Golf/GTI VI :: CEL Came On At Idle

I went with my friend to pick up his GTI today. (Black 4-door) After 68 miles the CEL came on, and the idle at a light i'll be all over 2000 then drops to 1500 then 1000. No other things noticed, we called the dealer they said to bring it by on Monday.

Once in a while, I notice that my TDI has a rough idle. It feels more like a shake in the seat than rough idle. But I don't know how else to describe it. This usually happens at warm up- after driving about 5-10 minutes.

Golf/GTI VI :: Vibration At Idle And In Neutral

So, I recently began noticing a weird vibration when I'm at idle and in neutral (with clutch pedal released), for example at a stop light.

It is a very low frequency shudder - as if someone was intermittently shaking their leg in the passenger seat, shimmying the car... It is not continuous, and not consistent. It often, but not always, occurs with a period of around 5-7 seconds, i.e. every 5-7 seconds it's like someone just shook their leg in the passenger seat.

I'm worried something may be wrong as I don't recall noticing this in the past, but then again, it's subtle enough i might have missed it. I'm at about 50 kmi on my 2010 Golf TDI.

Golf V R32 :: Revving At Higher RPM Than At Idle

My Dad's R32 is revving at a higher rpm than it should at idle. It happens randomly for about a minute and then goes away only to return later. He took it to the stealership, but they will not facilitate because they could not replicate the problem. I'm thinking it is some kind of vacuum leak.

Golf IV R32 :: Turbo Too Rich At Idle

I've been struggling with this issue for several months now and cant find the issue. My R32 is fully build 6767 turbo and all supporting mods, it has UM 870cc tune and a PRO Maf. Suddenly it started being too rich at idle, wont even start some times and when you press the gas it dies. When MAF is disconnected it will start but when pressing the gas it will die also. Fuel system is a twin 044 Bosch and OEM fuel pump with a FPR. Been trying with different fuel pressure but it doesn't change anything. What could it be the problem?

Golf/GTI VII :: Stumbling And Jerking When At Idle

Is this a sign of a turbo going out or ? my GTI currently has 1700 miles on it and not all the time, but in the past 1700 miles the car has stumbled or jerked around a bit when at idle, i.e. the rpm's don't do anything but it seems like it's misfiring or something a few times then generally clears out. Same when driving sometimes, cruising along and it seems to misfire or stumble around but it clears up as well. Haven't noticed anything else weird but it's annoying and worrisome.

Golf IV R32 :: Won't Idle Right - Cylinder Is Misfiring

The car already has a cel even though I just bought it. Drove home from work this morning had no problems, went to go shopping no problem, come out start my car and it won't idle right, problem. The Cel flashed at me and once driven a tiny bit stayed constant. Seems like a cylinder is misfiring because of the sound it makes and it is hesitant when you give it some gas. What could it be, coil packs (which is what is was in my 24v) MAF, spark plugs?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Vibration Going On At Idle

I drive a 12v VR6 and this morning the cars idle was very rough and different than normal, while at idle the engine vibrates a good amount but once I push on the gas the vibration goes away? Bad motor/ trans mounts? She also sounds a lot deeper now, is there anything I should be looking for? Doesn't sound like my chains are off or anything and just pulled the wires and cleaned out around the plugs, should I check the throttle body?

I recently installed the CTS Turbo Billet aluminum subframe stiffening kit. Now when the car is idling around 800 or so RPM (a little higher when A/C is running) there is a strong vibration in the cabin of the car. Once I rev it up to around 1,000 RPM the vibration is gone. Any solutions to lessen the vibrations?

Golf/GTI VI :: Whistle Noise At Idle?

I've been all over the place trying to get this pulley sounding noise figured out. the noise is definitely not the pulley, but is coming from that side, and from underneath the engined towards the back. this noise only occurs when car has been driven at least 30 minutes to an hour from first start of the day, but then continues the rest of the day. the noise also only occurs when I am coming to a stop or just rolling at a low idle, and then only lasts for about 30 seconds and goes always until i give it so gas and the noise comes back.

I know its sounds a lot like PVC, but i have had all that checked and actually pvc replaced. Took it to another VW dealer, and they charged me for diagnostics, and came up with it the noise was coming from somewhere in the clutch, and want to replace the whole clutch, that was just replaced by them 20,000 miles ago. You would think if was coming from the clutch it would make the noise at all times. Do you think it could be the clutch in any way?

Car won't hold an idle unless I'm on the gas, and even then it only goes to 500 rpm and the second I let off the gas it dies. It also will not go any past 500.

