Golf VI R :: Vibration When Shift From First To Second Gear

When I shift from first to second gear, especially when the car is still cold, I get a vibration(?) feeling through the shifter. I'm not shifting hard but not slow either. It's definitely not a grind but it only happens when shifting from first to second.

FYI- The car has ~550 miles on it.

F Series :: 2003 - Vibration Develop When Shift Into Fourth Gear

At work we bought a 2003 F-250 at an online auction. I was driving it home, and when it shifts into fourth gear, (overdrive) a vibration develops. When I pushed the overdrive lockout on the gear selector and it downshifts to 3rd the vibration pretty much goes away. Turn OD back on and it upshifts and the vibration is back. The transmission seems to shift through all the gears really good / smoothly and is glass smooth when you go from Reverse to Drive. What could this be; fourth gear going out, sticking valve in the tranny, drive shaft off balance? Just not sure where to start on this one.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Can't Shift Into Second Gear After Shift Linkage Done

So i was trying to adjust my freinds shift linkage on his o2j and i got a little ahead of myself and forgot to put the shift tower in the home position before making the adjustment. after i realized you can't shift into second ( either that or 2nd and 4th are extremely close together now and feel like the same gear ). I try to get it in home position even with the cables off ( did this for experimentation) and still wouldn't go into home position...meh. still have all the other gears including reverse .

I have a 2001 Lincoln Town Car that has an intermittent vibration that can be felt when seating in the car and you move the gear shift lever to D for drive. The car has 141,000 miles. It is an automatic transmission. The vibration cannot be felt when touching the steering wheel. What could be causing the vibration?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Very Hard To Get A Smooth Shift From Gear To Gear

Background facts:
Tranny swapped from my 4 speed auto to a 1.8t o2j 5spd
13lb. Light flywheel
Powerflex dogbone mounts
Peloquin LSD

The problem: Very hard to get a smooth shift from gear to gear. Trust me, I know how to drive, but I can always feel the car shifting into a different gear if you know what I'm saying. On my friend's bone stock Jetta, I just let the clutch out without gas in between shifts and you don't feel a thing.

On my car, you feel EVERYTHING. People have told me the light flywheel will make the ride more uncomfortable in many ways, especially since the RPMs drop much quicker in between shifts than stock.

Golf/GTI VII :: Vibration Or Feedback In The Shift Knob When Shifting Into Reverse?

Is it normal to occasionally feel a little vibration or feedback in the shift knob when putting the car into reverse? It happens whether the car is in the "Warm-Up" phase or not, and seems pretty random. Happens about 25% of the time. It doesn't last but a tenth of a second, and it just barely makes an audible noise when the window is rolled down. This is my first manual transmission car so I just don't have the experience to 'diagnose' this. And no, I'm not trying to put the car in reverse while the car is still rolling forward.

Golf/GTI VII :: Cannot Shift To 1st Gear Even On Low Speed

So my MK7 GTI is my first manual car...And I am having trouble doing slow speed maneuver most of the time...

I often found myself in a situation where the speed and the rpm of the car is too low for 2nd gear, and when I try to shift to first, it would't let me, unless I almost come to a complete stop....

I tried to press the clutch all the way in, then rev up the rpm, then release the clutch, but it doesn't work much, the car still jerks...

Golf VI R :: Won't Shift To Second Gear Under Load

So, in the last month or so I have been having trouble getting the car to go into second gear when mashing the go pedal. I have to try several times and seems to be that the car has to unload and then it will shift.

I am using the DG shifter and have been for 30k+ miles and I have the red HPA dogbone insert. The shift has not been a problem up until the last month or two.

Is it time for motor mounts?

Golf VI R :: Really Hard To Shift Into 1st Gear

I just finished the DG install yesterday. I am having a real problem with the first gear: it is really hard to shift into it (I mean hard!) - and several times I went into 3rd believing it was in 1st, while driving. I know that the DG is notchy and a little stiffer (which I like) but this does not feel right. I have to really push hard (moving slightly toward reverse) to shift into 1st. My wife would never be able to find it or shift into it (not that I let her drive my R that much...).

Note that all the other gears (2,3,4,5,6 and reverse) shift beautifully without any effort with that nice click. But not 1st.

What is it? Adjustment? I did it twice. I made sure that both cables were "all the way in" before tightening the first two bolts (and I made sure that the cables were not moving - a common problem with this install) with the engine lock on and pin in.

Golf IV R32 :: Having Vibration Only In 4th Gear

In addition to having some play in all gears, I am having vibration only in 4th. I put brand new oil in the trans, and I intend to do the cable adjustment and new bushing next weekend. I am concerned that this will not fix the problem though. It only happens in 4th and in addition to vibration, when alternating from being on the throttle to not i can see and feel the lever kick forward a bit (when off the gas) and snap back when i get back on the throttle. It has never actually popped out of gear, but it is definitely not normal.

