my wife has been driving the prius and has noticed that the dash and mfd lights will shut off for a split second sometimes. They always come back on rather quickly( about one second).

View 19 RepliesThe Problem : The short version of the problem is that, as the description says, the ABS and Brake dash lights will come on for awhile, but then shut off, either why driving or the next time I start my car. The brake fluid level and color seems fine, and I checked the hidden service menu from the control screen, and the computer is not reporting any error codes (though I have not hooked it up to any formal error code reading device).
Problem History : The first I saw this problem was about 4 weeks ago just after I got an oil change at a local Toyota Service Center. They warned me that the lights were on and I should get them looked at (though I had never had an issue with them before). when I started my car after, they were on, but then shut off after about 30 seconds. I did not see them again for a few days, so I assumed it was just something got bumped or whatnot, and was not worried. Later I randomly started my car one morning and they were back on, this time they stayed on for a few minutes before shutting off. It continued to do this randomly, but I never felt any issue with brakes, nor noticed any other problems with the operation.
The first time I saw it come on why driving, was when I was pulling over to the side of the road, and hit a puddle that was deeper than I thought and jerked the shocks a lot. After this the problem started to be more frequent, most noticeably if I park on a hill with the e-brake on.
My Thoughts : I called my Service center, and they wanted 100 bucks for the inspection, and then most likely another couple hundred for the repair. I am not inclined to just dump my money into this without looking it up first, and what I have seen online is that similar cases on other cars have been a faulty abs sensor or some kind of particle in the fluid line. Since I am not seeing any error messages from the computer, nor are the lights consistently on, I am thinking of getting my brakes flushed.
Is there anything I should know about flushing the brake fluid, or should I really take it to a service center. They are asking 130 (plus mostly likely an extra 20 bucks b/c this place always finds little things to tack on) to change the fluid.
My sister was driving her 01 Prius and the engine shut off and all the dash lights came on. I was worried it was the hybrid battery since it is still original. I started the car and it started fine, drove home without any issues. Went to the store, everything seems normal. Read the codes and found P0121 and P3190, I just have a basic reader so I don't have any sub-codes or anything like that.
View 8 RepliesGen II? My 2004 will occasionally beep from the dash after shut down (until I close the door). If I ignore the beep, close the door and walk away, the next morning it will need a jump start!
My dealer said it was because I was shutting down before putting it in Park. I always thought Park was unnecessary. Anyway, I got in to the habit of putting it in Park every time before shutdown, and still sometimes I get the dash beeping when I open the door.
My 2006 Prius wouldn't start yesterday. The dash lights blinked on & off and the fob was locked in the dash. About 5 mins. later it came out. I was able to jump start the car with no prob. I drove to the dlr. & they checked the bat. & charging system. They found no problems, but said I might want to R & R the bat. as it's 5 yrs. I want to stick with the stock bat. Aalso stated that the bat. was fully charged & when I went home I plugged in my battery tender. The car was wired for the tender already although I haven't had the need to use it until now.
View 6 RepliesI had just picked my kid up from school, as I turn out of the parking lot my A/C stops blowing cool air, I check the A/C screen and it still says it's set on High with temp at 68. However, it is blowing very low with warm air. Seconds later the dash lights up with numerous warning lights. I'm on the highway and I'm able to gather speed, but each time I do I hear the engine revving like crazy. We only live a few miles from the school so I am able to make it home. Once home, I turn off the car and turn it back on. The only warning lights displayed now are the red triangle and the yellow check engine light. I turn the car off, pop the hood, I check the belt and it was fine. I checked the oil and it seemed fine. I check the coolant overflow and it was empty.
View 15 RepliesTook my 2005 Prius for an oil change. Dealer called and recommended fuel injection service because of carbon buildup and mileage (50,000). On my way home on a mild day with heat and AC off it didn't shut off at stop lights all the way home. Battery was charged. Never had this happen before and it's demoralizing because I really love my car!

