I have a problem with my transmission I believe. Its 2004 passat 4-cyl turbo. Not sure whats wrong. When i start the car the entire display (P-R-N-D) is lit up like they are all in gear. It drives but seems to be stuck in 3rd gear I would guess.
View 2 Repliesmaking a right turn and accelerating up a slight incline trans hangs in 2nd gear to 4000 rpm until I hit the + paddle. Dealer says this is normal for the DSG. I'm not buying it! Occasionally it is reluctant to upshift from 2nd on a straight way during normal acceleration. 2014 sel v6 dsg.
View 6 RepliesSo couple of days ago, I went shopping. no issues. after shopping i fired it up, no issues, put it reverse, car was shaking, put the car in neutral. No issues, put the car in drive car is shaking again. i started to drive no shaking, however the car felt like it had no power, I only felt shaking during switching from R TO N TO D. So I change to manual mode and see the gear was 3rd. i was not able to change gears manually, neither did the tranny switched them for me. I drove home about a 3 miles. shut the car off, restart it...gears and car drives normal. Took to dealership, they checked it...and of course no issues. Ihave 44k miles and 50k warranty expires next week, nice, huh? got another year of powetrain warranty left.
View 3 RepliesI have an extracted T18 transmission and it appears to be stuck in gear, preventing the Shift Control Housing (top part of trans.) from being removed. Would pulling the shifter remove that top plate? As it is I can get that plate lifted about an inch while I notice the in/output shafts turn, which leaves me to believe it's stuck in gear.
View 2 RepliesMy 2010 Santa Fe's transmission has been smooth since the TCM update except there's always a clicking sound when the speed first reaches 30 km/h. The sound only happens once during each trip. It seems like it only happens when the fluid is cold. Once it's warmed up, it's fine.
Yesterday all of sudden I feel something is dragging my car. I noticed RPM is over 2000 when the speed is only about 60 km/h. (not mile). And the ECHO light is not ON. So I shift to '+/-' mode and the display shows 4. I guess it means it's in 4th gear. I shift up to 5th gear and RPM drops right away. ECHO light comes back ON. So is this a symptom of 2010 Santa Fe transmission?
I also feel my brake pedal is very stiff when this happens. And the brake pedal has not much travel distance. If the brakes are dragging car down, can this cause the transmission stuck at low gear?
Finding a solution to my problem with Santa Fe, the gear gets stuck up on the 3rd gear. I have changed all the solenoid and it is still the same.
View 2 RepliesMy transmission got stuck in 3rd gear on the way home recently. I tried disconnecting and re-connecting the battery and that didn't work. Looks like there's fluid around the casing, but I wasn't sure if that was already there or not. What it could be? '07 Santa Fe (3.3L)
View 4 RepliesI have an 01 and 02 santa f. I took the v6 out of 01-and put in the 02.put new gaskets on engine new timing belt etc. Got engine in and runs like a champ. But the tranny which looks new I assume its been replaced. It starts out in 2 or 3 all the time want shift into od. Reverse works. So I found one plug dangling I couldn't figure out where it went then i found it. It plugged up on top of tranny. Well now it starts out in first and shifts through all the gears. Drove it down the rd shifted fine. Turned around and put in reverse then when i went to drive it jerked real hard. Shifted out fine so I went to floor it to make it kick down and it jerked again. This time it was hung in 3 or drive cause when I pulled into my driveway it was in high gear and u can put it in manual mode and the light only goes to second and d when it acts up like this. So i killed the car started back up and know it will go into first in manual mode and shift out and do fine?
View 3 Replies04 deville. Trans is stuck in gear. Or seems to be. Car is off. Crank car, starts fine so gear selector/neutral safety switch is ok? Car is running, shifter is in park, take foot off brake amd car moves forward. Since its in gear. Apply brake, shift to neu or rev and car will still move forward. The 2000 caddys had an external neutral safety switch. The 04 cars have an internal switch. If that has an bearing on discussion. Could trans shifter linkage inside trans be messed up? So spool valve in trams is always in gear but shift selector works properly so car can be started?
View 2 Replies1995 Chevy Saburban, currently at 150,000 miles, Prior owner had transmission rebuilt prior to 100,000 miles. While towing my 18ft camper trailer on a recent trip every time I started off from a stop I had to really push on the gas to get going. At first I though the emergency brake was on, or I had a flat tire. I then noticed the automatic transmission was not shifting when I had it in D. Checked the transmission fluid and it was full. The transmission seems to be stuck in 3rd gear. When I move the shifter to 2 it will shift down. Reverse is also still working.

