Towing with my 07 F150. I now have a noise all of a sudden. I worry that is the rear end going out. As I accelerate normal from a stop, I , for one feel bump-clunk sensation, as if I have a bad u joint. 2nd I now have a "whip whip whip" whirring sound, sound character speeds up as I speed up.
I hope the sound is the brakes, because I know they are getting down to the end of their life.
I'm still getting used to my prius and hybrids in general so there are a few things that I still don't know about them. But what what makes that cool whirring sound you hear when accelerate from a stop or coast? It's got a cool scientific buzz.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2009 f 150 two wheel drive and after reading and doing a little research I found my problem. Slip yoke same as alot of guys here,come to a stop clunk,take off clunk. My question is my warranty ran out,I had a 30,000 or three year and now I have 31,000 plus it's like the truck new when the warranty ran out. There is a TSB on it,10-22-6 NOV 10 Drivetrain - Driveshaft Slip/Bump On Accel. Or Braking... Will they do any thing for me,and how much would it cost me to have the work done at a shop.

I am going to pull the rear driveshaft and put in new grease MERCURY MARINE GREASE with TEFLON (2-4-c ) part nbr 92-802863A . How much do I need, will 8 ounces be enough.
View 3 RepliesEver since my last oil change, I've been having this low whirring or moaning sound at slow speeds (below 30mph). Switching the dial from 2WD to AWD, the moaning noise increases as if it engaging AWD; then it decreases. When switching back to 2WD, the sound doesn't go away. Other times, I don't hear this moaning sound and I hear/feel a very slight clunk.
It's like my truck is always in AWD and won't disengage. When I took the truck to the dealer, the service manager was with me and heard this noise, but when the 4x4 tech drove it, of course it acted perfect. Apparently, they had engaged/disengaged the AWD/2WD so many times that the 2WD/4WD appeared to work. The guy said, oh what you're hearing is normal, lets get back to the shop. My mileage is also dropping - another indicator being in AWD.
The dash panel always shows the electronic shift as successful. I know it engages while I'm driving because I sometimes hear/feel a slight clunk and then the roaring as if I'm in 4WD.

My friend has a clunk/lag on take off from a dead stop only. Drives fine down the road, but when taking off from a complete stop, you step on the gas, and nothing happens for a second, feels like it lags, then clunks, gives a jerk, and takes off.
From talking to other newer Ford owners, seems like a common problem.
I've had my truck start making a nice CLUNK from the vicinity of the rear axle when starting moving from a standstill. (and it's a pretty decent thunk sometimes, you hear it AND feel it). I called and made an appt to bring it in and have it checked out (also having the first oil change done and gonna see if they can figure out why the automatic headlights are almost always on even on a bright sunny day) ...
View 14 RepliesAs I said when I take off from a dead stop I can feel a clunk or a bump that feels like it is coming from the rear wheels. I can feel it more than I can hear it, although I can hear it a little. It is difficult to describe this. It is only for a second and kinda feels like the rear wheels have no traction then it bumps and takes off. If I ease into the accelerator I can avoid it, but I don't have to hit it real hard at all to get it to do it. I am sure it is not u-joints as I put a brand new drive shaft from driveshaft specialist on in the spring.
View 3 RepliesLast winter I had a moaning sound in my front end when slowing down to a stop when the temps were around the freezing mark. When it would happen, sometimes i would engage the 4WD and it would go away, and come right back when disengaging the 4WD. I took it to my dealer and Ford's procedure was to re-pack the front wheel bearings. When I got the truck back the weather warmed up and the moaning didn't come back. When this winter started and the cold weather came back, so did the moaning in the front end when slowing to a stop.
I took it back to my dealer again, and this time they checked what I suspected all along, the IWE's for the 4WD (the integrated wheel ends). the seals were cracked, letting moisture and rust formation inside of them. After the IWE replacement, the moaning noise went away. My research has found that this problem goes back to around 2004 on up. If has these symptoms with the 4WD truck in the cold weather, have your mechanic check out the Integrated Wheel Ends. By the way, my oldest son is the Ford tech that performed the repair on my truck, so it was in his best interest that my truck was fixed .
I've been having a wierd whirring sound when I accelerate for the last 1000 miles or so. I have about 19k miles on my 20007 Azera Limited. As a driver, I do have a somewhat heavy foot so I worry that I tax the engine/transmission too much. What it could be?