2011 TDi 6 Speed (Sportwagon) with problems shifting into 2nd? Mine is currently in the shop under investigation for a balky shift when cold. The tech says it's not right, but then they find another vehicle in inventory with the same issue...currently waiting on a VW engineer.

So after my 500 mile break in I decide to see what my new set up is made of. Had the kinetics stage 3 and the south bend stage 3 clutch installed. Did my first launch...everything went great. Got just a little bit of spin and the car took off like a scud missile. Right as Im going to shift into second my Rpms go down fast. No weird noises no metallic sounds nothing. No fluid under the car. Only a slight clutch smell nothing crazy. Car wouldn't go into gear. Shut the car off and it goes into gear.

when i shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear, above 2500 rpms i get a really bad grinding, i am just under 50,000 miles so it is going to the dealership to get fix. It also kicks me out of second gear some time.

Golf VI R :: Clanking Noise When Shift From First To Second And Second To Third Gear

Sometimes when I shift from first to second and second to third I hear a clanking noise coming from under the car. It happens when I move the stick and clutch pedal is fully depressed. Doesn't happen all the time and doesn't happen in gears 4-6. Something I should be worried about? Car is stock and has about 1k miles. It's been doing this since I bought it.

Also get a deeper boom noise coming from back sometimes when depressing clutch petal when under boost. Think this is normal tho? My BMW used to do the same thing.

Car is perfect, cept when i shift into 6th its really grabby with a grind. does it every time.

Golf/GTI VII :: Won't Hold Boost Through Gear Shift

yesterday got the car tuned. Stage 2 APR, it's a 1.8T 5 speed and I only have 2 real issues with the tune.

1. They forgot left foot braking(I think I can call APR to have this sorted)

2. When accelerating hard and shifting a gear, no matter how you try it will not hold boost through a gear changed. Turning off ASR improves this greatly but it still purges pressure and as a result the car falls flat on its face. Then it spoils up and same thing in the next gear. Trying to hold wide open throttle through a gear change does not work as I believe it feels like the pressure plate isn't able to engage fast enough. It is a full on loud pshhhh purge could a possibly higher PSI Diverter Valve fix this.

No other APR car I've driven does this (given they were MkV and MkVI). I'm not quite sure what is different with the motor unless the stock Diverter is strictly for economy and as soon as you don't need boost it purges? Not really sure

Started noticing an issue with my trans awhile ago, the other day it stopped shifting out of first when cold. It's a 1.8T auto 5 speed tiptronic, it's the Jatco 09A. I know the shifting problem is the solenoids and it doesn't look that hard to swap them out. The trans shop said it looks like there is slippage on gears 2-4 and the fluid is toast. Looking at replacing or rebuilding, shop said 4-5 grand, how easy would it be to swap in a used trans? And what kind of issues would I be looking at?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Trans Will Not Shift From 3rd To 4th Gear

I replaced the old auto trans that was slipping in my 2000 golf with a same year auto trans from a beetle. The beetle had 115k miles and the PO toasted the 1.8t. I replaced the TCM also and when I finished the install I took it out for a drive this afternoon and when I shift it into drive it starts out in 3rd. It will manually shift through the gears but it will not shift from 3rd to 4th. Could I have left something unhooked? Is this a solenoid issue?

2200 Miles... It will not shift into 2nd gear in automatic and the rpms race up to 4000 when going about 20 mph. The only way to get it to work again is turning car off and on again. It has only happened twice.

Golf/GTI VII :: 2015 - No Smooth Up Shift With 3rd And 4th Gear

I've just got my 2015 GTI a few months. I'm driving manual with my GTI daily commute to work, getting along well. However sometimes I'll be struggling with the manual when approving a corner or a stop, and I'm not having a smooth up shift with 3rd and 4th gear (odd eh? most of the people will have difficulties starting up but since I've been taught so I'm fine...)

To be more specific:

1. Just want to know what REV usually will be done? e.g. 3rd gear with decent speed, would you maintain it until it revs up to 3k? or would you up shift when passing 2k+? Usually I'm doing the latter so I guess this is why I'm having a sluggish/jerky up shift with 3rd and 4th gear. And would you still put on a little bit gas when engaging with 3rd and 4th gear?

2. What to do when approaching stop? Assuming you don't have enough distance to down shift each gear. EITHER: Break with the current gear and clutch in until it reach 1k rev and complete stop; OR: down shift at least once to a lower gear and break until complete stop?
