Kia - Rio :: 2011 - Misfire At Idle And Low Speed?

Dec 10, 2015

My 2011 Kia Rio5 is misfiring bad, especially at idle and low speeds. I took it in to a non-dealer mechanic (since I'm no longer under warranty) and no codes came up. They said coil #3 was arcing, so they went ahead and replaced it and the spark plug. When I drove it home the car was misfiring more than ever. It misfired a couple years ago and I had a coil replaced (#3?) and a couple months after that it did it again. I could took it to another dealer (both happened while under warranty) and they said the reason the coil went out before was because the spark plugs were bad and hadn't been changed. So they replaced the #3 coil and spark plugs and it was fine until recently. I'm scheduled to take it to a kia dealer service dept. on friday, does this still seem like a coil issue? If not, what could it be?

Volvo :: 1986 - Engine Misfire At Idle Speed

1986 volvo turbo. I am at my wits end with my car. I know very little about car repair and maintenance and that alone makes me enraged.

So my car is very old and has not been taken care of before I owned it. It did misfire at idle speed before but very rarely, now it seems that ever since I put more oil in the misfires happen way more frequently.

I put in a synthetic 10w 30 oil and the engine is way more quiet now and the gas mileage is slightly better...but ever since I put it in the misfires are frequent. I do not know if it is a vacuum leak or a spark plug problem, or if it has something to do with the oil

Tiguan :: Misfire Occurs At Highway Speed Under Acceleration

Misfire occurs at highway speed under acceleration, the service writer stated "we have to do a coil swap" meaning they just swap them from around, and this is the SECOND time they have done this, according to them this is how VW wants them to address this, now I understand factory procedures cuz I work for a Porsche dealer, but wouldn't you think second time around you would replace those things.

Passat (B6) :: Shudders On Accelerating At Speed / Cylinder 1 Misfire

Our 2008 2.0T Variant with 70K miles runs fine, except while running fully warmed up on the highway. Then, at cruising speed, the engine shudders if you try anything more than gentle acceleration. If you push deliberately on the gas at about 1,500 rpm, the engine shudders, fails to accelerate, and the MIL flashes. This has been going on for a few months.

Wifey is about to go on a road trip and, although she's adjusted to this behavior, I don't wanted her stranded somewhere. The engine is throwing code P0301 (got it read at AutoZone), Cylinder 1 Misfire.

I'm wondering why it only misfires under these conditions, and not, say, while accelerating off the line or while idling.

Any tips? I've already put a bottle of Techron through the tank. Car has had all recall/service bulletin work done, which as I remember included a coil pack recall a few years ago.

I wonder if getting the car into the stealership before her trip is a "must." (I don't have my own scanning tool in order to sequentially troubleshoot coil packs. I can at least check plug wiring.

Prius V :: Misfire / Shaking At Cruising Speed Or Low RPM - Switching Between ICE And Electric

I bought my 2012 Prius v with 99,000 miles. It started running rough at around 110,000. Time for new spark plugs.
I installed new OEM plugs. Still rough. New ignition coils, Still rough. My car was shaking & jerking at any cruising speed, fast or slow. It seemed to have trouble switching between the ICE (engine) and electric motor. It made a continuous click click click noise at slow speeds. I would get up to speed and let off the gas a little and it would start going chug, chug, chug until I gave more gas. I hated driving my car. The shaking was giving me a headache. I investigated every posibility; Motor mounts, ECU, trans, changed the trans fluid, cleaned the EGR tube, CV shafts, torque limiter, VVT, sluging, tried fuel injector cleaner. I took it to the dealer. They said there was a misfire on #4 cylinder. I told them the ignition was all new but the #4 spark plug was discolored when I replaced it the second time. The mechanic said "That's it! It must be the fuel injector!" New injector installed, $488, still ran rough, still the chug chug chug and click click click. A few days ago, it ran so bad and so weak, it used up all the battery power and could barely stay running. I stopped for gas. I thought " maybe it's the EGR. I should just unplug it." BINGO !! It runs great !!!!! Smooth !!!!!! Better gas mileage. No chugging! No clicking!

