I have a 2006 V8 Phaeton and about 4 months ago the car alarm has begun to go off spontaneously while the car is parked. The dealer found no fault codes but concluded that my batteries needed replacement (~60K miles). I had both batteries replaced and that seemed to have solved the problem for awhile, but now it was begun again.
View 4 RepliesThis morning, while getting ready for work, my car's alarm sounded. I ran outside in the rain, and it was beeping and flashing, but there was no one around. I unlocked the doors, looked inside, everything looked fine. Shut her up, reset the alarm. Not 2 minutes pass and it goes off again. Same drill. This time I start the car and the MFA indicates the rear compartment is open, I check and it's not. I open it, shut it, and reset the alarm. You know what happens next, the alarm goes off.

View 7 RepliesHappened 2 days ago, just as it started to rain. The sunroof opened about 15 cm, then just as I was starting to try to close it, it then closed itself by reversing smoothly.
Since then the sun roof has operated normally. I have waited for this problem to repeat, but it hasn't. For the first time, I tried to do a search, but failed using the key words "Sun Roof" and "moon roof". Since I know there has been several threads regarding the repair of the opening dial using a Bic pen casing, I know I am performing the search incorrectly. Issue only has happened once, and my hands were nowhere near the opening dial.
My 2006 V8 sat for about 5 days last week. It started but apparently was flashing all kinds of low voltage alarms (according to my daughter, I was out of town)... She moved it aside and used another car... I charged the battery and cleared codes with the VCDS but within a day the battery was flat again. Battery test recommended replacing battery so I put a brand new battery in on Wednesday. We took the car on a trip of some 300 miles with no problems at all on Thursday, I drove the car Friday and Saturday with no indication of any problems (voltmeter in dash always sitting at 14+ volts, no messages or indications of any problems). Today (Sunday) battery is way flat again; my intelligent charger indicates 100% charge but just over 6 volts in the battery, and, based on the 100 % charge indications, stops charging and goes into Maintainer mode. My battery tester confirms the ~6 volts and recommends replacing the (brand new !) battery.
The battery management controller is: 3D0 915 181 D this being a 2006 should have the "updated" controller...
The car, suppose it is possible that this brand new battery is faulty but I believe it is much more likely something has gone haywire with the Phaeton...
Something is draining the battery after the car off and locked (I was alerted to look at the car because the lock lights on the door sill were no longer flashing).
If I can't charge up the battery to 12 volts yet another battery is indicated !?
In reading about battery problems I have never seen a suggestion on a particular device that fails ON and causes such a severe drain...
If the battery is in fact not being charged by the alternator how would this be checked ?
When I noticed no flashing lock lights on the car my first action was to disconnect the left (accessory) battery by taking off the negative lead. I then connected the charger which gave the indication of 100% charge but only 6 volts, and wouldn't charge beyond this. I disconnected the charger and connected the battery tester, which confirmed the 6 volt reading and recommended a new battery. I had to move the car as it was blocking other cars; I reconnected the battery and started the car by turning key to the left and back to the right, it started with "please start the engine" and a "level system fault" as expected, I could hear the switching relay in the trunk going on and off as expected, and I moved the car, left it running for a few minutes to move other cars, and parked it. I again removed the negative lead of the left hand battery and reconnected the charger. The "intelligent" charger now read 11.8 volts or so and a 16 % charge level, more reasonable but totally confusing as to why it changed. I disconnected the charger and used the battery tester which also read about 11.8 volts and, good news I guess, rated the battery OK. Right now the charger is reconnected and we'll see if it will bring the battery up to 12 volts and 100% charge...
Both brake lights on my KIA Sportage 2006 function normally when the car lights (headlights etc) are switched off.
When the car's lights are switched on, the right brake light completely stops working, whilst the left one behaves normally and becomes brighter.
I have a V10 TDi Phaeton and all of a sudden the alarm is going off randomly. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason as to when its happening.

View 24 RepliesI noticed that when I go to lock my car, the beep sound is extremely low, than at other times it is of normal loudness. I could be wrong, but is it possible there is an association with the altering sound and the rain? It seems after the rain it happens for a few days, then gets better.

