Any hows I have a 08 186,000 miles with a 6.4 , my problem is it is dumping coolant out of the reservoir. local dealer has got me for $4000,00 as of today and has not fixed truck yet. Here is whats been done. New radiator cap , new radiator, new egr cooler . when I test drove it today still did same thing. only does this with my gooseneck hooked to it.
View 14 RepliesI just purchased a 2007 Ford F250 5.4l V8. I noticed the coolant reservoir was a bit low so I went out and bought some Prestone extended life universal coolant, distilled water and a hydrometer. The current Coolant I have is a yellow/gold colour, which I believe is motocraft brand. I added 150ml 1:1 of distilled water and coolant. After that I tested the temperature rating and it was off the gauge (the previous owner obviously added just coolant and no water). My plan was to drain the radiator half way and refill with distilled water. But, how to do that I came across a lot of forums saying you can't mix Prestone ELT with Motocraft coolant or it will eat away at your engine as well as create a thick goo. Is this true? Will such a small amount (75ml) cause this effect? Do I have to do a radiator flush now, or can I just continue with my plan of draining it half way? The old coolant looked pretty clean. Do you think the Prestone anti freeze has already done any damage?
View 14 Replies02 v10 SD. I found a crack in the coolant tank on my 02 Superduty. It is below the radiator cap, just above the crack where it was sealed from the factory. It runs the length of the tank, about 2 and 1/2 inches, across the front top section. Its starting to seep through,but the radiator is still holding pressure. Have any of you with the older Superduty's had this happen to your trucks? What caused or is causing it. I called the Ford dealer tonight about a new one.
View 14 RepliesI am new to fords i have an 06 f250 6.0 lariat i just replaced head gaskets and studded the heads with egr delete with new oil cooler ..my issue is now the truck wont start it trys but wont run and i have coolant spitting out from reservoir and its smoking from it as well. I really don't want to have to spend the money on a shop to rebuild it...
View 6 RepliesHaving problem with wastegate leaking or dumping by itself or if it is another issue. My buddy has a 7.3 powerstroke dp tuner banks intake and exhaust. Tranny was just rebuilt after he received his truck back. It seemed to start blowing off really fast while under acceleration u could hear a leak and really would bad flutter after the hard shift! We where thinking waste gate the entire time so he order a banks big head yesterday!
View 10 RepliesMy 2000 Accent with 164,000km is not overheating but is dumping coolant into the reservoir so that the radiator is about a quart low. I did have a few problems with it overheating in the past month, but that was solved by thermostat removal (always above 80F here). I stopped before the overheats reached the redline and allowed the engine to cool before continuing, no known adverse performance during the overheats. No water in oil.
Failed troubleshooting:
Drained and replaced coolant x3
New radiator cap
* No thermostat.
I have a 2008 6.4 f-250. It has 139,00 Miles and I have a problem with the truck losing coolant and overheating on the interstate. When cruising 75-80 my truck will sometimes begin to puke coolant from the degas bottle and my cooling fan will begin to run. Engine coolant temp once spiked to 240 degrees before I could get off onto the shoulder. Around town the truck does fine although I do notice a loss of coolant but no overheating issues what so ever. I have the Dpf Deleted and Egr coolers are off. I run an H+S on a mild tune. Is there any other thing that could be wrong with this truck besides head gaskets? I am not looking forward flipping that bill. Trying the exhaust all other possibilities first.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to troubleshoot a leak on my 08' F250 with a 6.4 powerstroke. It's been dripping coolant when cold pretty aggressively. Once the truck heats up, the coolant leak seems to mostly go away.
Here's a picture of the drip, it's marked by a dart, so you can see the location from the top (second pic). The radiator house connection around the engine seems dry.

What's hidden here that could be causing the leak?
Is it necessary to remove say about one and one half cups of oil from the HPOP reservoir when changing oil? I say not needed.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2004 F250 with 5.4 Triton engine. It stalls when tapping on Power steering reservoir! This is the oddest thing I've ever seen! I did not get time to look into it today but will sure do so tomorrow.
View 2 RepliesI bought this truck used several months back and have ran it extremely hard. It's supposedly studded and EGR deleted. The whole engine was replaced at 183,xxx by some diesel place. Anyways, while I was driving I smelled coolant and thought that was funny so I ignored it. Anyways, My livewire tuner started seeing a coolant and engine oil increase. I figured I'd go ahead and drive it home. It got to 153 F* and the coolant was around 129 F* The oil cooler has been clogging up and I just got my brand new Ford one in.
So that will be replaced sooner rather than later. When I got home, I checked the coolant level and there was nothing in it!! It was pretty much empty. So I put the water hose on it and turned the water on and after about 2 mins steam started coming out near the turbo. I mean a crapload of steam. I turned the water on again and saw that it was coming out right next to the EGR delete. It's hard to tell exactly but looks like the intake manifold??? What could it be? It's not the hose for the EGR. The degas bottle has never overflowed, there's no white smoke except on cold starts in really cold temps.
I bought the truck today (cheap) know it had this issue, oil in coolant no coolant in oil, ATF was not apparent on dip stick I'm told truck over heats.

My temp gauge stays right in the middle like normal. When I got home tonight I opened the hood and didn't see nothing major. I took a picture .....
View 8 RepliesI got my 1999 f250 super duty v10 about a month ago. It had 200,700 some miles on it. It's now at 201,865. My issue is when I turn on my heater I smell coolant. It's kinda strong. No leaks that I can see. Not in the ground or in the cab or from what I can see of the heater core. It only smells when the heat is on, no smell on the cold setting. It sat for months before I bought it from a dealership. What it could be? Ok now it sounds like I have the ticking death sound. The one people have said happens when spark plugs are about to fail. So I guess new plugs are in order.
View 8 RepliesI read a lot here about the best antifreeze coolant. If the truck will never, and I mean never, be exposed to freezing temperatures, do I need antifreeze? Our lowest ever temperature was 66 degrees or so.
What should we use? I have a 2004 550.
Alright, after finally fixing my 4X4 issues, now I have a coolant leak. It's on the passenger side, just above the exhaust downpipe. I can't find any leaks in the hoses, and as far as I can see it looks like it's coming out of the back of the head and running down the back of the block. The odd thing is there's no oil in it, and no coolant in my oil (which obviously is a good thing), but I don't want it to get to that point of it is getting worse. Heat works fine, and it isn't overheating, only losing maybe a gallon a month. At some point the ford gold stuff was flushed and it has the compatible green, that is the only thing I can tell is not stock. I don't want to tear it down if I don't absolutely have to.
View 7 RepliesAbout a week ago I began smelling coolant after driving my 2012 F350 6.7. Yesterday I noticed a small amount of coolant on the ground and decided to take it to the dealer. As soon as I told the Service Manager what was going on he said......"You need to leave it......there is no doubt in my mind it needs a radiator". They pressure tested and and sure enough it does. He said they are replacing about 2-3 a month but there is no recall.
Here is where it gets fun. Apparently radiators fall off at 36,000 miles and are not included in the 100,000 Power Train Warranty. It gets better. The Radiator is on national back order for 5-6 weeks.
Looking for a wiring diagram for the coolant temp sensor? 1999 F250 SD V10....