I recently went over a speed bump in the road and the car made an awful clunk sound sort of like the strut reached the end of its length reach. The car continued to make this klunk sound when I'd go over smaller bumps just not as loud. What this could be and how to remedy it?

View 11 RepliesIf the selector switch is in 2WD, should the front wheels spin freely if they are off the ground? In other words, should I be able to spin the wheels and they have at least one revolution from the force of the spin?
The reason I ask is that I'm hearing a "whirring" noise at slow speeds in 2WD. When switching to AWD mode, the whirring gets louder. I don't hear the normal clunk/click while it engages/disengages. I suspect, the hubs are engaged somehow.
I jacked up the front end so the front wheels were off the ground. Neither will spin (even allowing for slight friction from the brake pads). To make the front wheels rotate, I have to put a lot of force and there is a lot of resistance. My gas mileage is also dropping.
When coming to a hard stop and downshifting using engine braking, is it normal to have the brake pedal feel like it loses pressure to where the brake pedal pushes down further towards the floor for a split second? What causes that to occur?
View 10 RepliesA couple months back I purchased a 2010 F150 XL with the 4.6 2V engine. It has about 112,500 miles on it as of today. The problem I am seeing is in the trans. Normally around town there is no issue other than it seems to shift from 1st to 2nd kinda quickly. That is of course you get on it harder, and then no issue at all. The real issue comes after driving for more than 30 to 40 mins. My wife and I took a little day trip that required about 45 mins of highway driving. The truck performed perfectly. Cruising at 75 to 80 there was no issue at all. When we reached our destination it was more stop and go type driving.
It was then I noticed that when pulling away from a light the trans was not shifting from 1st to 2nd smoothly, but rather with a jerk, or bump. Not horrible, but definitely noticeable. Again if I really put my foot in it it did not do it. All other shifts seem fine just 1st to 2nd. The trans temp gauge was steady in the normal range, and this was on a pretty hot day, in the 80s. Since I bought the truck used I cannot say with any certainty what servicing it has had, but judging from the condition it is in I would guess it was well taken care of.
I have a 2006 Sonata LX with 91,000 ,miles and today it starting making a clunk sound when I would accelerate normally as it was going from 2nd to 3rd gear. My question is this: I have 91,000 miles on it and have owned since new in 2005 (8 years). Does it sound like a transmission problem and would a transmission problem be covered under the 10 year, 100,000 miles warranty?
View 4 RepliesWe just bought a 2010 F150 SCrew XLT 5.4L 4x4 92k miles on Thursday. I noticed Friday night when stopping at the bottom of a small hill there was a clunk as it down shifted into 1st right as I stopped. This is just down the road from our house. Saturday night same deal except when I went to accelerate the Tranny seemed to be slipping, engine reved up but no go. Let off pedal and reapplied foot to pedal, truck drove no problem.
View 6 RepliesWhen making turns and occasionally during slowing and accelerating, a klunk or pop sound comes from the front of the vehicle. It is a F-150 STX 2011 2WD shortbed with 16,000 miles. Engine is 5.0 with 6 speed auto. Previos owner had (before returning to stock) put a lowering kit in, headers back exhaust, intake, tuner, etc. Truck is butchered a bit from pos previous owner. Front end components have all been checked, bolts torqued. Even the cab mounts have been checked. The only thing that can be seen that might contribute is the cat crossover supports have been hacked off.

The truck makes a clunk whenever you start to move from a dead stop ? go about 5 feet and it runs great? my 07 fx4 has 247,000 miles and still doesn't make any noises, the 10 has 75,000 miles on it ford maintenance oil changes and trans flush, am going to have mech look at it, anyone think of possible items to zero in on? it has the 6 1/2 ft bed with 2 pc driveshaft ...

View 3 RepliesMy 2002 F-150 with the 5.4 has an issue with a high rev (1000 RPM for a few seconds) while at a stop sign, along with a clunking/banging sound coming from under the truck. This is when I have the brake mashed all the way, and this all happens at the same time, almost every time I come to a stop at a stop sign or light. I do have an intake manifold leak, which i have recently determined, but I do not know if the high rev at a stop sign has to do with the manifold leak or to do with the transmission sounding thump I hear. Could this be a torque converter not unlocking, and then suddenly unlocking? Because after the thump sound, the RPM's go down to around 650 from 1000 every time.
