Prius (2001-03) :: Brake Fluid Dripping Down On The Brake Lines

Jul 21, 2012

seem to be losing brake fluid from the area of the ABS system and it dripping down on the brake lines underneath. Noticed this when draining excess oil from the engine (dealers!!!!). I'm thinking this has been leaking a long time. I have the worst luck finding a reputable mechanic anymore and if I can't trust a dealer...

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Brake Fluid Dripping Onto Front Tire - Use Cruise Control?

OK, so a friend's F150 just went up in flames in his driveway and he told me that the problem was the hot link behind a plastic/ rubber barrier at the main brake cylinder. I had a recall notice on my old truck but since I left the US and took the truck I never paid much attention to it, thinking typical overkill. Now I already heard from another buddy who caught lit brake fluid dripping onto the front tire and got the fire out before it spread and looked up the info today. Looks like our trucks are affected. Best to unplug the harness that goes into the brake master cylinder will prevent this problem from occurring? I never use cruise where I am, the roads are too small and slow.

Prius (2001-03) :: How Is Brake Fluid Level Detected

I only get a brake warning light when it is below 40F and I take a turn. It then goes off by itself. I suspect the brake fluid level sensor may be going off. But when I looked, I didn't see a 'float' sensor.

So today the cold soaked car showed midway between Max-Min. Ok, top it off and drove to parts store only find it was just over Min. Lesson learned, check AFTER driving.

Prius (2001-03) :: Changing Brake Pads - Should Change Fluid As Well?

I am going to have to change my brake pads (I am probably going to do the rear shoes as well). I was wondering if I should get my Toyota dealer to change the fluid as well. I have 116,000 miles on her. Lots of highway driving, and this is only the first replacement set, these pads last forever. The fluid has never been changed before.

Golf VI R :: Clutch And Brake Pedal Pulsing After Swapping Of Full Brake Fluid To RBF660?

I swapped my fluid and ever since I did that my clutch and brake pedal are pulsing/vibrating only when I start the car. It almost feels like ABS pulsing but on both pedals and the car is obviously stationary.

I followed the procedure from the manual and did all 4 corners and slave.

Brakes work fine/clutch is fine...

I must have done something to upset the BRAKE system?

Grand Prix :: 2001 SE 3.1 - Brake Pedal Goes To Floor / Fluid Low

I have a 2001 Grand Prix SE 3.1 that the brake pedal goes to the floor. I did notice the fluid was low , filled it up. I do not think it sucked air, although I can not be sure of that. As you can imagine, it is a beater so don't want to stick a ton of money in it. I had someone look at it that said he thought it was a "sensor" that would cost over 500 bucks. I don't know of any brake sensors at all. If there is, do they cost that much? If not would this be a master cylinder.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Brake Fluid Leaking From Rear Tires

Topped off my brake fluid 6 months ago. Last week my brake light came on. I checked and I only had half the fluid left so I topped it off again. Today I went out and there was some kind of oil near my rear tires and my light came on again, needs more brake fluid.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2001 - Leak Around Low Brake Fluid Warning Switch?

2001 F-150. I've got a leak around the warning switch and can't seem to find info about replacement. Is the switch and switch retainer screwed into the reservoir or is the outer ring screwed into reservoir and more of a compression type fitting that holds switch in place? Also, after removing and repairing will bleeding be necessary? Looks like everything I'm taking apart is above fluid level after I siphon enough fluid from reservoir to replace fitting.

Prius (Gen 3) :: 2012 - Low Brake Fluid Level

What are the odds of the brake fluid being low, and not being indicative of a leak, in my new-to-me 2012 prius two? It's at the "low" line. The dealer said they put all new brakes on it before they sold it to me as pre-owned & certified, so the low fluid level shouldn't be low because of related brake component wear.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2003 - Brake Fluid Leak Coming From A Part Near Master Cylinder

I recently noticed that my brake fluid was leaking in my 2003 Hyundai Elantra and upon further inspection I found the leak was coming from a part near the master cylinder. I looked online and couldn't figure out if this part was part of the master cylinder or brake line or a part all on its own. I tried tightening it but It still leaks some. I read a similar post online and that it could just be that the washer needs replaced but I just wanted to check on here to see what the part is called and if I should just replace the whole thing. I included photos as well.

Prius (Gen 3) :: Brake Fluid Goes Down - Shows Half Way Full

This morning, when checking the oil in my car, I noticed the brake fluid was about half way full.

Before doing the 5k mile service, I had noticed it wasn't full. I told the dealer to make sure they top it off, and they did. Now at 12k the reservoir is half way again. Rarely brake fluid should go down.

Sierra :: Corroded Brake Lines Has Been Stricken

2005 Sierra 4WD 1500 Crew Cab.

My 2005 Sierra, with only 42,000 miles on the odometer, has been stricken by the corroded brake lines syndrome. So far, only one line has burst - a line to the left front brake - spraying brake fluid all over the exhaust manifold and leaving me with rear brakes only. I'd like to know, before borrowing a car and heading off to the parts store for a generic length of pre-flared tubing, what the tubing diameter is (i.e. 1/4" or 6mm) and what the thread gauge on the fittings is.

Prius (2010-12) :: Brake Fluid Flush / Replacement Interval?

On my 2011 Prius maintenance schedule, there is plenty of direction about inspecting brakes; however, there is no indication of when to flush and replace the brake fluid. My wife travels 60 miles/workday, but hits her brakes about 6 times/day. I would expect that normal braking would result in pad replacements more regularly than we are going to have. I did most of the 60K inspection, but took the car to a trusted, local mechanic for undercarriage inspection and a professional look-see. They indicated that the brake fluid should be replaced every 3 years, and I OK'd a flush and refill. Is there any professional guidance on the replacement interval? I know there are a lot of opinions, but I wonder if there is any published authority.

Prius (2004-09) :: 2008 - Coolant In Brake Fluid Reservoir

I purchased a 2008 Prius with 117,000 miles lat month. I took it to a friend's house recently. When he was looking at the car, he told me that my coolant level is low and put some coolant in the reservoir. The next day when I was driving the car I was hearing a rattling sound every time I pressed on brakes. I could not figure out what could be the reason. The sound went away after couple of days. Today I was going through the manual and noticed the place where my friend put coolant in is actually brake fluid reservoir. It looks a lot like coolant reservoir of my other car. So now I am wondering what could happen if coolant goes into brake fluid reservoir. Will it harm my brakes? It has been about 2 weeks since that incident happened.