Assume the bulletproof kit also cures the stiction problem? in reviewing the threads and looking at the vendors, references are made to fixing the oil cooler issue, egr issue, etc., but no one addresses stiction issue directly.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1990 2.9L - Bad Misfire After Doing A Tuneup / Bucks And Surges At Cruising Speed

My '90 Ranger is experiencing a pretty bad misfire after doing a tune-up. I changed the plugs (gapped to .045), wires, distibutor cap, rotor button, air filter, fuel filter, and cleaned the IAC. It had a barely noticeable miss before the tune up, that's why I did it. Now, it's pretty horrible.

At idle, it's definitely noticeable, and at cruising speeds (RPM's below 3K) it bucks and surges. The weird part about it is WOT runs are as smooth and (somewhat) powerful as ever! At idle in neutral it will revv up just fine without any hesitation as well.

First thing I did was check the firing order, again and again. Made sure all my wires were properly seated on the plugs and on the distributor prongs. Pulled the plugs back out, they were all clean and properly gapped. I pulled the wires off one by one to try to isolate the misfire, but every plug wire I removed made around the same impact on the motor.

Next I ran codes. KOEO, I got code 95 - fuel pump secondary circuit failure. Don't know what to do about this. Fuel pumps comes on at the turn of the key, relay clicks... KOER, I got 11 (pass code), so nothing there.

Then I hooked a fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve on the fuel rail, and at idle pressure was a steady 35 PSI. I also removed the vac. line to the FPR while running to see if gas came out. I checked for vac. leaks as well.

Now not sure what to check now. I've checked everything I know to check, but nothing works....

Passat (B5) :: Rough Idle At 800 RPM With Misfire

I got an 800rpm rough idle, no serious lack of power, every time after filling up w/ gas she starts slowly (bout 3 secs) and then tries to die. she catches herself and revs from 400-1200 for about a minute, then drives away fine. Getting:

17544 - P1136 Bank 1 : System too lean
16825 - P0441 Evap ECS : Incorrect flow
16684 - Random/Multiple cyl misfire detected (intermittent)
16688 - Cylinder 4 : Misfire detected (intermittent)

Also have: 01039 - Coolant temp sensor(g2) : open or short to plus? (intermittent)

Doubt the last has anything to do with BIG problem, but my temp sensor on ly gets off 0 when i am moving and using A/C...is this going to cause issue now/later/ever?

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Idle Seems To Almost Misfire When AC Is On

When at idle and it seems to either only do it or is worst when the ac is on. the idle seems to almost misfire. Usually its only for a couple seconds less then a min. I have had my odb2 hooked up to it and its about a 25-50rpm drop but it keeps doing over the course of a few seconds. It hasn't stalled doing it yet and its done it for years! however today at the drive thru it was quite aggressive. Usually I give it gas and its not as bad or completely stops, sometimes is doesn't work at all. This time I just let it keep doing it hoping a CEL would come due to it being more aggressive then ever but it just evened its self out after about 30 seconds. Almost feels like there is a mild performance cam in the car....

Touareg :: 2004 3.2L Misfire Only On Idle

I've got this Touareg that's just got this misfire only on idle. It sounds like it may be coming from the intake manifold itself, but I can't find any leaks when spraying carburetor cleaner. I tried smoking the system to check for leaks still no luck although the tool did indicate a leak we just couldn't find it!

Nissan - Misfire :: 2011 Rogue Lurching On Highway Usually Around 50 - 60 Mph

I have a 2011 Nissan Rogue that has lurched (or misfired?) about a handful of times. It only does it at highway speeds shortly after I've merged onto the highway, usually around 50-60mph. There is a loud thunk and it feels, for about a split second, that the car has stalled out. No warning lights come on, RPMs don't rev, and car resumes driving just fine after and hasn't yet repeated it on the same drive. It is very cold where we are, but the highway is at least 5-10mins from my house, so car usually has warmed up by the time we've gotten there. I've taken it in twice now to be looked at and neither times has it done this on their test drive. The shop yesterday didn't see any diagnostic codes either, so they didn't even know where to begin looking at possible issues...only suggestion was that I bring it in again after it happens again...I know next to nothing about cars, but it surprises me that they won't even check various possible issues to see if anything is out of whack, loose, etc...

