Golf V R32 :: Pulleys Self Destructed / Started Hearing Odd Sound

Last Friday I was driving with my GF in her R32, and we started hearing an odd sound. We pulled over, and I opened the hood for her, and there was plastic bits all over the right side of the engine bay. Apparently one of the pulleys self destructed.

We called AAA, had it brought to the stealership, and they didn't get it started until yesterday. They originally told her that it was the alternator dampener, and another part for the DSG needed to be replaced under recall. They told her the parts would be in today, and should have it done by tomorrow (Wednesday) or Thursday at the latest.

Now, they just called her, and both parts are not available at the VW warehouse and are having to come in from Germany. It may still be another week or so.

Golf IV R32 :: Hearing Sound Like Rear Tires Dragging Over Gravel And Sticking

My car is not my daily and I only hear the sound after it's been sitting for a day or so, at low speeds right when I pull out of my driveway, I hear what sounds like the rear tires dragging over gravel and "sticking," the sound is more pronounced the sharper I turn. As I go a mile or so down the road and make turns, the sound goes away. I don't notice any vibrations or clinking sounds.

Golf V R32 :: Noise Coming From One Of Pulleys

Awful noise coming from one of my pulleys. I've sadly already been to Firestone three times about this same issue... twice replacing the belt. So yeah my belt has completely torn to shreds or just fallen off while driving. They replaced my tension pulley and idler pulleys, yet after three times of them fixing crap I still have a intact belt BUT the original noise I took my car in for is still there. It sounds like a thin piece of metal is hitting something as the pulleys spin....

Passat (B5) :: Won't Start - Hearing Hard Drive Clicking Spinning Sound From Middle Of Dash

I'm a fairly new owner of a 2002 W8 Passat. A few days ago I was leaving the grocery store to come home. The car usually starts right up. This time is took 2 or 3 tries of cranking the starter til it fired on. On the drive home I noticed the A/C no longer worked and it didn't display the temperature on the A/C screen like usual. I got home just fine. The next morning I tried to start it. The starter and battery sound very strong. I was a little low on fuel so I dumped two gallons in - didn't work. I noticed a sound like a hard drive spinning or searching coming from the middle of the dash. I thought is was the cd player, but I ruled that out by taking out the stereo fuse. Is there a computer that went bad? I can't imagine there being an actual spinning hard drive in the car, but that's what it sounds like to me. I also noticed the clock and trip meter were reset as well. I didn't disconnect the battery to cause this. All fuses look good. I'm hoping it's not the fuel pump. Bad relay?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: RPMs Dropped After Hearing A Screeching / Grinding Noise

I have an issue with the 02 1.8t (wife has an issue). We recently took our car in to get some service work done and the mechanic informed me that he thinks the tranny is starting to go and just baby it....Fast forward a month the wife is driving the car, she said at around 40mph 2k RPM and the RPMs just drop after hearing a screeching/grinding noise....

Then she tried to apply throttle and it redlined...She said it would shoot up in RPM and not go over 30mph, she used the triptonic to get home and was able to get up to 45..Sat for a bit and I drove it, everything seemed ok..Shifts good, stops fine, no weird noises, etc....

Car is a 2002 Jetta 1.8t w/ 148k miles, regularly maintained, never had tranny oil flushed..

Golf/GTI VII :: After Installation Of Lowering Spring Hearing Popping / Banging Over Large Bumps?

I installed H&R lowering springs this weekend and now the suspension is making quite a bit of noise. I've double and triple checked the installation, and this isn't my first rodeo, so I don't think anything is improperly installed.

I'm hearing popping/banging over large bumps. I do believe that the noise is most noticeable when my tires drop off into a pothole and the suspension is unloaded. I think the noise is caused by the suspension being uncompressed and then the coils of the springs either hitting themselves or hitting the top hat.

Experienced excessive noise with the H&R springs? I think my next course of action is to get some spring isolators and see if that stops the noise.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2001 2.0L - Loud Rattling Sound When Started / Bad Alternator?

So im trying to diagnose my girlfriends issue with her car. When she starts it, the car will make a very loud rattling sound, not really grinding, but like metal on metal contact. Sometimes the sound goes away, but when the car is cold it is a guarantee. The battery light is also on, which was not the case when the rattle first started. I first thought (and hoped) it was perhaps the serpentine belt tensioner as I researched that when it fails it can make a loud rattle sound.

Once replaced, the same issues occurred. So I went ahead and put the old one back on since it was not the issue. Note that the old one and new one both shared the same tension applied to the belt and the pulley was still smooth without issues.

Using a stethoscope to try to determine the location of the rattle a bit more precisely I found the noise to be coming more from the alternator. Weird because I recently replaced it within the last year. I went ahead and removed the tension from the belt and played with the alternator for a bit. The clutch felt good when i used a screw driver to hold the fan and tried to move the pulley. One direction moved with ease while the other direction refused to budge, perfectly normal as I researched. The thing that I noticed that I thought was unusual was the fact that the shaft of the alternator had some play (Video below).

