The wizards that painted the entire passenger side of my 2003 Passat have left me with a rear door that takes a few handle pumps to open, particularly when it has been a few minutes between tries. What is the cause of this? Is this a hinge issue or something else?
View 1 RepliesI tried searching around, but nothing. the rear door on the passenger side sticks out a little, im wondering if there is an adjustment i can do to fix this.. its out less than a quarter inch. someone said adjust the striker, but i cant seem to find it.
View 8 RepliesI never seen this before. Today I was driving on the freeway. I then heard a loud "pluck" noise as if a rock hit my car. When I got home, I saw this bulge popping out on my right passenger rear door. It looks like it's swollen.
It doesn't look like a rock hit the car though. Otherwise, it would have been a dent inwards with paint chipped. It's really close to the rear passenger door speaker too. I wonder if something in the speaker popped and made a bulge like that outwards.
My 2013 Passat has some issues with the door locks. I'm at 92k kms now and no longer under full warranty. In June 2015, I had the locks fixed with the local VW dealer, while under warranty - 2 doors were failing to lock/unlock using the remote and would regularly attempt to lock while driving (could hear the motors in each door and lock light wouldn't light up as usual).
I no longer drive the vehicle regularly, it's essentially my gf's car now. She mentioned a couple weeks ago that the rear passenger side door wasn't locking, though the lock alarm still beeps. No motor sound this time. And again, while driving it constantly tries to lock the doors around 10-20kph (no light on locks shows up confirming locked).
So essentially it's been just over a year since the issue was fixed. According to the dealer it's an electronic issue and costs that much because the locking component in each door has to be replaced. Doesn't make sense to me if its electronic...
I haven't spoken to VW myself yet but it all sounds off to me. I'm a diesel mechanic and don't know a whole lot about the electrical side but why would I have the same issue in back to back years on something like door locks?
Also sounds like the heated mirrors might not be working. Is it a failed actuator on the driver side maybe?
The little piece that flips when you lock the doors (you know what I mean, it is orange when it's open) has been acting up on my 06 Sonata. If you move it by hand it's fine (the door locks and unlocks) but when you use the fob and lock or unlock the doors, sometimes this one just doesn't move.
It looks like it wants to go, but doesn't. If you press lock and unlock again, it opens. on occasion.
On the passenger side where the door opens up the paint seems to be scraping off... It's pretty noticeable on my black car. It's only this one side.. The door doesn't touch that piece so I'm not sure what caused it.
View 8 RepliesI purchased a 2014 Santa Fe 2.0T last June. Has been an awesome car up until about 2 weeks ago. I started to notice a squeaky rattle sound coming from somewhere around the rear passenger door. I've tried pressing on things, checking all the door pockets and can't seem to find it. Looked at the front mud flap in front of the rear tire and it's tight. It only does it when I get above 45 MPH and is sporadic. I'm afraid the dealer won't be able to replicate the problem.

Will bring it in tomorrow for them to check, but I'm not getting a good feeling that they will cover it. Car has only 3500 miles on it! Bumper shouldn't be chipping like this.

View 18 RepliesI recently bought a used 2013 passat and one day noticed that my front passenger door wouldn't unlock with the remote. All other doors unlocked, but not that one. I opened it from the inside and it unlocked, but then it wouldn't lock with the remote or the lock button. I tried the usual troubleshooting techniques (repeating the steps over and over, giving puzzled glances, long stares) but those didn't work. I did notice that on the edge of the door, next to the lock mechanism, was a small rectangular hole the same size/shape as my key. I was pretty awesome at the shapes game growing up, so I immediately jumped at putting the object in the hole of matching shape. Sure enough, the key went in. I was able to turn it and when I did, the door started locking and unlocking normally.
I went through the manual (contrary to the stereotypes about men) but couldn't find this particular "feature" or why my car would have it or need it.
On my Phaeton, I've got some paint chipping right below one of the rear tail lights. It is strange since this is not an area that would get any type of abuse, and I don't think the tail lights have been removed before. I am wondering if this is something that I could touch up myself. If not, should I get a dealer to look at it?
