I have an 04 F250, stock. Two times within the last week I have noticed whiteish smoke coming out of the tailpipe and a diesel smell. Could this be the glow plugs going out and not burning the fuel, I have not changed them since owning the truck or something else.

Its was 75 degree in Texas this morning, so what could that be? There is antifreeze in the reservoir and I recently changed the oil and there was no water in it.

Stopped and alot of smoke was coming from my brakes on my front passenger side but nothing from the front drivers side. Replaced all the brake pads on the front. What is making them so hot?
View 8 Replies2005 6.0l PSD. Driving flat road pulling 8K trailer. Not pushing it at all. Sudden air hissing sound on (seems like) passenger side of truck. Black smoke pouring from tailpipe. Check intercooler pipe and is ok. Can't see anything that is loose. Only 8 miles to the campground so limp down the road at 30 MPH which is all it will do. Hissing sound is remarkable predictable in that it is repetitive every 5 seconds or so. Lasts for maybe 2 seconds then stops the repeats.
There is no turbo boost either on the dash gauge or the Scan II gauge. Shutting the engine down, there is no turbo wind down. Scan II show no codes. Check everything I can reach and find nothing extraordinary. Tried starting a driving it today and had boost for a minute only then nothing. Blowing white smoke too. Check the oil and it is oil. Check the radiator fluid and it is oil free. Running low on fuel and wonder if I have a water in the fuel problem. However, don't think that should effect the non functioning turbo...
I bought a 2004 6.0L F-250 used a few weeks ago. There have been a few problems here and there that I have been competent enough to fix. I am now facing a problem of A: the truck not starting (I believe it was just a battery problem, charged and started fine). But also B: I have had a slightly frayed serpentine belt that I noticed a few days ago. After I got the truck running from my the no-start and driving it around the block I parked it and went inside. Came back out a few minutes later and I tried to start it. It hesitated a little bit but started with a loud whining noise and white smoke coming from the belt. Turned the engine off and saw on one of the bottom wheels (pulleys?) some residue that looked and smelled like burnt rubber. Is this just simply a need for a new belt?
View 5 RepliesI just replaced my up pipes, turbo pedestal O-ring, ICP, IPR, New O-rings in all my injectors and torqued to spec, new glow plugs, glow plug relay, oil loom wiring harness, new O-rings on oil cooler, oil filter, oil, and antifreeze. I have tried and tried on upwards of 50 or time to get it to turn over. A little white smoke came out and it sounded like it wanted to fire up, but only a few times. I have good batteries and a charger on it working along, 3-4 trys in 5-10 second burts or longer if it doesnt lose power every 30 -hr. oil is in HPOP too. 2001 F-350 7.3 auto 2wd 4dr longbed 329,611 ml..
View 8 RepliesI have a 1997 Mazda b4000 new plugs wires head gasket an I cleaned out the radiator. My question is the truck runs good but my heat quit workin what could it be all fuse look good. Also there is water coming out of my tailpipe with white smoke. Should I be concerned.
View 2 RepliesToday I drove to dinner in my 2012 6.7 with no problems then on the way home my brother said he noticed my truck was white smoking quite a bit and he said there was a very strong exhaust smell coming from my truck ( he was in his car behind me) I ran a diagnostic test and what came up was code P0401 (I believe that's right). Need to figure out what is going on with my truck before I take it to the mechanics and get charged up. The truck still has DPFs in it just has a DPF back exhaust and has a AFE cold air intake running on a stock tune. However I do have the DPF deletes and EGR delete sitting in my garage just haven't gotten them on the truck yet.
View 2 RepliesEvery 2-3 days, intermittently-there is white smoke coming from the tailpipe of my car. The car seems to be sputtering, like it wants to cough, plus there is vibration in the steering wheel. All this happens while the car is idle like at a light. Then on other occassion, I am driving on the freeway and the car seems to sputter even at 45-65 mph, then it just smooths out. No problem.
Today, I was in the parking lot, there was no smoke but some sputtering when I shifted from park to drive. I drive 30-40 minutes to get to work and very afraid my car is going to breakdown. Also, I took my car to Toyota dealership and was told they could not tell me what was wrong with my car and to bring it back when to problem occurs again. I have pretty much "babied" my car, so I guess my car is beginning to reach middle age.