The belt has plenty of tension on it so i do not believe that it is slipping on the alternator. I push the belt with the tensioner engaged and the tensioner does not budge.

I decided to measure the voltage coming off the alternator with the car running and it was at 10.95 which im pretty sure is very low for these cars.

What happened to my 02 mk4 Jetta after start up and engine failure.

I started the engine, and noticed a high squealing sound just like a loose fan belt, as I backed out my driveway the Battery light came on and engine died, when I tried to re-start the engine it doesn't make any cranking sound just a whirring sound.

This morning I started up my car and I heard the sound of liquid swooshing about. I thought "ok" I checked for leaks later and found a pink almost clear liquid dripping from underneath the driver's side. It doesn't smell like anything but I figure it must be coolant though the coolant tank levels seem about right.

Camry :: 2007 V6 Tensioner Replacement - Cricket Noise With One Of The Pulleys

2007 camry V6 ... I have a few questions regarding tensioner replacement. i wanted to know whats normal cost for that job? I am experiencing a "cricket" noise with one of the pulleys. I had the belt replaced but problem is still there. toyota is recommending to replace the tensioner assembly quoted for 1200. is that a bit high? low?

I have reviewed pervious post with related problems but my "cricket" is on when it has a load on or not... with a/c on or off.. Any online for 2007 manuals? the online link under the stickys does not work, it dispalys a message "site has been hacked".

Buick - Parkavenue :: Slight Squeaking From Under Hood Around Engine Pulleys

I have a 2000 Buick Park Ave, and recently since the cold weather is coming around I am starting to hear a slight squeaking from under my hood around the engine pulleys. It doesn't make noise upon start ( no screeching or clicking) but after its started and starts to idle I am hearing a slight chirping, and I have notice that as the weather has gotten colder that chirping/ squeaking is starting to get a little louder. After The car warms up the chirping/ squeaking seems to go away but is this a problem I should Be worried about? Is this a major issue or a minor issue?

Chevrolet :: Coolant Reservoir Rubbed Against Drive Pulleys And Belts - Flashing CEL

I stupidly did not properly replace my coolant reservoir after cleaning it. Found out today after my check engine light came on. The drive pulleys rubbed against it enough to almost make a hole in the reservoir. After putting the reservoir back in the correct location, the check engine light stayed on. There is engine hesitation upon acceleration and the check engine light starts flashing even with mild acceleration. When I went to get it checked, I was told cylinder 3 misfire was the code. I suppose it is possible that the current problem is unrelated to the initial stupidity, but seems unlikely.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Battery Light On And Whining Noise From Pulleys

I have 2005 F150 XLT 5.4 litre engine and my battery light comes on after letting the truck run on idle or sometimes driving.

Last Saturday went out drove it heater on and radio on I smelled something coming from the heater kinda like burning wire smell didn't think anything of it no smoke from heater (indicating the core was bad) no lights on the cluster nothing; went into the bank let it run came back out my battery light on. Drove it home and while driving the light goes off.

Opened the hood and the smell was coming from the alternator. So I turned the truck off. Let it sit for an hour or so then I took my voltmeter to see if the battery was good. The battery was 12.4v with engine off. Checked my battery connection for corrosion or loose connections everything was tight there was some dust on the battery terminals so I brushed them off. I checked the battery cable that goes from positive to the alternator where it connects to the alternator with that nut it was good, clean and tight.

So I started the engine up and I can hear a whining noise from one of the pulleys. Let it idle for 2 minutes no battery light so I put my voltmeter on the battery it read 13.8v, so I turned on the A/C, head lights, radio and the heater tried again the voltage dropped down to 11.9v then the battery light came back on. Also through all this my battery gauge in the cluster always stays a half way mark doesn't drop or go high. Next with the engine turned off I took the belt off checked the pulleys the idler pulleys seem fine and the belt doesn't show any glazing but the alternator was hot almost like touching a hot exhaust manifold.

So for the last 3 days I have been trying to come up with how to resolve this issue obviously it could be the alternator going bad but the battery has never lost a charge yet I let the truck sit for these past 3 days and today I started the truck and it started right up I don't see any dimming lights except it has a whining noise and the battery light didn't come on immediately I let it run for 5-10 minutes before it came on; I even drove it around the block and the whining noise gets louder every time I step on the gas. To me it's either I need new alternator, tension pulley is bad or the idler pulleys are bad but they turn fine.

so on my way home the interior lights started to dim then out of no where the abs and traction light came on as soon as i pulled up to my house the headlights started to flicker radio shut off gauges flickered off and climatronic shut off now the cars dead would this be the alternator? I have a 06 Volvo s40 (Manual) and am hearing a thud near the front of the car. I have got the car to make the sound a few different ways. The first is starting off a little jumpy, also breaking abruptly. Now the breaking doesn't have to be hard but hitting the break fast makes the sound. Last but not least going over bumps. My initial guess is the struts and maybe shock combination. To my ears it seems like the passenger side(front) but I guess it could be both sides.
