I have an 03 2.0 jetta manual shifter. Never had issues before this morning. Got in car and sounded like it wanted to turn but wouldnt turn over. After a few attempts the turning sound stopped and I heard an electric pop. Now engine won't even try turning when I turn key it just clicks and engine makes a high pitch noise. Took starter and battery out got both tested and they are fine...
View 3 RepliesMy Pruis v makes a humming noise. Sometimes. Doesn't happen all the time. Don't know when it will happen. When it does happen, the car makes a humming noise. High pitch and low pitch-no longer than 2 minutes. Seems to be coming from the right side of the vehicle. It is embarassing when we have friends in the car, the noise comes on , and the friend asks, 'what's that noise' and i shrug my shoulders-i don't know.Took it to service. Manager said he has to hear it to determine what/where it is coming from. If it isn't making the noise, he can't tell me where it is coming from. Took it back today and now we have a loaner so he can drive it for a couple of days to try to hear the noise.
View 7 Replies03 focus SE Wagon, Automatic Tran, has a bit of a problem. Whenever it gets driven through a puddle (big, small, paddling pool, etc.) it will make this high pitch squealing noise, and then when it gets shut off after driving through said puddle, will have trouble starting. (It will turn over, catch, run for .2 seconds & then the engine will cut out, but all the electronics will work) THEN! if you can get it started, it needs to be reeved constantly or it will stall when it idles. Lastly, if the conditions are ridiculously horrible, & you need to go some place, you have to '2 foot drive' the little beauty to whereever you're going. Now, she's been in to see the Ford mechanics and has 'stumped' them.

View 2 RepliesI had a rebuilt alternator installed on Thursday and for the past two days when I start up the car there is a high pitch whine coming from what I believe is the alternator. Do some rebuilt alternators make noise when charging the batter after start-up? The alternator has a 3-year warranty and I'm going back to the shop tomorrow.

Mysterious noise like WOMMMMM, WOMMMM itinerantly: Noise is only when air conditioning is on and the engine is warm. I can feel vibrations in the brake pedal. *You can't hear the noise under the hood*. It is quite loud in the cab, though, definitely coming from under the dashboard.
I have stuck my nose in. I removed the glove box and listened to the blower motor, it seemed to be coming from further toward the driver's side. It will be like wmmmmOMMMMM WOMMMMM pause WOMMMM like something is vibrating too close to something else and the friction causes it to go back to where it was.
I hit a speed bump going a bit fast. I broke the small cooling fan somehow so it was just loose hanging on its hub. I had that repaired but the noise hasn't gone away. It seems to be getting more frequent but so far there isn't any indication of the car suffering. This is the second summer it has made the noise.It haunts my sleep.
My friend and I both have the MK4 R32. He had a bunch of stuff replaced in the engine. (a bunch of plastic parts that are super expense, the timing chain, something related to the guide, basically the plastics that holds the engine cushion/absorb) Anyways, his engine sounds great and quiet at the same time with a little high pitch noise when the RPM is hanging in between 1K and 2K.
Our cars were in the garage and I did the same thing and it sounded NOT quiet, a lot more noise than his. There was an obvious difference in noise coming from the engine with the hood open. I do have cams and a light weight pulley. Can that have an affect on the engine noise? If I am not making sense, then i should probably video record the sound or take it to the dealership for a check up. Also, I am at 93K.
I did a lot of searching on this, but can't seem to come to a solid conclusion. I have a 01 VR6, When I put my air circulation (warm or cold, doesn't matter) to 1 or 2 on vent control, its fine. However, when i put it to 3 or 4, there is a LOUD kind of "whirring" type air noise that comes from the Passenger Glove Box area. I also feel a little bit of the vibration on the brake pad. Not sure what this is?....

Over the past months, I've noticed the engine noise on acceleration sounds a bit louder than I would expect it to, and it seems to be getting louder over time. It's slow changing, so I'm a little unsure. And occasionally I wonder if I don't hear a sound that shouldn't be there, though I couldn't describe it yet. Mechanic said the acceleration noise is normal at start-up for older cars until they get warm, but this happens even after I've been driving a while. Worth the $100 for an engine checkup?
Also, the A/C doesn't seem to be the strongest and has a high pitch noise when I run it. Normal?
Whenever I start my R32, I have some high pitch buzz noise coming from the rear, stay and never go away while even driving.

