As the title says....sometimes the trunk does not latch unless I close it hard. Is this normal for a SC? Why?

I cannot tell if something is wrong....other than a slight dent on the outside perimeter of the latch housing?
OK, Two days ago, at random, my lock stuck and would not open. I looked on this site and the best solution was to try to reset by disconnecting the battery. However, yesterday before I could get home and try it, the trunk starting opening and would not shut.
This morning I did the battery d/c. I notice the latch would pull the trunk down and then release several times. It appears about 5 times and then stopped in the open position. I put a screwdriver in the latch hook to see if that would stop the latch. It would not. I did the battery d/c about 5 times and no avail. I also checked the emergency pull inside the trunk and it is fine. I checked the latch release inside the car as well as in the glove box and they both appear to be in good working order.
So, I am led to believe I have either a wiring harness or a motor problem. I am leaning to the wiring harness because the pull down motor for the soft close is also not working.
Push button to open the trunk will not unlock. Push button for top close will not work.
View 7 RepliesSo, for about the last year, the whole time I have owned the car, the trunk latch wouldn't close when I shut the trunk. Basically I just lift it up again and try closing it, then it closes fine.
However, this morning, it took about 5 tries to get the trunk to latch. Now I am getting a little concerned. I have the bentley manual that I'm gonna have a look at ...
I opened the trunk to put something in this morning and when I tried to close it the darn thing kept bouncing right back up. So I luckily brought it directly to the dealership who was able to get me an appt. at 11:30 the same day. By 11:45 I got a call that the trunk latch was faulty and had been replaced and the car was ready to go.It was really annoying because there is no way to actually tie down the trunk if it won't close, so I had to drive to the dealership with my trunk open! You'd think they could have put some type of clips or hooks to hook up.
View 23 RepliesOK... '00 Passat GLX 4-Motion. I'm having problems getting the trunk to latch all of the sudden! I can shut it as hard as I want and it just does nothing and the light on the dash stays on, it's that way 99% of the time but every now and then I'll be driving down the road and all of the sudden it will just latch itself! The light goes out and when I get out I have to use the fob or the key to open it again! Is the latch electronically controlled by the BCM? When I physically inspect the latch, the "catch" seems to just be limp. It doesn't seem to be stuck one way or the other... just limp!
View 9 RepliesMy new 2014.5 Camry SE is awesome. I miss some things from my 2009 Altima Hybrid, but overall I'm happy I replaced it.
One thing I've found kind of odd is that I have a bit of a hard time closing the trunk. In most other cars I've had just pressing the trunk down gently will latch it (even if not fully closed) and it doesn't take much force at all to fully close. On my Camry, though, I feel like I have to slam it down pretty hard to get it to latch.
2016 2.4 limited. the trunk takes a lot of force to close....
View 9 RepliesI am driving a 2007 Lexus LS. Yesterday, the battery died, so I had to jump the car.
The battery was easily jumped, but now the trunk of the car will not close. I am able to push it all the way down, but the latch will not grab and attach.
Also, the automatic trunk button does not work either. When I press the button, I can hear a "click", but nothing happens.
2002 sc 430--interior door latch cable is broken at the ball. Is it possible to (purchase and) replace just the cable or is the cable integrated with the locking mechanism, requiring replacement of the whole unit. Also, need to get just cable and/or integrated cable/lock mechanism.
View 11 RepliesMy wife has a 2007 LS460. Some dummy at a big box store tied down the trunk to get a chair home by threading rope through the latch mechanism. Needless to say, the trunk will not close. Not with the button or manually. I tried the disconnect battery thing. Nothing. The lid goes all the way down.

I'm wondering if anyone tapped the switch in the rear and run the wire to the front & put a switch there so we can close it from inside. Sometimes we accidentally open the trunk and have to run out to close it.
View 14 RepliesTop won't close,the button seems to be dead, my question is can you replace the button that opens and closes or do you need to replace the whole climate control panel. There are no codes that show up. When I press the button down the windows go down but no top working, package tray in the trunk is closed and luggage button is off.
View 14 RepliesOur car was rear-ended (we had a great shop to the repairs and the car drives/looks like it did pre-accident). However, the navigation door magically stopped working now that we have the car back. The navigation screen still works fine, but the open/cose buttons will not make the door/lid open.
On other threads I have searched here, people have suggested this could be from the door being off-track (not the case here), a broken motor (could be the case), and/or a blown fuse (also could be the case).
What fuse I would need to check if it is in fact a fuse? I've looked at the fuse boxes in the engine bay (by the battery) and in the trunk, but all fuses look fine. Is there anywhere else I should look for a fuse before wasting a day at the dealer to diagnose/fix the problem?
Our 2009 LS trunk will not close, seems the power is not working it. Cannot find fuse box for it.

View 3 RepliesSo i haven't used my top for awhile because it's been really hot in texas. I tried it for the first time today and I can't even get the open close switch to blink red? I did a ecu reset by unplugging the battery for 30 minutes nothing. I check the fuses in the trunk and they were all good. I did install the VIas awhile back but I don't think it could be the temp control? I'm assuming if it wasn't plugged in all the way the AC and other functions would not work.

[/COLOR] Also the radio antenna will not go all the way down - about five inches stays up. Are the two problems related. Like others mentioned, I could eat off of the engine and the trunk still smells like a new car.
View 14 RepliesI just picked up 2007 LS460. I used the remote to open the trunk, but can't use it to close the trunk. Can only close by pressing the button on the trunk to close. When i press close on the remote, it beeps, but does not do anything.
View 7 RepliesI was looking at my car and noticed that i cant seem to find where the keyhole is for the trunk.. i keep my jumper cables in the trunk.. what if your battery died and cant pop the trunk with the button on the inside.. is there a way to open the truink? .. am i just not seeing the key hole or is there not one?
View 14 RepliesA couple of weeks back out of the blue my Nav screen stopped tilting back and of course if it doesn't tilt back the door won't close. I did the Lexus Diagnosis on the Tilt and Close Switches and it turns out to be something in the 'Nav' unit. Of course Lexus doesn't sell parts for the Nav unit... just the whole thing.
Since that time I have spent way too much time on diagnosing it and I actually tried another used unit that has the same problem as mine. What I think that I have figured out is that the motors are ok but the control unit, a small circuit board within the nav unit has failed. The problem is that this unit has 2-3 IC chips on it and any way to repair this circuit board.
Any luck repairing these circuit board or am I stuck.... The I was able to retract the unit into the dash and the door opens and closes but it would be nice if it tilted as they had intended...
