My passenger parking light is off. I've check all my fuses and wiring and everything is good. They were working fine yesterday but they then shut off out of no where.

View 10 RepliesI recently purchased a 01 1.8t GTi with a blown timing belt. I got the car rebuilt, did all maintenance work like brakes , hub/bearings, bushings, oil and all the good stuff that goes into getting the car back up and running. I've finally started driving it and I'm having a weird issue.
Yesterday , I stopped at a red light and the car randomly died on me. Pushed it off the road and checked things out but I couldn't see if there was anything wrong but about 10 minutes later , I was able to restart the car and drive home. Now today , on my way home from work the car starts back firing and I lost all power and rolled to the side of the road where he car would just continue to crank. I was able to get it restarted but it cut out again a couple seconds after. I don't have my code scanner but I know I do have one lean code for something. Maybe cause I have a leak between turbo and dp. I don't have access to vagcom unfortunately..
Last winter I had to replace my front passenger seat. The seat was starting to burn a hole or two, generally getting too hot for the passenger. At about the same time my airbag warning idiot light came on! I changed my front seat. The seat change was no biggy, but I keep getting the airbag light! Can this be cleared simply or only by a dealer?
View 8 RepliesI just got a 2001 Jetta 2.0 (I know slow but I needed a work vehicle) and the dash lights and passenger rail lights don't work, the check engine light, fuel light, all those type of lights work, but the speedometer and blinkers and that stuff don't work, and then the blinker works in the back but no break light. I'm pretty good mechanically but when it comes to electrical stuff I'm completely stumped. What it could be? I haven't looked into anything due to just getting it last night and having to work this morning.
View 3 RepliesI'm having a weird issue with my passenger side turn signal light. It's more of an annoyance than an actual problem. When I turn on my headlights both yellow turn signal lights also usually turn on but the passenger side one is not turning on anymore. The odd thing is that it still blinks as normal when I engage the turn signal. I replaced the bulb but it did not resolve the issue. I'm thinking it's an electrical short somewhere. It's not the wiring in the headlight housing because I tried an old housing I kept when I replaced my headlights last year and I still had the same issue. What I should check first?

View 5 RepliesI replaced both rear calipers, rotors, pads, parking brake cables and it still sticks once in a while. I have played with the adjustment on the console many times, but to no avail. I have to crawl under the back and press the link up to unlock the parking brake. It's only about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch at most. Is there some type of spring I can use so it retracts all the time? I have seen Toyota's with them.

