Specifically only from 1st to 2nd. I'm kinda knew at this kinda stuff and just started school so I haven't gotten to this part of knowledge. Looking for a solution I've heard two possibilities. For a GTI 12v vr6.
View 1 RepliesWhen I use the keyfob, my lights no longer flash. I was trying to figure out why one of my turn signals wouldn't work, and I did go through 2 fuses on accident (on the turn signal, one the hazard switch), but those are both good now and I've checked all the other ones I'd think about and nothing, they all seem fine.
Did I some how disable this by pressing the lock button too many times (I'd try one thing, hit the lock to see if they'd, then it just eventually stopped working).
I have a 02 golf and it runs great other then the reoccurring problem i have been experiencing. The problem doesn't happen every time i drive my car, but often. When i drive for a short period of time and i park and go to turn the car off, all the lights on the dash flash on and off, and most of my things restart. Some times i will stop at a stop light or sign and the car will just restart and turn off. I know this maybe something very small.
View 1 RepliesMy 2000 Jetta gls vr6 automatic was not shifting into reverse until it warmed up a bit, so I did a filter and fluid change, car level, warm pumped fluid while shifting gears. No problem. Next morning no forward fear, guess I split the gasket by over tighting. Had it towed home. Oh, tried to get to work, adding fluid made it go. Now now gasket and fluid. No gears at all. Generic code reader said electric malfunction on every shift solinoid, torque converter lockout and something about shift timing malfunction. Basically everything connected to ribbon harness. What's up? Did I fry it. Also I have a 2002 triptronic from my 2002 vr6, suppose that's not a bolt on?
View 1 RepliesEvery once in awhile when I'm on the freeway, the hazard lights will flash and the doors will lock and unlock for about 3 seconds then stop.
The car is running normally other than this, except that the doors have stopped locking with the fob or the key itself. It is a 2001 2.0L L4 SOHC 8V.
I have a 2000 Jetta GLX VR6, automatic, that I have been going over for my son. The passenger side mirror doesn't adjust when I shift into reverse. I moved up,(towards the top of the housing) a little. Shifted to park and then back to reverse and it moved up again and doesn't return. I have changed the mirror switch, the mirror motors, and have dis-connected all the electrical plugs on the transmission. I figured the plugs needed to be plugged and re-plugged to clean the terminals, but no luck. Is there a switch or sensor that needs to be replaced on the transmission? All the fuses are good. What needs to be done?
View 5 RepliesHow bout this one, both reverse lights flash with left signal. Also with 4 ways on, and will come on steady with brake applied. Unplugged 7 pin at factory conn on left frame, no change. Found and removed L trailer turn relay , no change. Looking for a fuse diagram for an 09 ?

Since my first post the jetta has come a long way. still has a longer way to go.
Recently I've noticed that every time when shifting from park to drive and occasionally from reverse to drive in my 05 Golf GLS, I would have to remain off the gas for 3-4 seconds otherwise the car would jerk forward. If I press on the gas ever so slightly, the rpm would go up to around 1000 then jerk. Why this is happening?
View 2 RepliesWhen I look back into the rear view the top brake light isn't a solid light, it keeps blinking but sometimes it won't blink and just have a solid light. Also, my friend pointed out to me that both of my reverse lights arenot even coming on. I suspect a loose wire somewhere. Where should I look? Or something else?
View 5 RepliesI have an 02 2.0L Jetta which has started to die when slowing down or stopped. So kind of scary when you have a line of cars waiting behind you at a stop light. It only started this past Sunday and has happened 6 times since then (3 of times yesterday). All the indicator lights on the dash flash and it settles to the CEL, ABS, Bat and Seat belt light (like when you start you car, but don't turn it all the way to engage the starter). The clock and tripmeter reset. everything starts back normally when I put it back to park, turn completely off and back on.It seems like it should be an electrical problem but I'm not sure where to start, the battery and the fuses seem to have a good connection. I don't think its the alternator since the battery is staying charged too.

