I have an 08 s-crew and latley the gas gauge doesnt seem to read correctly some times. Once waiting for the wife to get in and the low fuel alarm chimed and the gauge read empty. I just filled the tank. What could cause this?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2004 Nissan 350Z. During the first few years of the car, I always had a gas gauge that read correctly. Then, I had a recall notice about the gas tank. I took it in and got the part fixed. Now, my gas gauge does not read correctly. It rarely shows that it is full. In fact it looks like the needle "floats" up and down when I have driven it and used some of the gas.
Another thing I noticed is if the tank reads below 1/2 a tank and I go in to fill the tank, then start the car up, it looks like the needle just "sticks" and then jumps to almost full. I have put in some gas cleaners to see if that would work and it does a little but two things I would like to know:
If I decide to get this fixed, what is it that I should call this problem? When I mention it to the mechanics, they always act like I am nuts or they have never heard of this problem.
I have an 04 5.4L SCREW Erratic Speedometer.
Most of the time it works, some of the time it bounces or doesn't read at all.
I took my son's 2008 Honda Civic Coupe in for an oil change at a local third party shop today. While there, I was persuaded to let the mechanics carry out a fuel injection service. On driving home I noticed that the digital speedometer no longer read correctly. It now reads about 20 mph over. This is particularly noticeable as the vehicle slows down. I saw that the mechanics were having trouble connecting into the fuel system. They were working in an area behind the air filter, and just in front of the instrument cluster. I believe that they may have disturbed a cable or something in that area, which has caused the problem.
View 2 RepliesAbout 90% of the time, my gas gauge on my 2005 Impala works just fine. However, sometimes on hot afternoons it has problems & it doesn't read accurately. For example, I will have a nearly full tank & the gauge will show 1/4 to 1/2 full, depending on its "mood". If I drive the car somewhere & turn it off, everything is fine after I re-start it. I have to drive it somewhere though. If I start it, turn it off right away, and re-start it, it still reads inaccurately. The car runs fine & there no warning lights are lit on the dash.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2004 F150 XLT 5.4 L 79,000 miles. Yesterday i was driving home turned a corner and the low fuel light came on and the fuel gauge is well below empty. I had approx 1/2 tank of fuel when it happened. I have since filled tank all the way but the gauge will not move and low fuel light stays on. Everything else is working fine! I have never run the truck low enough on fuel to make the dummy light come on.....
View 5 RepliesI have a 2007 Sante Fe with the 3.3 engine. Having a problem with the Fuel gauge not reading correctly and a check engine light. The engine code indicated that the problem was with the sending unit in the tank on the "A" side (behind the driver). I checked with Hyundai and with a tech line service and they indicated that it was a common problem and I needed to replace both the "A" & "B" units to correct the problem. I did that and cleared the codes and it set another code indicating that the "B" unit was the source of the code. I pulled the "B" unit again and checked the wiring and the problem still was there. I switched out the units on the "B" side again with the old unit and the problem is still there.
View 4 RepliesI recently bought a 2005 Ford F250 Super Duty, diesel 6.0.
As I was driving to work this morning I noticed that the fuel gauge read almost full when it should have only had a half tank. A little while later I heard a beep and saw that the gauge was now on empty with a "Low Fuel" message displayed. Then I noticed the heater was suddenly blowing cold air.
I've only had the truck for a few weeks, but haven't had any other problems. I did replace the CD receiver and all of the instrument cluster lights a couple weeks ago, but everything seemed to be working fine after.
Just bought a 04 f150 crewcab 4x4 and the fuel gauge doesn't work.
View 8 RepliesYesterday my fuel gauge stopped working it is pegged all the way to the left. I filled up the truck no change. Got home and my garage door opener would not work and when sitting in car the map lights wont come on, the overhead lights work when you open the door. Cannot find any reference to what fuse any those items are connected to. is there a fuse for the fuel gauge?

View 1 RepliesI had a fuel sender failure a couple of weeks ago. 60k mi.
