So I have the oil filter out and can't get the drain plug off the pan. I tried the 034motorsports dogbone insert but I couldn't get that bolt loose either. Mainly looking for tips on the drain plug. Even when I put extra leverage on the ratchet if won't budge.
View 7 RepliesI had my 10k service done at the dealership earlier this year, currently at 16.5K miles. My GTI was parked at my parents' garage for a week while I was away for travel. When I returned and went to move my car, I noticed a puddle of oil under the GTI. Since it was a sunday, there were no dealership service departments open, so I went to a quick change oil place and they told me that there is a leak at the drain plug. The tech noticed the oil was low, drained the oil and replaced the drain plug, and when they filled the oil, it immediately started leaking at the drain plug. They added teflon tape to temporarily work with the leak. I will be scheduling a service appointment at the dealer I had my 10k service done.
Have a MK6 and experienced a leak at the drain plug? Could this leak be due to the dealership service tech over tightening the drain plug at my 10k service? The quick oil change place did note that I came in with a leak from the drain plug, in case the dealership tries to blame the oil change place for the leak.
I have around 127 miles on my car and was using it as a daily for sometime for work. Due to this, oil changes were done by Kauffman Tire, work paid. Now that I am in a different role my car is not my daily any longer and I tired to change my own oil. My oil filter cap drain plug is hollowed out! I couldn't get it out at all with the 6mm Allen. I thought I would be able to take the filter off from the inside. I soon found out I can't do that. Am I stuck buying a new filter cap and plug from the dealer? Any way to get the filter off without the drain plug?
View 9 RepliesI changed my oil for the first time last weekend and all went well, except that i could not remove the washer from the drain plug. I got a new one from the parts counter along with a filter. the new washer definitely had a larger diameter than the one that was on the plug. I re-used the washer on the plug and re-checked things tonight. no leaks - so i should be OK. Maybe I'll just pick up a new drain plug next time...

Looking for the drain plug and I can't find it for the life of me..
There is a hex bolt on a black plate that is seemingly the lowest part of the whole front-underneath, but this isn't the oil, is it? It does have a washer, that hex bolt.
It's in front of the axle, right?
Which direction does it face?
Had the plastic under belly off my car to install the HPA puck, and I noticed a coating of oil on the oil pan around the rear passenger side as well as at the drain plug. The car is getting a new pan and plug under warranty, just wanted to give everyone a heads up. My car is lowered, but i have never bottomed it out. As long as your are under warranty its worth taking a look at. You might as well get the passat subframe bolts to get rid of the subframe clunking at the same time.

Was reading that it could be the water pump leaking but then it wouldn't be in the center of the pan. Got it jacked up now so here are some pics.

View 3 RepliesI have a 1993 Isuzu Trooper. I put too much oil in the other day, about half a quart, and wanted to drain it out of the bottom. I loosened the drain plug like normal and it wouldn't come out at all, just spun in the same place. Tried retightening the plug and it wouldn't tighten either. It was tight when I started. It would get tight for a second and then get loose again, feeling like a stripped thread. Oil is leaking out from around the plug. I cannot twist the plug with my fingers, so its not super loose but it's loose enough to leak oil. Is this a easy fix for an oversized plug or will the entire oil pan have to be replaced?

View 6 RepliesSo i went to do an oil change on my 05 elantra but the oil drain plug is tightened too tight. I tried to unscrew it with my 17mm 6 contact deep socket wrench but no luck. I noticed the edges of the plug starting to get eaten away so i stopped. What do i do now. I was really excited to do my own oil change but i couldnt even get past the 1st step. I dont have access to an inpact wrench but i've been told not to use that anyway with the oil drain plug.

Also my car air vents smells. Tried to clean it twice with Klimaclean foam spray but both times, no water came out from under the car.
I've come to the conclusion that the drain plug is clogged. Where he drain plug is located? It's easier for me to look for it if I kind of have a general location rather than to search the entire car.
Where the engine coolant drain plug is located? The picture in the owner's manual is not very clear. I crawled under and found a bolt head with a washer under it located about six inches to the driver side of the oil filter. It's right next to the VIN number plate.
I expected to find it at the bottom of the engine but this bolt head is higher up, about even with the lower edge of the oil filter. Is this the coolant drain plug?
New 2014 SE 2.5L owner here. Gonna Amsoil my rig when it hits 5K. I bought a filter wrench and drain plug gaskets online. What's the torque spec. on the filter housing and drain plug?
View 7 RepliesRecently replaced the transaxle fluid on my 2007 Prius with 47,000 miles. This was the first time the transaxle fluid has been changed in the vehicle. After removing the drain plug I noticed a substantial amount of a thick, grease type substance on the bottom of the plug. When they have change the transaxle fluid on their vehicles? I found minimal metal shavings on the plug, but was concerned on the thick sludge/grease substance on the bottom of the plug. The ATF fluid that I drained was very dark. Definitely not close to the red color of new ATF WS fluid.
View 19 RepliesWhilst flushing the radiator the drain plug snapped in half and is now inside the actual radiator. It's not screwed on the threads but inside the valley. I got a replacement plug, but I'm a little worried about that piece blocking up the flow to the engine or even worse going into the engine. Will that piece cause any damage if left or do I have to try and get it out(mission impossible)?
It's a Nissan Skyline 1990 with the RB30E engine. The lower hose is on the opposite side to the plug.
I have a 92 crown vic. And this past weekend I tried to do a oil change but the drain plug was really tight. So I took it to an oil place to see after I messed with it for over two hours. They did get it out half way, but had to put it back in. They suggested that the drain plug or the the pan is stripped, I even tried to use a cheap siphon hose that goes down through the dipstick and it wouldn't go all the way down. So is there another way I can drain my oil without messing up my oil pan and drain plug?
