Golf/GTI VI :: 2012 - Suspension Clunk At All Speeds In A Straight Line After Lowering

Apr 18, 2012

Alright cliff notes are lowered my 2012 GTI on Eibach Pro Kit springs and Koni Yellows (adjustable) as a DIY driveway job and at first were OK, but 2 weeks later are clunking to the point where it sounds like its going to fall on the ground. Any road imperfection makes it clunk (from the front only).

-Clunks all the time, slow, fast, turns, straight, large or small bumps. Doesn't clunk with dips...
-Gets better when its hot outside (>70 degrees),

Camry :: Rear Suspension Clunk Noise After Lowering Springs Installed

After having lowering springs installed, I've been noticing a clunk noise in the rear suspension when driving over dips in the road (eg. getting out of the parking lot onto the main road). It feels like having your wheels lifted in mid-air and being dropped onto the road.

Touareg :: 2000 Air Suspension - Auto Lowering At High Speeds?

I just did a 2000 mile round trip in my treg...what an awesome highway vehicle. The air suspension is supposed to lower at speeds over 76 mph I believe. I was running at 85 to 90 most of the time. Any indication of the lowering in the display? I really couldn't tell if it was happening or not. Does it lower in all suspension modes, i.e comfort, auto etc? It didn't seem to raise upon slowing.

Mazda - Mazda6 :: 2007 - Clunk In Right Rear Suspension At Low Speeds

Have an 07 Mazda6 with 110k miles. It developed a clunk in the right rear suspension about 6 months ago. Constant clunk at low speeds, whether small bumps, snow-covered roads, etc. Been to five different mechanics with no luck.

So far, the rear shocks have been replaced; made no difference. Stabilizer bar and end links were removed from car and driven carefully around the parking lot; no difference. New control arm lateral links installed; no difference. Top shock mount plate is tight, and rear coil springs removed and inspected during that process; no difference. No brake pad retaining pins are missing.

When I sit in the back of the car with the seats down, the sound seems to come from the top of the shock mounting area, but perhaps the noise is just traveling up through that area of the car.

Could it be a bad lower control arm bushing? Each mechanic checks them with a bar and reports little play. But I don't know where to go next. Car drives fine, but the noise is maddening.

Camry 2012+ :: 2013 SE - Steering Clunk / Knocking Noise At Slow Speeds

I have a '13 SE that I purchased new last year and recently I've noticed a noise in my steering when I am turning the wheel at slow speeds.

It's like a clunking or knocking noise when I turn the wheel either right or left all the way. I'm totally clueless as to what could cause this sort of noises.

Golf/GTI VI :: Suspension Clunk After VWR Spring Install

I just had a set of VWR springs installed on my 2011 GTI (35,xxx).

I've noticed a very discernible clunk coming from the driver's side front wheel particularly when traveling over a dip in the road (when the spring and suspension is extending). The sound only comes from the one wheel well - the other three sound fine.

I'm bringing it in for an alignment tomorrow (recommend after the spring install). Sounds almost like a bad bushing?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Front End Clunk Almost Every Time When Suspension Flexes

So I've always had a clunk coming from the front end of my car since I bought it last year. It happens almost every time the suspension flexes. I'm pretty sure my steering is okay as I can turn the wheel quickly and/or forcefully back and forth with the car either on or off and there is no noise; the steering feels solid.

Here is the list of things I have done so far:

-Poly sway bar bushings
-Poly end link bushings
-Poly dog bone bushings
-Cup kit (Springs and shocks)Upper strut mounts & bearings
-Ball joints
-Raxles

After a quick look at my Bentley manual, it seems the only things left to do are control arm bushings (most likely in my mind) and sub frame bushings (less likely). Is there anything else I should check for possible causes that I'm missing?

Golf IV R32 :: Continuous Clunk From Front Suspension After Coil Install

I have a 24v gti, but this deals with the front suspension. I replaced my stock suspension with a set of coils and also my drivers side axle with a raxle. Even have new strut mounts, bearings and R32 rear control arm bushings.

When I drive slowly like coming out of the drive way I can hear a continuous clunk happening 1/2 second to 1 sec apart coming from the front suspension, but after I drive a min or 2 it goes away??

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Clunk In Passenger Side Front Suspension?