I know I shouldn't be driving it when it flashes but I gotta work.... I've noticed some shuddering when driving so I checked it for some codes and came back with the following:
16684 Random misfire detected
16689 Cylinder 5 misfire
16687 Cylinder 3 misfire
17524 Bank 1 sensor 1 circuit open
16524 Oxygen sensor circuit bank 1 sensor 2
17606 02 Sensor Heater circuit Bank1 Sensor 2- Electrical malfunction
The car would run perfectly smooth most times but every now and then I can feel the shudder in my seat, kind of worrying.. (I know I shouldn't be driving it when it flashes but I gotta work...). Noticed its more of a problem when cold and wet, so could it actually be coils/sparkplugs? Super poor right now cuz of school but don't want a dead car, which approach to take and what part to fix first?
I recently worked with a friend get a '95 regal custom 3.1 with 178k miles and the only issue I cant figure out on my own is that the back up lights never come on when either shifting into reverse or through it. I've checked all of the fuses and replaced the bulbs and still not even a flicker.
I have researched online a bit and my only idea is it could be the back-up light switch/neutral position switch.. Would that be an accurate guess? And if so where at on the vehicle would that switch be located?
ECU is going crazy, throwing all fault codes. When I turn on my car, it starts up and runs fine but the instrument panel goes crazy and all warning indicator lights come and a flash, I even get a stop message where screen is in the middle.
View 10 RepliesMy 04 GTI 1.8T got the infamous codes P0300, P0303 and P0301 yesterday morning. The check-engine light flash when I drive it. It is a little rough when the check-engine light flashes, but it is drivable and nothing major. When the car idle or when it come to a complete stop for 15 seconds or so, the check-engine light goes away and it comes back after 15 seconds or so after took off from stop.
I cleaned the MAF last night, but the check-engine light still acts the same way as yesterday on the way work this morning. The codes refer to miss-fire. This is my first VW.
Since I can easily get sparkplug from Checkers, I'll try it first. Checkers carries Autolite, ACDelco, NGK and Champions. Which brand do you prefer for VW engine? I hope that it is not the coil pack. It is expensive for $30 each at ECS Tuning.
I got a 99' Jetta gls 5 spd. I just replaced the transmission and now the car won't engage reverse from inside the cockpit. Reverse can be engage from inside the engine bay, but when the shift knob is depressed nothing happens. Linkag cables are in the correct spots.
View 6 RepliesLately my R is acting up, sometimes hard to get in reverse and shifting from 1st to 2nd is very rough. I looked at the cables , the left one towards the engine , the rubber bushings seems to be broken, lots of wiggle in there, is that enough to cause this? Is there any adjustments needed on the cables anyways?

View 1 RepliesTwo months and 2500 miles on my GTI and I feel like I finally know what the DSG is going to do most of the time. Driving with a cold tranny? Expect some delayed clutch takeup and very noticeable downshifting. Downshifting to pass? Goose the throttle a bit before hand to let the car know what you want. Shifting from reverse to drive? Better come to a full stop. EXCEPT! My DSG will still seemingly stall during this transition roughly 1 out of 3 times. I cannot find any rhyme or reason to it and now basically have to sit stopped in N for a good 3-5 seconds before shifting into D to keep the car from doing that quick surge and stop maneuver. I feel like it might be something with the timing of when I press or release the brake. I love every other aspect of the car which is why it's so annoying having to explain to passengers why the transmission in my 30 thousand dollar hatchback just fell on its face.
View 8 RepliesIs it normal to occasionally feel a little vibration or feedback in the shift knob when putting the car into reverse? It happens whether the car is in the "Warm-Up" phase or not, and seems pretty random. Happens about 25% of the time. It doesn't last but a tenth of a second, and it just barely makes an audible noise when the window is rolled down. This is my first manual transmission car so I just don't have the experience to 'diagnose' this. And no, I'm not trying to put the car in reverse while the car is still rolling forward.
VW Golf 5-speed....
I got a 2000 vr6 Jetta with a 5 speed manual transmission. When shifting up or down through the gears it doesn't seem to like going into first and second. All the other gears seem fine. I've tried adjusting the shift cables and changing the gear lube, but nothing seems to work. I've heard of the cable bushings going bad and possibly shot motor mounts ( I'm at 135,000 miles).
