When my car is cold... sitting 8 hours below freezing I've noticed until the car warms up I hear almost like a quick scraping sound when I take off from a stop or when shifting. It's almost like when the engine is put under load the movement causes something to shift and makes this noise. Any chance I have a loose mount or a portion of the exhaust could be shifting coming in contact with something?
View 13 RepliesMy year-old Camry hybrid stalled out last night. It was the second time this has happened. The first time, about a month ago, I made a quick start from a light, followed by a quick stop, both actions to avoid an accident. (I was about to get rear-ended and scooted into the intersection to give the guy closing in my mirror more room.) After the stop, the car had no power but it started up, no problem. Last night, I was about a minute into my trip, stopped at a light, and the power just died. Again, it started no problem.
This time I noticed that the radio went out. Not sure about the headlights. The emergency blinkers came on at the touch of the button before I restarted. In both cases, I stepped on the accelerator and got no power. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't replicate the problem, of course, and whatever interrogation they did of the systems found no faults. They had to be convinced that I knew the difference between an actual stall and just going from gas to electric. It's kind of disconcerting to just stall out in the middle of the street. And I'm concerned that this is a problem that could get worse -- probably just after the warranty lapses.
I have a clunking sound coming from the rear of my X when I stop and take off. The sound does not happen until the vehicle has been driven for a few miles. After it has been driven, I will get one clunk when I stop. When I take off I will get one clunk as the vehicle starts to accelerate, and another clunk as I give it a little more gas. What could be the cause of this? I do not get the sound when I shift from park to drive, or drive to reverse.
View 14 RepliesI have purchased number 4024, in CW, and I am posting to ask about the transmission. During take off from a dead stop, the car tends to jitter. Not a fast repetitive jitter, more like a slow, stalling out feeling. a go stop go stop go stop go that blends in to each perspective motion. Now when I purchased the car, it had already been modified by member CWR32. The mods included GIAC software, intake, exhaust as well as suspension, bar, skid plate and all of that good jazz.
What I am trying to figure out is if any of your cars do or has done the same, either stock or modified. I have read something stating that the software controlling transmissions such as DSG determines how smooth the transition of gears will be. Is it possible that the tranny software was upgraded, is this tranny REALLY that clunky, does yours tend to do the same.
There is also a slight tendency for the car to jar roughly when put into reverse or first if i let off the brake quickly.
So... I bought Ksport Coilovers and had them installed about a month ago. Were on the car about a week and started to get creaking noises from the front. So, I contacted BSH (who sold them) who put me in contact with the Director of Operations for Ksport...
Send them to him, and he replies that he thinks my sway bar is high, and that it should be "parallel with the ground. Today when backing up (down right) I get a horrible scraping grinding sound. I stop, get out (thinking it is the fender liner) only to find no damage. So I keep checking and find a fresh scrape on the axle. I drive (gingerly) home and pull the wheels off and check everything in the front. It is all tight and nothing seems to be broken. I look at the sway bar end (which is curved).
I just picked up my R32 2 days ago and I notice that when it shifts up semi-aggressive (around 4.5 rpm) there is a quick swish sound as the gear engages. It sounds like it is coming from the muffler system, in the rear. What it is?
View 12 RepliesI had a super loud metallic scraping and clanking noise when I was backing out of my driveway the other night. It was so loud I though my exhaust was dragging or something.
It turned out to be a rock trapped between the heat shield and rear brake disk. I pressed the heat shield away from the disk a bit and the rock fell out. It's kind of crazy that such a little rock caused such a loud sound.
Just installed FK Streetlines..... So everything is very tight in the back, before putting weight on the suspension I went over all the bolts and everything is tight. But I occasionally get a single or quick double pop sound from the right rear area, I can almost feel it in my seat/floor. But it's not frequent and not on smooth or rough roads really I can't find a pattern. Usually turning left and a little side to side undulation... Maybe. I've checked over everything. Car has 500mi. Suspension has 50mi maybe..
View 4 RepliesI picked my R up three weeks ago tomorrow. I took it in this morning because there has been brake noise from day one. The noise was a scraping, metal on metal sound that diminished a fair amount when the brakes were warm. I only got a very brief conversation with the service agent at the dealership this afternoon, and all he told me is that they had to order in new brakes. I don't know if it's just pads, or calipers or rotors or the whole deal! I'll get the whole scoop tomorrow.