View 19 RepliesRecently Ive been having issues with my prius 2008 , it all started when I was driving back home and 3 lights came up randomly. They were the VSC, (!), ! With triangle. I parked the car and turned it off and turned it back on the engine would not start and the 3 lights from before came up in addition to the check engine light, the abs, the emergancy brake and anti skid, and then the red car with ! Came up on the navigation screen. I had to unplug the startup battery and pluged it back in. it started and was fine for about a day. Cant run any tests until it happens again. We had the 12V battery checked and it is just fine.
View 10 Replies2007 Prius with 105,000 miles, all was ok until after a few days when I went to the car, I unlocked with the remote key, put the key in, and nothing lights up or happens. The interior lights and headlights are fine, but nothing comes up on the dash, no amber/green start button, no radio etc.
I have attached a booster pack to the 12v battery but still nothing.
I just started getting 3 dash lights that come and go intermittently? ( I'm getting a (!), ABS and VSC lights in amber). I first had these three come on while I was traveling home one evening (traveling a little too fast /approx 84mph). This 2007 Prius has 276,000 miles on her. The lights will come on, them go out once I stop for a short period of time, or slow-down and travel at 40-50 mph.
I've checked the 12V battery and its seem to meet at the recommended voltages. I did have a recall on the inverter water pump around 150K. With that said, the pump does have circulation when I remove the cap? Over the 6+ years that I've owned this car, I've only changed the oil (synthetic), replaced tires, changed a water pump/alternator belt and a second set of replacement front brake pads. This has been the BEST car (maintenance and economy-wise) that I've ever owned! She's still consistently getting 48.2mpg. I've ordered the OBD pigtail and diagnostic software....
So my wife says she hit a curb last nite on her way to work, now this morning the car lost power several dash lights are on and the lcd display says problem on start up, and has a orange icon at the top left. It will only shift between park and neutral. The light on the power button wont turn green either. Currently I'm waiting on a tow truck.
View 6 Repliesthis is the second time this has happened to me: I stopped at a beach access to relax & look at the ocean, turned car off but left key in as was staying in car. When I decided to leave car would not start, dash lights would come on but that was all. Hit power button again lights went off but could not get key out of ignition. After several tries I call AAA, they charged something under the hood & said I needed a new battery. The first time this happened was several months ago & I never replaced the battery. When I got home I did the self check of the voltage & it was 12.8 & car is starting fine. Is this some kind of a computer glitch?
View 9 RepliesI bought a 2008 about 7 months ago and have had no trouble with it until yesterday.
The "maintenance required" light's been on for about a week as I haven't had a chance to change the oil yet. I swung by an auto parts place to pull the codes, just to make sure it wasn't indicating a real problem. I started the car and had it "ready" when they plugged it in and got no codes. I shut it off, went in, and got all the stuff I needed for the oil change. Then I drove off and the first time I tried to stop it seemed as if the re-gen brakes were not working, it was harder to stop and the pressure was not linear (even more than usual). I didn't notice till then that the E Brake light was on, the (!) light was on, the ABS light was on, and so was the VSC.
I drove it home. Pulled the positive terminal off the battery and let it sit for a while. Upon starting it again, all lights were still on. Brake res is full so I'm not too worried about the hydraulic brakes. After reading through as many threads on here as I could find, I jumped the 4 and 13 terminals in the OBD port and pulled these codes
(!) - 48 66 95
ABS - 42
VSC - 45
and even a 41 from the tire pressure warning.
Where can I look these up?
2007 Prius 215,000 miles. Car has been a champ for the almost 2 years I've owned it, buying it with 150K miles. No real troubles and I've been driving it constantly as you can tell. Had an extended warranty repair done back in the winter when dash lights went out completely yet car would still start & run. Replaced 12V battery back them trying to diagnose trouble and it was original battery anyway. Daughter was driving when almost all dash lights came on including the red triangle. She came back home, turned it off. Next start was just red triangle and check engine light with red car on center display. Now it's just the check engine light and red car after sitting for an hour. I plan to take it in to get check engine light checked out.
View 4 RepliesI messed up when jumping my car. Two fuses needed to be replaced, and also the fuseable link block. I've replaced those, but emergency informational lights are still on. I checked the areas: brakes worked, brake fluid okay, etc. So how do I turn off the lights? I know when I change oil, the maintenance light will stay on and has to be turned off ; so is there a way to turn off these lights/?
Also, do the diagnostic tools at Autozone work on hybrids? I've not tried it, but curious.
Car won't start and dash lights keep flashing, but I know it's not the battery!! I put a brand new one in and a battery charger!! And still the dash lights keep flashing and car won't start!! Is there something else besides the battery that might be causing this ??

View 19 RepliesWe have a 2004 Honda civic and we are having a bit of issue. I am not sure what is wrong but my dad thinks it may be the alternator. I would drive down the road and the dash lights and the gauges would shut off and five minutes later the car would act like its out of gas and sputtering down the road. took it to pepboys and they replaced the positive terminal and two belts. found out the wrong battery was installed at walmart long story short...we got a new battery and drove about 200 miles and it did the same thing....the hood prop was resting on the positive terminal and was arcing my hood. could it be the alternator or more of an electrical problem due to the arcing?
View 2 RepliesMy car was working fine except for occasional no dash lights. Unfortunately where my dash lights don't work sometimes I can't see my gas gauge and I ran out of gas today. I manage to make it to the gas station on battery power I presume. Filled the tank up with 11 gallons and the car seemed to work fine for the remainder of my trip(about 5 miles). So I parked at my destination and went inside for 30 minutes and then I went back out and started the car. I attempted to clear the out of gas error code and all of a sudden a whole Christmas trees of lights popped on my dash. I rescanned and these codes were read out

History : I had the coolant pump inverter changed 2-3 months ago by a mechanic and hybrid battery and battery ecu changed 2 years ago by myself.