I have a 2004 F250 with 180K miles on it. About a year ago my truck would smoke pretty bad so I got on here and found I needed to take my FICM off and do some touch up soldering on it in a few places. Did that and everything has been fine until this past weekend when I noticed a little bit of whiteish smoke. Could it be the FICM again or something else. still have power and all gauges are normal. What to check next. Also, I do not have a scangauge, just the stock gauges.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2008 Ford 250 diesel that is pouring out white smoke from the exhaust when it goes into "cleaning filter" mode. I really don't understand this because I have a dpf delete with a sct tuner. I thought with the tuner and delete the truck wouldn't go into filter cleaning mode. I contacted Ford and they said it was normal for white smoke to come from the exhaust during this process. What's going on maybe tuner is bad?
View 5 RepliesMy truck is a 2005 6.0 with no after mods and has 73000 miles on it. It began to blow white smoke out exhaust. I changed out the egr valve and cooler. After putting back together it then blew white smoke ran it to clear out. This worked however once it warmed up it began to blow thick white smoke at 20 mph and clears up by the time it reached 30mph and white smoke shoots out at rapid acceleration. As well there is coolant leaking out under the truck from somewhere in the motor about in the center. I am looking to work on this myself as I have heard of owners taking it to shops and paying a lot of money for the prob to not get fixed.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2002 f250 powerstroke 7.3, while driving it smokes pure white smoke and feels like its loading up and will start shaking if I floor it, it will rev slowly popping like its loaded up then cleans out runs good for a 1/4 mile than same thing. My temp gauge stopped working and it just seemed to get worse. Stuck it on a scanner and it didn't have any codes but was saying the engine temp was -211f. I got a new sending unit didin't fix any of the problems.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2006 f350 6.0l. I was driving home from work and all of a sudden I had no gas pedal. It would stumble and die with a bunch of white smoke out the tail. It also is not using the turbo at all no boost. I have a edge monitor and the engine codes it's kicking out are in the picture below. I have a warranty but the dealership that we bought it from and the closet ford dealer is 30-40 mins away and they don't currently have a diesel mechanic to work on it so I would have to go almost 1hr 20 mins to get to the next dealer. Will it hurt it to drive it that far?
View 2 RepliesThe last couple weeks my excursion had started to have a stumble and smoke white ate the first startup or after I let it sit for a long time. I did get progressively worse. I noticed the hpop line to the driver side head was leaking from the fitting so I rebuilt the boss fitting and now it's not leaking but when I started it up this morning it did the same thing.
If I give it throttle it clears up pretty quickly but if I let it just idle it will put white for probably 5 minutes. I have no codes showing when I looked with the scanner I don't see any other oil leaks and I don't smell a fuel leak.
Recently have had a sct live wire extreme on my truck and ever since put it back to stock put the dpf back on its been blowing white smoke got a p2452 and p1335 code but when you turn the tuner back on and turn the dpf off no more white smoke and no codes ? What could be causing this? beyond confused ?? (the reason I took the tuner off is cuz I am sell the truck and the dealership wants it stock),
View 3 RepliesDuring the winter, the truck would always start very hard. When it was trying to start it would pump out some white smoke. Now during the summer the truck will still start hard. At one point during the winter we were getting glow plug codes, now these have gone away that its warm. We did replace the glow plug control module, but that did not solve the hard start during the winter. We figured that there was a bad glow plug which is sorting out the rest. So we then figured the hard start issue would go away with the warmer weather but it has not.
View 3 RepliesJust bought a 02 f-250 7.3 with 115k miles. A couple days after I bought it I noticed a lot of white smoke on cold starts for about 20-30 sec at 50 degree temperature. So I tested the GPR which ended up being bad a replaced with the one that is double in size(name escapes me atm) and also did the 50 cent mod to keep the through-valve cover harness from losing connection since both sides were lose.
After that the temp warmed back up and it would only blow a "puff" of white smoke. The past two days it has gotten down to 30-32 and the truck has a rough time starting. Cranks fine but it's almost like it's getting choked or flooded then it will blow smoke for 3-4 minutes after it starts. The truck does have a FASS fuel system on it with stock injectors. Should I try to Ohm out the glow plugs again or where should I start trouble shooting?
I just recently purchased my 06 Ford F-250 it's got the 6.0 in it once I made a 6hr trip I've noticed once you warm it up and ride a little bit kill it let set for 30min or better and crank it up it blows white smoke for a min or two than on the way to work this morning my heater.

View 3 RepliesI have a 2004 passat 1.8t which currently blows heavy white smoke from the tailpipe; coolant in oil and vise versa; when I open the oil fill cap / dipstick white smoke blows from there also. At first I thought it was the head gasket so I replaced it and resurfaced the head. What i noticed was burned oil on the sides inside the head. After putting everything together the smoke never quit blowing and after couple of hours the fluids mixed again. After reading the forums I took off the oil cooler and tested it by submerging it under water and hooking compressed air to the water lines -- no bubbles came out of the sides. Maybe I tested it wrong while the it is the oil cooler all along? Could it be cracked head? block?
