I have a RX350 2012 model. Recently, in last 3 weeks my battery has discharged 3-4 times, I had to call for a jump start.
I got my battery checked with my dealership and they say the reports from battery are excellent!
I am not sure why is it discharging? I just think there might be a sensor failure which is keeping something running in my car.
If my traction battery has plenty of 'juice' in it, and my 12v battery is dead....is there any way to 'jump' the 12 volt battery with the traction battery to get the car started?
View 19 RepliesThe 12V battery must have been drained completely over the weekend. None of the lights (interior and exterior) are working. The car won't start even using jumper cable. I guess the 12v battery must have some juice remaining to power up the computer in order to jump start the engine. Am I correct in this assumption?
My Prius is only a little over three years. What is the warranty on the 12v battery? I read that the OE battery is not the best. How long would I expect the OE 12v battery to last?
My wife's 2010 RX350 wouldn't start this morning. My guess is that the battery drained overnight with the back door ajar. After getting it started with a battery jump the rear hatch would not open by hand, the dash button or the key button. After driving and charging the battery the hatch would open. I'd this to be expected or an indication that perhaps the hatch has a fault?

Why this is happening all of a sudden? It was working fine until recently.. how do I fix it?
View 5 RepliesWith the hood open and the hood light bulb pulled out, measured the parasitic draw on their truck? I checked mine because it appears my battery is slowly discharging if the truck sits 3 or 4 days. I got 0.24 amps which seems in line with running the clock memory and the computer. I have a feeling the battery is shot even though it is only 3 years old. When I bought the truck it had a ton of yellow fuzz on the terminals. That is cleaned up and with it running I get about 14.35 volts at idle so it is charging. 0.24 draw??
View 10 RepliesI have a 2000 7.3 just replaced the alternator little over 2 months ago old one was wore out...heres my problem the night before last I was coming home and started to lose charge and made it home..shut the truck off and tried to restart and it would just click due to low volts.. the next day tested both batteries and they tested weak so I just cleaned the battery post and the cables..and started up and ran fine all day.. last night on the way home started to lose volts again got all the way down to 8 volts showing then all of a sudden it kicked in went back to normal.. and now today started to do the same thing by losing volts but now its dead but the batteries still test weak with no discharge under a load
View 1 RepliesMy 12V battery is dead- not sure what happened, I usually double press the lock button to turn the headlights off immediately. It seemed odd- the taillights were on, but not the headlights and all interior dome lights were on but dim. I certainly did not get the 'door open' warning beep when I left the car.
The car is completely dead - no power locks, interior lights etc. I tried to jump start it using the fuse box jumper plate, but was not successful. I have heavy duty jumper cables and it seemed like they only contacted the jump plate at one singular point, but that was the best I could do. It was touching, just only one point on the 'teeth' was physically on the front metal part. I waited a full 5 minutes with the donor car revving and tried to start it, but nothing at all. (And yes, I was + red to + red) I tried to adjust the cable on the plate a few times, but could not get any better of a grip. No dashboard light or anything ever came on- the car was just as dead.
What could the problem be? Should I try smaller cables for a better connection with the plate? How long should it generally take while revving the donor car? Or is this something more sinister?
I was recently left stranded in a mall parking lot by my 2007 Saturn Ion when it wouldn't start. After getting a jump from roadside assistance, I was told the battery needed to be replaced. I thought nothing of it since its a 2007 and has been driven between Virginia and Pennsylvania for the past four years fairly regularly. After a new battery was installed Sunday afternoon and the car started perfectly and was driven around all day Monday, I was shocked when I was once again left stranded in the parking lot at work Tuesday afternoon, again with a car that wouldn't start at all (there was no "clicking" either). The keys would get stuck in the ignition and I'd have to remove them by pushing the tiny button under the steering wheel. The new battery was tested again at the shop and they found nothing wrong with it and couldn't explain why it wouldn't start at all the previous afternoon but started and ran fine two days prior.

While i'm on the phone and receiving second call (call waiting) sound from car speakers disappeared and goes to my handset. Checked with HTC technical support and Lexus tech. could not solve this problem. Also while you guys on the phone and not moving, on navigation screen what do you see "handset" or "hands free" button? Because I have "handset" and I think it is suppose to be "hands free".
View 5 RepliesI have a 2007 Prius Package Six. I went away on vacation over Christmas and when I got back the battery was dead and the car wouldn't start. No problem as I was easily able to jumpstart it with a portable battery jumpstarter. However I kept having the same problem as apparently the battery wasn't maintaining a charge. So obviously my battery is kaput and needs replacing. I've watched the videos and plan on replacing it myself.
However when I went out this morning to jumpstart the car it wouldn't jumpstart at all. When I hook up my battery jumpstarter nothing happens. Nothing lights up. The car won't start. Even if my 12v battery is completely dead and cannot maintain a charge, shouldn't I still be able to get the car started with a jumpstart? I realize that as soon as I turn it off I will have to jumpstart again. But I can't figure out why a jumpstart won't even get the car fired up.Am I missing something?
I have an iPhone 4S that connects to the car fine. The problem is that it randomly drops bluetooth during a call. It does repair after random periods of time. My only guess is the phone because the iPhone 4 I just traded in never had this issue. I have tried deleting the pairing from both the car and phone without any luck.