View 6 RepliesSo, I had a great time rallying the 2003 1.8t when at some point it bottomed out. Now when driving the car, if you press on the brakes (firmly) the engine vibrates, almost like the idle wouldve droped a little bit... But, if you ease on the brakes (very slow stop) Everything is all good. This vibration only happens when you make a sudden quick stop. What could it be?? Is it idle control? an engine mount? clogged air filter? a vacuum leak? Misfire?. this is not my car, its a freinds.

My question is my warranty ran out,I had a 30,000 or three year and now I have 31,000 plus it's like the truck new when the warranty ran out. There is a TSB on it,10-22-6 NOV 10 Drivetrain - Driveshaft Slip/Bump On Accel. Or Braking... Will they do any thing for me,and how much would it cost me to have the work done at a shop.

I am going to pull the rear driveshaft and put in new grease MERCURY MARINE GREASE with TEFLON (2-4-c ) part nbr 92-802863A . How much do I need, will 8 ounces be enough.
View 3 RepliesI have an '05 accent with an auto trans. The car only has 25k on it with the original trans fluid. Every once in a while the trans will thud when coming to a quick stop. It actually doesn't even make a noise, but you can feel it going into presumably 1st gear. It only happens when I need to semi-quickly stop for a yellow light etc. right as I'm coming to a complete stop. Trans seems completely fine otherwise. Is this a normal thing? Just an older style/technology auto?

My '05 Equinox starts fine most of the time, but when I make a quick stop before its fully warmed up I have to slightly depress the accelerator to get it to start. Now I know with fuel injection this should't be happening but its been the case almost since the day I bought it. GM changed out the software in the computer and that seemed to work for a while, at least long enough for the warranty to end. It doesn't bother me but my wife wants the car now. What's up?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2003 B5.5 1.8T. Recently i started hearing a weird noice in the back of my car like something is loose or rolling around. Had the brakes checked and everything is fine. You only hear it when you stop real sudden or take off real sudden. You can hear it on the inside too but its much louder with the window down.
View 3 RepliesI've been catching up on some minor things with my car and have gotten to this one issue I've been having. When I take off from a stop I get a very slight click. Not every time but most of the time. It's a 2005 Elantra GT 5 speed. I replaced both axles due to torn boots. There is no play in the front end whatsoever, so I have ruled out ball joints and tie rod ends. Anything else I should look at?

1st) pulled quickly over to side of road, shut off truck. It would not start then. Towed it to service station and it started the next morning (with no repair made). I wonder if tow ride dislodged the the blockage in fuel line(?). Always sounds like it's going to turn over, but like not getting fuel.
2nd) Went to leave work, truck wouldn't start. Towed to my mechanic and he replaced fuel pump. Thought it was fixed because it ran fine until just the other day.
3rd) Slowed down to complete stop in heavy traffic and it stalled. Would not restart. Again sounded like it was going to start but didn't seem to be getting fuel. Good samaratins pushed me off road. Had it towed to mechanic. Started the next morning without any repair or service. It's like the tow ride and bumps getting it off the tow truck dislodges what ever is blocking the fuel line.
My mechanic replaced the fuel pump, but I don't think her replaced the fuel filter.
I have a 2001 Subaru outback. Recently I've noticed a rattle when I accelerate, especially when I take off from a dead stop. I sounds like it's coming from the front wheel area. It also occurs sometimes when making a turn and then accelerate. It almost sounds like an object in a box and someone is shaking the box-very noticeable.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2000 accent with 51000 miles on it. Since I bought it I have maybe put 75 miles on. The other day while going uptown to get lunch i was at a stop sign and i went to take off and it died. now all it does is fires for maybe a second and dies i have 50 lbs of pressure at the fuel rail. I dont have a scanner and i cant check it by jumping the pins under the dash because there is no. 15 pin.

My friend has a clunk/lag on take off from a dead stop only. Drives fine down the road, but when taking off from a complete stop, you step on the gas, and nothing happens for a second, feels like it lags, then clunks, gives a jerk, and takes off.
From talking to other newer Ford owners, seems like a common problem.
