I have the classic ticking sound on acceleration. I had a muffler shop check it out and the tech said he thinks the passenger side exhaust manifold has a leak. I have already replaced the whole manifold and cat on the drivers side. Could it be just the gasket? The ticking is coming from the top near the engine and not the cat. Is it a pain to replace the gasket?
View 14 RepliesThe sound comes from under the dash. recently the blinkers stopped working all together so I tracked down the problem to the hazard light switch and replaced that and the blinkers are working now. However, the clicking sound remains and seems to happen more just after using the turn signal but the sound happens randomly as well.
I'm thinking it might be the turn signal assembly located on the steering column. So, I was thinking of replacing the unit (it has both signal lever and wiper/wash lever) .
I'm not sure if I've just gotten used to the sound of the car or what but lately, it seems like the engine is ticking pretty loudly. It runs perfectly and I didn't think much of it until my friend commented on it. Sounds like it is coming from the drivers side (mainly).

Pulled over and there wasn't a drop of oil on the stick. It started with about a qt every 1000 miles or so, now it's to the point that I have to put a qt in about every 3 days (1-200 miles)
We cannot see oil anywhere, last I checked the plugs had carbon build up but were not wet. (Recently) We also hear a ticking sound during hard acceleration and a good bit of black smoke coming from the exhaust.
We still owe 5k on it, it's our first new car and I'm terrified the thing is going to blow up before I pay it off. Tonight as I was about to get in the car with her I heard the clicking sound again but this time it was full (just added some yesterday). I have compression and leak down testers, know a little bit but I am nowhere near a "mechanic".
I noticed my 3.6L 4Motion is making a hard thump/ticking sound when the car accelerates from stop, and also on turns. I'm going to schedule service for the car next week and I wanted to get a little educated insight. This is strange because I just had two of my cats replaced last week.
View 4 RepliesFor the last couple of years, I've noticed the air flow changes from the floor to the defroster under hard acceleration. Not a big deal. This morning (7 degrees) the airflow was changing under light to moderate acceleration. It's a vacuum problem, but is there anything in particular I should be looking at? The car is running fine, no issues with stalling or hesitation.
View 4 RepliesI have a slight ticking/rattle noise under light acceleration. When I get on the on ramp and start accelerating as the rpms go up there is a sweet spot at lower rpm where you can hear it rattle and as the rpms increase it suddenly stops. Its not tied directly to the RPM, but seems to be harmonic or related to a certain frequency. I haven't been able to recreate it in the parking lot. Water pump seems ok, no visible leakage. Hasn't thrown any codes and doesn't sound like pinging/bad gas.

Engine sounds normal at start/idle (hot and cold). During acceleration I hear a constant ticking/tapping/clattering at a decent volume from 1st to 3rd..after 3rd it quiets down a bit but still constant. It goes away completely directly after shifting into 4th. I then cruise down the highway at 75-80 with no problem whatsoever.(It can also be heard if i rev the engine in park.)
The day I noticed it i immediately checked the oil. It was a little over a quart low. I filled it but the sound has not changed.
I wouldn't say its a full on knock but it does sound alarming like the engine could blow at any moment from 1st to 4th. Sounds perfectly fine after that.
Had the car for over a week now, noticing a clicking or ticking sound at idle- i.e. no radio and at a stop light. Slightly annoying, but the car has been great otherwise.