I have an 03 JETTA TDI 5 SPEED WAGON with 216 on it. The parking brake alarm recently came on for no reason (as did the warning light) As soon as you move 50' it starts and wont stop until you stop the vehicle. I pulled the center console, unplugged the switch and it still did it. I jumped the 2 wires together and it still did it! I cut the wires at the point where they disappeared into the larger harness, it still did it!!! Why this is happening and if there is something besides the switch at the park brake lever that make the alarm go off?
View 1 RepliesIt's a 2003, 2.0, rear disks. If I take it apart and manually compress the piston with that rotating clamp that Autozone lent me I can put it back together and use it 2 or 3 times and then it's too tight and I have to take it all apart again. I don't have the cable hooked up, I just move the lever with my hand or a screwdriver.
I'm a little irritated cause I replaced this caliper last year. I remember finding a good description of how this device worked and now I can't find it again.
I have a 2003 Jetta. I would like to have my parking lights on all the time, controlled with ignition (without any headlights), & have my headlights only cone on when I turn the headlight switch. Is there an easy way to do it?
View 2 RepliesSo I bought a used 1.8t back in august. My second golf, up from an mkiii and I love it. However, the previous owner installed a CAI and being that he lives in the desert, probably never had any issues taking on water. Fast forward to my problem, got caught in a rainstorm, limped it home with the CEL and the traction lights on. it died like three times trying to get it home, but it still would idle when I parked it.
Now I've used the search feature extensively on this problem, and what I've down so far is to take off the intake and reroute it about six or seven inches from the maf, I've cleaned the filter, maf, pancake pipe, and SMIC with denatured alcohol and those are all currently drying. When I took the IC off, specifically the connection between the pancake and the IC, a good three cups (~30oz/850sillyliters) of water dumped out.
Again, my car still was idling when I parked it. Scanned the CEL and got misfires and maf low air codes. Before I started tearing down the intake I took the coils and plugs out and put my shop lights above the valve cover to generate a little heat, maybe make a lil water evap from the cylinders. I live in a pretty arid climate, IE all the water that fell onto my garage floor was gone in 24 hours. Prolly wishful thinking but whatever.
My plan next is to put everything back together when it's all dry, pour a lil oil down into the cylinders, and crank it while the spark plugs are out. Hopefully any residual water will shoot out, along with the oil/gas, and I can go back to enjoying my life.
Also, the intake is hot. I'm thinking any water that made it past the intercooler would've been steam/vapor and I shouldn't need to remove that? Also it seems like it's in a conformation that would force any residual water to drain either into the cylinders or back into the intercooler, so I really don't see any gains by removing and cleaning it
At first the passenger side front parking light would randomly not turn on until you gave the light assembly a hard tap. Now I am having the same problem with the driver side low beam light. I checked the harness connector and it clicks firmly into place. So, I am guessing there's something not grounded properly somewhere on the light assembly. I'm hoping that a light film of dielectric grease will work but I can't tell where to put it.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2001 mk4 golf 1.8T, tonight I was driving and all of the sudden the gear changes started clunking really rough ( it's an automatic) and then it would pulse for power only give it to me at random not when I gave it gas, coming to the next stop sign I pushed the accelerator to go and for the first 3 seconds nothing happened until it jumped in revs spinning tires and shooting me forward, so I shut off all the electronics in my car which seemed to work with the not getting power issue but when I finally got to where I was going it now won't turn over, you turn the key you hear the starter try but that's it it just won't turn over, there's no check engine light and I already have a call into my mechanic.
View 7 Replies2004 PD TDI. been a little hard to start these days, hot or cold, and suddenly dies on me in middle of the road. Tank pump is working, new fuel filter so lots of fuel. Replaced engine speed sensor as there was no tach function. Glow plug light comes on, so ECU has power. Not a hiccup. Don't have the advanced VW diagnostic software, just generic scan tool. No engine codes.
I checked the wiring diagram in my manual and it shows 3 wires to speed sensor, one of which should be ground. getting various resistances across all 3 to ground (measuring through the ecu end of the connector, sensor unplugged), but no direct to ground which seems strange, but I'm not sure I trust the Haynes manual as the colour codes listed aren't the same as in my car - I've got white brown and black, and none show direct ground. Not sure if it matters as it's only a shield anyway.
out of nowhere the right side of my cluster stopped working. The speedometer is completely dead and when ever i go around a cornor my gas guage drops to 0 and beeps. I haven't changed anything with the car and the only thing i e messed with recently was the valve cover.
Is there any wires close to the valve cover that could cause the cluster to short only on the right side?
I was driving tonight and all of a sudden my car dies and wont start back up. I try to go and start it and only thing that happens is it clicks once. Battery is around one year old and the alternator was replaced with it. Lately there has been a rattle in the engine bay and i couldnt figure out what was going on. I tried to replace the intake manifold bushings with OEM ones and no luck with that.
I was going to replace with oversized bushing by friday but I don't think that's going to happen now. Whether it could be the starter or if the timing chain could have broke or if the engine could have seized. *(BTW the car is a 2003 Jetta GLI with a 2.8l 24v vr6 6 speed manual.)*
Last time i did an oil change was around 50 miles ago. 6 quarts of 0w-40 mobil 1 full synthetic.
I installed LED tail lights a few months ago, now all of a sudden the passenger side does not light for brakes or turn signals. The lights came with resistors that I put in when installing and the adhesive wore out and they were dangling in the truck frame. The wires connecting the resistors to the light were damaged. I taped the exposed wires and secured them a with a heavier tape, but taping did not work. I also tried switching the resistor packs with the driver side to see if it was them that have an open winding, but they are still operable.
I narrowed it down to wiring between the trailer hook up and passenger light assembly in the electrical circuit. I plugged an LED light bar into the trailer connection and the same problem occurred (running lights come on, but no turn signal or brake light). Where could there be a short? Or is this circuit fused somewhere that the running lights come on but a separate fused circuit triggers the higher voltage for LEDs.
I have a 2002 Jetta TDI with the grey leather parking brake handle cover and would like to replace it. How to do this and if I will have to remove the armrest & the plastic trim around the handle?
View 2 RepliesI have to pull up really hard to get the parking brake to hold. If I'm on a hill forget it, I yank up really hard and then leave it in gear just in case. I have installed new cables and pads. I have also have the lever adjusted so it starts to catch when you pull it up about 2-3 inches. I've never driven another mk4 so I don't have any other reference to how well the parking brake should hold but I would think that I wouldn't have to pull up this hard to get it to habe any real holding power.
Any other vehicle I've driven with a hand brake I could easily lock up the rear tires. I'm lucky to get mine to lock while pulling so hard I think I'm going to break something. I've searched around and have only come up with threads about replacing cables and adjusting the lever. I couldn't find anything like the problem I'm having. Is this normal operation for a mk4 or is there something wrong with my calipers that needs to be addressed? My regular brakes work fine and the parking brake arms on the calipers allear to be functioning properly. They contract then spring back on their own
