I have a 2015 is350 f sport. I don't know if this is normal, but my shift knob is very loose. I can literally take my thumb and pointer finger and turn it either way with almost any pressure. When I turn it, the leather seems to be attached, and turns with the shifter when I turn it to the right to tighten it.
View 13 RepliesThe only serious problem i can't quite figure out is how to attach the shifter "knob" to the stalk. I see how the stock knob is attached, but i will be using an aluminium rod so clamping wont be a great idea. I have thought of removing the stalk and drilling a set of holes through it and running bolts to hold them together, but it isn't that big of a diameter and also i don't like the though of one of those nuts coming loose and messing up my shifting. My nest idea was epoxy, but I still would like to remove it if perhaps one day i wanted to. So there's my dilemma.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2010 Prius no frills model with 5500 miles on it. I've started hearing a noise that sounds like loud burst of radio static. I hear it with the radio off or on. It's very intermittent, but seems to occur only at freeway speeds. Seems to be coming from underneath the shifter or underneath the dash in the same area.
View 2 RepliesI have my GTi, a week ago I broke an axle. I was then convinced by friends the clutch went out. So I said screw it and bought a Southbend Stage 2 Daily. When I get it I go to install it, then find out I have a Broken half shaft. So after taking the tranny out to install the clutch anyways and everything goes alright for the most part. (250k miles so that's why I never returned new clutch)
SO I get everything together. Tires spins. Car goes all is good.
Clutch is super spongy as I need to bleed it. But my problem is the shifter knob is super sloppy. Feels like is a whole section lower. It's hard to engage second as I have to double tap it in with a good throw. Everything is right on the shift tower. And seems like it clicks right into all the gears. But the physical knob feels super sloppy and out of place. First, third and 5th are all super far up and seems like it double clicks after putting it into gear. Like if there was a gear above. Kinda weird to explain. I've done the home alignment on the tower and nob, but only have a bolt that was 4.71 mm. So the cables should be really close to being aligned right. But I can't grab second at high Rpms.
I also need to do my drain and fill. So would it be a drain and fill and clutch bleeding will fix my sloppy shifter? Before I did everything it was tight. Felt right.
Ok. I replace my alternator on my 1995 Subaru Legacy Ls. Everything went great. Last thing I did was to connect the positive cable on the battery. When I did it sparked alittle. Well when I got into the car to start it nothing. Turn the key nothing. The knob on the shifter won't go in to get out of park. Neighbor checked my battery said it was fine. But nothing will come on. Nothing.No lights. I had problems with my ignition before. Do you think my ignition went out? Honestly don't know what to think. Some one told me that these cars have a secondary security system. If it goes on you cannot move the knob on the shifter and when you turn the key on nothing?
View 2 RepliesMy father purchased the 2015 GX460 this past January and the car currently has 4,500 miles. The first complementary oil change was completed in July. I feel that the brake of his GX460 is not sensitive enough, and I have to step on the brake very hard to feel the truck stopping. Does every GX460 owner feel the same way? I told my father about this, and he said I'm just not used to it. I'm thinking about taking his truck back to Lexus to check it out.
The dashboard so far doesn't indicate any ABS problem. By the way, I'm an owner of a 2014 IS350 F-Sports, and my 350's brakes are much better in my opinion. I'm not sure whether my experience of my 350, which has larger brake calipers for its size, has influenced me to draw such conclusion about the GX460 brakes.
Also, I notice that when I step on/release the GX460 pedals, I hear some noise that sounds like air. Did some research about this on the forum, and some of you have that too. I still don't understand this issue.
I have a 2014 GTI 6MT, and am trying to figure out if, when I got the car 3 months ago new, the shift knob was loose, or tight. Right now, I just noticed it has the lateral rotation (left/right) maybe 1/8" or so. Just can't remember when I got it, if I noticed that.
Shift knob had lateral rotation when you got your car, or shortly thereafter?
Having this issue? 2016 IS350 F-Sport. Car has 2700 Miles on it.