Golf V R32 :: Persistent Misfires At Idle

In the last few months, I've been having misfires at idle. I didn't realize at first what the vibration was, since I had cams installed over the summer and had my flywheel replaced a couple of weeks ago. I have replaced the plugs and coil packs and for a couple of days, it ran fine. Tonight, they started up again, mostly in a single cylinder. I swapped out coil packs - no change. Switched plugs between two cylinders - the misfire followed the plug. Swapped in an old plug - things improved, misfires went from 2-3 per second to maybe one every 5-10 seconds. Few to no misfires when revs go up. My battery is 5 years old, could that be an issue? Wire harnesses - do they go bad?

Golf/GTI VII :: Rough Idle And Shuts Down Sometimes

Symptoms:

- rough start-up, car shuts down

- backfire when releasing after WOT

- OBD-II codes (see below)

Okay so these issues started to appear only 1 day after I got tuned...

Problem History:

Day 1:

- car started mildly rough

- I got an EPC light on my dash 2 minutes after moving and for 2 seconds the car sounded like an STI (the sound you hear with a misfire)

- I turned it off and on, EPC gone car started up normally

- took it straight to dealer, they checked coils and plugs and said that it's a tune issue.

- went to take it back from the dealer and that was the first time the car shutdown immediately after start-up. it started at second attempt with a quite long ignition sound and the STI-like sound briefly once again.

Day 2:

- I went to my friend and we pulled the codes from OBD-II and only got the P0420 00 [175] - Efficiency Below Threshold code only (as the dealer probably erased any other code related to my EPC light)

- we deleted the code and drove around

- every time we turn the car off and on. The car starts up mildly rough and the code comes back up

Every 2 days or so:

- the car would require 2 attempts to start but no EPC light coming up.

Day 4:

- I had a night of possibly 6 WOTs to test the cars performance, and it was performing great. didn't feel any loss in power or anything. (was friendly racing my friends modded 135i with very impressive outcomes)

- car backfires after i release the gas pedal at WOT (not with every WOT but 2 out of 6 runs it backfired)

- After the last WOT i got the EPC light. turned the car off and let her relax for 5 minutes.

- car took 2 attempts to startup. with severe roughness and shakes (as if the car is cammed V8 engine) for 5 seconds and then back to normal.

Now since the EPC light came back on i wanted to check if there is another code from the OBD-II. I was hoping that the issue will only be the P0420 00 [175] - Efficiency Below Threshold code but my fears were true and i got another very annoying code

This is last nights code pull

2 Faults Found:

14914 - Boost Pressure Regulation

P0299 00 [096] - Control Range Not Reached

Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear

[Code] .....

Day 7:

- The car had the sever start-up roughness again

As I'm trying to find a solution for my problem here are the steps i took/will take:

- took it to the dealer for nothing.

- ordered an O2 sensor extender for the P0420 00 [175] - Efficiency Below Threshold code and i hope it's somewhat related to the start-up issue. it will arrive today or tomorrow.

- once the extender is here, I'll take it to an exhaust shop to install the extender and check for any DP/Exhaust leaks

- I will take it to a mechanic to check any leaks in all intake/air connectors and piping, any leaks in DV (I have forge recirculating DV), Boost pressure sensors (the piggy back was connected to them and one might be loose when we removed it), spark plugs and coils.

Golf/GTI VII :: Down On Power / Car Burbles At Idle

My car to me... seems like it's down on power. I don't know why but it sure doesn't feel like it used to. I don't know if it's brain related or vehicle related but I do know the car "burbles" at idle and by that i mean it feels like it's jerking around and sputtering but fine when I take off. I also hear the dv more than I did before, where as before it was much quieter now it's louder and can hear it with the windows up. To make matters worse, and I am in no way condoning any of it - my car could barely out pull a 4th gen Jetta 1.8T that's stock.

I just noticed that at idle there is an obvious but not really loud whistling sound. I have no CEL. Is there any simple way to check for a vacuum leak or something? Maybe something through VCDS?

Golf IV R32 :: If Rev At Start Up Car Will Idle At About 1100 RPM

Recently, my car has been having issues starting. It will start if I get a boost, but will be dead if I turn it off again. Also, while I'm driving, the airbag, ABS, and traction lifts all come on, and eventually my radio will shut off, but after a few minutes the radio will come back on and the warning lights will go off. When i first start the car it idles as it should but if I rev it will idle at about 1100 RPM. What might be causing all of this? Battery? Alternator? Or EPC?

Golf IV R32 :: At Idle Clutch Rattle?

I have had a FX400 installed for about 4 months with a solid flyweel(stock weight). Question is at idle the clutch will rattle? When the Clutch pedal is pushed in the noise is gone. When you engage 1st and accelerate through 1st and 2nd it will rattle till you get into higher RPM's. In higher gears the noise is not present or at least unable to be heard. Is this normal operation for an aftermarket clutch and flywheel? This is not the normal chatter while slipping the clutch slightly to get the car moving Which is only present if you accidentally slip too much. Otherwise there is no chatter under normal driving.
