Got really cold this morning, around 26F, went ahead and opened the trunk, put some stuff in, and then ... tried to close it and the latch wouldn't hold. It would just bounce off ... tried it a couple of times (4-5) and it finally closed. It's the second time it happens ...
View 14 RepliesMy new 2014.5 Camry SE is awesome. I miss some things from my 2009 Altima Hybrid, but overall I'm happy I replaced it.
One thing I've found kind of odd is that I have a bit of a hard time closing the trunk. In most other cars I've had just pressing the trunk down gently will latch it (even if not fully closed) and it doesn't take much force at all to fully close. On my Camry, though, I feel like I have to slam it down pretty hard to get it to latch.
All of a sudden (2 wks ago), the trunk lid decides when it's going to close. I open it with the key or VW sign and then it won't close. It just pops back open, I thought something was stuck, checked out the trunk-there was nothing there. It took about 5 minutes and numerous trys then it finally stayed closed.
Used the trunk again, no problems. Then last night it did it again, it took about 10 mins. to get it closed. This time I had to sit on the trunk lid to close it, but the alarm wouldn't engage. I was scared it was going to pop open when I driving so I opened it again sat on it for a few minutes, then the trunk lid stayed closed and the alarm finally engaged.
So after the temperature drop .... Next day I opened the trunk to take out my ice scraper and It didn't closed! Warm up the car ... Full speed fans , fold down rear seats to get some heat in trunk area ... 30 min... And nothing. Sprayed some wd40... Nothing !
So I decided to take apart the latch .... Removed liner ...unplug motor unplug manual opener pull wire remove latch and put some white lithium grease... Then when I take it apart found the plastic little gear and internal was pretty dry no kind of any grease inside and it was stuck.
It didn't move so put some grease in all touching areas , gear and latch itself , twist it bunch of times until everything run smooth . Here is the picture of the all mechanism inside. Pretty simple... It's like a retractile pen like. Put everything back together and is working fine for now. Let's see if it work ok from now or I might be buying a replacement part, the new revision which it end in "D"...
I am having a problem with my trunk.. it started when i removed the fuse for my interior lights. When I put the new fuse in the alarm started to go off to make a long story short i had to re program my key and i could finally start it without the alarm sounding. My lights still don't work but I don't know what else to do.. Ever since that little accident happened now my trunk wont latch shut. When I push the button on the fob the trunk doesn't even make a sound!! I feel stupid driving around with my trunk open...
View 4 RepliesMy trunk latch will not catch. It will close and stay closed, but when driving it trips the sensor that it's open. The Car will not alarm unless I push down on the trunk, but if a car drives by it trips the alarm.
I have removed the liner to expose the latch assembly, but can't find anything broken. Have been unable to remove the hard plastic surrounding the latch itself.
So, for about the last year, the whole time I have owned the car, the trunk latch wouldn't close when I shut the trunk. Basically I just lift it up again and try closing it, then it closes fine.
However, this morning, it took about 5 tries to get the trunk to latch. Now I am getting a little concerned. I have the bentley manual that I'm gonna have a look at ...

View 1 RepliesMy 2006 passat trunk is not closing in cold weather. Even if it stays the alarm beep will not come on indicating it is not closed. If I let it sit under the sun (or warm garage), it will lock.
View 4 RepliesI opened the trunk to put something in this morning and when I tried to close it the darn thing kept bouncing right back up. So I luckily brought it directly to the dealership who was able to get me an appt. at 11:30 the same day. By 11:45 I got a call that the trunk latch was faulty and had been replaced and the car was ready to go.It was really annoying because there is no way to actually tie down the trunk if it won't close, so I had to drive to the dealership with my trunk open! You'd think they could have put some type of clips or hooks to hook up.

View 5 RepliesOver the last couple of months, my '98 Passat 1.8T Sedan has started to show an annoying habit, in addition to the multiple other ones of which I will never solve.
After it has rained and things have dried up pretty well everywhere, if I open up the trunk, a stream of water always drips down from the latch. It gets pretty annoying when I have things in the trunk. I have looked everywhere on the trunk lid hoping to find a location of ingress - nothing. I made sure the channels on the side of the trunk are clear of debris too.The water does not seem to be collecting in the receptacle (on the bumper) for the latch either. It is somehow collecting in the lid. I once had a cracked license plate light holder cover, so I replaced that thinking the problem would be solved. No luck.
The only other thing I have noticed is that over the last week twice after trying to open the trunk with the handle, the handle would not release properly ( it would move up and get stuck and the trunk would not open). When I wiggled the handle, it would pop back down and then I could open it properly. The two things are probably not related.
How to solve the water drip from the latch, or at least, where the water is coming from?
A very tiny (1cm) spring broke and came out from the small trunk latch. The trunk will no longer close and catch or lock. Where to purchase that small spring and how to put it back? 2002 V6 B5.5 Passat ....
View 6 RepliesOK... '00 Passat GLX 4-Motion. I'm having problems getting the trunk to latch all of the sudden! I can shut it as hard as I want and it just does nothing and the light on the dash stays on, it's that way 99% of the time but every now and then I'll be driving down the road and all of the sudden it will just latch itself! The light goes out and when I get out I have to use the fob or the key to open it again! Is the latch electronically controlled by the BCM? When I physically inspect the latch, the "catch" seems to just be limp. It doesn't seem to be stuck one way or the other... just limp!
View 9 RepliesSE with Nav & Sunroof, when opening & closing Tilt the motor vibrates and the hinges squeak, after the dealer apparently lubricated the s/roof the squeaking etc is still happening..
The service manager says it's the rubber water seals closing or pulling apart! he says that after lubrication just 1car wash will enable the squeaking to return!!!!!
He also says that the trunk on my wife's 2012 Jetta should not fully pop open when using the keyfob, buy it popped fully open for 2 months - now it's just lifts a little..did VW reprogram via the internet? or whats the story...........
Cannot open trunk with remote or switch inside driver's door. Key entry at rear fine. Have checked all fuses. Also, front passenger window will go down with one push of switch but requires constant pull to close. Was working fine. Any connections?

My jeep liberty 2002 has been sitting for two weeks. Noticed rear door latch opening and closing. So I unhooked battery. I figured battery was dead tried to hook charge to it but it keep discharging kicking off charger. Whats going on? Tried jumping but it was still discharging?

View 3 RepliesI do have the power trunk. I went to open the trunk but instead of opening it just sort of popped up as if it weren't a power trunk. Pressing the close button does nothing and the latch is in a position so that I cannot fully close the trunk. I restarted the car a few times, tried different keys, and tried the trunk reset trick I read about in the Table of Contents.

My top screws are plenty tight, but the bottom portion seems to not be secure enough since they do not have screws.
