I love my 2005 GX 470, but the A/C takes a few minutes of driving to get cold. It eventually performs like it should, but it shouldn't take 5+ minutes for the output to be cold I wouldn't think ...
IS THIS NORMAL for this vehicle or is there an issue? what is YOUR experience? My MDX will freeze you out after about 20 seconds of operation ...
I have a 2005 GX470 with about 50K miles. Over the last few weeks it started exhibiting a weird problem. When accelerating above 20-25 MPH it starts shaking. Not the steering wheel. The entire car is shaking as if driving over rocks. It is pretty annoying, and I am now concerned as it seems to have gotten somewhat worse than before.
Tires are rebalanced and rotated, so i dont thing it is that. My wife is freaking out, as she is driving it with 2 small kids.
My GX and I are in the south and I sometimes have to leave it parked outside all day in 100F+ temperatures during the summer. Needless to say it gets extremely hot inside and sometimes takes a while to cool down. I started using my rear AC on full in conjunction with my main AC to facilitate cooling off the interior of the vehicle. I do this even when I'm by myself because... if I'm not mistaken... the rear AC uses a completely separate unit including a separate compressor. So it seems that it would cool things down faster running both systems. Can verify that the rear unit is completely independent of the main AC system?
View 6 RepliesOK, so I recently purchased this car. When I turn the AC on, it literally takes 5-10 minutes for the ac to turn cold. Just the other day, I turned it on and nothing happen. The heat or the AC didn't kick on. Nothing was coming from the vents. What could be going on?

View 3 RepliesI have a 2006 GX 470 with 130,000 miles on it. Recently, when driving on long trips I have noticed that the SRS bag light will come on after we stop after driving for a while. To be a little clearer, the car will start normally when cold, all dash lights will go through their sequencing and turn off. We will drive for a distance which will be long enough to heat everything up, say to the mall or a restaurant.
When we return to the car and I start it all lights go thru their sequencing and the SRS light stays on. Next morning, after the car has cooled, everything is normal again. Lexus says it is the 89170-60241 sensor assembly that is $489.26 plus $310.95 in labor to replace. While I have owned the car I have successfully replaced the air suspension rear sensors and all the O2 sensors and recently did an engine swap with my son on his Toyota Supra so I think I can handle the repair. Where is the sensor located and how is it accessed??
I own a 2007 Camry LE. It's 4 cylinder and has 80k miles. Since I can remember, the A/C takes a really long time to start blowing cold air.
I'm in Miami, where ambient temp is about 90 F every day and it takes about 2-3 minutes to blow cold air. I can tell because this usually happens when I get around a certain street (SW 40th Street), so the problem is self-replicating regularly.
My father is a house A/C mechanic and he filled it with refrigerant but this has not fixed the problem. If the car has been driven and been parked under shade, the A/C blows cold air since the start. After being driven for 2-3 minutes, it blows cold air like a monster, I usually have to run it on 70 % cold and low fan - that's how well it performs.
Rear heating system in my Lexus GX470 only blows cold air, what could be the problem. Front heater works fine.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2005 GX 470, I noticed a sound, like that of a belt being loose, the sound came from the front of the truck. A few minutes later the AC stopped cooling, it was blowing really hot air and then the temperature of the engine went really high. I stopped on the side of the road, when we opened the hood, the belt was not broken but there was antifreeze everywhere.
View 5 RepliesFor the past week, my wife's 2004 GX A/C has been blowing hot air off and on. At first I thought this was due to low refrigerant but after pressure testing it appears to be full. Yesterday afternoon I was driving the car home and the A/C was blowing cool air then suddenly stopped again, I happened to look at the engine temperature gauge and noticed it creeping to "H". I shut down the air all together, pulled over and it cooled. The gauge actually stayed below the half way point the rest of the way home, until I had to stop at a light, then it slowly climbed up to the "H" again, the lowered as I drove to a cruising speed 55MPH. One home, I looked at the coolant reservoir and there was no fluid in it (not sure if this is normal) and there was no sign of smoke or fluid leaking. Could this be a thermostat issue, radiator issue, loss coolant issue???
View 7 RepliesI have a 05 gx470 and I was having trouble with the rear staying bottomed out and not pumping up. I replaced both ride height sensors. Nothing changed until about 1 hour of driving the compressor kicked on. it road better but still bottomed out some. So I raised the sensors about 5mm. it road great for about 10 miles then went back to riding on the axles. No compressor activity. Also when the compressor is not engaging the push buttons do nothing with changing the dash from H-N-L no matter when you push it. If you hear the compressor running all the buttons will work just fine. I have a useless car because it is not safe to drive when its riding on the axle bump stops.

