I have an issue that I have yet to figure out. While the car is in motion there is a rumble from what sounds like the front driver side. I've replaced the wheel bearing and CV axle already. The noise seems to have gotten better but its still there. The noise will worsen when turning left and pretty much disappear when turning right.
View 2 RepliesLowered my car yesterday. 23" FTG. I'm now hearing a clicking noise from my drivers side front wheel.. I mostly hear it when my foot is off the gas and I'm just coasting (usually at slower speed). Also, it gets louder (worse) and is accompanied by what sounds like a rubbing when I take turns.. Is it axle bind? Or should I be concerned?
View 1 RepliesA months or so ago, after turning off my car I noticed a loud buzzing noise coming from the drivers-side lower firewall area. I cranked the car up and the buzzing stopped immediately. The problem began as intermittent but now within 2 minutes of turning my car the buzzing noise always starts, and runs my battery dead! I have taken my car to 2 local shops that have good reputations and they both began guessing and throwing parts at the problem to no avail my last resort is a dealership but it is 100 miles away and I'm not sure if they would do any better. I feel like this is something simple that an expert should have no problem diagnosing.
I have been searching around the internet and never seem to find someone with the exact same problem - until today!

I started to notice a slight vibration coming from my front end on the drivers side last week and now is pretty loud. It increases with acceleration, fades slightly when turning left, and goes away almost entirely when turning right. Tie rods seem fine. The inner and outer cv boots are torn but have been that way for some time.
View 4 RepliesRecently my car has had a hollow clunking noise and it seems to be coming from the drivers front side. It doesn't really make the noise if I hit a pothole or something in the road. It does it when I'm driving down a bumpy road or sometimes even a smooth road. I thought it was my top strut mounts and bearings. I replaced them and the noise went away for about 2 weeks but it seems to be back. I was thinking maybe sway bar bushings? Could my new parts I just installed be bad already?

Suddenly started a groaning sound whenever the front driver's side suspension compresses. Started suddenly right after I hit a speed bump but not "hard". I parked and bounced on each corner of the car, no noise on anything but the front driver's side. The suspension's "give" felt similar across all 4x corners.
Of course whenever I'm braking or turning I get that sound. But it's definitely the suspension. And like I say, it's sudden.
I didn't see anything wrong, but the wheel's mostly in the way. The wheel cowling isn't rubbing the wheel. Handling feels fine, still goes straight with the hands off the wheel.
Front driver side area making a flat tire noise. Replaced the tires and axle and wheel bearings. Kinda lost on what could btw making the noise. Alignment done 15k miles ago when lowering springs and new shocks were put on.
View 5 RepliesSo after the long saga of trying to get my 03gti VR6 running, I have come across the STRANGEST behavior I have ever seen in a car. Here's a little background. Two weeks ago driving in a snowstorm my car started sputtering and then died. Left me stranded on the side of the road. Towed it to my buddies house (he's a master tech for Lexus) and tried to figure out what was going on. It wasn't throwing any codes. I replaced the fuel pump relay and that didn't fix anything. Then I noticed the fuel pump wasn't priming when I opened the door. So I replaced the fuel pump. Now it primes when you open the door. Got it started, but it wouldn't stay running for more than 10 seconds, it was acting like it was running out of gas. Even tried disconnectig the battery and touched the pos and neg together. Still to no avail.
After a week of trying to figure it out, I tried starting it with the door closed. Now the damn thing runs. BUT. Here's the strange thing. It will only run if the drivers door is closed. If you open the door, it kills the power to the fuel pump. If you leave the door open, it'll eventually die after roughly 10'secs. If you get out and close the door, it'll stay running. I'm guessing when you close the door it starts sending power to the fuel pump again. Everything else works. Power windows, door locks, mirrors, ect. The local vw shop in town said it might be a bad door switch or the CCM. But the lights come on when you open the door and go off when you shut it. Fuel pump primes when you open the door.
My key when I press the button will lock all of the doors except the drivers door, I can still lock the drivers door, but only if i put my key in the lock and do it manually. I know on my brothers 02 golf gls it would lock all of the doors with the button on the key.
View 1 RepliesI noticed a clunking noise in the rear of my car (drivers side more specifically). After doing some investigating, I noticed that the bushing in the rear shock absorber is completely shot. It is practically falling out and this is what is causing my noise. My question is, is it possible to be able to just replace the bushing in the shock? If not, I assume I could just replace the rear shocks without having to get a whole new set of coilovers? Can I replace the rear shocks with a different aftermarket brand or do I have to stick with raceland?
View 7 RepliesI hear & feel a knocking sound when i brake and come to a stop & when i am accelerating and moving at slower speeds. I had both my front & back brakes replaced in the recent past and the brake oil also changed. I still hear the noise and vibration. This issue get all the more prominent when the roads are wet and its raining.

View 10 RepliesSo i have had my r now for a lil under 2 weeks, just noticed a strange noise, seems to be coming from the front drivers side, its a low whine/hum, almost like a pump or small motor is running and is very similar to when you use your wiper fluid. the noise is only present when the engine is cold and typically only does it two to three times while stopped. Just seeing if this is a normal thing, never heard anything like this on my previous vw.

It's definitely not a groan or squeak. It almost sounds like the wheel is rubbing on something but the frequency/pitch doesn't change with speed.
A year ago I heard occasional metal grinding noise coming from the front, sounding like front driver side. Sounded like CV joints that I heard before. The mechanic said it's transfer case/transmission problem, so I replaced the transmission but the noise came back a few days later. The mechanic said to drive it for a while and the noise may go away, if getting worse he can fix it since it has 2-year warranty.
Now a year later the noise becomes predicable and easily reproducible, I went back and asked them to check. They said it may be passenger side axle. I am feeling being manipulated.
So, I'm having this weird knocking noise on front left (drivers) side. It appears when I'm accelerating and stops immediately when i press clutch.. The noise gets stronger if i accelerate fast and gets faster, faster i go. Surprisingly the noise stops when i lift my car up and starts again at my drive height. Could it be driveshaft joints? And which one more likely? Outer maybe?
View 5 RepliesSo I was trying to track down this squeak noise and I removed the drivers side seat belt but now the belt will not retract? It's stuck like this, is there a manual release? Buying another one is not a option right now. And I have to drive the car tomorrow morning.
View 1 RepliesJust like the title says i have been hearing this ringing noise in my 2003 gti vr6 and its driving me nuts. Neither my mechanic or I could find this source of this noise with the stethoscope. It seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine but strangely only happens when I LITERALLY shake the car or when its idling and revving. The A/C isn't working either if that means anything. First time owner of a VW by the way.

I have koni seyup and my car is lowered all the way down all around. my front passenger side sits lower then the driver side.. I also have camber plates in the front. What u think could be the problem.