Basically: freeway driving, fuel gauge read 1/8 tank remaining, computer indicated "10 miles till empty" but the car ran out of gas. Fuel sender, in the fuel tank turned out to be the malfunction.
Towed to the dealer...they had never, ever seen this before.
I get the car back next week, just want to bookmark this thread in case any members (God forbid) have this problem now or in the future.
I still have faith in my Lexus, but want to share as this failure was very unusual.
I have a 2007 F150 XLT with 150K Km. Recently the fuel gauge rises slowly ( 2 start up or 40 minutes of driving ) to the full mark after fill up. The truck is always fueled with Cheveron "regular" gas. What could be the problems ... float, sensor, fuel gauge? and how to check them?
View 13 RepliesI have a 2009 Prius. Yesterday, I had a very strange (to me) thing happen. My gas gauge read all notches, full. As expected, it went down a notch at about 120 miles.
I sat in a parking lot for a bit with the car in ready, running, and park. I noticed that whenever the car would switch to using gas, the gas gauge would change. It would suddenly show all notches again, instead of missing one.
When it would switch back to battery, the notch would move down again.
It eventually moved down 2 notches (which is probably accurate since I was sitting for about 30 minutes) and then would jump back up to full when it switched to gas again.
I have a 2001 F150 Supercrew (5.4 V8, 2WD,Auto trans) and recently when we fill the gas tank, the fuel tank doesn't go all the way up to the "full" line. Don't know if this matters but: about a year 1/2 ago in a little town (while on vacation), we broke down and the trouble was the fuel pump. The little town did have a small auto-parts store, and luckily had the fuel pump we needed. Unfortunately we didn't have much as far as tools and we wound up tearing/cutting the filler hose and the vent line.
The little auto store did not have the correct rubber filler & vent hoses for my truck and would take a few days get in stock. We changed out the entire fuel pump and sender unit, and were able to modify some rubber hoses for a new filler & vent line hose. Everything worked great for a year 1/2 but in the last few weeks we have noticed that when we fill the tank, the gas gauge does not go all the way up to the "F" line to show full. With the price of gas, it is important to know exactly how much is really in the tank. Also, is there a battery in the ceiling console for the temperature and compass? Ours just stopped working yesterday.
I have a 2005 v6 ford mustang with 134,300 miles on it. About three weeks ago the fuel gauge started to misread and now it doesn't move at all and it dose have gas. Two days ago the check light came on so I connected to to a code scanner and it gave me the code P0460. Under the code it gave a short discretion, (Fuel level sensor A circuit). What issue might be?
View 3 RepliesSo my truck felt gutless somtimes, wouldn't start Every couple days , and Fuel gauge stops at half tank won't show full, so I went n bought a new fuel pump..... Well shoot nothing changed . I guess my next move is pull the dash off n fix gauge? It used to be a reliable truck . Now Im not comfortable to let wife drive it . I also pulled the chip to see if that had to do with not starting, also theft light blinks normal. I'm going to get some connector grease n redo all of my wires to c if there's just connection issues.
View 6 RepliesStarted as I was warming up the truck,a slight vibration/shudder. First thing that came to mind was F150. Torqued words of wisdom that it might come back, I had a p0301 before. Had no CEL, so decided to drive it to see if it got worse. Turned onto the main road and on came the CEL. Pulled into my FORD dealer, told him about my problem. Code P0308 misfire on #8cylinder was the read out, COP was done and the plug. 40 min of labor. She's even quieter than when #1 got changed.
View 3 RepliesI drive a 1989 Toyota Camry LE with a V6 Engine. When I fill my gas tank, start the car, the fuel gauge pointer doesn't go completely into the "F" mark, see picture; I'll even wait after driving a few miles if the pointer will try to go past the "F" mark, but it won't. Could it be the gauge be faulty or the sending unit in the gas tank that's causing the gauge to read inaccurately?

View 5 RepliesI changed the sending unit and replace the oil filter with a motorcraft unit and still can't get the oil gauge to read pressure. Since it is a gear oil pump I don't believe it is the pump.
