Mitsubishi - Eclipse :: 2000 - Rear Left Wheel Free / Grinding Noise When Turning Right

May 7, 2013

I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT V6 FWD. about 138, xxx miles

My left rear tire/wheel has free - play (clicking movement) when grabbed at ONLY the 3 o'clock position and push/pulled back and forth (no free-play at 12-6 direction) in the air.

I had grinding noise from rear left side wheel when turning right couple weeks ago. After replacing wheel hub bearing assembly, the noise is gone. But still remains the movement ONLY at 3 o'clock. I replaced stabilizer bar links in both rear sides. This link doesn't look like the reason of free-play (clicking movement).

Also, I tested (push or pull) after switching the other side(right) wheel, it still had clicking movement at 3 pm. Therefore, it is not a wheel problem itself, I guess.

And I took off the wheel and fasten the lug nuts onto the rotor itself (so, without wheel in this case), then push/pull the rotor at 3 pm, but this time no movement in any directions. @@;; weird.. ONLY, I can feel the clicking movement at 3pm on the Wheel (or tire) even after rotating wheel, exactly in same spot (3 pm) movement~!!!! What's this case??

All 4 wheels aligned recently after got new tires.

I scrutinized inside wheel while pushing/pulling back and forth. But I cannot figure out which one is problem.

1. Knuckle.

2. Lower control arm ( or Rear rear control arm, not typo) which has a Ball joint and a cam bolt the other side.

3. Rear front control arm

4. trailing arm.

5. stabilizer bar link. (new)

6. Wheel hub bearing assembly (new, double-checked the nuts and torques)

7. Rotor and pads (new, if I push the rotor itself then no wobble or clicking at all directions as desribed above)

Where should I direct my attention and/or what component(s) should I look at given the indications above?

When I pull/push the wheel at 3 o'clock, it feels like wiggling the whole part of lower knuckle where is the connection part between the part of 4 bolt (backside) of hub assembly and lower side of knuckle.

I heard that 12 and 6 is usually an indication of ball joint, and play 9 and 3 is usually in indication of steering components ( tie rods , steering shaft or rack itself ), and all around play is an indication of wheel bearing (usually accompanied with a growling noise ).

Lexus GS 2006-11 :: Grinding Or Metal Like Noise On Turning Wheel To Left Or Right

I have a problem! I have only had my 07 gs awd for less than 2 months. I noticed this morning when I turn my wheel all the way to the left or right it makes a grinding or like metal on metal noise. My brakes were done only a year ago, and this noise only happens when I'm turned all the way to the right or left.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2000 - When Turning Hard Left Only Makes Grinding Noise?

First off my trucks a 2000 v10 f250 with four-wheel drive and 2 wheel abs with about 230000 miles on it.

I Recently replaced my unit bearing on my drivers side because I thought it was the cause of a grinding that only happens on hard left turns but I wasnt the cause it was going bad causing play in the half shaft. I didnt seem to notice and wear on the shaft from bad needle bearings but I have to take it all apart again to be sure. Was just wondering what else could be the cause of this noise. I plan to pull the axel shaft and change all the seals.

Eclipse - Mitsubishi :: Right Tire Seized Wheel Cylinder?

2001 Mitsu Eclipse:

My right tire seized up--in drive-thru of all places--actually not a bad place I guess...anyway, the right tire didn't seem to move and you could hear the tire screeching as it dragged along. I pulled over and then went forward then reverse 2-3 times and that seemed to fix it and I was able to drive home.

At home after a hour of sitting I started it up and it had seized up again. I took the drum off, expecting to see something broken, but the brakes looked ok, though maybe 2/3rds worn...I wiggle the brakes left and right a tiny bit (I didn't know what else to do), the put the drum back on. And it's fixed!

But I'm sure the problem will return? What is the most likely problem? From searching around a bit, Master Cylinder seems to be ruled out since it's only one side? My next move might be Greasing the caliper pins.

I read that maybe replacing the rubber hoses might work? Is there any way to check the integrity of the hoses or whatever before I do that? I don't want to replace hoses unless they really need to be replaced.