View 4 RepliesNotices such a noise from the rear passenger side door (same side as the fuel cap. Also experienced this same window 'malfunction'. Lowered it partially and then auto-rolled it up. Instead of auto-rolling up to a close, it rolled all the way up and then all the way down where is stopped.
View 4 RepliesMy '99 Passat 1.8T has an intermittent problem with the electric door locks. The rear passenger lock sometimes doesn't lock, but I can always get it working by unlocking it with the remote and relocking it.
The driver door lock is now really the problem. It mostly doesn't work - in fact, not at all over the last week or so. What is the most likely cause? How much trouble is it to take apart the entire door to get to it? I have had the door panel off which isn't too bad, but the rest of it looks tough.
Bought the car 3 days ago, 2013 40000m silver SE 5spd, manual ... pretty nice over all, but those rear door locks trying to lock every time I stop and go over 10mph is driving me crazy. So after researching, I ended up to the conclusion that I have to replace them both, and put the sleeves/covers that they came up with.
View 5 RepliesHaving issue with body squeaking ? . I am getting a squeaking sound coming from around the passenger rear door /body area of my 2010 Passat. Car has 10K miles and has been doing this since around 6K miles. Not noticeable unless going over uneven pavement or railroad tracks but it is annoying. Never had any body squeaks from a new car lite this. Have not been to the dealer with this issue yet.
View 6 RepliesMy buddy just picked up a 2007 passat 2.0t. Upon bringing it home and locking it we noticed the horn didn't beep indicating an active alarm. I discovered the rear passenger door wasn't locking, and when opening it, even though the alarm was activated, the alarm didn't go off. The door unlock/lock switch as well as the window switch both aren't working. Can't open the window from the driver's door switch either.
I'm guessing it's probably something to do with the power to the door since it's completely unresponsive. Where would we be able to check if power is going to the door? Also, since the alarm doesn't go off when opened is there a sensor somewhere that says when the door is open and or locked?
I noticed there was a relatively large oil leak coming from underneath the rear passenger door immediately after I started my wife's 2000 Passat (GLX -- V6). The car wasn't driven for about 2 days and immediately after I started her up, I noticed the oil leak coming out right in front of the rear passenger tire.
What kind of oil leak could this be? I've never seen a car leak oil from underneath the rear passenger door? I recently had the oil gasket replaced. After I pulled out, I noticed that the oil was kinda black and had an odor of gas to it. What this could be?
Since I had my '02 I've had the child safety lock on the passenger side rear door on (active). I went to disable it (you know, stick the ignition key in and turn it 90 degrees to the side without the child's picture) and I'm still unable to open the door from the inside.
Everything else with the door works fine. The power locks work. Even pulling the handle twice pushes the lock button to the up position. And opening the door from the outside works as it's supposed to. The only thing I cannot do is open the door from the inside. Have I missed anything?
Now that I have the audio upgraded in my LS, we have uncovered a slight issue with the drivers rear door. The installers will work with me, but I thought there is so much knowledge up here, why not ask.
Everything else on the vehicle works perfect, its just this one door as if all the power is off or disconnected.(ACC or ON power it functions fine) I have checked the fuses under the driver side and the ones in the trunk, they are all fine and we took the front driver door apart to make sure any connections were good. everything seems secure, we even looked over the ECU in the door to make sure it didn't seem fried or anything, all functions on front and passenger doors are perfect.
Here are the symptoms: passenger rear door light wont come on with the door open unless the ACC is on. the other 3 turn on, with or without ACC.
The door lock actuator from the outside on this door wont lock the doors or with the sensing when you approach with the fob and grab the handle (as in the lights there wont light up).
The door closer that finishes off the door being slightly open wont grab and pull it in.
The trunk lights wont come on and there is no fuse or connection issue we can see. Its puzzling.
My passenger side front and rear windows dont work. Both driver side windows work, just not the right side/passenger side.
Also when I press the master door lock/unlock switch on the driver seat, every door except the rear passenger door works. It stays unchanged so I guess it is not receiving a signal or something is not letting the signal reach the lock.
I have just bought a 2013 Elantra GLS and occasionally the passenger door won't shut. When you close the door, it will bounce back. It's like it's not catching. I took it to the dealer and they lubed the mechanism that catches, but it did it again. And of course, this is one of those things that won't repeat itself at the dealership.
