Lexus RX 2004-09 :: 2008 - Wheel Slippage When Applying Brake In Snow

Feb 5, 2015

This morning I was driving my 08 Lexus RX350 in fresh snow in Boston area. When I applied brake I noticed the wheel slipping/sliding and I heard brake noise (some sort of cracking noise - I don't know how to define that sound :-). It was fresh snow, may be an inch or two and I was driving around 10 miles. I have to pound on the brakes and it took few seconds before it stopped and I narrowly avoid hitting the suv in front of me.

I was driving with all season tires and ECT snow mode was not on during that time. Could that be a problem?

A week back I replaced the rear brake pads (akebono ceramic) & rotors (raybestos) at a local garage. Will it be a problem with the way it is replaced? or will there be any issue with ABS?

Ford - Explorer :: 2008 V8 - Wheel Slippage When Taking Off From A Stop

I have a 2008 4wd V8 Ford Explorer Limited. About 9 months ago I had both front wheel bearings replaced. Immediately after they were replaced, I noticed a strange, new symptom. When taking off from a stop (either headed straight or turning), about 10-20% of the time I will get some wheel slippage.

I can feel the gears slipping, I don't think the tires are actually spinning and I'm definitely not flooring it and losing traction due to engine torque. When this slippage occurs, the loss of traction light goes on, and it always goes away in a matter of seconds and then everything is fine.

Once I noticed this happening I took it to the Ford dealership but they couldn't diagnose it since I couldn't mimic the problem with them riding in the car. They said it shouldn't have anything to do with the wheel bearings they replaced, but I think there may be an electrical connection that wasn't re-attached properly??

Lexus LS 2007+ :: Squeal On And Off When Applying Brake

I just purchased a LS 460 2007, 64k miles. The brake when apply squeal, but not all the time when the break is applied. 5 times out of 10 times when you apply the break when driving the car for more than 20 minutes it start to squeal. It does not squeal when you first drive in the morning, but after driving more than 20 minutes, when you apply the brake - it will squeal on and off during various application of the break. Does the LS460 have brake indicator that would squeal all the time when you need new break? I am not sure what the sign that LS460 would need new break and rotor.....

Golf IV R32 :: 2004 - While Going Uphill / On Snow Two Front Wheel Spun?

When in reverse going uphill on my snow covered driveway (backing in), I noticed that the two front wheels spun, but only the passenger side rear wheel spun. The evidence was that the car did not move up the hill and the tires made ice patches where the three wheels spun. Is this normal?

Lexus IS 2014+ :: IS350 F Sport Making Noise From Driver Front Wheel When Applying Brakes

My car is making this noise from the driver's front wheel when applying the brakes and EVEN CLUELESS AND SURPRISINGLY the noise shows up when cruising at low speed (haven't try freeway speed yet) without stepping on the brakes.

This just happened to me tonight, car is around 10,000 miles, I'm going to take it into the dealer to see what the hell is with Lexus. I suspect it might be the rotors and built in brake dusts, I just don't know, but the noise is unusual enough to be concern about.

I doubt it's the built in brake dusts because previously I've not washed my car/ wheel for a longer period of time, but I'm not sure. Could it just be that my rotor is done?

I know the front brakes need a replacement soon, but it shouldn't be my brakes since the noise still shows up even when I don't step on the brake pedal, unless the car brakes for me itself......

I cant take it into the dealer until weekend, hopefully it's safe to drive around within the next 2 days.

Prius (2004-09) :: 2007 - Suspension Squeaking Noise While Applying Brake

It's a 07 prius with 65k miles. I realized that it is making this squeaking noise while going over bumps "ONLY" when the brakes are applied.

I have 2 toyota dealerships checked. 1st dealer said no noise and 2nd dealer also said no noise... then, i requested to drive with the mechanic and he somehow heard the noise while I am in the car.

I posted a youtube video w/ iphone video if you feel like hearing the noise...

Lexus RX 2004-09 :: What Is The Function Of ECT Snow Switch

Just purchased a 2007 RX350 w/front wheel drive. We just had our first snow storm in Boston. The manual says to use the ECT SNOW switch when it's slippery. Around here, it's slippery a LOT! What exactly does that switch do? Should I leave it on the majority of the time will my mileage get worse?

Is it acting in effect, like 4-wheel drive?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2004 - Brake Pedal Seems To Put Pressure Back When Applying Brakes

So I have a 2004 Jetta 1.8t. Recently I noticed an issue with the brakes. It is a rare occurrence that this issue happens. Maybe 1 out 6 times I slowly stop the brake pedal seems to put pressure back against me applying brake pressure and makes somewhat of a grinding noise and the brakes don't seem to grab as well. But a split second later the brakes return to normal and grab as expected. Could it possibly be air in the brake lines or something totally different?

- Front brakes are in excellent condition.
- Just replaced the driver side front abs sensor and put new rear brakes and rotors on.

Passat (B5) :: While Making Long Turn At 40 Mph Engine Cut Out - Wheel Slippage Light Comes On

We have already dumped $800 into this problem at the dealership. I should have just come here, to begin with. Here's what happens. When we make a long turn at around 40 mph the engine will cut out and the wheel slippage light comes on. The wheels are not slipping and this only occurs during long slow turns. Very odd... The dealership has no idea and has already ripped me off once.

Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Rear Wheel Still Spins In One Direction With Parking Brake Engaged?

I noticed an increasingly loud noise when my GX 470 is in motion. It isn't tied to engine speed, so I figure it probably has something to do with the wheels.

I jacked up the vehicle and spun each wheel independently in neutral. Front wheels were fine. Rear driver's wheel was fine. Rear passenger's wheel - fine with parking brake disengaged. But with brake engaged, you can spin the wheel backward but not forward.

Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Shaking Steering Wheel And Pulsing Brake Pedal At Speeds Above 55mph

I bought 09 GX-470 4K miles ago..has 50K on it. Ran perfect when we bought it. wife said it started doing it 1 week later. I drove it and felt like warped rotors to me. replaced front rotors and pads with cheap wearever brand...I Know...I was sort of trouble shooting..did nothing ...did the back rotors and pads and seemed to fix it..did proper bed-in of new parts but, never checked at speeds above 55mph. recent trip got us up to speeds above 55... at these faster speeds when brakes are applied we get a nasty wheel wobble and a pulsing pedal...braking below 55 it feels fine.. thought's ?? last car was a 4runner which has the the same rotors and pads and never had a problem...could it be ABS ?? should I go with new oem rotors and pads ?

Lexus RX 2004-09 :: 2008 RX350 - Steering Wheel Locked On Turning Key Ignition

I have a 2008 RX 350 and I am experiencing issues with turning the key ignition and having the steering wheel locked. It gets locked and after several attempts at jimmying the key it eventually starts. My concern is that if I keep this practice up I will damage my key. I have addressed this issue to the dealership and I was naive and trusted them with fixing the problem with my last maintenance visit. Thinking the the problem was solved I started to experience the same problem again. I was first told that it is possible the my key chains are too heavy which could of caused the problem but I lightened the load and still have this problem. I've read about this problem with other people but there doesn't seem to be a solution.

One thing I have noticed is that I tend to experience this problem during the cold weather. During warmer weathers I don't have issues with the key ignition being locked but now that it's cold I am having the problem again (not sure if this has to do with anything). Do I need to change a part out to fix this? I've also read that there can be dirt in the ignition which needs to be cleaned out. Will this work and if so how do I do clean it?

Lexus RX 2004-09 :: 2008 RX350 - When Turn The Key Steering Wheel Doesn't Adjust

I've had my 2008 RX350 for 2.5 yrs now and just love it! However, over the last 8 months or so, I've been having a strange annoying problem. And a few times, the car has left me stranded. What happens is I turn the key and my first indicator is that the steering wheel doesn't adjust and I know the car is not going to start. However, the radio may work, dash lights work, steering wheel is not locked. It seems entirely dead as if the battery is dead. The car may start 15 min later or may take 3 hours then decide to start.

A strange thing is, is the windows don't work following these episodes which normally signify a battery failure, however the battery is not very old, otherwise performs perfectly and the dealership tested it and say it's good. Because this is so intermittent, they couldn't re-enact the problem so I'm stuck with being stranded again....usually 6 weeks later. The dealership has no answers. I was lucky last night because the car started after 15 min. 6 weeks ago, I was stranded 50 miles away from home where I had to leave the car overnight after trying for 3 hours to get is started.

The next morning, it promptly started. I am at a total loss and it makes me nervous to drive. My husband who works for a chevy dealer and knowledgeable with cars is stumped. He asks the question, could there be a computer malfunction after so many starts which would answer the 6 wk consistency for which this happens? Should we just replace the battery even though we have no reason to suspect?

Lexus RX 2004-09 :: 2008 - Vibrating Steering Wheel While Braking At High Speed

I own an 08 Rx350 at 70k miles now. This is my first car ever; my parents bought it brand new and gave to me as gift after I graduated from college. I try to take good care of it; whatever the dealership tells me to replace, I replace it. I follow the maintenance schedule and owners guide to a T. I never really paid attention when my parents drove this car...but I don't know why my car vibrates when I get maybe above 60 mph and try to apply the brake. I do not brake hard and now I pretty much avoid applying brake and just let it glide. Is this normal? Whenever I visit the dealership they do a complete check up. All the check up results are normal;nothing wrong with tire trims, brake pads, suspension etc.

Cadillac - Dts :: 2011 - Only Front Wheel Drive Snow Tires Good To Go?

On a front wheel Cadillac (2011) DTS, can I use only two snow tires--installed in the front?? These cars have stablization systems which are profound. I never had a problem with the rear end swinging out in my 2005 Sedan de ville. It looks to me as if the tire dealers just want to sell more tires, as they all suggest 4 snow tires. Aren't the rear tires just "along for the ride?" They have no torque.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Vibration On Steering Wheel When Applying Brakes

I have a Santa Fe 2010 2.4 awd 6AT with 20000km, I live in Ushuaia, Argentina, here the use of salt is normal in winter (a lot of salt). I have one winter and the second is coming with this SUV. Today I was in a road at 120km/h (75mph) and I had to apply brakes. In that moment I noted a little vibration on the steering wheel. After release brake pedal, the vibration disappeared. I checked again with same results, is been posible that my brake discs could be damaged or something is wrong with the brake system? I didn't have any light of malfunction. What is the normal life of brakes discs and pads in a santa fe with normal use?

Golf IV R32 :: Slight Vibration Of The Steering Wheel While Applying Brakes?

So sometimes (only sometimes, of course) when I step on the brakes, I get a slight vibration of the steering wheel. Doesn't seem to make a difference if it's gentle or not-so-gentle braking. Brakes cold or warm doesn't make a difference either. Nor does traveling in a straight line or not at that moment.

My understanding is that "warped" brake rotors are mostly a myth these days, especially for our beefy/hefty rotors. The car did not used to do this.

Rotors are "OEM slotted" from ECS, pads are Porterfield R4-S. All are well within tolerances. I know it's not an out-of-balance wheel, because wheels were swapped front to back not too long ago and there was no change.

So what else ought I check out? Tie rods/ends? Ball joints? I don't know all that much about this aspect of stuff..
