How to keep the driveshaft from spinning while I undo the 10mm 12pts? It just seems around enough to slightly scare me into thinking the car might move, and I can't seem to break them loose.
View 10 RepliesI had my truck at the shop today and it was determined that the transfer case front driveshaft seal is leaking and the gasket between the transmission and transfer case has also failed. The shop wants a reasonable amount to fix it but they need the truck for 2-3 days. It doesn't appear to be that difficult of a job to remove the transfer case. Am I missing something? Dropping off the truck and leaving it for a few days is the difficult portion......if they could do it in a day I'd just pay them and be done with it. So my thought was to pull it and just drop it off so they can replace the seals and fix any other issues.
View 1 RepliesWe are in the process of taking off the downpipe of our R. We can not figure out the trick to getting the front lower bolt of the downpipe. For that matter we can not even see the damn thing. Do you get to it from the top or bottom?
View 13 RepliesIf I were to install a downpipe on the mk7 and not tune it, will my cel trip. Also if the cel trips is there any damage long term to the car having it on and second if I go to the dealer will I void warranty with a downpipe.

View 10 RepliesSo I just installed (well Strasse Autowerks did) my ECS downpipe with high flow yesterday, i have an 2010 GTI Unitronic 1+ and i've been using the car for an hour without any problem and then after that hour the check engine appeared and stays on in my dash.. some guy told me its normal because i have to upgrade to stage 2 so the error would disappear is that right??
And while being here i was also wondering, I'm going to have an intake later next week but what else do i need as equipment for the car for that upgrade?
I Put my stock downpipe back on while having a CEL... never got the stage 2 flash. I can t reset the CEL it keeps coming back on. Do it will reset itself eventually or do I have another problem? It is the cat code I forget the number.

So I recently bought a GTI and started to fix a couple things. It has a P0420 code so I bought a new downpipe to install. Noticed the stock one was missing 1 of the nuts and the stud had broken off. How get this out? Do I need to remove the turbo? Looks like I do need to remove the turbo to use an extractor set.
View 7 Replieswhen I bought my 2003 gti 1.8t it had a small exhaust leak, I decided to investigate today and found that the downpipe flange and turbo flange was rattling around, there's almost 1/16" of play and it's making a rattling noise. I can't tighten the nuts on the studs any more but that might just be from them being seized in place. I'm getting a new gasket and studs and nuts and hopefully that will fix it?
View 3 Replies2003 Golf GTI Turbo... New to VW, I'm a jeep guy and bought a GTI for my wife to try rally cross in. It had some problems that I knew about when I bought it, had to replace CV shafts, control arms, fix broken trans mount, etc. I'm on to the last piece of the puzzle now.
The expansion joint on the downpipe from the turbo is basically exploded. Not a big deal, just buy a new downpipe and biky everything together right? Not so much. Bought one the other day, it showed up and has 3 bolts on turbo side, mine has 4.
When I look at the other stock turbo downpipes, it looks like they have 3 bolts as well. What's going on? Did the previous owner put a different turbo on this? I just need the damn downpipe, but can't figure out which one to order.
I just had a new downpipe installed and now I am getting a horrible scrapping noise when coming off a dead stop. I got under the car and looks like the downpipe is touching subframe heat shield. My question is should i take it back and have them make some clearance or is there a quicker solution. New downpipe and subframe heat shield.

Pulled the drivers rear wheel off and pulled a small rock out from between the rotor and dust cap however in doing so, discovered a huge crack in the driveshaft! This is about 2" long... How critical is this to be repaired and is it covered under warranty at 75k mi???

View 21 RepliesMy MK4 Jetta started leaking coolant recently and I'm not sure where it would be coming from. I already checked the reservoir to see if it was leaking out of there but I could not find any leakage. I've found some coolant on the right side driveshaft near the differential, there is also some on the diff. I'm wondering if this could of happened because it has been sitting on a jack stand not being driven for about 2 months. Is it possible that within that time 1 or more of the coolant hoses could have cracked or anything. And while I'm on the subject of why it's on a jack stand, it also has gone through wheel bearings twice within the last 6 months to a year. Is this normal?
View 8 RepliesNot driving the R as much now that I got a 2011 Triumph Street Triple R. I use as my primary transportation. But I had the car into the dealer this week for service and they said there is a rubber dampener on the driveshaft that is starting to crack and get loose.
I didn't get time to check out the car on the lift and have not had any problems with this shop in the past nor the mechanic who has ONLY worked on my car since new. The R now has 104K on it.
Not getting any cold air. A/C compressor is not spinning. Fuses look ok. What else can I check before I take it to a shop?
View 8 RepliesName that sound!!! It's coming from the rear. Sounds like a spinning creak sound kind of rattly. Always after cold starts it's more prevalent. Happens in first and second gear mostly at 3-4k rpm... Not as noticeable when warmed up but still there. Can't figure it out....
View 7 RepliesI replaced some TYC OEM headlights on my car with stock OEM Hella headlights and cleaned up the lenses really nice.
Once installed, I went to adjust the headlights to find out that the passenger outer adjustment just spins.
This is the one in the photo:
I am not too sure if I can fix this. The little wheel doesn't seem like it can be removed and it has some back and forth play on it.
Need to successfully repaired headlight adjustment?
so I am coming up my driveway with about 4 inches of snow.... with TC on... and it bogged and stopped.... soi was like huh.... lets put this bitch to the test... so I put it back in gear, and it bogged and stalled..... so I am stuck... I live up a pretty steep hill and I have the Haldex mod.. but it seems that the rear wheels aren't spinning in both TC mode and non-TC.