View 24 RepliesI took my car to our local Phaeton Service Center yesterday (the bottom plate needed to be cleaned so it could pass the obligatory annual technical evaluation). I had the technician perform a few software adjustments (no seatbelt warning, activation of comfort window opening via the remote control, automatic locking and unlocking of the doors) and now when I lock the vehicle the red alarm LED's on the inside of the front doors start to blink for a few seconds, and then stay on (solid red) for about two minutes. After that they start to blink slowly again.
Before yesterday, when I locked the car, the LED's would blink a bit faster for about ten seconds, and would then resume their slow blinking. Is this normal behavior or did something go wrong?
I was queuing for the Dartford Bridge yesterday, and had been about 20 minutes in crawling traffic, when for the first time ever the DPF indicator came up on the dashboard with a message to check the manual. Then moments later I got the engine fault, workshop alarm which was quite insistent. Reaching the tolls I pulled away and then 'booted' it for a while in sport mode and both indicators disappeared...so I thought I had cleared the problem.
I reached work without incident, but then when I came to restart the car later in the morning, I had the engine fault come up again with a very insistent chime. I phoned my dealer and took it in...the DPF indicator coming up again while in traffic on the way there. The fault has been diagnosed as a faulty diesel particulate sensor, which is now being changed on Monday when the part arrives.
The passenger side low beam failure alarm come on about 20 seconds after starting the car. It goes out after about 10 seconds; then alarms again after 10 more seconds; it goes out and then finally alarms after another 10 seconds and stays alarmed until the car is turned off.
Looking at the light from the front of the car, it goes on and off as described above. However when it is on the light is very bright. This suggests to me a loose connection or maybe a a loose fuse. That is, unless this is the way those bulbs go out. It seems strange because the bulbs in my other cars did not behave like this. They were either out or not, never in between.
The only thing that has been done to this car was that the tires were balanced about five days ago. The VW place did not do a good job at balancing the tires when they rotated them. What is going on in my car?
I have received this alert a few times while driving - it lasts a few seconds and then goes off. My mechanic says oil pressure is good and suspects erroneous message. I also received that message once while the engine was not running, ignition on, listening to the radio. This seems t support erroneous message.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2008 Prius and the for about 2 weeks now it has been spontaneously resetting its memory. I turn the car off as normal, the next time I turn it on it tells me I have no gas, the MPG and Miles have reset, all my radio station presets are cleared. It started after I installed a subwoofer ( but I also installed it a couple weeks after I got it ) I thought the sub was draining the battery, but the car starts fine and shows the battery is one bar from full. So I ruled that out.

View 12 RepliesWe have a 2007 Honda Odyssey with 76,000 miles. In December 2012 we had been driving for approximately 3-4 minutes, exiting onto the highway and accelerating to reach 65 miles per hour. When we reached approximately 55-60 MPH and were still accelerating the car spontaneously applied the brakes for approximately 3 seconds, lurching us forward. We stopped accelerating and began to pull over. It again spontaneously braked as we were slowing down. We attempted to drive slowly along the side of the road, to get to the next exit, and it happened again. Once we were finally able to stop in a safe place we turned off the car. We turned the car back on and it did not do it again.
We took the car to the dealer and they only found one code - the steering sensor. They re-calibrated it but were not convinced that was the problem. Sure enough, approximately two months later the same thing happened. We were not going quite as fast and it did not lurch quite as severe. After it did this three times i was at a stop light and pushed the switch to turn the VSA off. It did not occur again. Took it to the dealer and they found no codes. They drove 17 miles and could not duplicate the problem. The weather conditions both times were approximately 30-40 degrees with some snow or wetness on the ground from prior precipitation. The dealer continues to say there is no problem because it shows no code and they can't replicate the problem.
I have a 2004 Acura TL which has been in pretty good shape up until recently.
The left headlight started working on and off spontaneously. I also have noticed that the rear power door locks have been very "sluggish." Meaning they sound like they are just not powerful enough to unlock the door and often take about 5 or more cycles of lock/unlock to finally work.
I took it to the Acura dealer to take a look at the headlight, and they ran the diagnostic kit and said it looked like I had a faulty headlight electrical setup. They said the bulb, igniter, and ballast, and even the car battery were bad and needed to be replaced.
My question is did the faulty battery cause this? And could my USB cigarette lighter adapter for my phone charger cause a drain on my battery to wear it down? The charger doesn't seem to use any electricity unless the phone is plugged in and the car running (a light comes on). Or anything else you can think of?
The lesson I've learned for my next car is to get one with normal headlights and normal size rims. (the 17" tires are annoyingly expensive!)
A couple months ago my VW Passat started locking itself and sounding the horn spontaneously, and now it is rolling down the windows randomly as well. My key isn't in the ignition when this happens. I got locked out once which was annoying, but now the windows rolling down make it a security issue and I really don't want the windows down in a parking lot during the next snowstorm. The heater quit working last week, too.
The car is only 2 years old and the dealership said they can fix the heater but they aren't sure what would be wrong with the spontaneous horn/window/locking problems.
My NAV/Radio system won't function at all. When I turn on the car the first thing I get is the "splash screen" (and advertisement from Jim Falk Lexus), then the warning screen. Radio would come on for a few seconds then the screen will turn black and start all over again. It's in a continuous loop.
When I hold down the volume button for 4-5 seconds, it will re-boot but it will then continue to re-boot itself every few seconds. So is there any way to totally re-set the system? You know, like a "control-alt-delete" to start over from scratch?
I have an appointment on Friday and really don't want to be looking at the system go through this cycle every 5 seconds. It's very distracting. Plus I can't use my NAV, the radio, Bluetooth for my phone, etc...
It's a 2015 LS460 with the Mark Levinson system.