Eclipse - Mitsubishi :: 2000 Sounds Like Airplane Engine

My son has a 2000 Eclipse which is making a horrible noise. Some say it is the lifters, some say it is a rod. Sounds like an airplane engine. The oil was not that low, maybe two quarts when we checked. He wants to sell it for 2000.00. Do you think it could be repaired and then sold? Do they have a problem common with this sound?

My 2000 Eclipse has a really bad shaking problem when put into reverse or drive. Also, it bogs down really bad when accelerating when first put into gear. It is the gs model. And I've searched everywhere online for an answer. It shifts fine. The idle drops down to around 500 when put into gear.. Whats the problem..

Eclipse - Mitsubishi :: 2000 - Terminals For Battery Charging Rusted Out?

I acquired a 2000 Eclipse from a friend of mine. Within 24 hours of having the car, it died, and I got a jump. Went to get the battery tested, the charge was around 55% and the guy told me that he could not test the alternator because the battery tested bad, but he got out a multimeter and told me that it was only outputting around 12v, and said that was all he could do.

The battery was brand new (replaced just before I got the car), and the alternator was replaced in January or February according to the previous owner.

I've been able to take the battery out and throw it on a charger, but for what it's worth the terminals on the car are in very poor shape. Rusted out and seem very "finicky", even if they are installed nice and tight, sometimes it still won't supply power to the car and I have to adjust them. Obviously this might indicate that replacing the terminals would solve my issues, however, the alternator output should test fine then, yes?

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Rhythmic Noise Coming From Rear Left Wheel Of Car

Very annoying noise I have on the rear left wheel of my 2001 Hyundai accent. About a year ago I noticed a rhythmic noise coming from the rear left wheel of my car. I figured the car had done around 130K kms and was probably needing new bearing assemblies. This didn't fix the noise. So I thought maybe it was the struts or the wheels. Not either of those.. changed the struts and got the wheels balanced.

I changed the rear brakes shoes.. didn't work. So a few months went by and I figured I would try and get the drums machined. So I got them skimmed slightly but this did nothing. Finally I decided to that maybe the bearing was dodgy so I put a new on... and you guessed it.. The noise is still there.

The noise is always present whether I am braking or not. As I speed up the noise is more prevalent. Basically the noise is related to the rotation of the wheel. My next plan of attack is to put new brake shoes on with new brake drums. I don't know what else I can try.

Buick - Regal :: 2003 - Front Left Wheel Metal Grinding When Turning?

Car : 03 Buick Regal

Recent Repairs : Installed new brakes, rotors, and bearings a month ago

Problems/Symptoms:

1. When going forward grinding noise ONLY when turning wheel to the right, becomes a tad louder when applying brake.

2. When going reverse cannot turn at all without hearing an AWFUL grinding noise and the tire seizing up.

3. Front left rotor (where noise is coming from) is beginning to wear heavily on the upper-outside portion in a 2" band.

Possible Solution that I thought of:The metal brake pad clip is somehow bent/not installed right so it is grinding on the rotor.

Why Can't I Check Right Now : Do not have hydraulic jack currently to get my car up. Waiting until Friday.

Today, I took the car to the shop today and they actually found that my sway bar needs to be replaced, but unfortunately they did not open up the brakes to check out the grinding noise. So when I left, I got to thinking about the brake pad clip.

Mitsubishi - Eclipse :: Creaking Noise Comes From Underneath The Car At Times

Ever since I had a tire blow out on the highway almost 4 months ago, I have noticed there is a creaking noise that comes from underneath the car at times. Kind of sounds like a ship creaking or something. Tried to get the mechanic to listen to it,he drove the car around the block but all heard was the convertible top hooks rattling. But my girlfriend heard it the other night and she said that wasnt normal and I need to bet it checked out.

Could it just need to be "lubed" I figure those placed like jiffy lube must offer that service for some reason. The mechanic said no. I had a car that the axle broke while I was driving it down the street... I was going really slow at the time. Anyway, what could be making that noise? its a 2003 mitsubishi spyder eclipse convertible with 80,000 miles on it. I am always worrying over this dang noise.