View 10 RepliesAs I was entering a highway onramp today, the transmission stuck and didn't shift between what I'm guessing was 3rd and 4th gear. It was revving at about 5000 RPM and stayed there.
After what felt like about 10 seconds, it got its act together and shifted and the revving stopped.
I've had my 03 VR6 6-speed for 12 years. It's been a second car for the last 5 or so, but regularly used. Friday morning the car got stuck in 3rd gear. The stick will only move from neutral position and down towards 4th gear. I've inspected the short shifter under the hood and the bushings under the shift boot. I did not find anything that diesel geek (the short shifter company) had me check for.
I brought the car into a local shop I have never used before (my usual shop closed), and today they called me saying its a transmission issue. I have not given them permission to open anything up. I am going to take the car home for now.
I have had to repair a broken 1-2 gear fork before. And at that time I had the 3-4 gear for replaced as well.
I should also mention, I similar issues on a quick drive i took the car on the night before. I thought it was just me acclimating to the shifter/lower power of the car as I hadn't driven it for a while. The point is, it drove fine afterwards and it drove fine for a 40 minute city drive to work the next morning.

First of all overdrive started to play up, the engine would flare as it went into OD and often would have several goes at it until it engaged OD. Finally it wouldn't go into OD.
Still driving it around for awhile then it went into limp home mode - stuck in 3rd gear. What it might be?
I just picked up another GTi and knew the transmission was iffy when I bought it. I had to deal with the serpentine belt tensioner which is now new and also a new waterpump since it was wobbling.
I've already drained and replaced whatever oil was in there with VW G60 Gear Oil which is what my Dealer here told me to put in and it shifts smoother now but still has the same issue. I also did the Shifter Cable adjustment to see if that was the problem but that only made it easier to shift but it still got stuck.
Basically what happens is when driving I shift into 3rd gear and when I go to shift out of 3rd it comes out of gear but it's like it hits a brick wall and will not go into the home position. I was hoping the adjustment and new oil would work but it hasn't done anything.
My transmission is manual, front wheel drive, 4 cylinder motor, plunger has come disconnected from shifting forks, car is stuck in 3rd or 4th gear. Would it be easier to change transmission or is replacing the plunger mechanism a viable option?
View 3 RepliesMy manual transmission got stuck in 4th because of a melted oil trough sticking between the gears. I got all the plastic out, and the dog clutches/collars are "free." But, I don't know how to put the gears back into neutral. When it's reassembled, the stick doesn't work to change the gears. How can I get the gearbox back into neutral?
View 19 RepliesSo yesterday, this had happened for the third time in 3 years owning this car. Unhooking the battery for 20-30 minutes resets the computer and it is ready to go for a while with no issues. This has become annoying though. What is causing the car to enter "limp" mode and stay in third gear? One time it happened, I brought it to AutoZone and they did a scan and came up with the speed sensor. I haven't replaced it because it didn't happen for a while after that.
View 11 RepliesI have just put in another transmission and the truck will not shift out of first gear, it will go in reverse and first and reverse. The guy who had it before me had the same problem when he put in a transmission with only about 40-60,000 miles he assumed it was a bad transmission. And that's how I ended up with the truck. We have so far installed yet another transmission and it is doing the same not shifting out of first that it did for him. There is no cel or blinking overdrive lights, checked fluid levels, checked selinoids, gonna purchase a used computer for diagnostics, I am stumped with limited knowledge. The dealership said the transmission should be the e40d I'm reading it should have the 4r100 is that correct? The truck is the 5.4L v8 with 74,000 original miles. Truck sounds amazing. I really want to fix it.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2001 Hyundai Accent with 120,000 miles on it. Up until a few months ago, its been a great little car. The transmission started acting funny by shifting irregularly and then getting stuck in 3rd gear occasionally. I took it to the dealer and they told me that the tranny is shot. The estimate for the repair is $2000.00.
I just can't see putting that much money into this car. It needs Struts, Shocks and a timing belt. Basically what it needs is what its worth if it were running well.
How hard it is to replace the transmission in this car? I have the 1.6L DOHC with the Automatic transmission.
Just got my 2013 Elantra Limited last weekend. It appears the car is having some issues with the transmission shifter. I am not sure if its tranny related, but I highly suspect it is. Dealer gave me the usual bs not being able to duplicate the symptoms.
1. Intermittently, gear selector would get stuck in neutral, when I try to put the car into P, after a long or a short drive.
2. I would have to wiggle the shifter to get into P, or I would have to shift to D, and then I am able to shift back into P.