View 14 RepliesBeen having this weird shushing noise since I got the car, never figured out where it was coming from, only knew it was coming from the vents. Told a Master Technician at the dealer about it and he thought it was something loose in the engine department.
Finally figured it out, its when the fan is on and the vent setting set to Wind shield and foot area. All the other settings were ok.
My 2006 Elantra is having a problem I think within the shifting box area. When the cars and park I have a 50-50 chance of the vehicle starting. This does not have anything to do with the break or the switch on the side of the shifter. The transmission while driving is fun and there is no slippage between the gears.
I've opened up the gearbox area and I found we're at the shifter hard into park forwards the car seems to start more consistently. The shifter seems to be very slightly loose. The little orange marks indicating the placement of the shift is not "aligned" with park. It's a bit off. However when I opened the gearbox and I push the cable on the right of the shifter forwards and turn the key, the car consistently starts. Now, I'm wondering if this problem with the cable or maybe a switch in the front? Parts to replace?
I've a 2002 Subaru Forester, manual transmission. The gear shifter is very loose. While in any gear, the shifter can move to anywhere. For example, when in second gear making a left turn, the gear shifter will flop to the right side near where third or fourth gear are. This doesn't change the gear of operation that the car is in. It just makes it a bit of a challenge to find where the gears are. Sometimes it is a challenge to find reverse.
We've had the shifter bushings replaced and that tightened things somewhat. But it is still very loose.
Mechanics have said that there is nothing wrong with the motion or the way the linkage operates the transmission. So the problem seems to be in the gear shifter.
Is this common on this car?Is it a sign of a bigger problem?What can be done about it?
My mom's 95 shifter is slowly getting worse. Right now it's at the point where we have to hunt for gears just to put it into park or reverse or d/od. It's not stiff like the rest of ours, hers is all sloppy and loose. She says it's been doing this for a while, but i think it got worse when i pulled her cluster out to change the light bulbs. I say this because i couldn't get the needle cable un done, so i just let the cluster rest on it while i was changing the bulbs, which put a little bit of tension on it.
View 14 RepliesOkay, so I am not really sure where to post this. I have one of the weird 1999 F-250s that aren't a SD. The shifter is pretty loose, about 4-5 inches of play while in gear. Shifting isn't a problem, just the play in the shifter that I worry about. I have been trying to find rebuild kits, but can only find stuff for Rangers/Mazdas.
View 7 RepliesI just bought my car and one night I wanted to see if I can play DVDs and put a dvd cd in there and it read that its a dvd and played the sound and everything. I was PARKED and everything.
I'm guessing the 2015 IS250 Fsport can't play DVD.
Loving my 2016 on day one, When I picked the car up last night I noticed that the shifter was not illuminated either by a spotlight like on my wife's 2010, or internally. The knob is a pretty blue plastic that sure looks like it should be illuminated from the inside.

I have opened up the bottom cover, but am not sure where to move the shift forks to get it back to neutral. I bought a new shifter, but I need to get the tranny back to neutral before I can install it.

View 8 RepliesSo I purchased my 2015 Lexus IS 350 AWD F-Sport back in October and experienced the following issues:
1. Brake squeal
- seems to occur when reversing out of a parking spot for example, so annoying and extremely loud, makes it sound like my brakes need changing
2. Bluetooth Radio
- there are times where my phone connects to the radio, plays music off my iPhone but then it sounds like the singer is slowly dying i.e.: the type of sound you used to hear when a walkman's batteries would be dying and needed changing. Happens sporadically
3. Gas tank lid on side of car won't close fully
- this happened just this week. I couldn't close my gas lid, no matter what I did. I managed to get it closed today after starting my car, wonder if its related at all to power/engine being on etc?
4. Buzzing in gas pedal resonates through foot
- this one is still driving me insane. Drive my car for 10-15 minutes on the highway and your foot feels like pins/needles from the buzzing sensation from the gas pedal.
My 2015 IS250 base model wipers don't resume while is enabled after I turned off the car. Is it suppose to resume after I turn on the car if I don't turn off the wiper?