Eclipse - Mitsubishi :: 2001 - Bypass AC Compressor Making Noise?

I charged my AC a few weeks ago. After I added oil it began to make noise. Like metal on metal or a bad bearing. Could be the clutch pulley, bad bearing from what I've read. I don't want to replace it, nor do I want to spend the time and money putting in a bypass pully. I'd like to simply bypass the AC compressor by putting a shorter belt on. Problem is I can't seem to find any clear info on how and what size belt to use. I see a few saying it can be done and one saying it can't. Also, is the 2.4 the same as the 3.0 in regards to the belt diagram?I need to fix this asap, before it seizes up and I lose the belt or damage other stuff.

Yaris/Scion & Vitz :: Grinding Noise When Turning Left?

Yesterday I replaced what I thought was a bad front passenger wheel bearing, I removed the hub myself and took the hub to a local dealer to press out the old bearing and press in the new one.

Took the part back to the shop, got everything all assembled and took it out for a test drive. Right away I notice I still here the same noise, possibly even worse then before.

It was already late in the day so I decided to clean up and call it a day. During my trip home I notice everytime I turned the wheel to the left I here a horrible grinding noise, I did not have this sound before changing the wheel bearing.

Second guessing my own work, I took the car to the mechanic down the road today, not the same place that pressed the new bearing in. The mechanic inspected my work and couldn't find any problems at all. Even the ball joint I thought I had ruined was fine.

He inspected both from wheels for play, no play in either wheel. He then put the car up on the hoist while I remained in the car turning the wheel and accelerating. We were not able to reproduce the sound with the vehicle on the hoist, even with his stethoscope he could not here any noise coming from bearings on either front wheel. Everything sounds great with the car in the air, it's just when it's on the ground when there are problems.

Rotated all tire just to make sure it wasn't an oddly loud broken tire belt, once again no change.

I did replace the stabilizer link kit as well since the old one broke while during the wheel bearing replacement. Is there anyway I could have done something wrong with the stabilizer link that could cause this noise? I doubt this is the case since the mechanic did have a look at it.

I'm still assuming it's the front passenger wheel bearing, but don't wan't to go replacing parts I don't need. (I put a new fuel pump in my TJ 2 weeks ago only to discover all I really needed to repair was the broken wire going to the pump )

So just to be clear my car only makes this noise when it is on the ground, when the car is in the hoist I can turn the wheel and accelerate without any noise.

Hyundai - Sonata :: 2003 - Grinding Noise While Turning Left

I drive a 2003 Hyundai Sonata. I currently have a slight grinding noise (or maybe more of a low growling) when I make left turns. This happened in the not-so-distant past and it was an issue with the power steering hoses (one had rusted through), so we (and by "we," I mean my fantastic father) changed it out. I thought this time it may just be low power steering fluid, but after checking it, I can say it's not low. I'd think if a hose was the culprit again, the fluid would be low. What we should look into?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 - Grinding Noise When Turning Left

First I will start off by stating that my truck is a 2005 Ford F150 2WD Regular Cab 6.5 Bed, with the V6.

My problem is, when making a left turn at low speeds, I have a grinding noise that corrects itself upon straightening out the truck. This seems to happen on turns in the parking lots etc. It almost sounds like the tires are rubbing but the tires are the same BFG's that have been on the truck for 40,000 miles and have never rubbed. I am thinking it might be the power steering pump but am unsure. I do not have access to a lift right now but I have done the shake test on all of the suspension components and nothing seems out of place or loose.

Camry :: 2007 - Steering Wheel Grinding Noise On Left Turn

Lately my 2007 Camry (2.4 L, Auto) has developed a bit strange problem. When I'm driving on highway, even slight left turn results in a grinding noise and sort of resistant steering wheel. It happens only when I turn left. As soon as steering wheel gets back to straight, the noise and steering wheel resistance/hardness goes away. I don't really feel much when I'm driving slow on the city streets. Although some time when I am little bit fast, I feel slight grinding noise and steering hardness. No problem in turning right at all.
