliesI just had my tranny rebuilt it doesn't shift hard all the time but it does from time to time going from 2nd -3rd and 3rd -4th I thought being new it may need to soak up some fluid so the bands can swell so I ask the shop that rebuilt it that question he said they soaked them as they rebuilt it so they should be swollen already then he proceeded to tell me it was electrical is he telling me the truth because the ck engine light isn't showing any faults and if it was electric shouldn't that have been fixed in the shop while it was being rebuilt if it was interior electronic?

My car seems to have some life in the tranny still but it has slipped from 3rd to 4th gear around 45 mph when i get on the gas too hard. Its also a little sluggish to start off. My question is should i change the fluid out knowing i have a slipping issue? The reason i ask is that last time i changed the fluid and filter on a Jeep that was slipping i ended up having to rebuid it. Is that a real possibility if i change the fluid in this Hyundai?
View 3 RepliesI have a Suzuki forenza - whoops! Anyway it is a 2007 automatic with about 25K miles. It started doing the following: while driving it will seem to slip into neutral and rev. For example, driving on the freeway at 65 mph; foot slightly on the gas it seemed to literally jump out of gear and the rpm shot up for a few seconds and then jumped back into gear. It also some times seems to clunk into reverse when backing up and occasionally seems to be in a lower gear than necessary when driving - revving while staying in gear - literally like it is in a lower gear than necessary. It has a 7 year/100,000 mile power train warranty. I took it to the dealer and they said they needed to replicate these things themselves before they could do anything about it. They would not just take my word. The service manager also said that it could be the computer system as opposed to the transmission itself.
View 1 RepliesTook vehicle in for two things last week and they said both were normal for the vehicle.
1. Sunroof rattles. I can physically push up on the sunroof and feel a little play in it. It doesn't leak or anything, but does rattle on certain roads. Dealer say it's tightened to standards and within normal expected specs for the age of the vehicle (2007), but after feeling the sunroof in my other car that has no play in it whatsoever, I'm a little skeptical.
2. Under certain conditions, the tranny seems to slip/pause and then grab a gear. It happens on off-ramps usually. I let off the gas to slow down and the give it gas to carry me through the off-ramp. It feels like a clunk or the tranny slipping trying to find a gear and then it finds one and noticably clunks in. Dealer hooked up a computer to it and it says it's operating noramlly and the clunk is just a product of the way I drive and the electronic shifting computer. I've had my drive shaft replaced thinking this was the problem, but it's still there.
