Upshifting is fine, downshifting gives me a big thud. Bigger from 3rd-2nd smaller 2nd-1st (I think).
2006 GS430. 120k or so miles.
Dealership replaced solenoid #2, but now say I need a whole new transmission.
When I am going into or downshifting to second gear in my GLI it makes a thud sound after I let out the clutch. It doesn't always happen and it does it if I just throw it down and if I don't have a perfect rev match. It just started a few days ago.
View 11 RepliesSo I just purchased an 07 gs350 104,000miles. Drove fine during test drive. Got it home (private party) and so far 3 times in 2 days, pulling away from a stop light throttle. Car moves forward but transmission slips to about 2000rpm and then a thud- as it re-engauges into I think first gear. Engine coolant was low (heater did not work), so I refilled. Did not overheat according to gauge. Tried resetting battery. Cannot see any sort of leak under car.

Once I slowed down back into my neighborhood it would make a thud, then feel like someone was pushing the brakes (even when i gave it gas). Then it would thud again and drive normal. I'm worried its the transmission getting ready to go. Any input?
View 14 RepliesWhen approaching a red light, if I take my foot off the gas to coast, it feels as if the transmission 'downshifts' at around 30mph. I can't actually feel the transmission shifting but there is a definite slowdown in speed, not just a gradual slowdown. Is this normal? I ask as doing the same in the '04 RX it does not do this.
View 5 RepliesMy daughter has a 2010 Sonata with a 4 cylinder and an automatic transmission. She is pretty frustrated with an intermittent problem. Every once in awhile, especially if the engine is cold, the car jerks while slowing down. She believes it is the transmission when it down shifts. I have driven the car and have not been able to duplicate the problem myself. The dealer recently changed the mapping for the transmission in hopes that would work but it hasn't. The dealer hasn't been able to duplicate the condition either.
View 52 RepliesHeard a clunk and then have the car feel like something from the inside is trying to stop it when using the paddle shifters in manual mode. Specifically when downshifting from 2 to 1. By the way I did a slight throttle blip, I have done this before with very smooth results but this time it really scared me, I though the transmission broke for a second; when the car did what it did.

When I'm coming to a stop, I feel the transmission downshifting from about gear 3. It's not wildly jerky or abrasive, but it's not smooth either (or I wouldn't feel it). When it downshifts, after it engages (or torques down for lack of a better term) it feels as if it releases a bit, which makes me have to compensate with harder braking (again, not saying I am slamming on the brakes, but I have to brake harder so it doesn't feel like I am now going to coast into the car in front of me). It doesn't feel like the transmission is going to take off on its own, but it definitely feels like it has a certain threshold it wants to stay above.
In the loaner I have (RX), when coming to a stop the best way I can describe it is it feels like the transmission has completely disengaged and I feel NO transmission downshifting at all. The only way I get this type of braking in my LS is if I throw it into Neutral and take the transmission out of the loop. On the way to the dealership this morning to drop it off for other issues, I was at a stop light and went to accelerate and it felt as if it skipped a gear because I was stalled for a second (acceleration wise, not that the engine turned off) before it took off as it should. Also my acceleration seems to be a little hesitant when starting off .
I have an 09 Sonata that jerks when automatically down shifting just before coming to a stop or slowing to make sharp turn. Car has 130k miles and I've never changed transmission fluid. BTW...it's been a GREAT car!

View 21 RepliesMy 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe as reached 40 MPH. While driving, after slowing down then giving the car gas, it would make a very loud thud and I would be jolted forward. At times it sounded like the transmission was going to be left on the roadway. Is it common problem?
View 2 RepliesMy son has a 2002 Honda Civic, 4 cyl, manual trans, front wheel drive, 110K mi. There is a random extremely loud thud-like noise coming from under the hood that sounds like someone hitting the car with a sledge hammer and can be felt in the steering wheel and in the gear shift knob. The thudding happens occasionally when first starting up the car but mostly starts happening after driving it after 10 minutes or so. The thudding occurs both while driving and when stopped (at stop lights for example.) The thudding doesn't increase in frequency with an increase in speed. The noise is so loud that it sounds like everything under the hood will fall out. On rare occasions it can be driven for 30 minutes or so around town without making any noise, most times however it will eventually start making noise. I've replaced the struts which were leaking but the noise still occurs. What could be the problem?

View 19 RepliesI drive a 2004 Hyundai Elantra with 72,000 miles on it. For the last few weeks, I've been hearing loud thud sounds on the passenger side when the car is cold or fairly cold. It almost sounds like someone is throwing tennis balls at the passenger side door while I'm driving. It happens when I'm stopped or when I'm driving - either way. Today, the Check Engine light went on; I don't know if it's related.
View 2 RepliesI took my 2005 V6 'Reg into the dealership for service. It has about 6700 miles. The problem is it sounds like the amp is 'clipping', which means there is a loud electric 'thud' sound when I lock/unlock the doors. While there I asked the service advisor to do all applicable TSBs and informed her that sometimes the CD player won't eject the CD. Lastly, I advised them that the wipers made a really loud sound when they wipe.
Well, this dealership does not have loaner cars available. They have outsourced them to Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The dealership will pay $30 per day and I am responsible for the taxes, which are 15% of the $30 per day. Is this fair? I don't think I should be responsible for paying taxes for a rental car (a Mitsu Lancer or VW Jetta were my two choices, no less).
So I was turning into my neighborhood tonite, when I got a really loud thud and a major hesitation in the engine. Fortunately I was in my neighborhood and could basically coast to my house.
No CEL came on and I don't seem to have any leakage (only thing dripping underneath was condensation from a/c I believe). Obviously too late for service tonite, so have tow scheduled for 7am. What could have happened? The no CEL has me confused. I was able to restart it and it seems to idle fine, but give it has and it hesitates.
2012 SE with 4 cylinder 35K miles. When the front wheels go over a speed bump at a couple of miles per hour I get a noise which sounds like something hitting the floor board of the car. It is a loud single thud. Much deeper and louder than a loose seat would make.
View 7 RepliesSo this phenomenon only happens when I try to rapidly open my throttle but what happens is that I feel a huge bucking in the rear while I'm accelerating.
This bucking makes a loud thud noise and I was wondering if this is normal considering the circumstances under which this occurs.
If I can guess what's happening I think my engine doesn't have enough air and when I rapidly push down the accelerator I'm trying to force in air and fuel and the result is a rapid combustion which causes the bucking effect that I'm experiencing.
Alright, been tuned for a few months now, APR stage I. When I turn off ESP and make a quick acceleration from stop sometimes I hear a loud thud from under the car when the car changes from 1st to 2nd gear, like someones hitting as hard as they can with a mallet. It only seems to happen when I have ESP turned off though. Any thoughts? It sounds like its horrible for my transmission, its probably happened 3 times in the last couple weeks but now I'm afraid to peel out fast in my car because of possible damage to the transmission. Could it be the valve body that's in recall? Or some other issue?
Guess its pertinent to mention, 06 2.0T with Triptonic and 72k miles.
When I come to a stop in S mode theres sometimes a noticeable thud as the transmission shifts down. Is this something I should be concerned about or want to try to fix?