View 10 RepliesMy first VW was a 2001 4-door Golf (Silver), traded to 2003 GTI (Silverstone), traded to 2006 Jetta Wagon (Blue). Then the wagon was traded for a SUV. Well last week, I have decided to pick up my 4th VW. It's a 2012 CSG 4-door GTI.
After driving the car for a week, and putting on 350 miles, I heard a high pitch continous "whistling" sound from the engine. Took the car to the dealer this afternoon. Tech came out and loosened the coolant reservoir. I heard a "pooof", sound of air build up. The tech said VW is aware of this problem. Something to do with the water pump bearing. It has to be replaced. They took the car in to replace the water pump.
I lost boost, went from being chipped at 16psi to 7-8 with a check engine code and a high pitch noise. Now is the secondary air pump connected to the turbo in any way. It just happened and I'm working on getting the code read. Just curious if my pump is just bad, what im figuring.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata, 2.4L 4cyl. and it is making some weird noise as of late. I have done some research and from what I have read it seems like it may be a bad engine mount. One thing to note is that the noise really only happens when the car is cold and hasn't warmed up yet or on a cold day.
Basically the best description is that the noise is a high-pitched rattle/vibration noise. The noise seems to match the vibrations of the engine but doesn't seem to get more intense if I rev the engine. The noise does get quieter if I put it in neutral but it is still there. The noise also happens even if the car is parked and off, and I do something like shut the door or trunk. I haven't gotten a chance to get in there and look under the hood myself to try...
I let my friend drive my 1999.5 2.0L Jetta (Automatic). He attempted a drift around a cultist, when he started the drift the car made it's usual noise. But after the sharp turn and acceleration, the car made a higher pitch noise. It was definitely noticeable. When driving back home the car performed all the same, accelerated and turned as per usual. But the noise still remains. I don't know what is causing it to make the noise, maybe the Transmission? I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to cars so that's why I came here.
View 23 RepliesI've noticed a noise coming from my car (2014 IS350 RWD) that sounds like a light, irregular rattle, when the engine is running in the 3500 - 4500 RPM range. I don't hear it necessarily under load, but if I am in manual mode in a lower gear, and let off the throttle, I can hear it.
The best way I can describe the noise is like a bowl of rice crispies (rapid and random), only slightly louder. You have to listen for it, the road/traffic should be quiet, and if you get back on the gas, the intake noise that's plumbed into the cabin pretty much covers it up. I can also hear it in Park or Neutral.... I've wondered if it's a loose heat shield, or an exhaust issue, but I can't hear it standing next to the car or with my head under the hood. I only hear it from the cabin. The rhythm of the noise is irregular.
I don't think it's ping/detonation, since that usually shows up under load, is much louder and has a decidedly metallic sound to it compared to what I'm hearing.
My 07 SCREW 5.4L 4x4 has 77,000 miles and has a high pitch whining noise on front right side of engine. Sounds worse in the cold,increases with RPMs.
View 5 RepliesI replaced the timing belt an waterpump at 262,000 miles and ever since the engine makes a loud low pitch noise that varies in pitch depending on the engine speed. I replaced the alternator and it didn't work. I don't know if the power steering pump, a/c compressor or something else is making this awful sound.

I also went under and found on the left axle markings that indicate its is oem VW and I was unable to find these on the right side. anyway I have found this: [URL]....
It says it is a hollow axle right there and it is 170 less than the cheapest oem one I have found. would this workout?
My 2004 Golf GTI VR6 6-speed manual makes a louder than usual decelerating noise while in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. If I give it gas it doesn't make any noise but once I take my foot off the pedal it makes a louder than usual decelerating noise. It sounds almost as if something is maybe grinding but I'm not sure what it is. One mechanic said it may just need to be serviced (new transmission fluid). I've read some forums saying it may be the bearings or maybe need a new transmission. The car runs fine otherwise and there aren't any problems shifting up, it shifts really smooth. '
Its only when I downshift that I hear the noise. The noise is the same no matter if I'm turning or going straight and and it's in neutral, there ISN'T noise. It's only while in 4th, 3rd, or 2nd while decelerating. Even if this is a common problem with VW's how do I fix it?! The previous owner said it's been the same way since he's had it and it has NOT gotten worse and his mechanic said it was nothing detrimental to the car so he left it that way. The GTI has 130K miles on it and runs strong, that's the only problem it really has. I'm not sure when the transmission fluid was last changed so that could be a possibility. Going to possibly try that in a few days and see what happens.
Recently had this problem which started up about a week ago where my car would make this clicking noise whenever I turn left while driving. When I turn to the right there is no noise. Some said that it could be that CV joints need to be replaced. I have a video showing the side that is making the sound, maybe there is something abnormal that I don't see.