Passat (B5) :: Random And Cylinder 1 Misfire At Idle And Low RPM

1999 Passat 2.8L. New coil pack assembly, wires, plugs, valve cover gasket(oil in plug holes). Misfire at idle and low rpm. Driving at higher rpm's misfire seems to go away. Codes are random misfire and cyl 1 misfire. Need to know if I would get an injector code if a fault or If that motor has problem with faulty cams or springs or any other common problems. I am going to do a compression check this weekend I'll update that info.....

Passat (B5) :: 1.8T - Rough Idle / CEL Came On / Misfire On Cylinder 4 And 2

So every once in a while I would start my car and get a rough idle but not too bad. I got a cel after a few times of this happening. I had a misfire on 1 and 4 and possible misfire on 2. It was ok for a a couple days. But during the last few days I'll start it up and it's fine. But then if I shut it off and restart it will have a rough idle again. Also today I got gas and then it rough idled and when I would shift or put it in neutral the rpm would stay up and drop slowly down. Like if I shifted gears I could almost do it without the rpms dropping at all. I've got 110k. ??

Corolla :: 2011 - Check Engine Light On / Random Misfire

I have a 2001 corolla with 37K mi on it. The check engine light came on today. Took it to advance auto parts to read the code. It showed P0171 (System too Lean) and P0300 (Random Misfire). Called up a toyota dealer and the technician think it might be bad gas. I buy gas at name brand gas stations and sometimes from BJs. I am not sure if the problem is with gas. I also been up to date with maintenance.

Jetta - Volkswagen :: 2011 - Ignition Coil Replaced, Car Misfire

My wife's 2011 Volkswagen Jetta (2.0 I believe) is misfiring again. We took it to the dealership about 6 months ago and they said that the ignition coil had gone bad. They replace the ignition coil and said that the plugs needed changing as well. I went to Auto Zone and got some decent plugs and changed them myself at home without much problem. It seemed to work with the problem (although it didn't seem to completely fix it) for a while, but it just recently went back to misfiring. The current symptom is that it seems to misfire when the car is warming up, but misfires less when the car is warm.

The dealership says that the plugs that we got were not recommended by the dealer (they recommended Bosch) and that they need to be replaced. I think this is BS and it is not going to fix the problem.

C/K :: 1998 K1500 5.7 Vortec Misfire At Idle But Only When Under A Load

I have a 98 k1500 5.7 vortec. I was driving and the next thing I knew my truck lost power and would misfire at an idle but only when under a load (in drive with foot on brake). The last time something like this happened an injector came out of place. So that's where I started. I wound up changing the whole spider injectors and ALL the gaskets, upper and lower. I put everything back together and the problem was still there so basically I am back to square one.

I then pulled spark plug wires while running to see if I could isolate the misfire and found that I could pull all 4 wires on the passenger side without any difference in while it was running. So basically my truck is currently running on 4 cylinders and they all happen to be on the driver side. I checked my compression on the passenger side and all 4 cylinders have 180 psi so that rules out the head gasket being blown. I am getting 4 codes , 520, p1345, p0155 and p0161. I know that i have to get tge truck properly timed with a computer but i don't think that would cause my problem.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Slight Misfire At Idle

I have a 2010 Corolla S with 130k miles and started developing what felt like a slight misfire at idle. Dealer suggested change the plugs and if not that try the coils. So I got the wrong plugs givin to me there 5/8s not 14mm. I found a socket that worked and thought the old ones where the same as the new ones.

The 5/8 socket fell right in and knew it wasn't the right size after the plug wasn't tuning. Then I searched and found out there 14mm plugs. So now the socket is stuck inside the metal tube that goes into the head. I tried a locking extensions, long needle nose, hook with a slide hammer, pb blaster, heat, crc freeze off. Even tried spinning it as pulling up with an impact.