I've got a "clunk" in my front passenger side suspension. I'm running stock struts with H&R sport springs that I put in about 10,000-15,000kms ago. The clunk is inconsistent and seems to only happen in the parking lot when I'm backing out of a stall. When I pull forward, I get a couple clunks coming from that side? Could this be tie-rod?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Clunk From Left Front Wheel When Turning At Slow Speeds

I have a 2003 Jetta Wagon with 49000 miles on it. I noticed that when turning at slow speeds (like taking turns in a parking lot) I hear a klunk coming from the area of the left front wheel, and I think I feel it through the steering wheel. Yesterday I was going around a hairpin turn at a shopping mall and heard two clunks. Driving straight it doesn't happen.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Clunk In Steering Wheel While Driving Straight

I have a 2014 FX4 Ecoboost with 2K miles. While driving in a straight line on smooth roadway I feel a slight 'clunk' in the steering wheel. Feels a bit like slack or something. It only happens when the steering wheel is in perfectly neutral position ( straight up) with no turn to either side. Oddly I feel it more when I hold the steering wheel in the lower half as opposed to the upper side. Could it be 4X4 play or splines or loose something in chassis?

Prius (Gen 2) :: Controls Shimmy At High Speeds - Hard To Keep Straight On Highway

I've noticed that at speeds of 60+ (especially 65+), the Prius control doesn't seem "tight." I wouldn't go as far as saying it has a "shimmy" but it's harder to keep straight on the highway. I absolutely adore my Prius but this bothers me. I had the alignment checked and it's perfect. I know all small cars tend to be less grounded than, say, an SUV, but I'm still curious if this is normal before I take it into the dealer.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: 2012 - Lowering The Vehicle

I was looking to lower my 2012 Corolla after seeing torres 16 running 18x10 all around on his car. I fell in love with his Corolla and have been craving to do something similar. Now here's the flip side. I am absolutely clueless about the in-and-outs of stance work or being "slammed". I was thinking running 18x10 all around is a bit too much and was looking to run 18x9.5 Grids - if I could find them new. I'd like to sit "flush." What offset would be recommended? From what I saw on wheeldude, they only come in +20 or +38. Would this be possible on BC coilovers? I'd like to achieve a look similar to Jzen 16 or torres 16. Would I be better off running an air suspension setup? The downfall is they get ridiculously costly.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2002 AWD - Shaky Steering Wheel At All Speeds During Straight Driving More Than In Turns

Got an issues with my 02 Santa Fe. Shaky steering wheel at all speeds during straight driving more than in turns. 130k miles on the vehicle.

The tires are worn, and need replacing. No missing wheel weights that I saw. No issues with braking.

At slow speeds it feels like the front end is swaying back and forth. I am planning to have the tires replaced, but I feel that this is more than just the tires.

I suspect ball joints / tie rods are the culprit. Is there a good way to check these components from home verses going to a shop and having them diagnose the issue.

With ball joints / tie rods, I am confident that I can change them on my own.

Camry 2012+ :: 2015 - Pre-Collision System Is Malfunctioning After Lowering The Ride

About two months after I lowered my TCH I started getting a warning that my Pre-Collision System was malfunctioning.

I brought it into the dealer to have them investigate the issue, and after having my car for three days they said they couldn't find anything wrong with the system, and it's probably because I modified the ride height of my car.

The question that immediately came to mind was, why did it take two months for the error message to pop up? Why not right away? They didn't have an answer and just said, "If it's modified we can't do any warranty work, and can't say for sure what's causing the issue."

So I've adjusted the ride height back to stock and now I just need to take it back to the dealer to have them look at it again. If it really is the modified ride height, can i re-calibrate the sensors?

Phaeton :: Air Suspension Line Cut During Tire Rotation

While I was having my tires rotated yesterday, the last floorjack was being lowered just in front of my driver's side rear tire when there was a noticeable hissing sound. The outer lip of the plate on the floorjack caught on the line going to my front suspension and the front of the car went down.

I'm borrowing a picture that Michael posted earlier and hopefully I've labelled the correct items in the picture. His previous red arrows were for pointing out the oval holes in the bottom of the car that can get damaged in towing.

The owner of the shop that did it drove my car slowly to the VW dealer that was within a couple miles. I've allowed them to do a repair to the line that meets VW specs. Some type of male/female brass connection that will save several hundred dollars on the repair that the tire shop will be paying for.
I'm surprised that VW placed the air lines so close to one of the lift points.

Is it possible to cause damage to the air shocks when they are lowered all the way down like that? I'm hoping not. I figured it probably was better to drive the car to the dealership instead of risking any damage that could have been caused by putting it on a flatbed.