This is something else. I have been to other states such as TX AZ NM & NV and this problem does not exist.

I just had the TSB for the "Clunk" issue fixed and I had a tire sensor that was leaking and had that fixed.
The ONLY other issue I am having is that there is a vibration at between 1250-2000 RPM and it's most prevalent at 1500 RPM, but it is gone above 2000 RPM. This happens while in park and hitting the accelerator to get to those RPM and it happens in all gears while driving, which is especially annoying because the SUV typically is sitting right at 1500 RPM while driving.
The Lexus dealer thought the driveshaft TSB would take care of the vibration, but it didn't.
What the front wheel well liner shields that are held in by plastic clips are called there are made out of rubber cardboard fiberish material they keep water and debrie from getting in through the wheel wells. Need to know the part number.
View 6 RepliesMy wife started up my 2005 GX470 this morning to go to work and drove maybe a half mile before she noticed a problem. So she turned around and drove it back home in limp mode. She put it in park and got out.
Most of the Warning Lights are on ( VSC OFF, VSC TRAC, Anti Skid, Check Engine etc). I tried moving the shift lever but there was some resistance and some grinding noises. And it now seems to be stuck in neutral.
How to diagnose this myself? We only drive this vehicle in the winter, and it was fine the last time we used it.
I just purchased a used a Lexus GX470. The transmission seems to do something fairly consistently that seemed unusual to us, but we are new to this car so I'm not sure if it is normal, abnormal, or a sign of something big to come.
When starting from a complete stop, upon removing your foot from the brake, there is a noticeable mini-surge in the engine as the transmission engages, and the sensation seems to repeat when the transmission is disengaging as you brake to stop.
Does this sound normal? From searching on google, I have read that there are issues with "hard shifting" but this does not seem to happen with shifting...just when the transmission engages or disengages, and it isn't a big 'bump' as much as a mini-surge. I have also read where it could be related to something electrical such as the air conditioner.
The car is under warranty, but the service department notes no error codes when they scanned the engine.
A Lexus dealer in NJ told me my 2005 GX470 front axle boots leaking, they gave me a quote to re-build both side.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2005 GX470 with 96,000 miles. Yesterday, while going on a 500 mile road trip the car stalled suddenly while traveling about 75mph on the interstate. It would start surging and then just stall completely. I pulled over.. Let the car sit for a minute and then it started right back up with no trouble. It did this to me 4 times on the trip about 80-100 miles between issues. The last time it was while accelerating hard up hill. All other electrical functions.. Radio, lights, etc... continued to work fine. I don't recall the cel ever coming on and even if it did it wasn't on when it restarts. It was 100 degrees out.
I'm on vacation so wanted to get it checked put before we head home but curious on thoughts of what it might be? I was thinking clogged fuel filter or MAS but the fact that it restarts right up after stalling makes me ink it might be more of an electrical issue.
I have been reading some mixed reviews here in regards to the "CLUNK". I am referring to that feeling as if hit from behind shortly after coming to a stop. Some are saying it still exists in the 2005 while others are implying that it has been resolved.
Just to be perfectly clear.... Has experienced this "Clunk" in a 2005 GX?
1999 Accord, 110k mi., stalls while driving or stopped a few times a week, then takes a couple of minutes to turn over. Mechanic replaced or cleaned main relay, fuel pump, and ignition module. Could sell it but recently rebuilt tranny and replaced timing belt. Mechanic is stumped.