View 14 RepliesMy wife left the lights on in the 2001 Camry and completely draining the battery. I tried to jump her but the car would not start (turns over great). Also the electrical system was strange in that the lights would not go off and other electrical items did not function. I disconnected the battery and fully recharged it and put it back on. I noticed that the "ALT" (100A) fusible link was blown and replaced it. Car still will not start (turns over great). The electrical problems appear fixed however the radio does not work. I tried to read the codes on the ODB and got "ERR". I checked all other fuses and they are good. I checked the pin-out voltage on the ODB port and was reading ~11.5V. I am wondering if I missed something like is the ECM bad? I can replace this myself for $150, but if I have it towed to a dealer it will cost me $800. Is there a way I can be sure that the ECM is bad, also are there other things to check that I may have missed. Also, when I turn the key to the "on" position, but do not start the car, the "Check engine" light does not illuminate.
View 5 RepliesI had left my car for about 30 hours without driving, which I've done before all winter with no issues. Went to start it up yesterday morning to head out and when the key FOB failed to open the door, I knew I was in trouble.
I unlocked the door manually, and put the key in to start it up and the Treg was completely dead and the key wouldn't release from the ignition. After a call to VW roadside assistance, and a jump start, it started right up and I dropped it off at the dealer for them to look at.
The service report says "diag and found low state of charge. charged battery and found passes tests. performed TSB 27-05-01 and cleaned ground point for battery. rechecked OK"
This is a V6 Touareg (there is a similar TSB I understand for V8s).
I drove my 2006 Passat 2.0T at night a few days ago. And I forgot to shut off the light. It came out that my battery was drained completely. After doing a jump start under my friend's assistance, I was able to run it again. But my radio remains dead, meaning it won't turn on by all means.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2010 Hyundai Sonata with about 100,000 miles. Recently, it started doing funny things when I tried to start it. It would take a few tries, sometimes, or it might start immediately- very unpredictable. Someone suggested I try starting it in neutral, so I did that. It seemed to work for awhile, so the idea was maybe it was a switch in the car that can go funny and make it so the car won't start in park. Switch replaced, so everything's fine, right? No, still not starting on the first try. I took it to a car parts store to get the battery tested. The guy said, the battery is shot and is definitely the problem (he also said the starter was okay and he thinks alternator is also okay).
So I bought a brand new battery and had it put in... STILL NOT STARTING! Sometimes it will start in neutral, sometimes in park. It does not seem dependent on the temperature, the amount of time it's been since it was last started, or anything else that I can figure. However, if it is hooked up to a jump start, it will start immediately with no problem, in park. New switch, new battery. Is it likely the alternator? I'm trying to figure out how big of a hit this might be to my checking account. Other than this problem, the car runs perfectly. I'm confused that people keep diagnosing a problem and it still doesn't work. And that I might have replaced parts that weren't broken to begin with.
I haven't been able to successfully jump my 2010 Prius. It sat for about a month and the 12v battery is dead. I've connected everything up as described in the manual. I've kept the second car at about 2K RPM for about 5 minutes to charge the Prius. I am able to get the Prius to start up just fine, but as soon as I disconnect the jumper cables, it dies right away. I've tried getting the Prius engine to come on for several minutes, but as i understand it, there's no alternator, so that's probably not charge the 12V battery.
I've gone through this cycle about three times now with the same results. Every posting I've seen doesn't indicate anything special needed after you disconnect the cables. Is there something I'm missing?
With A DeWalt 12V Battery....
I left the hatch up for a few days because I didn't drive it due to hot weather. The battery died on me of course. The dead battery measured 6.59v No amount of "battery recovery" time is going to recover it to start up the Prius. I charged up an old DeWalt 12V NiCad battery. I jump started the Prius with it. When I power down the Prius, the interior lights went back to really dim.
I am wondering how does the jump start works on the Prius since it uses a electric motor to start the engine but not a conventional starter.I recently drained the 12V battery (left the interior lights on for two days) and had to take the battery out from the trunk to recharge it. Initially, I tried to jump start it at the specific jump port at the front of the car but it didn't have any effect at all. By that, I mean as if there was no external power source given to the Prius - i.e., no lights came on and no response when pressing the Start button.
I mean zero electric current at the Prius. Is the electronic starter motor power driven by the hybrid battery? If that is the case, it may explain why jump start didn't work in my case because it only passes the power to the 12V battery which doesn't drive the electric starter motor. So what good is the jump start for if it doesn't work like a conventional car? How this process works on Prius?
I got in the car to start it and everything looked dead. After everything appearing out (no lights in the cabin/dash) and trying it a few times, once (this is the weird part) it gave me the "no key detected" (I had the key of course) and I saw the ignition button light flash red. I needed to be somewhere and replaced my fob battery while out (I knew that was a longshot). When I came back, I tried again and never got anything.
My lights were on the parking light postilion (I must not have twisted all the way), and I hadn't driven the car the previous day, so maybe that drained the battery (though I would have thought I would have noticed the lights were on, as I went through the garage a few times). Wipers were not off either, but that likely doesn't matter.
So I tried to jump it with a Sequoia (12 V in the trunk - used my physical key to open the trunk for the first time). Nothing. As in no electrical activity at all. Repeated process with a jumper unit. Again, I never got any sign of power at all. What replaceable fuse might be worth trying. It would have to be one that knocked everything out.