It is not when i am making turns, just sitting idle with the wheels straight.
Slight ticking sound or light rattling that is coming from the pillar where the seatbelts are anchored? Hate to bring it to the dealer and have them tell me the sound is not there if its something I can fix on my own.
View 1 RepliesHere is the thing, this did not start until after I got a coolant flush, and went to get some gas. I was thinking dirty fuel injectors, so I put the Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner in with the next full tank of gas, and it didn't do anything.
There is a ticking sound, and the car sounds like a freight train chugging. The car still runs and still has great performance than ever before (due to the new plugs)
Here is what I have done:
Ran motor flush
Changed oil + Lucas Oil Additive
Changed all 4 Spark Plugs (replaced crappy Autolite with NGK Platinum)
Changed Power Steering Fluid (flushed)
Changed Coolant (flushed)
Cleaned the throttle body and intake
Drained through and filled up gas again + Lucas Fuel Stuff
You can't really hear it from inside the car, and it only seems to be happening after the car has been warmed up. It does not happen during a cold start at all (in the mornings).
The ticking sound stopped for a bit when I ran the motor flush, and changed the oil. Now the sound is still there, but it is A LOT less annoying than before. The car also has A LOT better performance with the new plugs, I seem to be able to take off a lot better at lights.
Here is what I still need to do:
Change the engine air filter.
Double check the throttle body and intake.
It is a 2004 Camry with 182,000 Miles. The ticking didn't start until after it came back from the shop, which has me suspicious. Shop claims nothing is wrong, which is a load of BS.
What I am thinking:
Stuck valve
Lifters
STILL dirty intake (shop could have done nothing and charged me for it)
I have a 2013 LS in which I leave my iPod plugged in all the time. It usually plays perfectly. However, it frequently loses connection for no apparent reason and the audio shuts off. When I turn the audio back on the iPod is not shown on the menu. I have to dig it out of the console and remove and reinsert the plug. The iPod then shows up on the menu and all is well for a while.

View 3 RepliesI have a 04 f150 fx4 with the 5.4 v8. My truck has a tick to it. It does it all the time, hot, cold, at idle, and while driving. I thought it was a cam phaser but I've been hearing people say bad cam phasers make the engine sound like a diesel engine. My does not sound like a diesel it just makes a ticking sound, my dad says it sounds like a 350 with a rod knocking, however now that it doesn't sound like a diesel I am wondering if it could be the vct.
View 2 RepliesStarted my truck (2007 EB 4x4, 5.4) this morning with my daughter in her car seat behind me, we get about 1/4 mile down the street and all of a sudden I notice myself moving!
My daughter starts freaking out, I pull over and my seat is still moving. I end up COMPLETELY reclined, all the way down and all the way back. The seat pinned my daughter in her seat, she's flipping out...I had to unbuckle her car seat while she's screaming because her legs are pinned and have to slide her car seat out sideways with her in it.
Seat does NOT move at all.
Now, before all of this I had heard a "ticking" sound coming from inside my seat, been doing it for months but since everything worked and not dummy lights came on I just ignored it. Apparently, this was not a good idea because now it is not ticking and the seat is not working....
I have a 2007 F150 King Ranch Super Crew 5.4 3v and it makes a ticking sound. I have read about the VCT solenoids and the phasers. My issue is that the ticking noise can be heard at Highway speeds. At it seems to be quicker as the engine speed increase. Not sure what to think. No rough idle. What could this be.
View 3 RepliesI just bought this truck yesterday. During the test drive and everything it seemed all fine. After all the paperwork and the truck was actually mine. I noticed once it is all warmed up it seems to have a slight knock/tick? and a slight miss to it. I shot a couple videos, one up underneath where it sounds like most of the noise is coming from. Could it be an exhaust leak? Or is it something internal? Like the Cam Phasers, or a rod or something!

My husband's 04 F150 has an occasional ticking/clicking sound that comes from the right rear tire. It occurs in both drive and reverse, while braking or while driving and will stop with braking. We cannot establish a pattern. Brakes are good, we just checked them and they do not need to be replaced. We took it in to be evaluated, of course it did not make the clicking while they had it and they did not see anything to indicate an issue.

(my wife works close by- thought it would be safer than driving in the 10 inches of snow we got 3 days in a row) so, I go to pick her up tonight and I engage 4hi.. I hear the click and the light comes on.. but no clunk of the hubs locking.. I drop it in 4 lo.. it shifts in low.. but the hubs are not locking..
I hear a ticking sound as I drive and when I put it in 2wd it goes away. I turn off the truck, turn the wheel hard both ways .. get out and I can physically turn the drive shaft and I hear the ticking in the hubs. If I read correctly when the truck is off these should be locked?
is it possible the vacuum is not releasing? I also get the groaning when I start up of the air diverter.. that im told is operated by vacuum.. so I am guessing I have a vacuum problem??
The front driver's side wheel of my 2007 Ext. Cab makes a speed-related "ticking" sound. It's usually audible but not always there. I look for rocks in the tread of my BFG All-Terrains and sometimes I find some, sometimes not. The noise seems to be independent although some of the rocks really get up in there. Sometimes its really loud and it sounds like a rock. Bearing? 4WD CV or U-Joints or whatever?
